After seeing this place on WGN and hearing about it from a friend, I couldn't wait to check it out. As others have mentioned, it's a cute spot, strategically located in front of the Metra station, and definitely decorated with Fall and Halloween in mind. The plethora of desserts looked amazing but I decided to go with an egg and cream cheese breakfast sandwich on panini bread with decaf iced pumpkin chai. The breakfast sandwich was beyond disappointing. The half sandwich was meagerly filled and I'm not sure if the "cream cheese" was vegan, but it had the taste and consistency of thin Miracle Whip - not to my liking. The side to my sandwich was watermelon. Although sweet and delicious, the tiny portion of shavings was also disappointing. As far as the drink goes, the iced tea was fine and brewed appropriately. In contrast to my experience, my friend had the ramen and loved it, so maybe it's all about what you order? I don't want to give up on this place since it's really a cute place and I love supporting local businesses. Service is extremely slow. There were 4 in my party and instead of bringing all 4 entrees at the same time, it was one at a time with intervals of like 15 min. I get that it's a little trendy place but not worth the money I paid. My bill was almost $100 with tip and we all had sandwiches with fries. My basil panini was awful. Ambiance is cozy, intimate, relaxing. The girls greet you with "hello, pumpkin" :-) It looks tiny but I actually counted at least 16 or 19. Not counting the seats outside or the ones by the window ledge. Every so often I need to detox from Starbucks, or from Dutch Bros, and I long for hometown small coffee shops. My wife mentioned October Cafe to me a few weeks ago, and suggested we stop in for a visit sometime. We were both in the mood for some coffee after making a Target run, so we decided to stop in for the first time. In short, we were both very happy with our visit. The decor is very cozy, and is themed so as to evoke the feeling of being in Fall all year 'round. There is a good amount of seating available indoors, along with some seating outside, as well. We were there around 4 PM on a Saturday afternoon, so it was not crowded, either. The staff was also quite friendly, welcoming, and helpful with any questions that we had. My wife had an iced hazelnut latte, while i went with an iced pistachio latte, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our drinks. The flavors were subtle rather than overwhelming, which was a good thing, as this allowed the taste of the coffee itself to be the real star of the show. While we didn't try any this time around, they also have available a selection of food and dessert options. Sandwiches, muffins, cookies, cupcakes, and candies, for example, some of which are vegan. They also have jars of pumpkin butter that i'm eagerly looking forward to giving a try. If you're in the neighborhood, definitely do yourself a favor and stop in for a drink and something to eat. I don't often find myself in the far northwest coroner of Chicago. However, I'm where I was about two weeks ago. I was in the western part of Jefferson park in the morning on a Saturday, and I wanted some coffee. I didn't want Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. I search for a coffee shop and I found October Cafe. I heard good things about it, so I decided to take the short drive to Norwood Park. I'm so glad that I did. It's not just a great independent coffee shop for Norwood Park, it's just a great independent coffee shop, period. I was greeted by the smiling cashier with a "hello pumpkin." I felt that was so fun and inviting. I ordered a Pot of Gold, a seasonal St. Patrick's Day drink, and a bagel with creamy cheese. The drink was a lot of fun and just the right amount of sweet. The bagel wasn't that good; it was just bread in the shape of a bagel, but at least it was filling. I loved the atmosphere, and I hung out for about an hour just playing on my phone. The atmosphere is hippy cafe meets pumpkin spice and everything you love about fall. I loved it so much that I took my wife back there the very next day. On my second visit, I ordered a hot chocolate. In sum, this is a must visit, especially if you are into all things fall and pumpkin, and worth the trek to Norwood Park. read more

I took my food and drink to go only because I didn't have time to stay in this adorable cozy little cafe. They had a delicious vegan panini option that I ordered which was out of this world. Fresh basil, pesto, tomatoes, and Follow Your Heart cheese! Definitely order this if you like those flavors. My drink I didn't photograph because it had a lid on it, but it was delicious too. I ordered an oatmilk based version of the Maple Forest, and I customized it with just one pump maple because I don't like super sweet drinks. I also asked for it to be extra hot and it came out perfect, I can't wait to go back and try other drinks, and hopefully a flight when I can stay to enjoy it there. We visited October Cafe on a very busy Saturday morning, but received our food and drinks quickly. It's easy to see why this cafe has gotten so popular! Definitely has a "neighborhood" feel so much of the food + coffee is sourced from local businesses around Chicago. The fall theme is super fun and they had a lot of upcoming events. Love getting to support a Latina and female owned local business and seeing it thrive. We tried the avocado toast, cookies from Defloured bakery, and the Cozy VP Chai Tea Latte (hot and iced). The Cozy VP Chai Latte has honeybush pumpkin chai, however there wasn't much of a pumpkin flavor and the chai was not a strong flavor either. First time visit was overall successful. Elements we loved, great vegan options, iced decaf options (often not an option at small coffee shops), reasonable prices especially if compared to a chain coffee establishment and much rather give to a small business owner. The other big highlight was the friendly and amazing staff! A few items that could use some adjustments; understanding the cutesy fall vibe, one "welcome pumpkin" would be enough, it was slightly overdone with the welcome, dropping of food to the table, clearing the table and even upon reordering for to go items. Lastly the food, although good options could use some editing, ordered the breakfast sandwich on panini bread and although it was filling you receive half a sandwich on "panini" bread but it was just toasted white bread and the sausage sitting awkwardly because the bread was large in comparison. Would be nice to know it was half, as an example my cousin ordered it in a bagel and received a full sandwich. Will definitely be back for the iced decaf caramel latte! Stopped by for a spooky breakfast before our charity walk in the neighborhood. Not only did we have to wait over 45 minutes for a simple panini and avocado toast, when it did finally arrive we were given a half assed "sorry about the wait". Meanwhile people who ordered after us received their food within minutes. $41 for two small coffees and some soggy "toasted" bread is insane. I'd assume with those prices they could afford a decent carpenter to fix the place and make it look worth the price. But no. This was actually my third time visiting. Once when they had first opened oh so long ago, even with how tiny the place was back then it had sustenance. It was a growing small business. Second time while they were remodeling and the back area wasn't whole yet. It's disappointing to see the state it's in now. Drywalls damn near falling off, baseboards more beat up than Tom & Terrys, and the lack of ventilation for such a small place truly made this the worst experience. You can just tell that the place is nailed together simply to be a store front to charge people and make money. Nothing about the place is unique or worth the visit. Oh and the cherry on the top.... I really liked the outdoor patio, it is on a quieter street which seems hard to find these days when it comes to cafes with outdoor seating. This new neighborhood coffee location is a real fun find! We wanted to try all the specialty coffee so we ordered the flight in both hot and cold. My personal preference was the hot flight. The coffee flight is super cute and comes with a pumpkin candy corn! The pumpkin theme throughout the shop makes it a perfect fall destination. They even call you pumpkins when you come in the shop. Music is a tad loud for a coffee shop, but overall a super fun time. read more
