This place had good bread, dips, and desert. However, we were gravely disappointed by the main dish that cost around $30 and was a combo of very salty tomato sauce, potato dumplings, and ground beef; it was not good and we waited for an hour and a half because the waitress was drunk and couldn't understand what we said. She then threatened to call the police because we said, we weren't going to pay for this dish. Thank goodness we got to talk to Jerry and he took really good care of us. They have good food just ask for Jerry and avoid the girl with panda eyes. read more

Tried Odeum for brunch with family. We sat outside on a nice Spring afternoon. The Fried Chicken Benedict was delicious. We also had a breakfast pizza and gyro, accompanied with drinks. This experience loses stars because the service was so bad, we could only laugh at the ludicrousness that unfolded. I would hope/bet this was a one-time mishap. The flavor of the dish saved this review, kudos to the chef. read more

Odeum - [Morgan Hill] - Fried Chicken Benedict - Mediterranean Near Me - Morgan Hill, California

Odeum is a small gem tucked away in a corner of the granary located In Morgan Hill. The ambiance was chill, yet, still crack-in ( if you know what I mean). If you're between the age of 25 to 45 this would be your ish. Wine list was on hit. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu and it's ingredients. He also made some excellent recommendations. Most importantly the food was excellent. High quality ingredients, no GMO, grass-fed, organic, and fresh. I ordered the calamari and chicken club pita, both were excellent. I tried the chicken and waffles once, it was a little heavy for my preference, but still tasty. This is one of my new favorite restaurants in MH. I will keep coming back! read more

ODEUM used to be one of our favorite restaurants. Honestly, the last 3 times we have given it a chance. Within this year (2022) we've been very disappointed. The portions are smaller, more expensive, and the service has suffered. One of their best desserts, the butter cake it appears they slice it in half and give you half of it now, shameful , it's like the packaging of products you buy in the stores, they shrink them down to half the size, charge you more, and the quality suffered. The manager appears to be too busy chitchatting with the restaurant staff, when he should be professionally checking on his customers to ensure they are having a magnificent experience like that used to be before Covid. Other Morgan Hill restaurants in the area have managed to provide the same food portions size, with the same quality, some at higher price. But that's to be expected after suffering financially during Covid. However ODEUM has cut the portions, lowered the quality, increased the prices, and the service is not the same. The staff before Covid were professional, and created an elegant atmosphere. The new head staff seem disorganized, and busy socializing within themselves. We miss the Odeum before Covid. It should follow what other restaurants have done. read more

Don't think you are getting a Michelin star restaurant if you come to Odeum. The veal was dry and the tomato sauce bitter. We ordered the crack bread... had to send it back because it was burnt. read more

This restaurant is one in a million for Morgan hill. Amazing cocktails, great service and even better food! Love it

When you walk into Odeum, can you expect? Excellent Food and service. Menu is creative. Taste? Delicious! Duck Ragu with Pappardelle - Italian met French! Portion is very generous. Barely have room for dessert. Service is impeccable. Sat at Chris's table. Very knowledgeable about food and wining. Turned out he is a sommelier! Pleasant and intelligent conversation without feeling being interrupted. Just right! In short, Odeum has the Michelin package, not the price tag. read more

First off, the food is great! We also love that it's got a cute, quirky, non-standard feel because of the layout and locale. However, wow... the service was absolutely horrific this past Saturday afternoon, and the MANDATORY 20% TIP THEY ADD TO THE BILL made it sting oh so much worse. We arrived just as they opened at 5 PM. My wife, daughter and I got our drinks and appetizers fast enough (5 mins for drinks, 15 mins for appetizers?), but after waiting for nearly AN HOUR AND A HALF for our entrees (6:20 PM on my watch. Yes, really!), we got fed up enough to ask for the bill, and to make the meals "to-go". Ten minutes later (6:30 PM) we got the bill and the entrees (finally!!) and got the shock of the night -- a _mandatory_ 20% tip was added to the bill for gratuity. Granted, we usually tip MORE than 20%, but when the service was so bad that we had to take it TO-GO, the absolute knife-twist of having to pay $45 in tips (~$250 bill, $205, pre-tip) was too much to bear. I told our server that though we understood it likely wasn't his fault (understaffed kitchen, maybe?), waiting for 90 mins for an entree was shockingly bad... and he proceeded to NOT apologize, nor offer to take anything off the bill; instead he basically said "Yeah, I know, what can we do? *shrug*". I didn't mention the mandatory tip, but I was thinking it. Well, what WE can do is never eat there again. *shrug* read more

IF YOU WANT TO WAIT 2+ HOURS OR MORE FOR YOUR MEAL, THEN THIS IS YOUR PLACE! I am not one to write reviews often, but when something is exceptionably good or bad, then I feel compelled to share my experience. We have owned motels and restaurants over the years, so I try to be sympathetic to the daily challenges that restaurants face. We walked in on a Saturday at 6pm and sat at the bar (usually a location with more casual atmosphere and faster service). They were clearly overwhelmed and unprepared for their customer reservations. Without going into lengthy detail, the bartender was moving as fast as he could, but had not barback or help and it took close to 30-minutes just to get our drink. This was a precursor for the next couple of hours where we had to flag people down just to order something. Ultimately, after waiting a full 2 hours for our main course, we threw in the towel and paid our tab for a bottle of wine and appetizers. I think the most disappointing part of the entire experience was the lack of interest the manager (or owner ?) had in helping out the staff or addressing customers who were leaving for not being served after waiting 2 hours. The restaurant business is in a tough, cyclical industry. I hope they get a better pulse on things or they may be in trouble. read more

WTAF? This place is a legendary, one of a kind, diamond in the rough. Bar service and back service are amateur at best. The food and ambiance make up for any moronic, mouth breathing idiot who knows nothing about food or dining or the actual menu at the place they work. Go here if you enjoy food and like to eat. If you have a problem with their food you are likely low IQ (Sad!). read more

Ugh. Have eaten here a dozen or more times. Prior years ranged from decent to exceptionally good. Must have changed chefs. Food is terrible now. The scallops came undercooked. Raw inside and strong fishy old sitting on the counter all day flavor. Sent it back. They re-made it, but without even an apology for what could have gotten us all sick. Salad was drowned in dressing and Parmesan cheese, was there some lettuce in there? Something bitter too, not pleasant. Dessert was 2 kids-size scoops of ice cream and a piece of Safeway short cake on a plate, with one sliced strawberry, a blackberry (one) and a raspberry (one). Simple, unimaginative, and rudely over-priced. New server was trying but obviously very new and fumbled a lot. Writing this place off, permanently read more

Second time at this restaurant, Unfortunately we were seated next to where The food is placed to be served by the OWNER. I Watched him take samples off of customer plates Lick his fingers and do it three more times. Then my dinner which was very late so the waiter Brought me over a bowl of soup. Well I watched the Maskless owner, put two ladles in the bowl lick his Fingers from the extra soup dripping out of the bowl Walk over to the condiments area put some parsley On the soup and have the waiter bring it to me. The owner totally unapologetic could care less. This is standard operating procedure and the restaurant Should be cited by the health department. Do not eat at Odeum. read more

One of the neat things about this place is the fact that the owner/chef checks the plates as the meals come out of the kitchen before the wait staff takes the meal to the patrons. Tonight we sat near the kitchen and could watch the chef at work. Unfortunately it was disgusting to watch. On several occasions we watched him pick food from plates and taste. Not once did he wash his hands. One of our four meals was late, so as we waited we started watching the chef closer. As we watched him prepare a bowl of soup it appeared that he got some soup on his fingers and we watched him lick his fingers clean. Right after licking his fingers he picked up some cheese and put it on top of the bowl of soup. It was nasty And disgusting to see. Even nastier for us, the soup was handed to our waiter and the waiter brought it to our table for our out of town guest in an attempt to make up for the late meal. We told the waiter we could not take the food and explained why, admittedly in an upset tone. This will be the last trip for us. Many of friends attend the restaurant too, but my guess is that they too will stop attending once they hear of our evening. read more

My partner and I signed our Domestic Partnership this afternoon. Her and I were, obviously, over the moon, and decided to go to Odeum to celebrate. our reservation was set for 7:00PM. We arrived a few minutes late, but were seated at 7:15PM. We did not have orders taken until about 7:25 - which was fine, they were busy. However, at 7:40 the server came back and took our drink order... again. We didn't even have water yet. By 7:45, we had water. We ordered a $95 bottle of champagne off the menu, one drink, and 2 appetizers. We received a different bottle, and one of the two appetizers, and no drink. Then, we sat and waited. The table next to us left, and the next one was seated, and served. Still, we waited. At 8:25, we flagged down another waitress, and asked to get the check. Our check included the drink and expensive bottle of champagne (that we didn't get). Not gonna lie, I really could have used the drink. The manager waived the $7 bottle of sparkling water, which... I guess I'm grateful for? But honestly, leaving at 8:45pm... I would have rather spent the evening doing anything else with my partner. Instead, I'm comforting her as she cries, and microwaving a frozen meal for her. read more

My husband took me to Odeum for my birthday dinner recently. Since we had reservations, we got seated immediately. There's both indoor and outdoor seating and both are beautiful in its own way. We chose the indoor seating. After browsing through the menu, we ordered the Grilled Octopus for appetizers. My husband was apprehensive about the octopus, but he ended up loving it! And so did I. For entree, we decided to split Lamb Chops. The plate comes with two pieces of lamb chops placed on a bed of mashed potatoes. The dish was a bomb! The lamb chops were perfectly cooked and they were just delicious!! They gave us a dessert on the house for my birthday - Vanilla panna Cotta with a side of whipped cream. Oh Yummm! Just the perfect way to round off a lovely meal. Service is fantastic. Nice ambiance. Great food. Love it, love it, love it!!! read more

I really like this restaurant but I was very disappointed when I recently went on a Friday afternoon 4 days ago for lunch. My friend and I only had appetizers and water/soda. When the bill came I was shocked to see an automatic 20% service charge included. They do leave room for you to add an additional tip. This was confirmed by the hostess that they automatically charge for a tip now. I always tip generously and I expect an automatic service charge to be applied for a large group. This change makes me not want to return to this restaurant. read more

Was highly disappointed in my second visit to Odeum. I visited this time around with my Mother and Boyfriend for a Mothers Day Dinner and boy were we ready to leave after our hummus came to the table and my champagne glass spilled and broke all over me with glass cutting into my legs. Sure we sat outside and the wind was kicking up, but why have paper mats on a table where the staff is fully aware of the winds (as they stated to me it's a reoccurrence) when tableware can fall off the table? The waitress was apologetic and said she would remove the champagne from the bill and bring me another one - we were still charged, glass on the floor was left and an overall unimpressive ambiance. The waitress made it apparent she was a bit nervous after the glass and champagne spilling on me and cutting my legs with visible blood - she stopped coming by to serve us even after trying to waive her down for service. Last but not least, once the food came out, my order of sea bass was undercooked. At that point I decided I was over the lack of service and inconvenience - got up to ask the waitress for the check and told her the food was undercooked and to take off the bill. The champagne was still on the bill as well - no big deal, it was the principal. We won't be coming back. read more

I used to love Odeum's food. But unfortunately, there are a few things that have changed with Odeum that are not okay--first, they are doing a mandatory 20% service charge on top of all in-house dining bills. I understand that they want the staff to make more, but 20% mandatory? Second, they've raised the prices on their menu. It's gotten out of control. And third, which relates to the second--the food wasn't that good! I ordered the special--Alaskan Rock Cod with risotto and spinach. The dish itself had a sauce which was far too lemony (almost too tart), and the risotto was boring. The octopus appetizer was over-spiced with chili flakes. And the bone marrow appetizer was bland. We rated the bone marrow appetizer as a 4/10. I've always wanted Odeum to succeed, and I'm sure it will. But for perspective, we were a party of 3. We brought our own wine ($25 corking fee) and did not order additional drinks. We got 2 appetizers and 3 dinners, and the meal cost $276! This used to be a once a month restaurant for me--now it's more like once a year. read more

Odeum is amazing. You pay a little extra but it's worth it. Sal has a Michelin Star for a reason. Some of his dishes are completely original - Like his Chicken and Waffles. His take is like no other. It's an original flavor profile. His Scallops and Polipo are the same. Sometime I just just a few appetizers because they are so amazing. But always consider the specials. They will always blow back your taste buds. And then there are the Craft Cocktails. Chris at the bar does an amazing job creating fun and original drinks. Morgan Hill is lucky to have Odeum. read more

I hate that I even have to write this review, but I'm am DISAPPOINTED. The food was good (for the most part) but everything else was subpar. If I am going to pay top prices I also expect the experience and service to match. We were barely attended to and then forced a service charge of 20%... that is not right. On top of that we were offered an additional tip??! NO. The ambiance was extremely off too. Why is the wait staff putting in orders on an iPad in front of us and not interacting? I've only seen this at cheap chain restaurants. Where we sat all the wall art and lights were put up unevenly (we are at a Michelin star chef's restaurant!) & we were able to hear everything the staff said behind a thin curtain. Like I said before, if I am paying TOP DOLLAR I expect more than this. read more

Read a lot of positive reviews, service, etc.. but oh boy, was it a disaster. Went there for dinner today. Made reservations for 3. We went there and the hostess smiled and asked us if we want outside or inside, and we said we were fine with either. 1. So she took us outside and took us to a tiny table for 2 and said here you go, we can put a chair and make it for 3. We were like no, that does not work; we need a proper table 2. She then joined 2 tables, the second one being ~8 inches lower than the main table, and now it was like we have a main table and a kid's table, and asked if that would work. We are like no, we want a proper table, she said the restaurant was fully booked hence this, and I said I had a reservation for three. 3. She asked us if we can wait for 5-10 minutes, and we were fine with that. 5 mins later, she comes over and gives us a long table that would seat eight and set things up for us, it was awkward, but then we decided to go for it. Our waiter served bottled water, we ordered appetizers and were all set 4. She then comes over 15 mins later and said that a table outside is ready and we can move out if want to. We were like, we are ok now, we are settled in, and it is fine for us now. She then goes on to say that she needs the table we are on and we need to move; she will make sure that we will not move again... We are like, WTF?!@ we moved. It took us 1 hour to get the appetizer and another 45 mins for dinner. The whole table movement spoilt our night, dinner and hostess were terrible, and the food was cold. Never again! read more

Food was great, however for a party of six, they acted as though were were a party of 20, and were slow to take orders, bring drinks, and provide the check. We weren't even the largest group at the restaurant that evening. I ended up having to go to the hostess stand to give my credit card, as the server was nowhere to be found. There was a span of 20 minutes where we were waiting on 2 meals, and the rest of the table had theirs, which then grew cold. It was also incredibly stuffy and hot in there, supposedly the AC is broken. Service has for sure gone downhill in the last year. read more

Great food and service. Had a very nice special birthday party there and she was very pleased.

The first warning was the call I got around noon, asking me to confirm our reservation. I did, then got another call 10 minutes later asking the same thing. We arrived 1 minute late, then were promptly ignored while the couple that arrived after us were seated. When finally seated the hostess lazily left menus with us without a word or a glance. Things were looking up after ordering and fairly-quickly receiving our appetizer, a too-small dollop of ricotta with honey and almonds and very good strips of spiced pita bread. Then came the wait...45 minutes of suffering through a hot, cramped dining area, filled with smoke from an inadequate grill ventilation system, and music turned up too loud. Two of our 3 dishes arrived, and were judged adequate, but my wife's pizza was simply burnt. The Coke my wife ordered 45 minutes ago also finally arrived, and was very watered down. And at no point during this 45 minute wait did our waitress come over to ask if we needed anything or provide an update on our food. The Tre Colore salad was OK...nothing great (it looked nice though). I'm not a big fan of salad for dinner but was left with few choices since there were no vegetarian entrees. Not. A. Single. One. Unacceptable...not planning to return. read more

We celebrated our anniversary at Odeum and the food didn't disappoint. My husband and I both enjoy Mediterranean food and have relatively high expectations, especially after enjoying the food on our Italian trip. We started with the octopus appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. The octopus was grilled to perfection, slightly crunchy tentacles but not overly cooked and chewy. It had a delicious butter cheese sauce with white beans and bok choy. I enjoyed the lamb shank, which was cooked very well. It was so tender and not too "lamb tasting" but you can enjoy the flavors as well. He had the sea bass which was very good too. But for me, had a little too much teriyaki flavor and took away from the fish. But overall both were very good. The cimammom roll dessert was so moist and flavorful. It paired nice with there housemade espresso gelato. The atmosphere is romantic with indoor lights and small intimate tables. The serving staff are kind and didn't rush us. We highly recommend Odeum. But be prepared to spend $150-200 for two if you want drinks, an appetizer, two entrees and a dessert to share. But when it's for a special occasion who cares, it was a wonderful date night. read more

Odeum - [Morgan Hill] - Celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at Odeum and it was excellent - Mediterranean Near Me - Morgan Hill, California

Celebrated our anniversary here recently. It was difficult to find parking initially. Their personal lot is very very small. We ended up parking in a public lot close by. Beware if you plan on wearing stilettos, their lot is full of gravel! The restaurant is stowed away, but as you walk up you'll see lots of cute tables outdoors. It would have been perfect to dine outside if it was a little warmer. I can see why people like coming here for brunch. We were a little early for our dinner reservation, but there seemed to be plenty of room at 6:30pm. We were seating in a semi private dining area in the back. Our waiter was really nice and made it a point to ask if we were celebrating anything. We settled on the following items: POLIPO - Delicious octopus! Order this! CRAB & TOMATO BISQUE - Special soup of the night. Very tasty. CHICKEN & WAFFLE(S) - I think there was only one waffle, but it was kind of savory in that it had herbs in it which was a nice twist to this dish. The chicken was perfectly fried. PORK CHOP SALTIMBOCCA - 18 oz monster of a pork chop. I had leftovers for days! Really savory and filling. The chop went really well with the dijon potato puree. PORTUGUESE CUPCAKE - I really liked this. The cupcake was super fluffy and went well gelato and berries. GREEK YOGURT PANNA COTTA - Complementary dessert. Creamy and not too sweet! Overall, nice meal with excellent service. read more

3.5 stars. Tried here on a double date with my cousin. Good service and fanciful place with a nice start with complimentary croissant with delicious strawberry butter. That was a win! No bread but comes with packaged bread sticks on the table. Chicken and waffle- yum with the truffle oil. Waffle could be crunchier. Had 2 quarter pieces of a waffle with 2 chicken. Nicely plated. Lamb gyro- cooked just right packed with fries and arugula. Lamb was ground lamb with some pink to it. Arugula also came on the side and thought it could have been a diff type of salad since we had it inside the lamb already. The salad dressing was refreshing. Fries inside the lamb was just weird to me... would have preferred that on the side. Would consider coming back and trying different items on the menu read more

Decided to celebrate my birthday at Odeum bc I love their grilled octopus salad and general food selection, which is usually creative & generous. Got off to a shaky start, but it was quickly corrected & we had a lovely dinner! We ordered a beet salad, thinly shaved slices of red beets topped with pistachios and light dressing! It was delicious. ($18) and, of course, the octopus, grilled over cannellini beans & fennel. Yummmm! ($18) I loved it so much , I ordered a second one as my entre. My date ordered a beautiful, tender 12 oz pork chop covered in prosciutto & cheese over creamy mashed potatoes!OMG!! It was quite the presentation and delicious. We shared.($39) Oh! I cannot forget the bread. It was about six- eight thick slices of crispy, buttery oven baked goodness topped with grated parmesean cheese. Wow!! You must try it. ($6) We bought a nice bottle of Pinot & paid corkage ($25). The waitress brought over a complimentary birthday dessert, vanilla panna cotta with whipped cream & berries, a nice end of meal touch. We had a great dinner, shared the bread with the couple next to us and enjoyed the evening. So, if you feel like eating thoughtfully prepared, quality food, give Odeum a visit.
