Wow, another quick and easy safety inspection for my Maui Cruiser today. I like the friendly guy and gal working at All Star Garage now. Professional and thorough. They make sure the registration is valid (I've got a few days left) and insurance is up to date. Then, cash payment is made. It has gone up a buck since last year. It costs $27. Did I mention that they take cash? No Venmo. No Apple pay. No Zelle. Leave your checkbook at home. Don't pull out your plastic. No bitcoin. It won't work here. They made sure the horn honks, although you aren't supposed to use it unless it's an emergency. All lights, blinkers and otherwise, wipers, tire treads are checked. They peeked under the hood, and I'm sure they were impressed at the compact power plant. Then, the papers were returned to me and I was on my way. Same time, next year! read more

This is the place to go on Maui for required safety inspections for vehicles, golf carts, motorcycles, and more, before you can register your vehicle. They were friendly, knowledgeable, efficient--and genuinely fun to interact with, which makes a big difference when you're dealing with inspections. They clearly know their stuff and took the time to explain things without making it feel stressful. It's obvious they provide the service but don't make the rules, and I get the sense they often deal with frustrated customers who aren't prepared. Even so, they remained professional and upbeat. The Best! I had an expired registration and inspection and was helped by Jennifer, one of the 2 owners. She did a full and proper inspection. There were 3 customers in front of me when I arrived, a 4th in the bay, and she still had me out the door with a temp tag in 40 minutes. Jennifer is friendly, kind, and efficient. I called first, had my paperwork correct and went in for the first time. I used another garage in the prior 5 years that was closed, so went here instead. I really regret it. He was so rude and unprofessional. He looked at my car for 2s, then went off about a small thing about my car. Saying he saw me the last year and let it pass, and was a nice guy for letting it go, but couldn't this time. He was so loud and rude. All he has to say was kindly cite why he wasn't passing it. This shop was very efficient in providing me a safety check and my sticker for my 2012 Nissan Altima. It is $26 CASH only. Their voicemail service does not mention Saturday hours. When I called on Friday, the person who answered the phone said I could come in on Saturday. I called in the morning on a Saturday just to confirm that I could actually come in - with no appointment - the friendly voice told me I could drive in: first come, first served. They close at 11:00 am. Their front door sign says that Saturdays are available by appointment only. I arrived and I was the second car there and my car was given a review, a drive, and it passed, and I was out the door. I spent maybe 15 minutes total. Very convenient. I came in for a safety check. I walked in and the guy was sitting at the desk with his leg up on the seat eating a burger. I told him that I came in for a safety check and he says sure, but continues to eat. After about a minute of awkward silence he says, "let me finish this first then I'll help you." What?????!!!! It's not like he's eating in privacy or behind some closed door but he's literally sitting 5 feet across from me open table. There's no one in the place it's completely empty at noon. So I just sit there staring at the guy. He asks if I'm in a rush and I say, no in honesty and disbelief, and he continues eating. In about 5 minutes I ask how long it will take, and he says once he finishes his lunch about a minute, but he wants to finish his food first. Then I say, "you know most people would pause their lunch, and continue eating after assisting the client." The then responds "most people also get to sit down for lunch and clock out, I just sat down but you can come back later. But I'm almost done eating I have like a bite left." This was just absurd. It's not like it was a busy day it was deserted as it was raining that day. Overall he was friendly after his meal but that could have been handled more professionally. read more

I started coming to All Stars Garage back in 2015 when I moved from Lahaina to Kihei and the shop was fast and efficient. My last safety inspection with them was in late Jan 2018 and there was a new guy there that was ridiculously slow. but I waited my turn since I was there. I just went there today (July 5 2018) and seen a sign on the door for their hours that were from 4pm to 6pm.. Open For 2 Hours? REALLY!!! This used to be a great inspection station. Had to get the dopey car certificate so had to figure out where and then after reading Tim's review I recalled All-Star. His review was great and it was like that my first time there last year.....but this time it was different. Their hours were like 4-6PM so maybe best to call prior to going there. The owners were running it now and they are nice and organized. There were 2 in line a head of me and maybe it was 15 minutes wait? I've been meaning to write this for awhile. As others have mentioned, this isn't a place you go if you want to be catered to or treated as you would expect any business to treat the customer. I would give them 1 star for that part of the experience. Make sure you have everything you need as far as paperwork and a vehicle that doesn't have any issues and you will be in and out in record time, this is where they shine as a business. I witnessed another customer get berated once for having a new insurance card which had a valid date in the future. Rather than just ask if he had the current card, he went off on the poor guy and told him to come back when he had the proper paperwork. The guy ended up having the old card in the car. I've quit going there because I'd rather give my business to someone who treats people with some sense of decency. read more

Rude! Rude! Rude! I walk-in with my registration and insurance card emailed to me by Geico. After checking my car for the Safety, he scolded me for giving him a copy of my insurance card and pointed to his sign that says, watermark required. I told him "I have the insurance app on phone if you want to verify" but he says he already uploaded the paper copy (why didn't he just ask me for the app in the first place.) Then he kept complaining to me about he keeps telling us, and telling us. Who's us? I only go in once a year for the safety, and he's always been on the rude side. But today was it.
