Owner Rocky came over the same day I requested for an estimate to trim our 8 huge triangle palm trees. We're new owners of this house. Rocky suggested removal even though it would cost him money because these trees need trimming every 5-6 months and they were hanging over my neighbors roof. We had a huge rubber/octopus tree growing in front of our house. Right next to a sewer drain, I had hoped that the City and County would remove it. Unfortunately, it wasn't one of their trees...planted by a previous owner, I suppose. Rocky came out to provide an estimate, shared what he could do so as not to disturb or risk damage to the utilities, and was able to start the next morning. His crew was prompt, professional and very neat. They trimmed several large trees and removed several. They had a mulcher which made it fast and easy for them to shred the branches and leaves. Instead of dragging the heavy cut branches on the ground (which wrecked my grass and damaged my yard gate) like the other company, these guys carried them out of my yard on their shoulders! We called 3 tree trimming companies to remove 5 of our 6 forty foot trees. Although his price for trimming the trees was in the middle, when adding the cost to grind down the stumps he was the least expensive. He was also willing to go deeper and included roots that were above surface. His knowledge of trees was beyond the others and he was very thorough explaining what the price included. I felt he did not want any misunderstanding of what we were paying for. The day of the job he called early to say he was running late and said he would be here at 10. And at 10 he arrived. Very punctual. We watched his crew analyzed how they would proceed as the trees were very close to our rock walls. He came to reassure me they will be careful. To keep this short, both my wife and I were amazed as they constructed barriers to safeguard the walls and like an expert fish cutter, dissect branches and trunks one by one. There were a total of 8 workers that without much supervision worked tirelessly until the job was not only complete, but free of all rubbish. We asked for a few stomps for friends and some of the shavings from their chipper and all they said was where would you like them. I was so impressed. Throughout my many years relying on Yelp for reviews I have never felt the urge to write one. I work for a contractor and know a great team when I see one. I needed to express my sincere gratitude to Rocky and his top notch crew for giving me a hell of a deal as I got so much more than I could have imagined. I had to write this review because I have never been this impressed with a contractor ever. I needed to get rid of and kill an Umbrella tree growing right next to my house. I called a few other tree services who told me they couldn't grind my stump because of the location of the tree on the retaining wall I have and that they would only be able to cut it down and then I would have to put my own poison which I didn't want to do. But Rocky persisted and said he could use the grinder and remove the tree and stump! I knew instantly I wanted him for the job. Not only did he come the same day I initially called for a free estimate but he arranged the removal of the tree for the next day!!! Talk about awesome service! The beginning: My partner and I had called 3 different tree removal/yard work ads we'd seen on craigslist to get free estimates. We wanted them to work on trimming palm trees, removing a bunch of crazy vines and weeds that had taken over our front and back yard, as well as haul away all the branches. Two of them said $600 after being shown the front and back yard that needed work. One said $800, but called back later to say $600. The reason we went with Ohana Tree Services is because the person who runs the service, named Rocky, really impressed my partner during the free estimation process by knowing a bunch of the species of plants by name that we wanted eliminated. Setting the date: Rocky called and checked up on my partner several times, at one point telling him that Rocky was worried he was charging us too low of a fee for the work we'd asked for. That was weird, but whatever. We set the date. Appointment day: Rocky and his crew showed up half an hour late. This didn't bother us since we had the whole morning free. We mostly hung out in the house while the Ohana Tree Services did their thing. With typical yard work noises, they were done within 3 hours of starting after we signed the contract for their services. At the end of their job, they toured us around to show us the service they completed, asking us if we were happy or wanted any additional services for an added on fee (amount depending on service), be we were satisfied. End result: $600 in cash is how we paid them. They did exactly what we asked for! They were clean, professional, safe, affordable, and did a great job! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! The day of estimate, he came on time, wrote all the estimate down on a estimate sheet, bottom line price w/ no additional hidden costs. I used OTS twice, and both times, they did great work. First was at my house. The previous owner had planted a small jungle just outside the dining room. Nothing too difficult to maintain, except for a grove of giant birds of paradise, which grows in clusters, over 20 feet high. We called around to find someone to thin out the cluster of trees, and chose OTS because they were the most responsive. Rocky and his guys showed up on time, and did a great job removing the trees we had asked him to. They also cleaned the area to look even better than when they showed up! The second time I called OTS was for a major cleanup of my mom's house. She had passed away, and the entire property had been overrun with bushes, renegade guava trees, haole koa trees, and weed grass as tall as sugar cane. There were also many fruit trees in the back that had grown out of control. The ground was completely obscured with thick, dead leaf cover. I knew exactly who to call. I met Rocky at my mom's house for a walk-around of the property and an estimate. I didn't know if it would be possible, but ultimately I wanted the place leveled to bare soil, and just trim the trees in the back. It was a HUGE job. It was literally a jungle that you bushwhack to get through. Rocky said they could do it, and went over line by line with me on the estimate, describing what they would do. We set a date. He said it would take two full days. Rocky called at about the middle of the second day to say they were about done. Ahead of schedule! So I went there for the final walk-through. He had a big crew this time, about 5 or 6 guys, plus a big wood chipper machine and truck. I couldn't believe my eyes. The property had been transformed. And, they literally took it down to bare soil. It was absolutely amazing. No haole koa jungle, no dead leaves or debris, no sugar cane grass, just clear soil! The giant trees in the back had also been well trimmed back as requested. Rocky also educated me a bit on how the haole koa would be a constant problem in the future if I don't keep an eye on it. I appreciated the advice, and have been maintaining the grounds ever since. I would gladly recommend Oahu Tree Service to anyone who needs serious work done to their yard. I had a large, overgrown lychee that was overhanging both our neighbor's and my house, and a large avocado tree with large branches overhanging mine. Rocky and his team are safe, hardworking and experienced. We had 11 Norfolk Pine (Hawaiian Christmas trees) in our back yard/gulch, some of which had grown to almost 70ft and needed to be shortened to less than 20ft due to safety concerns about the proximity to ours and our neighbor's homes. Their team of 6 worked extremely well together to get the job done efficiently with the least amount of noise disturbance. Each tree's cuts were meticulously planned and executed with the use of commands, signals and cues to ensure everyone was on the same page, aware and safe (very impressive to watch). All the wood and branches were chipped and hauled away and our property was immaculate upon their departure.
