December 5th flooding was a disaster in many ways and, it, along with the subsequent flooding a few weeks later, created a problem for my car. My usual mechanic was "too busy" getting ready for the holidays etc. The Servco Lexus dealership treated me like a number and would not give me an appointment until well into January. (There are no rental cars available either) I tried desperately to get someone to look at my car. On Christmas eve I tried to get someone to look at the rear tire area as this is my only car. No one had the time nor seem at all interested in helping. Finally, I called a friendly mechanic who left Maui and asked who he recommended which led me to Ohana Vehicle Services! Wow! What a difference!!! They were friendly and understanding from my initial call, they were able to get the car in. I was treated as a human being, not a number like they did at the Lexus dealers and, most importantly, diagnosed and FIXed the problem in just a few hours too! Set an appointment to get my brake pads replaced. Showed up, was told they don't work on Volkswagen Jettas. Because it requires special tools that they don't have. Just got an oil change and they were very professional. I made an appointment and they were ready when I arrived and got the oil change done in an hour. Informed me of some other issues they came across but nothing urgent. There's another review here that says their prices are out of line but I didn't think so at all. I paid $110 for an oil change with a new air filter using synthetic oil. That's about the average cost on Maui for newer cars, and it was the kind of service that makes me want to come back. I've had a hard time finding a mechanic on Maui that I feel comfortable with. Figured it was good to test drive a place with a simple oil change. I'll definitely be trying these guys again. read more

The work is good, but a bit shady and very very expensive. I paid $300 for a new battery and cable??? ( I almost laughed out loud because I thought he was joking). It was no joke. I must be a sucker because I reluctantly went back for another repair. I paid $80 up front for the diagnostics, and then when the work was performed, I got charged another $80 for diagnostics. When I complained, I was told that he still needed to perform the diagnostics as part of the repair! I complained that he "sold" me the diagnostic "package", it was his recommendation. ... why pay for it separately if he was going to do the diagnostics and bill me for it as part of the service anyway? I don't usually take time to do reviews is typically I'm satisfied with no services this however was an exception to that rule. Took my car in for a normal oil change and filter and ask them to check the reservoir from my windshield wipers because I couldn't get anything to come out. It's a Mercedes has 57,000 miles on it. Never took it to anyone except Mercedes this was the first time that I tried an independent. Learn my lesson for sure had to take it back the next day because oil was leaking.they said that some gasket needed to be tightened. the windshield wipers also said Reservoir was cleaned and working. After a few days of driving I wanted to clean my windshield and I tried to get the Liquid to come out nothing... it's spit up about an inch or two on windshield OK. .. back in to have them see what the problem was they wanted another $65 to check it and I already paid that amount initially with the oil change it's at the car in the back and came out and said that it was the motor that was not working and then I had to get a new motor . my antenna went up and I asked will how come they didn't find that the first time he had no no answer it's just the way it was I said I'm not paying the $65 and she was immediately trying to find motors for me. I asked if it was a Mercedes item she said no it was a after Market . i said no I don't want tha...t anyway the bottom line was they didn't fix it . they wanted to charge me again. I told him I wasn't going to get the motor then I had to research this some. The bottom line is the windshield wipers resorviet wks fine now and so does the fluid so they were trying to score me buying a motor. just a horrible experience all the way around should have done the job correctly in the first place. He also erased my mileage from the time that I purchased the car trying to reset the oil change signal. erase three things that shouldn't have never been erased and I just now found this out which is why I'm writing this. I am completely unapologetically unhappy with their entire service technology. Proceed with caution read more

They do a good job and I trust them to tell me what's wrong with my car. But that comes at a premium. They are way overpriced and most times I cannot afford to go to them. What I've started doing is to take my car there and pay to get any problems diagnosed. Then once I know exactly what the problem is, I order the parts from Napa and then take it to a more reasonable place or call a mobile mechanic to have the actual work done. I understand the need to make a profit, but their prices are out of line--even for Maui. read more

This company charges top dollar and is not capable of accurately diagnosing problems. Charged me $440.00 for Power steering pump oil leak. Changed an o-ring. Leaked from two other spots. They have no Idea what's going on and will bill you for what they miss. Avoid Them!!! read more

We have had problems with getting our cars serviced here. All the big shops have tried to gouge us and sell us on major repairs when minor is all that is required. We had our car towed into TW in Kahului with a stuck brake rotor. They refused to unstick it unless we let them rebuild the whole front braking system. We had to have it towed out of there. That is how we found Sheri and the guys at Ohana. They fixed it same day for a fraction of what TW was trying to soak us for. They are by far the best in the area. I actually had service done November 2014 while living on Maui. I have since moved back to the mainland, however I was just going through my auto repair receipts and coming across my bill with Ohana Vehicle services prompted me to write this review... even at this late date! I'm not typically a review writer... as it takes time, and usually "out of sight, out of mind" however, this has stuck with me. I scheduled an appt for an oil change for 11:30 a.m. Upon arriving I discovered they were in the process of closing up shop. Had a not shown up a couple of minutes early, I would have been out of luck. They didn't have my number written down so couldn't call to let me know. It was a slow day... or "surfs up". At that time I told them that my car had an issue of intermittently not starting. They said they could not tell me what was wrong without performing a Charging/starting system check at the tune of $60. I agreed... needed it done. I was called and told I needed a new battery. I said go ahead without asking for an estimate on the battery (my mistake!) Upon picking it up (left out after hours) I discovered they put in one of the best batteries at $117. I called the next day to complain because I was actually thinking of selling my car (which I had mentioned) rather than shipping it to the mainland and didn't need the 75 Month Battery (geez my car is a 2003 anyway). She explained (owner) that they always want to do the best for customers and I debated with her that I should have been given my options and explain that I had told the manager that was preparing to possibly sell my car. I let it go, but was very annoyed. NEXT DAY, my car doesn't start AGAIN! This is after spending $200 (w/labor charges) for battery and starting system check. So I called back again to let them know, and said obviously the battery wasn't even needed because it didn't fix the problem. She said the only way to know if that was true was to see if parts store still had my old battery and retest it. WHAT? That was ONLY remedy she offered. So now I've spent money on the diagnostic that was done incorrectly and a pricey battery .... AND my car still only starts intermediately. I finally took it to another mechanic who said it was the starter (without charging a diagnostic fee) got it replaced and have had a happy car ever since. So wrong when a business won't even admit to an error on their part, let alone offer any type of reparation for their mistake. No way to run a business! read more

I am new to the island and in the process of buying used car. I brought the car into Ohana Vehicle Services to have it inspected for safety and hidden problems before I buy. They could not have been more helpful. The woman at the front desk (I will catch names next time) was very friendly, patiently listened while I explained the things I wanted them to look at, and didn't even make me feel rushed or stupid when I had to look through my phone to find the name of the belt I had read they should check. The mechanic took my car and spent an hour and a half on the inspection...truly used the time, not just parked it in the back and worked on other cars. When he came back, he had printed off the Kelly Blue Book info, driven it on the high way and made a list of all the things that would need my attention. The woman at the front desk then typed up a list of all of the issues the mechanic saw, along with price quotes and printed it out for me. They were both willing to explain the things I didn't understand and talk through if this was the right purchase for me. I really appreciated their aloha and will definitely become a customer of Ohana Vehicle Services. The inspection cost me $157, and while I'm not sure how much an inspection at another mechanic would have cost, I do feel like I got my monies worth here. read more

Recently I had a car emergency towards the end of the day. The check engine light was flashing and the car was shaking, and I didn't feel safe driving it back home up the mountain. Despite it being late afternoon, the staff at Ohana Vehicle Services diagnosed the problem and assigned a mechanic to work on it right away. What a lifesaver!
