When it turned out that our team would not be able to do post-season due to other team members' unavailability for the summer the business would not refund what we paid. They offered a temporary position on another team which we didn't want. We just wanted a refund for the fees for something that we did not receive. Other families who hadn't paid yet weren't required to pay, but because we had already paid, they somehow thought we did not need to be treated equally. They continually denied a refund. Lesson learned, it will cost you a thousand dollars to be prompt, in the future don't pay until the very last minute.

I love playing soccer, but I was intimidated to play in other leagues because I don't have a lot of experience. The Albany league is casual, yet highly organized. Its fun for everyone from beginners to seasoned players. You can get a great workout, meet new friends and reduce stress at the same time! The refs are very fair and make sure that a clean game is played to minimize injuries. The other nice thing about soccer is that it's co-ed 5-on-5 with open subbing (teams are usually made up of 8-10 people). So there's not a lot of pressure to put a big team together and it's usually ok if you have to miss a week or two. The registration fees are very fair. If you've ever thought about playing a team sport, I'd definitely look into this. They will even help match you up with a team. It's a great opportunity for people who are new to the Bay Area. I wouldn't book for my kid who is more active and athletic than what was provided and felt a bit bored, but it could be more fun for those not as into sports but still wanting an active bday party venue indoors. It has tunnels (not cages) set up for ADVANCED hitting -- a super high tech pitching machine that can throw 40 - 90 mph softball or baseball pitches, curves, sliders, and fastballs. It has a remote, so if you are in there with your coach, you can stop the machine and work on your technique. And if hitting isn't all that you need to work on, there is a portable pitching mound to get you out of your slump. Ok...and now for those who are just starting their softball/baseball careers, there is an entire section for little sluggers. He mentioned my son isnt innocent he was pouring gatorade on the ground last game and playing with friends. How you can compare that to physical abuse? The board members, coaches and team mom. This group is too tight knit. The president had his mind made up before he even spoke to me it was clear. Very sad situation, very unfair. I feel I failed my son, I should of pulled him out sooner.

If you go to the Crunch Gym in Alameda and then the Bladium -- you'll have a new appreciation for space and room to breathe. The remodeled men's locker room is cool -- most importantly -- it is clean and does not stink. I only use the facility for cardio and free weights. The machines and free weights are probably 30+ years old (seriously), but they work and I like the old school steel plates. The entire facility has been under construction and it looks like they're going to make the facility like something on par with the NFL Combine's fitness facilities. I learned during the pandemic that new weights and weight machines cost a fortune, but I'm hopeful they will update the equipment. Most importantly, I hope they extend the hours of operation on the weekends. Indeed, their hours of operation should be 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. (minimum) every day. Oh, there is always free/available parking and the gym manager is extremely responsive/professional. Bottom line: this gym has the space and location to become the best fitness facility on the East Bay -- but they must extend their hours and spend a small fortune on new weights/weight machines. So many memories, like winning a state championship and rock climbing with my friends. The Bladium was an experience: to drink, to play sports, to work out, to have fun. I recently came back after finishing college, just to find the main football field and a majority of the weight room gone to pickleball. At first, I did not mind, however, it feels like the only people who come in are pickleball players. Its sad to see my friend's old family business being made into a pickleball center. Even the new company's logo shows where their priority is at. Heartbreaking to see. I will always remember the sounds the floorboards made.

My son had been begging to play baseball for as long as I can remember. On a chance, I saw an ad on the side of the road for OVS and emailed them. Coach Jen wrote back the same day and we were able to get him into a "bubble pod" with other 5 year olds. The group met one time a week for an hour over the course of one month. On the field, Jen was organized, COVID safe, and really engaging. She made every class fun and active. There was little idle time between activities and the kids also never seemed to realize when they were actually doing drills, both of which only skilled coaches can accomplish. She also seemed to have this magic touch for reigning the kids back in if they got off track or distracted, and made a point to connect with every kid throughout the session. Even when she gave feedback, she always found something positive to say. Coach Jen has definitely has a gift for working with kids. What I love most though is that my son had the best time, found a new sport that he's gaining confidence in, and we found a woman-owned small business to support. We'll definitely be signing up for one of Coach Jen's summer camps!
