Chicken Shawarma
Laureen O.

We happened upon this place as we were shopping at Lenny's for golf items. We peeked in and it looked like they were set up for a party, which they were but told us we could come in for dinner as we were early. The place is very pleasant inside. We had a very nice wait person who spoke Russian and another language. We had no idea what kind of restaurant this was but we are always game to try something new. Turns out it is Georgian/Armenian with a mix of a few other countries. We ordered hummus first while we perused the rest of the menu. Hummus was quite good. We then ordered Lahmajoun which is a Turkish Pizza/flatbread topped with ground beef. This was very tasty. We also ordered a Chicken Shawarma which was also very good. For dessert we got a cake that looked like a peach and filled with dulce de leche, very good. We would come back as the food was excellent, portions were quite large and the wait person was excellent. They were serving a fruity looking drink for the party in pitchers. I asked what that was and it was described to me and they gave us a glass to sample, Another tasty treat. It is called Kompot, a Ukrainian drink with apples and other fruits, not too sweet and very refreshing. Ask for this! BTW, we ordered appetizers and it was plenty of food!

Georgian wine, semi-sweet.

To emphasize all my previous points want to add that this restaurant is open for lunch!

Me and The Hubs visited Masha and the Bear about a month ago for lunch. It was a chilly, drizzly…read moreday and some comfort food sounded good. This restaurant is tiny - like five tables tiny. Fortunately when we arrived, only two of them were occupied (I did notice that quite a few people came in to pick up takeout orders while we were there, tho). Anyway after perusing the menu we decided on the following: - A cup of Solyanka (soup) - Beef, turkey, sausage, cabbage, olives, carrots, pickles - A cup of Borscht (soup) - red beets, grass fed beef, onions, carrots, potatoes, served with the spoon of sour cream and fresh herbs - Hinkali - 5 large Georgian style meat dumplings. Served with our special spicy tomato sauce - Cabbage Meat Roll (Golubtsi) - a cabbage roll dish consisting of cooked cabbage leaves wrapped around meat fillings seasoned with garlic, onion, and spices. Served with sour cream. - Honey Cake - Layered cake with light touch of honey and pastry cream between layers. OK. This was a TON of food and each dish (except the cake) came with sour cream. Both cups of soup were incredibly filling (glad we didn't order bowls, but a bowl would be a nice lunch by itself maybe with some bread). Everything was delicious and portions were large. We ended up bringing most of the dumplings home since we were so full (they reheated pretty well the next day). The Solyanka was a real surprise. I'd never had a soup with olives and pickles in it before. It was really yummy! Our server was nice and very polite, and the restaurant is very cute and clean. I would definitely eat here again.

The waitress was very friendly and told us that the restaurant has been operating for over eight years that's always a good sign. The food was excellent. We tried the vinaigrette salad, manty, and potato dumplings everything was very tasty, fresh, and clearly made with care. We also tried their homemade fruit compote, which was especially enjoyable. The service was fast, the atmosphere was pleasant, and we left with very positive impressions. We highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys European cuisine

Caspian Cafe is a family run restaurant. It's close to the highway (I-25) at the Garden of The Gods exit. I made a reservation for a Monday evening dinner and feel fortunate that I did. Again, surprised at how busy it was for a weekday. So, I do recommend reservations. My waitress was very friendly and personable. She told me that it was her second shift since starting employment there. I noticed some "rookie" mistakes. However, I feel that she did a great job. I was most impressed with how friendly she was. My waitress was also knowledgeable about entree options on the menu and they do have a variety to choose from! I was set on the Persian Chicken but changed my mind after the waitress told me that the Lamb Tangine with Apricots is delicious and that she has tried it before. So glad that I settled on the Lamb Tangine because it was delicious!! The portion size is plenty and will fill you up. Be careful not to fill up on bread with olive oil and vinegar for dipping. Also, I recommend an appetizer. I chose Baba Ganoush. It's served with small pieces of pita bread. Their Baba Ganoush isn't bad. I've had better. I prefer a creamier BG. Theirs is chunky. I passed on dessert. They have some nice dessert options. I probably would've chosen a dessert if I wasn't running somewhat behind for an event in downtown Springs. Overall, my experience was fantastic here. I will definitely return for more delicious Mediterranean food. I love how this place is intimate and family run. My final bill of sale was reasonable as well. Check out Caspian Cafe id you haven't been here before. Also, if you're passing through town or traveling to another destination, this isn't a bad option at all. If you have time to spare, get off on this exit, kick back and relax to enjoy some quality Mediterranean food. I hope you will be pleased with your experience here. Very much looking forward to my next visit!

Our waitress told us about the dinner specials which all sounded delicious. We ended up getting the Prime Rib for one of the dishes which was tender and perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were particularly delicious! We shared the spanakopita as an appetizer which was freshly made. They were slightly different that the traditional spanakopita (cut from a larger portion and with a sauce) but still good. I also ordered the gyro platter which seemed to be a popular choice with other tables too! While I'd love for more pita bread, everything was fresh and delicious! The tzatziki was particularly good. The restaurant has a romantic, dim-lit feel. It was a nice for a date night.

We were acknowledged immediately as we walked in & told we could sit anywhere we liked. We choose a table that had chairs on one side & a couch on the other. I sat on the couch, even though it was very comfortable it was too low to the table. The restaurant decor was simple with couches & beautiful jeweled chandeliers plus traditional music played in the background. Note, plenty of free parking was available as this place is located in a strip mall. I ordered the Beef Kabob Plate that came on a delicious bed of yellow rice. The beef had been marinated in a yummy marinade then perfectly grilled with two dipping sauces. Wow, this was super flavorful. In addition, there was a small salad with a wonderful spice dressing. On the side was warm Pita Bread & some of the best Hummus I've had in a long time. What a memorable meal...I'm looking forward to trying some of their other dishes.

But in the mood for Mediterranean, and deciding on takeout, we gave them a try. I was confused by the online ordering options, so I figured I would just go in, order at the counter, and wait for the food. I was quoted 15 mins. Only one group of four was seated, so I hoped it might be a little quicker. Ended up being closer to 25 mins before it was ready. First, the good. Portions are really large. The hummus and rice both continue to be fantastic. The pita that comes with the dish is fine, including the dipping sauces provided. Like I've done in the past, I had the meat combo. The Chicken kabob and kafta kabob are both really good. Great flavor and cooked perfectly. Also, counter service was friendly for the most part. On the flip side, my beef kabob was really tough again. Looking back at previous reviews, this seems to be a trend. I probably need to either just get the chicken or see if they'll let me sub another chicken for the beef. Speaking of beef, my wife usually gets and loves the beef shawarma. Not so much this time. It was really tough, and she said it tasted kind of burned too. Seems like this just shouldn't happen. Mental note for us...if possible, we should see if we can get them to hold the tomatoes from the salad, since neither of us like tomatoes.
