I needed a hedge removed, and although price was very high I said okay because he'd do it next day. He also said he'd return if hedge started to grow back- which it did. I called for followup, he said he'd be there next morning; I waited, called back, he never came back. I feel that the stump should have been treated as soon as hedge was cut down, and it obviously was not. Wish I'd gotten other estimates before going ahead, my mistake. read more

My husband and I were looking to have our large mango tree trimmed and 2 smaller (ficus & avocado) trees removed. We read the few reviews of this venue and decided to call and schedule a date / time to meet, assess our needs/requests and obtain an estimate. We were impressed that Orrin (owner) contacted us almost immediately and scheduled to come to our house in 2 days! Unfortunately, if you are seriously looking to have tree trimming or any related services done, contacting Malama Tree Care may be a waste of your time! During his visit Orrin exhibited a very friendly, enthusiastic, tree-caring / knowledge personality. We were sold on his knowledge of tree care and told him we wanted to hire him! Sadly, this is where everything went downhill. We provided dates over a 3 week period that fit our schedule and asked if he could select one that would be mutually convenient. We NEVER received any proposed date despite multiple one-sided texts asking if he was still interested... finally received a response from Orrin saying "yes" he WAS STILL interested and would start the "wheels-in-motion"... getting the permit on Wednesday, then he'd call us after obtaining it on Wednesday. We NEVER received any further communications from Orrin. The time span from our first meeting to "no response/communication" ... was more than 4 weeks. The lack of professionalism, commitment, responsibility and basic consideration was very disappointing! If there was a change in his decision to accept our job due to, 1) our job being too big for his company to handle, 2) his schedule being too busy and 3) lack of organizational skills or 4) inability to obtain the permit... professional courtesy should have been shown by informing us. A lot of wasted time and frustration could have been prevented with a more mature, professional attitude & follow up. read more

Came out to give me a quote on a tree removal on a tree I believed needed to be removed immediately. I was informed that the tree did not require immediate removal but was given a quote I believed to be fair. He also provided some other recommendations. Orrin and company were very responsive in coming out to give us an estimate for removing five trees from our backyard. He seem knowledgeable, competent and easy to work with. He gave us a competitive bid and promptly scheduled the work for just a few days later. His crew was polite, professional and friendly. They did a great job, including being very thorough in removing the root systems in addition to the trees. Many large rocks were embedded in the base and roots of the trees. In order to grind the tree stumps, Orrin's team broke down the rocks and removed them at no additional cost. When everything was done, they cleaned up and left our yard looking better than when they arrived. We were looking at pruning our mango and jabong trees. Excellent service and work. Orrin is wonderful and gave us a ton of advice on care for the trees too. He is also certified. No pressure sales. Pruning to create a lower canopy so it will be easier to pick mangos in the future. They did not trim it to the point of being barren too. He really showed his knowledge and concern for the trees. A couple of years ago before the pandemic, Orrin gave us solid advice on what to do with our old mango tree that needed trimming and reviving. We did not want it hacked like we see other mango trees get cut. Orrin recommended trimming in a thoughtful way and to bring in high grade compost soil. We followed his advice and his crew did a great trim job and brought in the compost. Our tree and the grass around it have been revived and since last year started to produce more fruit than the couple years before the trim, when we thought it was on its way out. Malama Tree Care is efficient, friendly, affordable, and capable, and Orrin is a total pro. He answered our call and scheduled to come assess our property and needs in the same day. He noticed things that have been nagging us about our citrus trees - why are they yellowing? (Chlorosis, that's why.) Orin is great! The leaves on our 50-year old lychee tree were covered in black spots and turning yellow. We thought the tree needed pruning. He said that the tree didn't need pruning (turned down $!) and explained that it was caused by insects and could be cured with a special fertilizer that any hardware store would have. read more
