Oh Mama Kitchen is incredible! I've tried almost everything on their menu at this point, and everything is fantastic. Their food is always fresh, perfectly seasoned, and obviously made with love. This place is the gold standard of homemade Korean food (but better than any homemade food you'll ever have). You really can't go wrong here, but I highly recommend you try their soy garlic fried chicken. It's super crispy and moist, and the sauce is the perfect balance of sweet and salty. They also have a huge selection of banchans (Korean side dishes) that you'll rarely see at typical Korean restaurants. Righteous fried chicken. The chicken wings (garlic soy brushed on, or no sauce per preference, half half in my case) on their own may be some of the best fried bird I've had anywhere. They even prepped the togo order with the box and bag open so as to not soggyfy the product, a very nice touch that I really appreciated. The ddukboki (sticky rice cakes, fish cake, and boiled egg drowned in gochujang lava sauce) is spicy excellence. Those two are the products I'd stick to - I peeked around and found the rest of the line up to be priced slightly higher than your typical Korean market deli, hence the missing star. Although this place may be marketed as a banchanria (I just made this 'word' up) what I find as being the core strength of this place is the execution of classic, Korean street foods, vis a vis the aforementioned goodies. For banchan ( the little, pickled tapas looking things you get at K bbq) your best bet is Hanam one market located about a mile south of this excellent fried chicken joint. Stopped by here and picked up some premade kimbap for dinner! Its a cute little Korean owned mom and pop shop with a bunch of premade side dishes and kimchi's in the fridge. They also have prepacked drinks as well as uncooked frozen dumplings. I only picked up the kimbap and personally I wasn't a huge fan of it because I don't like shiso leaf in my kimbap. They were soft spoken, polite, and attentive to our needs. Top marks for customer service! (+2) Food: I ordered Spicy rice cake, fish cake soup and fried chicken. Their menu is limited with fried chicken being their main item. Their wings were lightly breaded, crispy outside and moist inside. They were perfect the way they were for Korean Fried Chicken (The other KFC according Buena Park's own Richard L.). Spicy rice cake had a nice kick to it. We came 30 mins prior to closing so the picking were a little slim but we ended up with 2 k-rolls and the fried soy garlic wings. The. Soy. Garlic. Wings. Amazing. Just amazing. The wings are lightly battered and it's soooo crispy and the sauce. There are no words to describe how good the sauce is. I think I found my new favorite Korean Fried Chicken place. We came here because my fiancé wanted their crab cakes, and luckily for me, everything they have including the side dishes are Korean dishes that I love. We got the crab cakes, half and half 12 piece fried chicken, and mung bean pancakes (). All were so delicious! Crab Cakes: they're made with the imitation crab meat that you get in kimbap and such. The crab cakes were packed full of the meat, just the right texture and the perfect amount of saltiness. There were 5 pieces in the package, so they're perfect as an appetizer, side dish with rice, or a snack to share (or not if that's how you roll). Half & Half Korean Fried Chicken: Half are garlic soy sauce and half are original. The chicken is so good because it's so crispy and crunchy, but the meat is so tender and juicy. (I could legit lick the bones super clean) Also, they don't do the move where a few of the pieces are randomly tiny. They're all a good size that come with great taste and texture. They don't drench the chicken in the sauce like other places, and it works because it keeps the chicken outside layer crunchy and crispy. You don't miss out in the garlic soy taste either. The original is so good too because the frying batter itself is salted. Mung Bean Pancakes: Bought these to take home to my mama, since she loves mung bean pancakes and she gobbled them all up. All four of them 0.0 to be fair, I did have half of one to taste it. Usually, I'm not a fan of mung bean pancakes because some places don't grind the mung bean enough and it tastes gritty (probably healthier), but this place was delicious. Packed with flavor, great texture, and a generous size. They sell a bunch of side dishes, so if I lived closer, I would probably become a regular. Parking is simple. Just had my second visit to this place and I know it won't be my last. My friend and I found out about this place through tiktok, and we went to try it out ASAP. If you are a fan of Korean food and would like to explore your palette on other flavors of the cuisine, you're gonna love this place. There are TONS of Korean-side dishes to chose from! And they have a wonderful selection of ready-to-eat stews and kimbap. The first time I went I got the seasoned octopus (one of my favorite banchans) and the cucumber kimchi that I wanted to try out of curiosity. And because I couldn't resist, I also got their tteokbbokki. The octopus was super yummy, not over-powering on the saltiness and it tasted fresh! The cucumber kimchi was so delicious and refreshing, and now it's one of my favorite dishes to grab from there. The tteokbbokki was super flavorful! The rice cakes weren't overcooked or undercooked, having the perfect amount of chewiness. When I came a second time (which was this week) I got the cucumber kimchi again (I was craving it soooo bad), and the tteokbbokki (which I re-heated up back home and put mozzarella cheese on because I'm a weeny with spice and also i love cheese tteokbbokki). However I also got their kimchi, their seasoned dried squid, the purple cabbage and seaweed. The seasoned dried squid is really good, sweet and spicy and flavorful. The kimchi is awesome; not overly vinegary or having that odd chemical taste some of the store-brand kimchis have. It is GOOD. I have yet to try the purple cabbage and the seaweed, but I have no doubt i'll be disappointed in them. You can tell the food here is made with love. Time and care can be tasted in these dishes. A near 5-star experience. Tucked in a non descript office/strip mall, off Beach Blvd and Rosecrans, behind Polly's Pie is this tiny Korean restaurant. It's better to call ahead and take the food to go, as there's only 4 tables to accommodate customers. I'm on a quest to compare various KFC's (Korean Fried Chicken) places in the area. I had Chicken University, and loved it, but wished the chicken wings were a tad larger. No worries here!! The chicken wings were meaty and big. CU charged $10.99 for 8 pieces (wing parts, not the whole wing) with daikon and cabbage salad, while Oh Mama charges $12.99 for 12 pieces but only daikon radish. In the whole picture, Oh Mama was worth not having cole slaw. So why a near 5 star?? The menu. While waiting for my food, the cashier was bringing out a krab omlette patty, and I pointed to it asking what it was. She told me, and when I looked on the menu, she replied it wasn't on it. Sooooo I guess unless you know they can make it, the menu is not complete. It's truly a "secret menu" item. The kitchen is tiny, so I would call it in or go online. Oh Mama Kitchen serves probably the best wings my partner and I have ever had. The wings themselves looked tiny but packed SO much meat and flavor and the breading in the wings was crisp and so delicious. Basically the perfect chicken wing. The rice cakes were so close to being perfect but it was just lacking the variety of flavors, and it's as easy as adding a couple of hard boiled eggs and some cheese!
