4/5 stars, vegan & vegetarian options available: Oh Mama Kitchen is mainly a to-go restaurant that sells ready to eat Korean side dishes, or banchan, alongside different cooked rolls, kimbap, and savory pancakes. They have no sit down areas, aside from a bench by the entrance, which is likely for the scenario if they happen to run out of the item you'd like to order and you have to wait for it to be made on the spot. The food: I felt really comfortable ordering here, since all the items are adequately labeled, so I was able to tell which items are vegan and which contained fish sauce or other seafood items and I was unable to have them. This was also super helpful for my friend who had a gluten intolerance, among other dietary restrictions that usually make it difficult for us to dine out together, since the two of us combined cannot eat many things on a typical menu. The floor to ceiling fridges were well stocked with many different types of kimchi, various types of proteins, and other typical banchans you'll see at the local Korean supermarket, but I do think there was a lot more diverse items than the norm. It's not easy finding vegetarian options at Korean spots, so I was happy to see a protein option (tofu) was at least fully vegan. I opted for two vegan kimbaps and a side of braised tofu. My friend picked out one of their sweet rice cakes and a tuna kimbap. Everything was flavorful, well seasoned, and not overly oily or salty, so I would certainly come back for the ease of choosing what I wanted very conveniently. Overall, service was polite, and our food came out within ten minutes, since they happened to run out of the vegan kimbap. Everything else: They do take credit card, and there is ample parking in a shared plaza, although I remember it being rather busy during the dinner rush. I came here around 9:45am on a Saturday because I wanted to try their teokbokki, kimbap, and friend chicken. But I was too early for their teokbokki. That comes out around 10:30am. I didn't want to wait around for it. So I ended up with their anchovy and spam and eggs kimbap, half and half friend chicken and their kimchi. Anchovy kimbap was ! I would definitely get it again. Spam and eggs kimbap was not very good. I feel like I can make it better at home. Fried chicken was delicious. Not the best I've ever had. But I'd definitely come back and order it again. It's not too heavily sauced, which I appreciated. Kimchi was just okay. Not as crunchy as I would've hoped. I got it because it had oysters in it. Cute spot. I love the family business feel. I called after the braised skate was not good and was offerd a $15 credit. Whrn I returned, I was told the drink would be free, but later I found it was still charged and the credit was nott applied. When I went back to explain, they said they couldn`t remember the situation. I eebtually received the credit($16) , but the experience was disappointing. Tasty! But the prices are higher than grocery stores... I sometimes visit this place to pick up Korean banchan (side dishes). They are always busy... This usually means the food is tasty. Many times, the workers are busy working to make banchan off to the side. The ladies at the counter are friendly and very nice. I've tried most of their items and they have all been good. I've been here at least 10 times, and every single visit, the cashier lady has been consistently rude. What's especially frustrating is that she seems very friendly and kind to Korean elderly customers, but not to the rest. I've made an effort to be extra polite each time, just to make sure I wasn't the issue, but I was still met with a negative attitude. I see all the English reviews are complaining about her lol. I found this place searching for Korean food around the area. I was pleasantly surprised to see all the selections of banchans they had. This is a small little place around the corner next to the optometry store & alterations. I didn't know this place was here until a few months ago. This is the 2nd time I've been back picking up their kimbap. It's filled with quality ingredients and not too much rice. Love that this place makes the side dishes fresh. If you're in need of getting your Korean food fix at home, Oh Mama Kitchen is your place to go for that need. Since we were in the area, friend and I stopped by to grab some food to enjoy later. Decent amount of parking in the lot. We easily found a spot and stopped by around 2 pm. They constantly stock their shelves and fridge so we weren't concerned about missing out on an item we wanted. Plenty of side dishes, main entrees, desserts, and drinks to choose from! I picked up their steak bulgogi kimbap ($10), large japchae ($10), and some mochi ($7.50). I had initially wanted their non-spicy fish cake but they only had the small container ($8) of the non-spicy and the large container only had the spicy fish cake ($10) so I skipped out on that. I also appreciated that the person ringing up my order asked if I was going to eat the japchae that same day, as I had picked up the refrigerated box that's already cool and good for heating up later and not the container that was freshly made and still warm. The inside isn't too big and if there are a lot of customers inside, it may feel a bit cramped. Luckily, most people know what they want, so the line to check out isn't long. Title: Strange Unpleasant Odors and Animal Hair Found in Food I purchased Yukgaejang, Bean Sprout Soup, Fresh Kimchi (Geotjeori), Cucumber Kimchi, and Radish Kimchi from Oh Mama Kitchen in La Mirada last week. Multiple dishes had a very strange and unidentifiable odor. The Yukgaejang had a peculiar smell from the start, and the same was true for the Fresh Kimchi and Cucumber Kimchi. It seemed like oysters were used in the kimchi, but the smell I'm referring to was not the scent of oysters. Aside from the oyster aroma, there was a very distinct, unpleasant smell from the ingredients or preparation that made it very difficult to eat. It wasn't a smell from being old or spoiled, but a strange odor present from the beginning. Furthermore, while eating the Fresh Kimchi, I found a 1-inch long hair that looked like pet hair (dog or cat). Due to this and the off-putting smell, I had to throw away both the Fresh Kimchi and the Cucumber Kimchi. While the Bean Sprout Soup and Radish Kimchi were fine, the other items were inedible for me. I did not contact the store directly, but I am sharing exactly what happened. Those who are particularly sensitive to food odors should take note. read more

Chicken was super crunchy and well seasoned and I loved that the ddukbokki came with a lot of sauce to dip my kimbap in. Literally tastes like homemade food by mama. I also got their chives kimchi to try. As a Korean, I love good banchans stocked up in the fridge so that I can easily fix a meal just with white rice and banchan but the market ones are overpriced and not tasty and they end up going bad cuz I don't finish them. When you walk in, you're greeted by a vast selection of side dishes, soups, meals, entrees, and snacks, all packed into a very small store. I got carried away and picked up everything I usually enjoy, only to be shocked by the high prices at checkout. You'd think the cost would reflect quality and taste, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. My family didn't enjoy any of it - we ended up leaving most of it untouched and eventually throwing it all out. The flavors were either too salty, too sweet, or just bland. Kimbap, on the other hand, was okay. I'd rather buy from H-Mart's food corner instead. The service could have been better; it felt like the staff wasn't particularly appreciative of my business, coming across as a bit overconfident and prideful. He apologized, I said not a problem, and then I was on my way, with a delicious vegan kimbap and a packet of soy sauce. Vegetarian review: food was very good. All stars are for food. The vegan kimbap was not out on the shelf, but you can ask and they'll make you one. It only takes a minute or two (but be careful to move aside immediately after you pay). They were very welcoming. It was my first time trying Korean food and they gave me some excellent recommendations. I can see why these dishes are so popular. My order was packaged neatly and all of my items were great. AMBIANCE It's small inside but they do have about 3-5 tables for seating. It was very clean. They have a freezer with some restaurant made frozen dumplings if you'd like to purchase a larger amount to make at home.
