I sent in a request for a free trial and heard back from Jen the same day. I decided to have my son go for the Wednesday class which is located at John Muir Middle School. Field area is very nice, no potholes and parking is good. I was very impressed with this class from the moment he started. Jen gave him a warm welcome and explained to him what to do since all the other kids already knew. He jumped right in and started with drills. She taught foot work, how to control the ball, defender drills and a scrimmage at the end. Equipment was neat, didn't appear overly used and she had very good control of the class of about 10-11 kids. I would definitely recommend these classes to any parent looking to develop their children's knowledge of the sport and ball handling skills. I signed my son up for the remainder of the season and will sign him up for summer session as well.

I saw a sign for a children's art camp and took the opportunity to enrich my little peanut who goes through paper like a bag of Doritos with a little formal instruction. The camp lasted a week, three hours daily, and concluded with a celebratory art show and family friendly picnic. The instructor, Allison, is a talented life long artist from a family of artists, who currently runs the day to day functions of the park along with the school in the rear building. She is amazing with rowdy smocked children running amok flinging actual paint and canvases--not washable fingerpaint, but wear your play garb for a genuine, stain inducing introduction to techniques of fine art. My daughter came home with a bagful of illustrations of every animal known to man, a finished canvas, and a memory of an experience she wants to repeat again. Fortunately, the school offers both after school programs during the year and multiple sessions in the summer. Additionally, there are adult classes--one in the late afternoon and another on Wednesday evenings that I recently decided to dip my 'haven't painted in 20 years palette' into. It's been a fabulous three classes so far. A traditional art curriculum with warm ups, exercises in charcoal still life's, cross hatching, scratch etching, and sustained work on oil canvas. Allison knows when to give guidance and when to let you figure out brush strokes on your own. I'm learning to ride my "artist" bike all over again and enjoying every challenging, creative moment. I highly recommend this obscure little school in San Leandro. I hope it grows like the garden it's situated in.

My little full of energy girl loves going to her kungfu class. She looks forward and asked every morning if she has kungfu class or not. Within a month, I can see that she is able to follow along the other kids whom had been there longer than mine has. All staff are very friendly and I can see while waiting outside how the kids are enjoying their time learning from the Xifu and his assistants. I just wish they are located next to FoodNet or SanChong so I can do some grocery shopping while waiting for the kid to finish kungfu class.

The kids worked collaboratively to collect samples from the bay and even got to look at plankton under a microscope. Instead, the day typically didn't start until 9:30 AM and was essentially over by 3:30 PM, with kids sitting around waiting for pickup. On the first day, one coach kicked a ball into my son's head and then disappeared for the rest of the week. My son came home every day saying he learned no soccer skills because there was little to no coaching. They didn't even play soccer on the last day. Most activities were random games unrelated to soccer. Afternoons consisted mainly of crafts, Legos, and a bounce house--fun activities, but not what was advertised. The check-in process was also disorganized. The receptionist repeatedly struggled to find my son's registration because she was confused about first and last names, despite his information being clearly visible in the system. She claims everyone makes mistake and that's ok, please tell this to your boss, not me. This camp has potential, but it is poorly managed and does not deliver what it promises. Updated based on Russ's feedback - the name in the system was correct because when your receptionist can't find it and handed me the iPad, I was able to look it up and it looks right. However, looks like it was sorted by first name but she asked for last name. I understand it was supposed to be very structured, but during class, it was not the case. My son even asked the coach to teach him how to kick and shoot better but the coach ignored him.
