Seasonal Sour (Pineapple flavored)
Veronica P.

Came here to kill some time before going into a Muay Thai event at Pure and ordered a sour. They only had one seasonal sour which was pineapple flavored. I actually liked this sour as it wasn't too tart, but has a little fruitiness and sweetness to it. This brewery is pretty spacious and has two stories. Not much of a menu, but would try the food next time.

Visited on a Saturday night for a football watch party, and it was a blast! It surprisingly wasn't super busy, and there was a ton of space. There were several rooms in the bar and lots of seating in each room. The bartender was incredibly friendly, and the service was fast. Drinks were solid (albeit a pretty penny). I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the bar - everyone was having a great time. I didn't try the food, but those who did said they had some delicious options. I'd definitely come back for more drinks!

Western BBQ Burger

A brewery should have beers! We were definitely disappointed during our visit to find that only 5 out of 14 beers were available due to an issue with their refrigerator. We entered through the back door of the restaurant and noticed a strange, dingy odor. After walking around for a bit with no staff in sight, we decided to seat ourselves at a table. Eventually, a server came by to assist us. Julio was friendly and provided good service. Since we visited during Sunnyvale Restaurant Week, we tried their $13 burger-and-beer deal. To our surprise, the Western BBQ Burger was excellent, very flavorful, with delicious BBQ sauce. Not sure if we'll be back.

Quality/Quantity - Sadly my last few visits here have NOT been positive. I can understand your 3.7 stars and dropping... Finished my chores early, and dinner was not for a few hours, so why not support another local business, brewery. Plus it was happy hour. Got a pint of Frostbound and Trappist Red. HH prices - $6 a beer; yet the Red Clover is only $5... Might be a reason for that, as I still chose the more expensive beers. Atmosphere - Fairly large location. 2 stories. Indoor and outdoor seating. Huge patio in the rear of the building. Garage parking across the street. Events; see website and/or pictures. St. Paddy's weekend celebrations also; see pictures. Open 7 days a week. Back in the day, this place used to be crazy busy, especially on weekends on nice warm evenings. I sure miss those days. Service - Fail (as usual). Almost NO customers, and I was the only person at the bar for the longest time. Still could not get service. And I never got my water, until I finally asked again before leaving. The "manager" was also not welcoming. No eye contact. I tried to make small talk, but that was a waste of my time. Price - $13 + more generous tip than earned or deserved. I hope it made a better day for them. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success here since 1993 as Stoddard's Brewhouse. 2005 - As Firehouse Grill and Brewery. 2019 - Off the Rails Brewing. I have been a customer with all 3 brands... But will probably take a break from your brand as there are so many good competitors nearby.

Sorry for low rating but do not recommend this place at all. Went for Thursday night trivia and there were about 50-70 people upstairs playing with one server who could never be found. I understand he had a ton of tables but the restaurant needs to staff more appropriately. Separately the price to portion left alot to be desired. The pretzel bites are around $10-12 I believe and it came out with FIVE which shakes out to $2-2.5 per bite. Ridiculous. Just go for beers, don't eat here. Or just go in with low expectations

OTR is a great place for groups. We were able to order and pay for our meals separately. I opted for the fish and chips. It was just okay. They had a great selection of beers and well-made cocktails. They use cubed ice for certain drinks (A++). We all came here because it was conveniently located near Pure. Otherwise, we probably wouldn't have stopped by.

We were looking for a place to have dinner and drinks for the folks who wanted to have either in downtown Sunnyvale, so given the number of food options and space thought it would be a good option! We were greeted quickly and got our order in, but it was interesting how some of the appetizers like fries came after the entrees. 3.5/5 Pizza Margherita was decent, had a better crust than the actual flavor. I was intrigued because they had a fire oven so thought it would be nice, but the toppings and dough lacked in quality. If you are feeling pizza it's not bad. 4/5 Penne alla Rosa was pretty good, it's a light sauce that had the pink sauce flavor you would get from a vodka sauce, except not as rich. The garlic bread was a classic garlic bread you would get at an American Italian restaurant, so paired well. The quantity was at least huge. 2.5/5 Pretzel bites were small and so few, and kind of disappointing. The sauce was different with a spicy, cheesy strong cheddar flavor, but nothing you felt like eating more of. The pretzel bites were really dry. 4/5 Cajun Garlic Fries looked super inticing, especially because it's the best of both worlds. The garlic was pretty cooked and dark brown, which actually took away from the flavor of the garlic itself. I could only taste the Cajun, so took away from the appeal. The hours are early so we were being told to leave mid bite while they were cleaning up at 10pm. But I guess that's downtown Sunnyvale for you, however it would have been nice if for a beer restaurant that they stayed open later.

A couple pints and some finger foods ... all of it was pretty good. In particular, the mushroom empanadas were very tasty. The chicken wings were also good but they are basted in that thick, sticky, sweet sauce, so you gotta like that. Fried calamari was light and fluffy. Beers on tap of several varieties. Service was fast to start, but we ordered the calamari in the "second batch" and they took 20+ minutes. Not cool. But this has a real brew pub atmosphere and there are games on the tv's. Pretty cool hangout spot.

I came here to Off The Rails Brewing for HH with some coworkers. Lively place. Though they had loud house music playing so it was hard to carry on a conversation. They have trivia nights on Wed and Thursday, I think. They offer inside and outside patio seating. In addition, to a back area seating and 2nd story seating. The parking is hard because there is very little street parking. They mostly have parking lot parking but since it is a very popular area full of restaurants and businesses. It can be hard during peak hours. It's always packed. Some coworkers said they had to circle around 2-3 times in other parking lots before finally finding a space. Typical bar food, like sandwiches, or fried appetizers. It was hard to take pics as the food was passed around, and nobody was going to wait for my pics. LOL. *Chicken Wings: served with ranch, and choice of house Buffalo, Bourbon bbq sauce, lemon pepper dry rub. The table had house buffalo and lemon pepper dry rub. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try them or get a picture. *Fried Risotto Balls: fried balls of risotto, mushrooms, parmesan cheese, served with cheese sauce. Unfortunately, same as they were gobbled up before I could snap a pic or get one. *Onion Rings: beer battered onion rings & ranch (4/5). Good and nicely fried. *Fried Calamari: breaded and fried calamari & chipotle aioli (4/5). - nicely fried and not oily. Both tentacles and the tubes/body. *Cashew Chicken: Asian style chicken bites, roasted cashews, & broccoli tossed in a tangy spicy sauce, tossed with sesame seeds (4/5). This was pretty good. I'd get this again. *Mushroom Empanadas: Marinated mushrooms, cheese, truffle oil, served with tangy cilantro sauce (3/5). There is no pic, but i got to try this. It was good, rich, & flavorful. *Margherita Pizza: Fresh tomatoes, cheese, garlic, fresh basil, and extra virgin olive oil (3.5/5). *Bacon Brussel Sprouts: roasted brussel sprouts & bacon bits tossed in lemon vinaigrette & balsamic reduction (4/5). I liked it, though I wish it was charred or blistered more. But the bacon bits were housemade and big pieces or bacon. It was good! I wanted to try their Raspberry Sour or Mango Sour, but they were out. Bummer. I went for the Kolsch: cologne style ale 5% (4/5). I enjoyed this, and it was smooth and didn't have that sharp, bitter taste. My coworkers didn't care for it because he likes his beer "crisp with that sharp bite." They do have a good selection of food and drinks.

Was nearly empty on a Wednesday lunch hour, which was fine by me as we were seated immediately and it was quiet. Many beers from which to choose, I had the Otis stout. Hubby had a glass of Pinot Noir and quickly learned to stick to beer at a brewery. Our table ordered calamari, pretzel bites, mushroom empanadas, fish and chips and shrimp beet salad. Everyone enjoyed the food, generous serving size as well. There is a large seating area upstairs that can be reserved for events.

Attended an event here this past Saturday, "Evening of Illusion: A Night of Magic & Mischief" a show combining magic and comedy. Had a couple cocktails during my time here, the caribbean fusion and strawberry vodka lemonade (both drinks were delicious but weak in alcohol). The service at the downstairs bar was a bit lacking and inattentive. And there was no bar available on the second level, which seemed a little inconvenient since events take place upstairs. You wouldn't know that though, walking in here, as there were no signs for the event or any kind of instructions at all. We were confused when we walked up the stairs to see a chess competition taking place. But as we surveyed the room, we found a little door at the corner leading to a small dark and stuffy room for the show, seriously they crammed us in there like sardines (stuffed a bunch of chairs in what looked like a storage space of some sort). They couldn't even put on dim lights or decorative lighting so that people wouldn't bump into each other once it got dark outside (nor lights during intermission), and the ceiling fans were not in use even though people were sweating up a storm (not us though cuz we sat next to an open window, thank goodness). On top of that, sound and viewing was terrible, the mic only working half the time and with distorted sound, and they started about 30 minutes late (one hour after listed ticket time) and ended one hour later as well. If they aren't going to have better seating arrangements, they should probably tell the entertainers to lift up higher what they're showing the audience so that those in the back can see. That being said, the show was kinda funny, and the "magic" was entertaining enough, so it wasn't all bad. But the poor planning and organization for everything makes it hard for me to give anything more than 2 stars (I think people potentially attending events here should be warned). Although I appreciate that they do events here, they should probably minimize to what they can actually handle and provide a good experience for. If you're coming here solely for the beer, your experience may be satisfactory, but if coming here for anything else, you may be slightly disappointed (as of April 2024) unless they decide to make significant improvements.

ARE WE IN SILICON VALLEY? 4.5…read more One might never know this restaurant exists, tucked away near a Google business park just off Highway 101. You could stumble upon it through Yelp (as we did), discover it while staying at the adjacent Treehouse Hotel, or simply hear about it through word of mouth. The parking situation is an interesting one. After turning into the driveway from Mathilda Avenue, you have two options: turn right for valet parking or left into the Google parking lot. There are plenty of spaces available, though parking there is technically at your own risk. The restaurant told us they had not heard of anyone being ticketed or towed. We first dined here shortly after it opened in 2025 and were immediately impressed by the beautiful grounds. The hotel's eco-conscious gift shop, housed in a glass greenhouse and featuring a colorful vintage VW Bug, is a charming touch. The short walk to the restaurant feels especially relaxing on a warm, sunny day. This has become one of our favorite places to bring friends or host girls' lunches. With three distinct seating options: the dining room, bar, and patio, there's an atmosphere to suit just about any occasion, whether you're dining as a couple or gathering with a larger group. I would recommend visiting during lunch or dinner service and skipping the in-between hours. During that time, only the bar area is open and the menu is more limited. To fully experience what Valley Goat has to offer, lunch or dinner is the way to go. Despite the name, the only goat dish on the menu at the time of this review is the Goat Empanadas. My friend was initially hesitant to order them, but David, our wonderful server, and I encouraged her to give them a try. She was glad she did. There was no gamey flavor whatsoever; the meat tasted more like beef, and the accompanying sauce was excellent. Over several visits, we've enjoyed everything we've ordered and are delighted to have a restaurant of this caliber in our Bay Area backyard. Chef and co-owner Stephanie Izard, winner of Season 4 of Top Chef and an Iron Chef title, owns a total of nine restaurants, primarily in the Chicago area, along with locations in Los Angeles and one at Orlando International Airport. Since we enjoy traveling for great food, we'll definitely be adding some of her other restaurants to our list.

The service was quite slow throughout the evening. We ordered the goat empanadas, wood-fired Mary's chicken, sprouted cauliflower, eggplant, and sticky pork shank. What surprised me most was how similar everything tasted. From the appetizers to the main dishes, the flavors seemed repetitive and lacked distinction. Each dish looked appealing, but none really stood out. Overall, the food felt uninspired, and I didn't get the sense that much care had gone into developing unique flavors for the menu. Given the many 5-star reviews, I was expecting much more and left feeling disappointed. The ambiance is lovely, but I would not return for the food. Don't be misled by the photos, they were far more impressive than the actual dining experience.

At that point, there were only two other small parties in the restaurant. We were initially seated directly next to a group that was clearly enjoying themselves and being somewhat lively. Since most of the restaurant was empty, we politely asked if we could sit elsewhere. We were moved to another small table, and then asked if we could have one of the empty booths instead. The server said he would check with the manager, but the manager declined, even though approximately 90% of the restaurant was empty. We then placed our order. My wife ordered the salmon, and I ordered the mussels, along with the beet and strawberry salad. When the salad arrived, my wife noticed there were no beets in it. We pointed this out to the server, who said he would speak with the manager. The manager eventually brought out a corrected salad. Shortly afterward, however, the server informed me that they were out of mussels. This was especially frustrating because the mussels were the main reason we chose this restaurant--we had enjoyed them on a previous visit and specifically came back for them. To make matters worse, about ten minutes later, two families with children were seated directly next to us, despite the restaurant still being largely empty. Given the abundance of available seating, it felt unnecessary and made the dining experience less enjoyable. Overall, the combination of the seating situation, ordering issues, and lack of accommodation left us disappointed with what had previously been a restaurant we enjoyed visiting.

In fact, I was just telling a coworker this week how good their burgers were, which is what convinced me to stop in for lunch today. Unfortunately, this visit was a huge disappointment. I ordered a burger, my wife had the chicken tenders, and we shared an order of cheese fries. The burger arrived completely undercooked. The pictures don't even do it justice--it wasn't just rare, it was raw. After a few bites I realized the meat wasn't even warm in the center. Since they use pre-formed patties, I'd think cooking them consistently would be one of the easier things to get right. By the time I realized how raw it was, I'd already eaten a few bites, and the meal was ruined. We ended up spending about $50 on a lunch that was essentially inedible. It was also 1:00 p.m. on a Saturday, and the restaurant was surprisingly empty. Maybe that's a sign that things have changed, but it's sad to see.
