    1. Fried Eggplant
    Rika M.

It must have been close to 8 years ago the last time I utilized this tiny and yet mighty (in quality) business that quietly exists in the city of Englewood. I lived in one of the nearby apartment complexes where walking to get to it only took me 5+ minutes. And just yesterday, I was able to pay homage to this restaurant after so many years. It's not that I have to drive miles and miles to get to it from my current house in northeast DTC. With that said, my visit to appreciate this business was overdue. And this was no joke. At yesterday's visit, I realized that it was still the same Bosphorus that I used to know. I do remember that I got a solid 5-star service and quality of food at my last visit. And yesterday's visit was about the same in everything (of course in a good way.) I simply couldn't think of anything negative to say about everything I experienced. Two young male employees were having lunch when I stepped inside the restaurant. They immediately jumped out of their chairs to assist me. They let me take my time to choose what I wanted from the menu. I felt no coming from them. In many cases, instead of getting a huge combo plate, I pick a few items from the appetizer section when I do a takeout. I decided to follow this tradition of mine. Hence, I picked 1) Fried eggplant and 2) Hummus plate. Once I had placed my order and settled the tab, the young gents immediately started working on my food wasting no time. The food came out pretty quickly (well, I was the only customer at the visit.) Quick service: who doesn't like that, right?? As soon as I got to my car, I immediately opened the containers to check them out. As much as the Eggplant looked wonderfully made, I was shocked to find out how big the hummus plate was. The portion of hummus in the center could easily serve 5 people. Goodness gracious, they surely don't have the word "stingy" in their restaurant bible or dictionary for sure! And freshly cut cucumber slices as well as tomato slices decorated the hummus. Along came were some pita bread pieces. I couldn't stop saying "Oh my gosh" while I was taking photos of them. I carefully and slowly started eating the two dishes to truly savor all the ingredients included in the two dishes. The Eggplant pieces were so soft/tender and well cooked. The hummus was creamy and tasted so home-made. I could tell the absolute "attention to details" the workers put into the dishes as I savored the two. Despite all of this goodness, I came to appreciate their true humility that is reflected in everything they do. With the kind of reputation they continue to get from people that utilize them, they can expand their business and yet, they have continued the way they have always been for many years. So yes, humble and yet mighty is how I describe this restaurant.

Double date night in this hole in the wall hidden gem! We got the sultan plate four 4 and it was so massive that there was no possible way we could have finished, which means delicious leftovers for tomorrow! Everything was so delicious and the staff was very kind.

Amazing hidden gem in Denver! Be forewarned, this is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant with a tiny interior. However, the food was divine and more than made up for appearances. I came with two friends, and the 3 of us shared a sultan platter. It comes in three sizes: for 2, for 3, or for 4. It really lives up to its name - the plate was huge (see my picture for reference)! The beef and chicken were so juicy and flavorful, and the white sauce they had at the table was amazing. One of my friends said, "I want to drink this sauce!" Underneath the meat was rice, allowing the meat's flavor to soak into the rice. We left stuffed and with plenty of leftovers - we could've easily shared the "for 2" platter instead. Next time I'm in Denver, I will definitely be back here!

Okay you come to Bosphorus for down home comfort Turkish food. The interior is more like someone's comfy kitchen ( 10-12 seats and you can hear all the cooking going on...yes they cook everything here...unlike what some fool said). I ordered the Friday-Saturday special which is an amazing selection of meats: chicken, sirloin, lamb in various different preps. It comes with rice, salad, bread....and is an huge amount of well prepared food for $46. It could easily feed 3-4. I also ordered their Hummus which tastes homemade, delicious and authentic. Amazing service! Owner is a fantastic person who cares about quality and his customers. Highly recommend as the food quality and price is such a fantastic proposition that you should really try the place.

Love the description in the bottom left as to why Bosphorus is named what it is!

I can see why Bosphorus made it on the Yelp Denver top 50 list! Tasty food and great hospitality. Melih, the owner, even came and sat at my table briefly to see what brought me in and my thoughts of the food! I ordered the Gyro Sandwich with fries and it completely hit the spot! Everything felt so fresh and the gyro meat was so flavorful. It's definitely nothing fancy but I loved all the Turkish decor to really make me feel like I was in someone's home enjoying a fresh home cooked meal.

    14. Gyro Sandwich (chicken) and 2. Stuffed Grape Leaves

I've had Bosphorus on my radar for a while now, and after seeing it make Yelp's Top 50 Places to Eat in Denver, I couldn't wait any longer! I showed up for lunch at around 1PM on a weekday, perfectly timed as another guest was just leaving -- no waiting for a table! I could have spent hours gawking at the menu. After a recent trip to Greece, I've been longing for some tasty & authentic Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food, and everything looked incredible. Somewhat of a panic decision, I went with the chicken gyro sandwich and a stuffed grape leaf. When asked if I wanted rice, fries, or a salad with my sandwich, I asked for rice, and was met with "hmmmm, are you sure about that?". Melih (very easily!) convinced me to change to fries and WOW I am so glad I did...hands down some of the best fries I have ever had, perfectly crispy and seasoned so well! The gyro meat was phenomenal and packed with flavor. The stuffed grape leaf was also delish! Huge portions and incredibly fair pricing! Although the food was awesome, my 5-star experience here really was brought together by the friendliest staff/owners, a cozy/homey/authentic spot filled with awesome Turkish history on the walls, and the most welcoming atmosphere. I will absolutely be back to try the Iskender Kebab, Fried Eggplant, and Turkish Tea (and to get more fries!).

Cozy restaurant Tiny Good service Food was acceptable but not an authentic Turkish food mostly warmed in microwave. I ordered Meza appetizer, which Consist of one Grape leave, microscopic cheese, two pieces of Kalamata Olives, one spoon of Hummus , Lentil Soup . Chicken Kebab with rice wasn't what I was expecting from Turkish chef Price was $$$ $40 for this meal I hope the owner put more effort to make real Turkish food.. I don't mind paying $40 if the food was good but as you see I wish him the best

OMG! What a find. Only room for 4 tables so probably mostly takeout. First time so we tried the special. I think it was 5 or 6 kinds of meats and chicken. Absolutely scrupulous. The hummus was fantastic with a great fresh flavor. Oodles of rice that we had to take home. Can't wait to try other things on the menu.

    Best baklava in Denver

I've been craving Doner Kebab ever since I got back from Germany, and my partner found this place to see ifnit would curb the craving. While they dont have Doner Kebab, they do have delicious food. How many wonderful things can I say about our visit to Bosphorus? Let's start with the quality of service... This neighborhood spot is a cozy gem with limited seating but so worth the wait. When we arrived, the restaurant was full, but the host was super hospitable and encouraged us to wait for a table to open. As soon as one did, we were seated and waited on immediately. The host was incredibly kind to us, offering recommendations, and the food arrived swiftly. The kindness factor is always a huge for us because together we represent being BIPOC, queer, and trans, so we never know how we'll be received at an establishment. Wow, the food... the meat was prepared perfectly, the flavors were melded perfection, and the potions were super generous. We had so many leftovers for the next day. Then, to top off our meal, we finished with some Turkish coffee and baklava that we were told was the best in the city. Being the food critic I am, I raised an eyebrow. Really, the best baklava? We'll see about that. And then he promised if we didn't like it, it was on the house. Well, how could we resist? I hate to tell you, we liked the plate clean. He was right. I swear it's the best baklava I ever ate. The flaky pastry, the light sweetness of honey with the robust nuttiness... I wanted to take an entire box of baklava home with me. Throughout our visit, we were tended to, entertained by our host with great humor, and he even gave us the dessert on the house even though we (well, me actually) licked the plate clean. If you're looking for some delicious food, great hospitality, and a cozy atmosphere, then this place is a no-brainer. We'll definitely be back again!

While Denver isn't great for Middle Eastern food, you can find good restaurants serving cuisine from the region. This is not one of them.

First gripe - I got a chicken entree, cup of dessert (I think it's called knafeh), and a fruit drink, and my total was $33 - that's crazy. The entree was $17 which is fine, but then they nickel-and-dime you $2 for hummus, whereas I feel like it used to just be included?? Then excluding tax, that means the dessert+drink was around $12. That's too high - that's almost another entree. Second gripe, much smaller - I feel like they used to include a garlic sauce with your entrees (called toum?) but they didn't have any. All that aside, I still like this place. The food is good, portion is strong, dessert was delicious, and it came out quickly.

I had been hearing about Jerusalem for years. In Denver, it has that kind of local-legend status…read morewhere if you have lived here long enough, especially anywhere near DU, people talk about it like it is both a restaurant and a formative life experience. And yet in nearly twenty years of living here, I had never actually gone. Which is absurd, because it is maybe no more than ten minutes from my house. So a few weeks ago, I finally made the effort. First surprise: there is a parking lot. This alone deserves acknowledgment in this busy part of town. Second surprise: the parking lot appears to contain roughly 6.7 parking spaces. I got lucky and managed to squeeze into what felt like 1.3 of them. It is not so much parking as a close encounter. Then you notice the outdoor plastic tent seating setup, which I assume exists because inside there is room for approximately 13.4 people, which feels statistically consistent with the parking situation. The whole thing has a kind of orderly chaos to it. But from the second I walked in, the feeling was one of warmth. Really warm. Before I could even properly take in the giant glass cases full of baklava and other Middle Eastern sweets, I was greeted enthusiastically. The menu hangs above the cases, and the man taking orders, who I assume was the owner or a relative, had exactly the kind of energy that makes a place feel beloved. When I asked if he was ready to take my order, he smiled and said, "I'm always ready." It was funny, kind, and genuinely charming. I ordered baba ghanouj, hummus, fattoush, and a lamb shawarma sandwich to go. It was around 4:30 pm, which may have been a strategic masterstroke on my part because the place seemed a bit quiet. I actually got a seat while I waited, which felt like winning a small lottery. Another very friendly younger guy brought me my order out, and the service from start to finish was excellent. Truly. I left thinking, okay, I get why people love this place. Then I got home. I unpacked everything like I was settling in for a very specific kind of evening: random Netflix, adult beverage, no plans, full commitment to carbohydrates and emotional detachment. There I was, alone with my feast, ready for the Denver legend to reveal itself. And to their credit, they had included a whole bag of pita with the dips, which made me feel briefly rich. Then came the first uh-oh. The pita was dry and brittle. Not stale, exactly. Just structurally unsound. This was not pita with confidence. This was pita that had already given up on itself. It was simply not up to the task of being dragged through hummus and baba with gusto. The baba ghanouj was very smooth and only faintly smoky. Perfectly decent, but not my favorite take on it. I like baba with a little more personality, a little more drama, maybe a little more of that "yes, an eggplant absolutely died for this" energy. This one was polite. The hummus followed the same pattern. Smooth, fine, edible, but lacking the depth and garlic I wanted. Again, not bad. Just muted. It tasted like it was trying not to offend anyone, including people who do not especially like hummus. The one standout was the fattoush. Fresh, bright, and by far the best thing I ate. That was the dish that had some lift. It did not include the toasted pita I usually expect in fattoush, and I missed that crunch, but it still had the most life of anything in my order. Then I went for the lamb shawarma sandwich, and this is where things turned from mildly disappointing to physically illustrative. I picked it up, and the sandwich immediately started falling apart. Meat and sauce began leaking out like the whole structure had been assembled on hope and optimism. The lamb itself was fine, but overall it was bland. Not aggressively bad. Just not remotely worth the hype. And that is where I decided: I liked the people more than the food. Jerusalem has charm. The service was genuinely kind. The owner seemed lovely. It feels local in a real way, and I want places like this to thrive. I can absolutely imagine that for college kids, especially hungry ones near DU, this place hits exactly right. Big plates, convenient location, late-ish hours, comforting reputation, and probably some nostalgia mixed in. I like that. But sometimes the college kids are just wrong. Or maybe not wrong exactly. Maybe just young. Maybe this is less about quality and more about palate, timing, appetite, or being twenty-one and convinced that proximity to campus plus a full stomach equals greatness. That is a beautiful stage of life. I support it. But my middle-aged ass was at home with Netflix, evaluating bread integrity and garlic depth, and from that vantage point, Jerusalem just was not for me. So: three stars. Very kind service. Real neighborhood character. A warm and welcoming experience. But food-wise, not enough flavor, not enough texture, and not enough reason for me to head back anytime soon.

I personally am not a huge fan of this type of food, but I decided to order fries, and I have to say, the seasoning on them was absolutely delicious. I liked them so much that I even asked for extra, which is always a good sign. I was a little upset, though, because I had planned to get a grilled cheese and tomato soup. Unfortunately, this location didn't have it on the menu. Don't laugh at me, but I suggested this spot because the Phoenix location I've been to multiple times sells a really good grilled cheese and tomato soup, which is why I thought it would be perfect for a late-night meal after the club. It was a bit of a disappointment to find that the menu wasn't consistent between locations. Other than that discrepancy, everything else was great. The food we did have was tasty, the drinks were good, and the overall experience was enjoyable. The vibe is very much a college town feel, which makes sense since it's right near DU. It's casual, lively, and a fun place to grab a bite late at night, especially after an event or night out. Overall, I'd come back again, but next time I'll double-check the menu at this location first if I'm craving something specific like the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Other than that, solid service, tasty food, and a fun, college-town atmosphere.
