Last year Brett helped me print show flyers. He was so helpful and so knowledgeable I was 100% happy with his service and my flyers. This was a five star experience. A year later I returned and asked the employee (Mee) at the print center for help and she told me I had to order online. I said "OK but last year when I was here somebody helped me. Can you help with me with these so I can get them today?" She repeated that I would have to go online. "OK, so I just wanna be clear-- you're not gonna help me?" She reluctantly helped me and printed a of couple flyers (which took less than five minutes) and then I ordered the rest online. I should've known better than to order more flyers, so I should probably rent myself one out of five stars as well. I placed two orders by 2 PM on a Tuesday because I needed them on Thursday so I knew they would be ready on Wednesday. They were NOT ready by Thursday. I needed some of the items on Friday so I went in to see what the holdup was. Mee was there. She could not explain why nothing was ready. I asked, "How long will it take for me to get to one flyer?" She told me 30 minutes. "30 minutes? To print ONE flyer?" "Yeah, because it evolves cutting." Really? One piece of paper that you don't have to cut at all will take 30 minutes because it involves cutting? I did not have 30 minutes to watch her print one simple piece of paper because I had to go to get ready for this event. One of my orders was ready on Saturday and the other one was ready on Monday. Apparently someone messed up the second order because even though I received a phone call that it was available, I could not find it in the order pick up area. I looked through each order three times. Then Mee couldn't find it. She didn't seem to believe me that someone called me, so I literally played the voicemail for her twice. She found it in a different area where packages are delivered. Apparently my order was shipped to another location and then someone caught the mistake and shipped it to Alameda. Yesterday i was given a $10 off coupon with my purchase. I was ready to come back and redeem it today when i realized it had expired a month ago, but I just received it yesterday! The associate i spoke to offered no help. Another time, i watched a little old lady come in asking to send a fax. The associate said, "printing services are closed, you can come back tomorrow or use self service." she asked for help using self service and he said, "its real easy, someone will be in printing tomorrow morning if you need help." Then leaned on a counter to chit chat with another sales associate as the little old lady, slowly walked out. I could not believe they didn't just offer to send her fax. read more

I drafted my business card but did not know how to upload it to the OfficeMax website. I went to the Alameda, CA Office Max at 1:00 p.m., and Mee P. advised me to enlarge the font size to make the card clearer and add a background color for a better presentation. Although she was the only person working at the counter, she multitasked efficiently and still took the time to help finalize my business card. She remained patient, calm, and professional while assisting four different customers at the same time as I worked on enlarging my font size. The final product looked great. I left the store at 2:00 p.m. and will return after 6:00 p.m. to pick up my order of 250 business cards. The $10 design assistance fee was absolutely worth it, along with the order of 250 business cards. I highly recommend Mee P. to anyone visiting the store for help with their projects. read more

When I arrived the copy center person was apparently on break (the store had literally just opened) and another clerk told me it would be at least 2 hours to print 15 color copies on premium paper. I offered to self serve and do it myself even though I had already paid them to do it. She told me it would be at least an hour before I could get assistance. How ad such a great experience at the Alameda OfficeMax thanks to Dupree. I believe he's a manager, but regardless of his title he provided truly exceptional customer service, even while the store was clearly short staffed. He had such great energy and immediately noticed when I looked a little confused. He checked in, helped guide me in the right direction, and made the whole experience feel easy and welcoming. It's rare to come across someone who is both attentive and genuinely kind while also managing the pace of a busy store. Dupree was professional, patient, and clearly takes pride in what he does. Because of him, I will absolutely find a reason to come back here even though I don't usually shop at OfficeMax. People like Dupree make a big difference in a customer's experience. Managers behavior I wish I could give you 0 Stars there's a manager by the name of Paul that works here. I don't know what it was with him but Sat may 31 2025 I walked into the Alameda store and was standing in line. I was the third person and he was helping one person and one person was waiting in line. He skipped past them and asked me could he help me? I explained to him what I was trying to do which I knew would've took more time so I was OK with waiting my turn, but he said go do this. Go do that and go do that and you go over there and do this Mind you when I got in the store it was 630. I just left out the store at 7:20 And I still didn't get done what I needed to do not one time did he come over and try to help me the employee who was trying to help me didn't know how but he continuously tried and he went to the manager three times to explain to him that he needed help helping me because he didn't know and the manager for some reason, just refuse to come and help me even when I asked he just looked right over me I've never seen this man before in my life But I will be reporting this to the corporate office. Quality/Quantity - I came here to make my copies because the ink in all my printers is ALWAYS dry... My choice is either spending 15¢ (16¢ in Reno) for a copy or $25-$40 for an ink cartridge for my 3 semi broken printers that will just dry out the next time I need to use it. My New Year's resolution is to stop buying so much stuff on Amazon! So today I got over my dislike for Officemax and went down to Southshore (Shopping Center) and went shopping for office supplies. The store had very few customers and everyone was social distancing. A store person was walking around offering assistance. I got what I was looking for, and headed to the cashier. My experience today was uneventful. But that's good. If these stores go out of business, Southshore Center will be replaced with condos and apartments. It's important to actually see and touch products. You get to decide whether they're worth buying or not. read more

I arrived the evening of February 5, 2026. I first noticed a sign, in the printing area that said, No one is available for assistance, the secon employee is on break. There was an older Asian lady, I did not get her name, assisting others. I stood back, waited patiently, then, mentioned the sign. I asked, kindly what time would she be able to help. She asked what I needed which was direction on how to print, she pointed me to a gentleman with a hat, sitting in front, behind the desk on a computer. He explained what to do and after about 15 miin I was unable to complete the printin. I asked for assistance and she said she would not know what to do. It must be a problem with my phone. During the 15 minutes, another customer was having a similar problem , the same lady constantly interacted with her, wanting to know if she was able to get her information printed. She was frustrated as well but at there was some concern. Fir me, there was no help in site. The gentleman moved away from the front all the way to a far corner. I went on the complaint website for Office Max, now owned by Office Depot.One of the top complaints was rudeness, and poor customer service, so the company is well aware. All is well, if anyone runs into this problem, I went over to Fed Ex on Atlantic in Alameda California. They provide excellent customer service and assistance read more

I would like to give excellent customer service to one of the floor rep employees, she was working and as well walking around and asking if anyone needs help/assistance. This is a terrible store. I tried to print something. The website did not work so I had to come to the store in person. Took me at least half an hour to even just send the job for printing. Then told me they will email and text me when the job is done. I Never received text nor email about the job status. Then I called. They said it was ready an hour ago. Then I came in. The piece needs some paper cutting before binding. Then I started to sit down and cut the paper. You know what? The staff is GONE. Need an 18x24 foam board sign printed for my son's birthday. Went online and went through the entire process and realized that they would need it delivered to me. I need it within the week so I called to see if I can pick something up. Took me FOREVER for someone to pick up. Then they did and said that most likely they don't have the size board I want so that's why there wasn't an option to pick it up online but he would check with the printing department. Transferred me and its been 20 minutes+ and no one has picked up. I'm now going through local printing services. I'm always so torn to support local and pay more OR go with a corporate company knowing they can do something. In this case why would I ever support big corporate companies? I used to use this store quite a bit for printing posters and pamphlets for my organization. There's a slender woman who was excellent in taking orders and caring for clients needs. If you're fortunate to get her she's 5 star. I haven't been able to work with her recently. Instead there's a shorter lady that has the worst customer service skills I've ever encountered. I went in today and as she tried to ignore me tapping on a keyboard she finally looked up as if it was bother to her for me to be there. After briefly saying that I had some issues with ordering online. I ask when will the other store employee be in. She tell me, "She's not in today, and when she's not I'm in charge and you will have to order online". I simply said, "I'll order somewhere else". I typically spend about $500-$1k in that store a year. Everybody has a bad day or a one off. Every time I've been there shes probably the worst employee I've experienced in the whole plaza. I won't be back because of my interactions with the worst person that could ever work in the most customer service related part of their business. I don't know how people so rude get hired and retained. I have been in customer service your 26 years, and no the customer isn't always right, but dignity and respect should always be on display. Owning 2 businesses and having relationships with thousands of people throughout the years I will strongly be recommending if they see the person I'm referring to walk away. Do not waste your time coming at 9am show up around 10am. This review is for the printing services only. The night before an event, I needed 150 color copies of a program. The original color copier we had planned on using wasn't working, and after a quick Yelp search, we found OfficeMax. This was around 7:45pm, and with OfficeMax closing at 9pm, I called to see if they could have our order ready by 9am the following day. I spoke to Seon, who assured me that if I had the order in before they closed, she would make sure the order was ready when the store opened the next day. I quickly submitted our order online, added on the folding option for our programs and submitted the order. I called and Seon verified that they had received the order. Less than an hour later, around 8:25pm, I received an email saying that our order was ready for pickup! We were surprised and pleased, as this would take a burden off our shoulders and result in less rush the following day. My husband went to pick the order up, and the programs were beautifully done and folded. I can't speak for other services here, but kudos to Seon and her team for the quick turnaround on printing! read more

Brett, the printing person, was awesome! Not only did he do the initial job for my father's funeral program on the spot (which gave me a big relief because I didn't know how long of a lead time was needed), he helped me with the reprint because of a family dispute and felt really bad that I had to pay for a whole other set for just one adjustment. He gave me an adjusted price which was super sweet of him - I could tell he understood how distraught I was over it. He is the ultimate in customer service and I really felt supported by his actions and empathetic comments. read more

Wow, this place has really gone downhill. I try to shop in person at real stores instead of Amazon when I can. I needed some supplies for my home business, as well as some colored pens and glue for my son for Christmas. I've been to this store in the past, but not for a couple years. It was a disaster! The store had almost no stock. Like, I went to get printer paper, and there were some boxes of 10 reams, but if you wanted only 1 ream, there were only a few kinds, and only like one or two of each. I just wanted standard 8.5x11 recycled paper, and they didn't have any! The paper shelf was almost empty. And what they did have was kind of pricey. $23 for one ream of paper? Then I looked for envelopes, standard #10 with self-stick. It was like $16 for a box of 50. Really? I stood there in the aisle and checked Amazon pricing, thinking maybe I am just out of touch with current inflation and prices. Nope, it wasn't me. $5 on Amazon. I'm willing to pay a little premium to support a real store, even if it is big-box, but not that much! I tried to find correction tape and walked down every aisle. I couldn't find it. I tried to find someone who works there, but the only people I could find were checking out customers. Finally I saw an employee, so I followed where I saw him go. He came out of an aisle and was walking toward me, so I said excuse me and asked. He didn't make eye contact or stop walking, just said at the end of aisle 8 as he brushed past me. I'd looked in aisle 8 like three times, because it seemed like the most likely place. Well, although the man was rude, he was right, it was there. Only in bulk boxes (e.g., boxes of 16), on a shelf that was labeled for a different product so I couldn't even tell what the price was. I only needed one or two, so I passed. Throughout the store, all the shelves were half-empty, disheveled, and with stock in the wrong places. It was awful! I did find the colored pens and glue that I wanted. I ended up getting just those two things and planning to buy my business supplies from a different place another time, and all I wanted was to get out of that awful store. Funny story Corporate if you are reviewing Yelp about the people hired to represent your business. Please review the store video to support this information. I went in to purchase an item around 6 pm this evening October 17, 2022. Never had anything to post regarding previous purchases. Tonight however, I had a strange encounter with GREG. GREG-You can put that on the counter ( scale 5/10) Me-thinking that he's talking to the customer that he's ringing up because that is such a random command when the item is the size of my hand GREG-PUT THAT DOWN HERE - pointing to the counter Me asking politely (check the video) - do I have to? (Wondering why I've never seen anyone or been commanded to set items down on the counter anywhere or at any time). GREG reaches over the counter and snatches the item from my hand, places it forcefully on the counter and replies "YES" I walked out of the store. As I was leaving GREG added "Have a nice evening" dripping in as much sarcastic wit as he could muster. Again please check the store video to hear his comment. Later this evening I called to find out his name. The coworker initially stated that he was gone. When I told her that I'm in my car and I'm looking at him he came to the phone, confirming that his name is GREG and stated that he didn't "snatch" the item he "took" the item out of my hands. Woah, holy terrible customer service. I ordered a black ergonomic chair from Office Max, with assembly. Note: this was a chair advertised on their floor. When they called to tell me it was ready for pickup, a gray chair awaited. Their process required me to cancel the order and re-order, as they now did not have the chair in stock. The re-ordering process took 30 minutes due to a string of management, customer service, communication, and technology debacles. My interaction with the store manager during this time gave me the distinct impression he cared neither for basic principles of customer service nor his employees. About a week after re-ordering I received an email saying my chair was on its way to the store and would arrive in two days. Three days later I called to check on the order and was told by the person who answered my call "not to trust" the email dates from headquarters, they didn't have the chair despite the headquarters website saying it had been delivered, and they would call me when the order arrived. Over a month went by. I called back and was unable to get someone to pick up the phone at the store. I texted the Office Depot help line for an update and received no response. I called the headquarters help line and they confirmed the chair was delivered over a month ago. With me on the line they tried calling the store but were also unable to get anyone to pick up. They offered to cancel the order so I did so. They also let me know that they could immediately re-order the chair as it was showing in stock at the store. It was probably in stock because it was my order that they had mismanaged placed in stock instead of made available for pickup by me! I declined to re-order for the third time from the store that had messed my order up twice. I will say that during this experience, and purchasing a few other items in store, I had interactions with two employees on the floor who were extremely pleasant and helpful. I appreciated them greatly and feel bad that they work for a store so mired in poor management. Why the four stars? Nope, it's not the few employees at the copying center. It's a service that I did not know they had until I looked at their ad for this week's special and it ended today. The special was shredding documents at a price of 74 cents a pound (normally 99 cents a pound). I have two paper shredders at home, but can one imagine how I feel, spending about a half-day shredding the pre-approved credit card applications, old billing statements from different creditors and old cancelled checks? It's boring and tedious!!! Ugh! Ugh! Ugh! Thus, I am very content to pay Office Max to have their contractor shred the stuff for me. The only drawback to this is they do not have just one cardboard box and one lid to sell me for my dumping of documents to be shredded. I had to buy in bulk (10 cardboard boxes with lids). Never mind about their customer service, as long as I can go in whenever to drop off my box of old documents to be shredded. read more

My home is one and a half miles from OfficeMax, located at Southshore Center. For the past ten years, I have gone to OfficeMax for color printing, especially where the color prints are on heavy paper, for scanning documents to create jpeg files, and for buying various office supplies. Last year, I had another exhibition of my landscape photographs, and I wanted to provide all of the guests with a 9-page artist's statement. My exhibit was of photographs from Death Valley and from Joshua Tree National Park, and the show was at PhotoLab gallery in Berkeley. Attached here are two parts my artist's statement, and these show my photographs as well as part of my scientific commentary on how sand dunes are created. I paid for 50 copies of my artist's statement, and the job done by OfficeMax was absolutely FIRST RATE ! ! ! One of my neighbors in Alameda has a teenaged son who is skilled in drawing cartoons, and so I wanted to teach him about an artist (Roger Brown) who's paintings were similar to cartoons. At home, I created a ten page educational paper about Roger Brown with examples of several of his paintings. I brought a pdf file containing my educational paper to OfficeMax, and they did a perfect job at printing copies of it. I gave a copy of my educational paper to the boy's family. The colors were perfect, and the objects (hills, trees, clouds, farms, tornados) in all of Roger Brown's paintings were distinct in the printing job. OTHER SUPPLIES. In addition to getting color printing done and to getting documents scanned, on two occasions I have purchased a HP Laserjet 26A cartridge for use with my home printer. The HP Laserjet cartridge from OfficeMax has never failed me, and the printed documents always have printing that is precise (I use this printer for my daytime job, which is legal work). Also, I was glad to discover that OfficeMax carries STAEDTLER pens, where the tips come in four different sizes (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7). I needed to buy these fancy pens, in order to make drawings on the blank upper surface of compact discs, where I used these CD's for making compilations of rock'n'roll music. The issue with the brand of CD that I bought, is that pencils cannot write on its slick surface. But the STAEDTLER pens came to the rescue, and these pens enabled me to make drawings on the CD, which I later painted with Testors enamel. In addition, I've purchased envelopes of various sizes and Elmer's glue from OfficeMax. THE STAFF. The staff at the printing center in OfficeMax go about their activities like a clockwork. Each of the staff members is skilled at multi-tasking. When I first began doing business at the OfficeMax printing center, I once told one of the young lady employees that she was, "THE SMART ONE." But over the next several months, I came to learn that all of the employees in the printing center are SMART ONES. read more

This is by far the worst Office Max I have been to. I came with a coupon, which apparently was only online. Cool not a problem, my problem is that the cashier assumed I was trying to get 20% without buying anything when I clearly placed multiple items on the counter. 2. The manager comes and talks to me like I'm an idiot "In ThE FiNE PrINT" about a coupon. "I'm sorry it's only online" would've worked. Brought my laptop in for a minor software issue I didn't know how to fix. We're in week 4 of the shelter in place, so of course I called ahead. I was told by someone (others have suggested it was the manager Lee) to bring it in, leave it for a 30 minute diagnostic, and then he could quote the repair price. I stood in line outside to drop it off at 3:45 on a Friday, and was told it would take about an hour to diagnose. At 4:45, someone called and said it would be a little longer. I called at around 6, and was told it would be gotten to at the end of the shift, or first thing in the morning. I called around 10am the next day, and talked to Sean, who said either he'd get to it, or the person coming on at 11 would. I called at 1p, and was told by Charles that he didn't really know how to fix software issues, and that only Lee (the manager) knew enough about computers to diagnose and/or fix it. I asked when Lee would be in, and no one seemed to know. I spoke again to Sean, he wasn't sure Lee could fix it, and suggested I pick it up. Every person I spoke with blamed the person before him for not leaving notes or completing the task. After picking it up, I've found there's all sorts of new scanning software installed that wasn't uninstalled. It also wasn't run, and says "no last scan." My task-bar no longer autohides, and I can't seem to get it to do that. There's all these (usually hidden) system icons that can't be unpinned from the task bar. In summary, I dropped my computer off during the pandemic. They assured me turn-around on a diagnostic would be fast. Instead, the failed to diagnose, and left my computer worse off than it was. This particular store has for years had constantly wonderfully helpful, pleasant and patient staff. I'd like to think it's my vibe but that's not the case everywhere. I decided to go with Office Max for reprinting some publications of mine. The order is pretty straight forward. They called me after I left and had me return to basically set-up the proper order of the pages used in the books. Note: the pages are numbered. I explained this several times. Received my order and I am fairly disappointed in the work...not totally but fairly. Whoever placed the pages to be copied paid absolutely NO attention to placement and the printing is slightly off-center on some pages, making the images disappear into the crease of the book. Bottom line...I most certainly will NOT be back and cannot recommend Office Max for printing to anyone. read more

This review is not about the staff at this location. The several persons we dealt with today were great and went out of their way. (Without them, this would be a 1 star review.) We are in the process of moving and are in need of packing supplies. We've used our storage facility for supplies as well as another local shipping store. Office Max had good prices on bubble wrap, tape, and boxes. There were several buy 2, get one free, or buy, 3, get one free specials. Great. Today, our second visit for these, I actually checked my receipt. None of the "discounts" appeared correct. Some double charges, some zero charges for products. Well, whereas there was some human errors also, the vast majority were "software issues". We bought 2 types of bubble wrap, 3 sizes of boxes, and 1 type of tape, all on special plus some non-sale items. Rather than charging the advertised rates, the computer system does the following: (these are made up numbers for example) bubble size 1: $30 , bubble size 2: $20, Tape $10. So rather than charging 30, 30, 30, (-30), 20, 20, 20, (-20), 10, 10, 10, (-10). It was 30, 30, 30, 20, 20, 20, 10, 10, 10, (-10), (-10), (-10). So, we had to haul all of the merchandise back in, refund it all, then do several individual sales. (The same for the 3 size boxes, 4 each). Result, about 20 extra minutes for us and the staff and a $50 refund for us. Thanks to the staff, but booo to the company for the rip-off. read more
