My son started Just Hoop with zero basketball knowledge and honestly not much natural interest in sports -- but the coaches here have been incredible with him. They're patient, skilled, and genuinely good at working with young kids (K-2nd grade range). He's made visible progress, and more importantly, he actually looks forward to going. We came from Folsom for my 5th grader's AAU boys tournament. The place is like the name suggests - just basketball courts. Specifically 2 full courts. The area is an industrial zone and seemed reasonably safe. We were able to find parking on site. The bathrooms were clean. There were no concession stands. As the day progressed it became warm and humid inside, so perhaps the management can improve the ventilation. read more

My 5 year old son joined the Future program about 2 months ago and it's been great so far. The coaches are really knowledgeable and hands on with the kids, and speaks to them in a way that helps them understand yet stay confident. The coaches are also really interactive, encouraging and friendly. The first practice we brought our own basketball but they provide plenty of balls for all the kids to use. My son still gets nervous learning new drills because he's brand new to the sport so it means a lot to me that they provide a positive learning environment for the kids. They're always on time-- if not early, practices are organized, structured and fun. I really like that the gym is spacious and the rim height is adjustable to 8 feet for the little kids in the future program. read more

I heard good things from friends about Just Hoop. I was skeptical at first because the Future practices seemed big, but the coaches were able to keep all the kids engaged the whole hour even while doing drills, and that is not easy with younger kids! The first practice my son was lost, but the coaches were great and helped him to catch up. There are enough balls for all the kids, so we didn't need to bring one. My 5 year old participates in the K-2nd grade afterschool program and loves it! The coaches mix the right amount of direction/encouragement and motivation to keep the players focused for the full hour. The hoops are lowered for the younger kids and there are enough basketballs for each player. The large group practices may be overwhelming for some kids (2-3 coaches for about 30+ kids, can get loud), but my kid loves the intensity and yelling "DEFENSE!" The smaller team practices focuses on team play and drills and are well run. You can see the progress of the players each month when they play games and it's motivating for all to see. The facility is easy to drive too (by Costco) and lots of parking. read more

So to end the season we go to a tournament in Las Vegas that my boys love. And they canceled it last minute. My guess is they didn't want to take a team that losses every game. We already had booked for the trip so we were going regardless and my wife tried to get our kids on another Just Hoops team that was going to be in Vegas because Will said that might be a option and instead of the owner Will trying to find a team you tells my wife he is confused because he seen my Yelp and my IG down talking the program. Just speaking facts and if I'm the owner and I'm dealing with a 3yr customer. Instead of being confused, you should do what you can to make it right. Not once did he say we canceled LV tournament here is some money back. Instead he got the kids a local tournament that probably cost a quarter of what Vegas would have cost. Really unfortunate that I have to leave a bad review for a program that is black owned. I signed my son up for training skills classes, unknowingly, once I signed up we were locked in for a 3 month commitment. I signed up for the program April 2, 2023. I was charged on April 2, 2023, May 2,2023 and June 2, 2023. Their website does not allow you to cancel your membership or remove your payment information. I sent an email to the establishment on May 30th informing I no longer wanted to renew my membership after my automatic payment on June 2. I received and email June 30th saying that even though I signed up April 2nd, my 3 month commitment would not be satisfied until a July 2nd payment and they charged my card for July 2, 2023. They refused to refund my money. They don't answer the phone. You can't leave a message because the voicemail box is full. I had to dispute the transaction with my bank. read more

This review if for the Training classes, as we have not tried the AAU team. The training classes here have really helped my son become a more confident player. There is a lot of basketball IQ in this facility and the trainer does a wonderful job. Practices at school and AAU can be full of pressure and judgment, but here, my son plays with joy and love for the game. While my son does travel and compete in multiple D1 AAU tournaments a year; it's nice to see him train here and play relaxed. He has fun while learning new skills, and making new friends. What a horrible experience. We enrolled our child for their fall program K-GRADE 2 team and while my child loved the experience and thought of playing basketball with others in the same age group they were unorganized, unprofessional and just neglected everything that went in protocol with building and establishing a team for our kids. The program was set for about $550+ for 3 months plus a fee for their uniforms on top of the $500+. They were never consistent with the same coach and had different coaches every practice + game days. There was never a time where staff had meeting with parents before or after games and practices to discuss anything of any sort, they asked parents to download an app where we can communicate for all basketball related things but never responded to any questions. Game days are as unorganized as their practices. We started back in October and while the season ends in January they just now got information that their jersey uniforms came in (December) honestly won't be back. read more

Just Hoop takes basketball training/fundamentals very seriously, while giving opportunities for fun. My young hooper joined this past summer for the first time and I saw vast improvement in his overall skills. The coaches encourage the kids to also take themselves seriously and I really appreciated that. A lot of other places just have the kids goofing around and not getting better. From Coach Will to Coach Kisha to Coach Marcus to name a few ..... you will truly enjoy how they come through as teachers to our kids on the court. Very disappointed in what the program delivered and the treatment of players. For starters, we paid for 2 training sessions daily but got mostly 1 training per week as the 2nd training session was scheduled on weekends thus rarely used as it conflicted with the weekend tournaments schedule. That aside, here comes my biggest concern. They try out kids and, based on displayed skills and potential, place them into different skill level teams to compete against similar teams in the Bay Area. Our son was placed on the "Black Team" - supposed to be one of their elite levels. The team had a lot of kids that were members from previous seasons and our son was one of the few new comers selected. He had played on teams before but never at the competitive level. The kid did all the work, was so proud to be a member of the team, and the team accepted him as peer (initially, at least). Then things changed as soon as we transitioned from practice to tournaments. The coach had her favorite go to lineup and soon we started to see the division of her "favorites" vs. bench kids. Our son was the worse case. On average through half of the season and 5 tournaments (3 games each), he got no more than 1.5 min. of play time per game (the worst being 45 sec in the game played just last Sunday). He was all pumped up on the way to each game hoping to get the opportunity to play and show skill, only to find himself warming the bench again and again. Same happened to other "least coach-favorite" kids but not to such a degree. Our son sunk deeper and deeper into doubting himself, his abilities in the sport and kept asking me on the way home after each game: "Why does the coach hate me?" and "What did I do wrong?". I had no answer as I couldn't not understand myself why, after making the cut, he is being treated this way. It is not like he missed a practice and not like he could not play in par with everyone else. It was just that the coach was interested in winning games and name for the club, not really in developing talent. And that is why she always went to her "favorite and well known kids" from prior season(s) and gave them outrageously disproportioned playtime while the others had to sit, cheer, and watch. The worst part is that she did not care what that did to the team. Soon after you can see the clear division between the "elite kids" and the "filler kids". Within game "the elite" will only play amongst themselves, almost through the entire game (unless they ask for a break), expecting the other team members "to feed them" the ball an finish the play. The same kids that accepted our son now started treating him "as invisible" on the court as kids at the age of 12 lookup to the coach and follow the examples they set. And, it was not only us who saw what is happening and what it did to our son's self esteem. Other parents saw it too and were not happy to see our son being treated this way and some felt for their own "bench kids". After all, we do pay coaches and teams to develop skills, confidence, and drive in our kids in a sport, not to put them down. How is a kid to become a better player if he/she never gets to play? Our son now truly believes that he played better basketball prior to joining Just Hoop than he does now. He used to practice in the backyard for hours and go to school an hour early just so he can play with friends before the 1st bell. Now, not anymore. Our backyard is quiet...I can't forgive what this coach did to my kid and that is why I am writing this review. People who do this to kids have no business being coaches. Not to mention her coaching style of screaming and waving hands in their faces. We quit the team after that last game. My son had it and so did I. I sent a respectful private TeamSnap message to the coach explaining to her our motivations to do so, and sent another (shorter version) to the team parents to let them know we are leaving the team mid-season. I was surprised to see some of the parents giving "thumbs-up" to our decision and one even put a message on his own of how sorry he is to see good players leave due to being treated unfairly. I also send an email to the Just Hoop and all the coaches explaining our decision. No-one responded. Not a call, not a sentence... Instead, they promptly removed us from the TeamSnap so we can't communicate with other parents without even sending a text as much as "We are sorry to see you go". Swept it under a rug and in hopes it passes. That is why I am here typing. If that is the kind of place you want your kid to go to, then you found it. We know that we will never signup there anymore. Perhaps we had a bad luck with the coach as I see others are praising the staff there. We did not and are not willing to find out. Our money and time will be better spent elsewhere where it might be a bit less competitive but with more attention placed on development and care for these young and fragile kids. The training seemed to be what we wanted for training and participating on a team. Unfortunately, the way to do business was unprofessional. Due to that, they forfeited our son's opportunity to actually participate in a team. They fail to disclose more than once the real schedule of the training sessions, they required 2 payments even before any training took place and then when they disclosed the real schedule it turned out to bet hat during school nights training would end at 10 pm. Totally disregarding that during week days ending practice at that time is inappropriate. Basketball is not more important than academics at young age. By then is was too late to try out for any other team, we have been patient but they keep not fully disclosing information and we have not yet gotten our money back despite that we already asked for it and should had already been returned. It is obvious that business and getting as much money as they can is more important than customer service. Make sure that you know what you are paying for before you give this company any money. read more

Just Hoop Inc is an amazing organization! I registered my son during the Fall of 2017. He is excited about learning not only how to play Basketball but how to use different techniques for the sport. The Coaches are extremely knowledgeable and patience with all the children, regardless of their skill level. I believe Just Hoop inc is a awesome avenue for children to understand their own strengths and weaknesses, while at the same time having fun with learning and playing. My son had been playing soccer for several years on a select team and was pretty good at it. Unfortunately, after a few negative experiences with coaching he was turned off to all sports and told me he didn't want to play anything anymore as he believed he wasn't any good anymore. I planned on letting him have a break and hoped he would forget eventually about the negative experiences he had and whisk get back into something later. A few months later at a new school here he heard about this group for basketball and to my surprise asked me to sign him up. So I did. He had never played basketball before. At the end of every session he asks me to sign him up again. We are now on our third session with this group and my son has had such a great time playing. These coaches are professional and do a great job making the training fun and motivational. This is just the type of coaching my son needed and I believe has given him the confidence to enjoy sports again. Just Hoops is a great program. My ten year old daughter joined for the first time this year. It is her first time playing basketball and she loves it. I was looking for a sport to keep her active and this was the perfect fit. The coaches do a great job with all the kids. They never leave anybody out and give extra help when needed.
