I've been meaning to write this review for a long time but life has a way of getting away from you…read more I took two blocks of lessons with All Seasons Horse Riding and their team is phenomenal. I had and rode horses as a kid but it had been a good 20 years since my last ride and I'd lost all the skills and confidence I once had. All Seasons helped me build that confidence right back up. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable, patient and approachable. Every lesson there seriously felt like therapy. Just being around the horses, the kind folks and learning without a ton of pressure was always so nice. They make it a point to end each session on a high note - it's good for the horses and for you as a rider. During extra hot or rainy days, sometimes the riding lessons would be canceled but more often than not, the lesson would just be horsemanship and/or groundwork. I know some people only want the riding parts of the lessons but having instructors that can teach you the horsemanship and groundwork techniques is invaluable. You build so much more skill and appreciation for the horses that way. It allows you to actually foster relationships with the horses too. I enjoyed that aspect so much that sometimes I'd request those lessons even if the weather was good to ride. I had to take a break due to my own budget constraints but i will be back! The lessons are absolutely fairly priced and worth every dollar.

First, the coaches are skillful and caring. Not only their priority is always safety, but also encouraging riders to properly care for the horses. They pay attention to each individual rider's skill and help them progress. This sport is physically and mentally challenging. My girls have had their struggles, but the coaches have been patient, guiding them through, and gone above and beyond to help them succeed. My girls have grown their confidence and learned their ways to cope and push through their challenges. I truly appreciate and respect them. Thanks to Sam, Barbara, Dacota, Nikki, Shannon, Tiffany, Heather, Rena, and Terri! Second, HZE has different levels of horses that fit the riders' skill, from a beginner to advanced rider who want to lease or own a horse. The horses are in good care and Sam is very knowledgeable and attentive when it comes to horses' well being. They also have IEA team, and are very experience at horse shows. Last, but not least, HZE has a very friendly and relaxed environment. My girls enjoy spending time with their friends at the barn and help out with what they can. Advanced riders are always willing to help, so are their parents. They have flexible schedule, no weekly fixed schedule required, and very accommodating to reasonable changes.

I rode with Tajma, who was taller than my head when we stood next to each other. Coach Heather did an amazing job reassuring me when mounting and dismounting. The introductory lesson included turning, stopping, going, posturing, and various balancing exercises. By the end of the hour, I was already comfortable on horseback. It would be ideal to extend the actual horseback training to an hour, with prep and cleanup being additional time. However, I understand that this could be strenuous for the animals.

It was essential that I had someone who could work around my busy schedule. I could not be more grateful to Kelly (the owner) for helping me find the perfect partner to ride. From going on trails to hacking to full on training sessions. It is the one highlight of my week. As a new rider to this sport, I was apprehensive to ever compete in a show. She has taken me to the next level by training me to go to my very first horse show this year! Kelly, has the experience, expertise and excitement for all things equestrian. I look forward to continuing my journey here and jumping to the next level with KMT.

The training at KMT is structured and intentional. Flatwork matters. Exercises have purpose, and that purpose is clearly communicated to the riders. There is real progression and thoughtful goal setting -- not just riding courses week to week. You can tell the trainers care deeply about long-term development. We've especially appreciated the transparency around show costs and lease or purchase discussions. Expectations are clear, and riders are encouraged to grow in a way that reflects a serious, competitive program. The barn reflects real pride in Maddox Family Farm -- beautiful, but more importantly clean, organized, and exceptionally well cared for. The horses are thoughtfully managed, and there is stability in the staff, including experienced grooms. That consistency says a great deal about how the program is run. Most importantly, our daughter has grown in confidence, grit, and resilience. She's learned how to work through fear and handle both success and setbacks in a much healthier way. For families looking for structured, professional training in a supportive environment, KMT has been an exceptional fit for us.

Burgeon didn't just bring me back to riding. It brought me back to myself. When I first came to Burgeon, I had been out of the saddle for five years. I came in with no guarantees -- just a deep love for horses, a willingness to work hard, and a quiet hope that maybe I could rebuild something I thought I had lost. What I found here was so much more: a trainer who believes in her riders, a program rooted in integrity, and a place that truly changes people from the inside out. Lisa is more than just a talented trainer -- she's a mentor who meets each rider where they are and helps them rise. Whether you're a complete beginner just finding your seat, or an advanced rider refining your skills, she sees the potential in every student. She doesn't just teach lessons -- she teaches you how to think, how to listen, how to partner with your horse. She builds confidence with patience, celebrates every step forward, and always holds space for growth. The program at Burgeon is built with care, depth, and real horsemanship at its core. The horses are happy, well-conditioned, and respected. Lisa pours herself into every ride, every student, every decision -- and you feel it the second you step into the arena. It's about the work -- the quiet, powerful kind that builds a rider not just physically, but mentally and emotionally, too. For me, this journey has been transformational. I've gone from being unsure and full of self-doubt to finding a deep confidence that's changed my life far beyond the barn. I've grown stronger -- not just as a rider, but as a person. I've learned how to trust myself again. How to be patient with progress. How to take up space. I've found community, purpose, and a sense of belonging I didn't know I was missing. Every lesson, every ride, every hard day and breakthrough moment -- it's all shaped me. And I wouldn't trade it for anything. Burgeon Sport Horses is the kind of place that stays with you. It's for people who are ready to work hard, grow with intention, and build something real. I feel so incredibly lucky to be a part of it. I even now own a German Riding Pony that I've been training, and he has the best cute and quirky little personality. Highland has a great atmosphere and some of my closest friends have been made there. Everyone I've ever met at Highland has been kind and friendly, and (something very helpful when you first start out riding or at a new barn) always ready to help. There is always someone around, whether it be an instructor or another student, who is willing to help with whatever you need help with. The instructors also listen to your goals and try to put you on horses and doing exercises that will bring you closer to your goals. Highland's horses are also amazing, usually a little older but who have had competition experience in the past, so they know what they're doing. All of these horses have great, friendly personalities that make riding even more fun, anywhere from sweet and shy to funny and friendly. Dougherty Valley Speech and Debate Summer Camp

Dougherty Valley Speech and Debate Summer Camp

    (2 reviews)

The Dougherty Valley Speech and Debate program, while on face seemingly an educational and positive…read moreexperience, is not worth your money or time. This review will highlight why, from the perspective of someone who both was a part of and has worked for the program for 7 years. Problem #1: Aleisha Readye Anyone who's had to work with Readye knows that she is difficult to work with, and not considerate of her students or coworkers' time. More than that, she openly picks favorites among students and speech/debate events, sabotaging those who she does not like. She keeps all her students constantly in fear, fear that she won't let them go to the next tournament, fear she won't let them have the partner they want, etc. and she uses this fear to control the students, forcing them to come to mandatory "retreats", events, and meetings during time they need to be studying, increasing the stress and anxiety on on the minds of her students. She'll seem nice on face, but say totally inappropriate comments to students. Once she told a student "stop talking, the sound of your voice is annoying." Does that sound encouraging to someone who wants to learn Speech and Debate? Should a teacher and coach be saying that? Goes to show the extent of her character, if nothing else. Problem #2: It's not a club, it's her business Building off the above problem, DVHS speech and debate is a toxic environment in which power and politics reign supreme, rather than a child's drive, motivation, and passion for practicing and getting better. If you're a parent whose child wants to join the debate program, odds are you've heard Readye talk about the importance of the summer camp, and of the middle school bridge program. Let me be clear: these are constructed by her fully. Other schools do much much better in their debate programs without having camps and bridge programs - these are programs that fill the coffers of the debate program for Readye to dole out to her favorite students in the form of coaching time and practice, leaving the rest in the dust. Furthermore, putting your child in these programs doesn't guarantee that they will succeed in debate - they have to be in the program for as long as your wallets allow, and Readye has to pick them as a favorite. Not to mention, Readye notoriously lacks transparency regarding how money earned by the camp and bridge program is allocated, for all we know she could be keeping most of that for herself. In fact, this is likely, considering how unevenly coaching is distributed for events. Problem #3: It won't be fun for you as a parent either. Earlier, I mentioned how Readye uses fear to control her students. This is so prevalent, that she uses this fear to manipulate students into using their own parents' time. If you're a parent about to join the program, be careful not to give Readye too much of your time, because she will take that and abuse it, forcing you to drive every single weekend while other parents do nothing. She will do this by scaring your child at the thought of not ever being able to compete. The distribution of parent volunteering is incredibly uneven and Readye herself seems to not have an ounce of respect for the parents' time, though when she wants your money she will be polite on face. The mandatory events mentioned above, for example, take place on random schooldays, weekends, and workdays, and each of these time you will have to drive your child to the location, you will have to reschedule family events because Readye is not considerate or tolerant of your child not being able to come to a mandatory social event, you will have to reschedule doctors appointments because Readye takes no excuses for the mandatory debate meetings, in essence your and your child's life will be controlled through the fear and threats she makes. In my opinion, it is incredibly low of someone to take this thing that these kids are so so passionate about - speech and debate - and use the fact that she controls that which they love doing to manipulate them. If you'd like, take this review with a grain of salt. Maybe your child will be selected as a favorite, and have an astounding debate career. But if they aren't, you're throwing your money away, because Readye will never put the resources into them to actually make them succeed. I would suggest other programs, other clubs, or private debate leagues if you would like to pursue a passion for public speaking and debate.

Not only have I gained public speaking skills and knowledge about real world issues, but some of my closest friends have come from being a part of this program for the last 4 years. With over 500 competitors in the program, it takes someone really special to be able to run it. The amount of work the program director, Ms.Readye, has put into the program is incredible, but not noticed by several. People often critique her methods, but don't realize the efforts she goes to and sacrifices she makes to maximize opportunities for us and give us the best educational experience we can get. Your success doesn't matter as much as the amount of dedication you show. She is definitely a hard coach, but that is what has motivated me to keep working hard. It is quite absurd to say she has "favorites." Ms. Readye respects everyone who shows true commitment to the club and shows her they want to put the time and effort to succeed. Moreover, it is bizarre to say there is a "lack of financial transparency" or even make the assertion that she pockets the money. None of that is justified or correct- Ms. Readye is one of the most ethical people I know who holds both herself and others to the same high standards, and utilizes all of the money the club earns to give back to her students. I have never met someone so dedicated and so honest. But most of all, she is there when you need her. I still remember rounds where she has calmed me down, prepared me, and rooted for me. The program quite literally couldn't exist without her and she deserves much recognition for that!
