I used this business for a pre purchase inspection and was so impressed with them I decided to use them for some repairs to my Ford Raptor (new rotor install and removing a broken air horn). They were very helpful, honest, and friendly, and returned calls quickly when needed. Competitive pricing and professionalism wins through every time, hence their 5* review from me and the great reviews below on Yelp. I called them and got an answering machine. I left a message, saying that I wanted to replace the front brake pads ONLY on my Nissan van, explaining that the rotors are in perfect condition (the van has only 48,000 miles, and never carried more than 700 pounds, way below the normal payload on those heavy-duty vans). They called back and quoted $1,040 for the front brake pads + rotors. Again, I explained that the rotors are in perfect condition and do not need replacement. They replied that if I refuse to do the rotors, they won't replace just the brake pads. The surface of the rotors has no grooves, no scratches, they are not warped, and the pads have still 2-3 mm thickness; the brakes do not squeal. This is bargain-basement sales tactics, trying to push for the purchase of parts that do not need replacement. Shameful! Incidentally, their quote for pads + rotors was 50% higher than that of another shop that I have been using for years. I am taking my business elsewhere, and will not give them another call in future, as they are out to rip people off. read more

John's great , gets the vehicles back to you repaired. Honor his estimates on repai and trustworthy

I ONLY go here to get my car looked at. As a female who doesn't know much about cars whatsoever, I never feel taken advantage of. The guy who greets you is always so friendly. He once slowly walked me through steps to fix my car over the phone. I usually come here for oil changes but would go for bigger issues too. I think it is a fair price. read more

Wow this place was great and true to the other Yelp reviews. Quick easy oil change with good advice and things to look out for on my car. Would recommend and return for sure. read more

He was efficient and quick. I recommend to others. Nice guy just looks rough. Support local.

We are blessed to have this ethical, honest mechanic on island. We know that our car will not last forever, but its life has sure been extended, by Kihei Automotive. Our 15 plus year Highlander has been serviced and fixed by John, Jake or co-workers there a few times over the years. We have had only good experiences. I've been nervous about talking to mechanics because of past experiences, but these guys have a well earned reputation of being honest. Today they fixed our car's AC, even. They did the usual excellent job. We are grateful. read more

Fast and affordable service. I prefer going here over any of the dealerships in town!

Called about an oil change and they were ready for me by the time I got there so A++ for that. They were great people and the cost was very reasonable as well. I'll definitely go back for my next oil change and I highly recommend them. read more

If I could give Kihei Automotive and the owner, John, 1 million stars, I would! He saved me from a thieving dealership who wanted to charge me $400 to remove tires because of a missing tire key that the thieving dealership lost when they worked on my car !!! To top it off the thieving dealership wanted to charge me an additional $150 to "diagnose" why my tires were shaking when all it required was a tire balance which Costco does for free!!! Kihei Automotive will be my choice for all my cars from now on!!! Thieving dealerships suck! read more

Called to schedule an oil change appointment and was told "I don't work on Toyota Prius." Incompetent.

Just brought a car to the island about a month ago from the mainland. It's had the service check light for awhile now and a weird sound coming from what it seemed like the dashboard. Got an appointment 2 weeks in advance and John helped me out. They're one of the best mechanics I've been to so far. It was very affordable and it got all fixed up in a day! I'll be coming here from now on. They get booked up really fast so make sure to make an appointment way ahead of time. read more

They do great work at a fair price and top notch customer service. So glad to have found these guys!

My car had a "stroke" on a Tuesday afternoon. After trying to find someone who could and would work on my car we found John. I have AAA and that saved me but finding a place who had the time to work on it was a problem. John never hesitated. Even though he was swamped and truly did not have a lot of space to store my car... he took in Da Princess and on Thursday afternoon called me to say "come and get her". Ever since the 76 station shut down I have been looking for a repair shop and I FOUND it! John and his troupes are fantastic and he saved ME from having a stoke! p.s. As an added bonus... my A/C comes out like Artic air now! read more

We bring both our cars here after reading reviews of Kihei Automotive and John's customer service. An honest mechanic or a used car company are almost like unicorns. Lucky us. So far we have found two unicorns. One of them is John on the mechanic side of businesses. He's honest, communicates really well both in person and on the phone and manages your expectation so you're not shocked by your repair bill. He can fix a cars AND communicate -- See what I mean by a unicorn mechanic? :) It's always a pleasant experience bringing the cars here and I highly recommend this place. read more

I needed an oil change. I wanted to find someone in Kihei, versus going to Kahului all the time. Thanks to Yelp! I was able to find a great place --- right down the street from my house! So grateful to find a local automotive shop that is friendly, professional and upfront about costs. John advised me against certain services (where he could have upsold me but didn't) because I didn't need them. He greeted me with a smile, chatted nicely as he presented the bill, explained it to me, and added he didn't notice anything that needed attention at the moment, and he would see me again soon. Simple, courteous, fast, reasonably priced. My only gripe is that they are a bit hard to find - the first time. They are the LAST building, waaaayyy off Ohukai. If you know where Maui The Gym is or Kihei Charter School, they are BEHIND that building. Other than that, I know where they are now. :) read more

Looking for an honest mechanic? Look no further, John and his team at Kihei Automotive are the best. Another shop told me that I needed a wheel bearing, and that my belts where fine. I looked at the belts and they where not ok, and John and his team thought the same. I scheduled an appointment to perform both repairs and got a call shortly after dropping my vehicle off that the wheel bearing was not needing to be replaced. This was shocking to me that a shop would call me and opt. out of a $500 job. But you know what it did? Made me a customer for life. John and his team are amazing and if you look around they have the best reviews because they are good, honest guys that you shouldnt hesitate to go visit if your car needs some tlc. read more

John is awesome. Very knowledgeable and friendly. I've always had just minor services done there but would not hesitate for anything beyond. John is AWESOME! Such professional service and efficient work! My car was in dire need of care and John saved the day! My car drives as good as it did 10 years ago! Highly recommend going to Kihei Automotive! read more

Friends, this is the spot for car maintenance in Kihei. We had actually called these guys twice before, once when trying to have our safety inspection done and once when the battery in our car died. They no longer do safety inspections, but were able to refer us to someone right around the corner who took care of that for us. When it came to the dead battery, they took the time to help us troubleshoot the issue over the phone before referring us to a roadside repair guy who ended up helping us out. Since they were so helpful when we had called them (despite us paying $0 for their help), we felt Kihei Automotive definitely deserved a try for our next oil change. The folks here are just as nice in person as they are over the phone. John at the desk was super friendly. He's laid back and fun to chat with, but also keeps his mind on the work that they're doing for you and keeps you informed. They even got my car done a little early and at a price I will have no problem paying again. Now Kihei Automotive is simply my go-to for everything related to my car. If they can do the work, I feel confident they'll take care of everything. If it's work they don't do, I know I'll at least get any help they can provide over the phone and some good recommendations. (And they're easier to find than Google Maps led me to believe. If you turn on to Ohukai from the highway, Kahakulani Place is your second right. Kahakulani is a dead end road that basically ends at Kihei Automotive. It can be tough finding businesses in this area since they're so densely packed and the signage is awful. Instead of hunting for signage, just turn on to Kahakulani off of Ohukai and drive to the end of Kahakulani.) read more

I don't trust anyone more to work on my vehicles than John and his team. Most recently I brought in my wife's Subaru Crosstrek in because it was having AC problems and the check engine light was on. As always John was upfront about the initial costs as well as potential expenses so I knew what to expect. All the issues were resolved quickly and professionally. I recommend Kihei automotive to all my friends because I know they will provide quality service at a fair price. read more

They found the issue while I had coffee. They were very friendly and found the issue quickly. I dont have enough good things to say about the team at Kihei Automotive. I was able to bring my vehicle in the same day when I was having issues.
