A little touristy, but full of charm! I frequently walk from the pier to the harbor and back, and there is so much to love about this place. If I'm heading out for dinner, I really don't come here much, it's more aimed at tourists and the quality of the food isn't spectacular for the price, check out my other reviews for my favorite local hot spots. There are areas to park, dock, and wash boats so this is a functional area as well at the tourist shops. I see so many people out with their boats on my weekend walks to the harbor. I'm assuming this is a great spot for the boating enthusiasts. Parking is of course a nightmare wrapped in a horror show, so show up early and stake your claim. I don't mind the trek so I park far away and walk to where I need to go. But is locals know the tricks. Enjoy your visit and the amazing views. read more

I also like this whole area, plenty of places to eat that serve during the Covid crisis, just takes longer and there is no indoor dining. Sun and a breeze during this heat wave, I just overheard a lady saying this area is her haven . I agree. The beach is clean, and accessible. But come early or count on paying $4. An hour to park. There is no access from the marina area to the big free parking lot, I think there is a back way in, but no cars can park from the shops area. Huge Event, while I wish there would have been more events for pirates, I will take their Love of America, Proud Display of The American Flag and Great Respect for Military and Embrace it above anything else. The area is super clean and well maintained. If I lived closer because it was calm and not super noisy and crowded like most OC Beaches. The Shuttle Service is top notch and gets you right to your spot. Park at The Train Station/Metrolink and a Shuttle will take you to Harbor Drop Off. read more

Being a child who grew up in North County, I would go up to the Oceanside Harbor a lot with my family. This is where my love and appreciation for the ocean began and I am not complaining. As a child, I'd sit on the sliver railings and look down into the water and see the shore crabs scurrying along the rocks and see how many more I could find and beat my sister in a crab counting contest! The buildings have stayed the same, but the businesses have come and gone. One of my favorite places was an old seafood joint where they would literally have the freshest catches in their store. Everything from crabs in huge tanks and I would jump up to try to look in the water and through the bubbles to see what I could see. I just loved it... everything down to the smell. If you head there now, you can look out and see paddle boarders, people kayaking in the harbor with their dogs, a small dock with people fishing, whale watching tours coming or going, and even a fishing boat docking being followed by a flock of pelicans or sea lions in the water. My time spent here in the Oceanside Harbor really shaped who I am today. I love the water and I love and will care for everything that goes into it. Single use plastics are not cool and nor are plastic bags. Try to save the world and in return, the world will do great things for us. read more

LOVE the beach here in Oceanside! It's super pretty! Sitting here having a bonfire with my friends and just enjoying each other and having a good time! My only complaint is the fire pit ...there was TONS of metal inside ..and I'm just not talking about nails ...Looks like some one put wood inside the pit that had tons of metal attached. It was pretty bad.. I'm not sure the solution to that ....maybe some one can check the pits every few days or so ..There isn't that many pits at the harbor so it wouldn't take up too much time to just make sure there isn't anything inside the pit that is dangerous to use! Just an encouragement to everyone ...Please clean out the pits after you use it,it's also not a trash can...there is a dumpster near by. Also check the pit before use..be careful read more

Oceanside Harbor - Fire pit - Boating Near Me - Oceanside, California

It is not about the destination it is all about the journey. I left home on a solo road trip to San Diego (09-18-2013). As I was driving south of the 5 freeway I spotted waves breaking over a rock jetty and knew I had to search this spot out in hopes that it can be surfed. I am not sure why but the next exit on the freeway was 5-7 miles further down the road so I had to backtrack a bit to find my destination but that is exactly what I did. After traveling for 10+ minutes I stumbled upon the Oceanside Harbor. I found this amazing little Harbor, Park and social community. I continued a little further down the road and drove until I could not go any further and that is exactly where I found a dirt path that lead out through bush to where I believe the Jetty I observed from the freeway was located. I followed the dirt path, found the jetty but it was on the other side of the fence separating public land from Camp Pendleton. Here I was by myself at the end of dirt path, near nothing and that is exactly where I found a unique plaque affixed to a rock on the water line (see attached picture). I walked back to my car and found I had parked right next to where someone had carved 'Taz' into the sidewalk. 'Taz' is something my friends and I used to call each other in South Africa; what are the odds? I see something from the freeway, exit, backtrack, park, hike, what back to my car, parked near no one and find I parked right next to this (again picture attached). I figured it was time to head back towards the freeway but wanted to explore some more. During my future exploration I found an apartment complex, a Hotel, a WWII memorial, clean public bathrooms, free parking, a restaurant and several other businesses. I once again stopped took my shoes off and reconnected with Mother Earth by walking through the grass while listening to the Ocean winds whip through the harbor. I spent quite a bit of time just relaxing and listening to the sounds of the Earth. This little harbor is amazing. You have an eclectic range of yachts, boats, ships and zodiacs. As I looked out into the harbor I was amazed at how quiet it was. I observed a man and his dog heading out to sea on a zodiac, the dog was perched on the front of the zodiac and had such a smile on its face. As I drove back towards the freeway I observed a large group of friends congregating / relaxing in lawn chairs near a WWII memorial. As I drove further I found boat slips, separate bathrooms for boat slip renters, public restrooms, boat slip office and a marine (water) related store. I found this little harbor to be amazing. If you are looking to find a little area where you want to relax, reconnect with Mother Earth and forget the sounds of the freeway this is the spot. I am so glad that I exited the freeway and decided to track down the jetty I observed from the freeway. I have driven by this exit an easy 1,000 times with never stopping but I now will never pass this spot again without stopping. Please do remember when you do come to visit places like this make sure whatever you bring you take home with you. Leave no trash and/or debris behind that could easily end up in the Ocean. Tourists and locals UNITE! This harbor is one of north county locals gems. Most locals grew up coming here to grab a firepit and have a beach bonfire with friends. Its also both kid/family friendly or party friendly. The pits are far enough apart to not be on top of each other. During the day they have plenty to do from the many restaraunts and shops, the beach itself or just taking a walk to see the boats and occasionally a seal lounging in the sun. Also they have a campsite which I would review on that topic separatly. All I know, is when I come down here I feel blessed to be a California girl! read more

Oceanside Harbor is by far my favorite harbor in San Diego County. Lots to do but all in close proximity. I typically am either sailing on a friend's boat or am riding a bike when I visit this harbor. If I'm on a boat it's a nice little cruise around the harbor. Sometimes the dolphins join along in the fun. The fellow boat owners always greet us as we pass them by. There is a lot of cute shops and restaurants my favorite being Lighthouse because I love their happy hour. And they serve artichokes which is the top 1 of my favorite vegetables. There is also a small dive bar located along with all the shops if that is your gig. The little shops really look like they belong in Maine. The harbor has your range from high end yacht types to the cute little dingy with a flag. It looks like there is no judgement here. All types welcomed. One of my favorite things about ths harbor was the free half hour cruise on a boat with a band on deck in the summer. Rumor has it that the restaurants involved in providing this fun little attraction had a dispute and no longer support it. Bummer because it was one of the most fun things to do while visiting the harbor. Let's hope they resolve things and get it back to crusing so all can experience and enjoy. read more

With so many options to chose from ( fishing, whale watching, kayak rentals) and the wide variety of dining options ( everything from fish and chips to gourmet seafood) you're bound to enjoy yourself. Be careful using the restrooms across from the small fishing pier . They are key card access and the groundskeepers or the police have the key card swipe . So if you use the restroom after hours when someone leaves the door open with a trash can , and me thinking it's open for public use at 5 am . Stupid me shuts the door to take a #2 . 5 min later after I wash up I turn the handle and nothing ! I had to call the OSPD to come unlock the door to get me out! I've used this bathroom 100 times and it has never not opened from the inside! Luckily I had my cell phone . I was there fishing alone . Not many people were there so I could have been stuck inside for hours . I know it sounds stupid but whew! Haha read more

Discovered this gem of a harbor on the way from LA to SD. Baby woke up from his nap so we had to stop somewhere for a break. I knew Oceanside was nice, I mean... just based on the name. (+) Restaurants.. Yelp it. I had the Harbor Fish & Chips thanks to Yelp and was not disappointed. (+) Plenty of parking. (+) Wildlife. Fun for kids to see the seagulls, other birds, chipmunk looking things (not squirrels) (+) Boats, rentals, gift shops, tourist stuff, not a whole lot but enough to get a good walk in and stretch the legs. Come and escape the city life with a visit to the Oceanside Harbor. You can entertain yourself by surfing, boating, fishing or by diving into food and drinks. You run the chance of fighting for a sea with seagulls but will occasionally find sea lions calling to you. In the summer you can keep yourself entertained all day. While boating and fishing are the main attractions for groups this time of year, I find myself at the harbor for food and surfing. There are a variety of places to eat fresh seafood at a decent price. I won't giveaway the specifics on the surf but It's usually bigger than the rest of North County. You'll find the harbor strapped for parking spots when the surf is up. The sand is a bit dirty, the water muddy and the crowd sometimes rude but this isn't Waikiki so don't get your thong in a twist. Recently the city added a nice new bridge and turned the parking lot into a pay/free situation. You can park on the street with meters, pay $2 and hour or $5 for a day ticket (until 8:00 p.m.), or use the free two-hour parking spots that are available. BE CAREFUL if you think you can stay longer than two hours in free parking, they chalk your tires. After a long day of boating, fishing or surfing, head over to Harbor Fish and Chips or Monterrey Bay Canners for a delicious meal. read more

If you enjoy the sunshine, people watching and maybe some creature watchen..... This is a great place to come! It's pretty peaceful and quiet.... you can walk to one end of the harbor and turn around and go the other way unless u jump on a seado or lil boat to get back to where u started! Great place to take the family if you want to rent a kayak , seado or go fishing. If you're thirsty you can swing by Tony's bar and have a nice cold beer (beer n wine only) plenty of places to grab a bite to eat. If it's sunny outside... sitting outside people watching and you may even spot some curious seals. There are a few lil shops to peak in as well! read more

A great place to stop off for a break from driving from L.A. and O.C. to San Diego, or vice versa. Renews the spirit in 20 minutes, and you are on your way. Conveniently located off the 5 Freeway just north of Highway 76. A much better place to stop that that generic restroom rest stop with the masses, a few miles north. Of course there are restrooms here, too. Be glad that most people just drive right on by. Minimal effort, maximum effect. Very cool. read more

Tony's is a great spot to grab a pint and a bite... the Oceanside Outrigger Canoe Club is constantly paddling around, its neat to watch..... the beach is a bit of a task, parking can be difficult and the place gets crowded quickly ... also, the city hosts a lot of events on this stretch of sand. read more

Ok it's small but sooooo cute. The best fish market ever and all the restaurants are water views. They have boats, sea doos, kayaks, paddle boards and more for rent which make it even more fun. I don't moor a boat their so I can't speak on the actually docks but they look beautiful:) For sure grab some fresh fish and a glass of wine at the wine bar around the corner. Well.. one thing about Oceanside Harbor is there is a gorgeous view from the pier during an afternoon sunset. A few pros and cons to Oceanside Harbor.. PROS: Nice place to walk around and get really good pictures, there's also a restaurant at the end of the pier, a few food stands, surfers waiting for their next wave, beach performers... Typically a touristy spot seemingly, lots of different shops, cafes and a few restaurants if you walk up the street a little. CONS(And SADLY I have a lot more of these than I do with the PROS): Driving towards the beach the first thing I see are what look like drug addicts..a lot of homeless, especially towards the beach area..because of course, who is as gullible as a tourist.. sorry lol.. Good luck trying to find parking towards the beach or anywhere around it.. They have a parking lot right in front of the beach, so if you're lucky enough you may find a spot and YES you have to pay for parking. There's a lot of people on the pier so get used to people bumping into you so they can snap the right picture. The restaurant at the end of pier.. TOURIST TRAP.. I mean hey if you want the experience of overpriced so-so food be my guest it's the view you're paying for. Summer I'm sure this place is a madhouse.. leaving this place, one thing about the parking lot..EXTRA tight squeeze so if you have a large vehicle good luck..lots of traffic upon leaving because people are mesmerized by the ocean, so watch out for the people not paying attention. Overall.. very nice place to take a few pictures walk and look at the ocean for a few. I suggest avoiding summer. I was just here 01/12/19 so it wasn't as bad. read more

The Oceanside harbor is a great place to relax. There are shops to fit everyone's tastes, benches to slide into and read a book, grassy areas to sit and stretch out while you watch the harbor traffic, and of course there is always the beach near by. Fire pits, showers, picnic tables, and restrooms are all near by making a trip to the beach almost hassle free. One of my favorite areas to visit at the harbor is the San Luis Rey River area which ends just shy of reaching the ocean. Yes, at one point the river flowed all the way to the sea and I think it is disappointing that its flow was changed for the sake of business but at lest the current area is protected and wildlife can still use it. On any given day, sea birds, shore birds, and fresh water fowl can be seen enjoying the area. Of the routine personalities that can be found at the harbor, my favorite to see is the bubble guy. He can be found near the harbor village in the evenings doing his art and creating giant soap bubbles for the kids. The only concern that I have for this area is the parking. There is a large free parking lot just to the east of the harbor village, but all other parking is pay only and limited. Make sure that you get there early to claim a stop as all of the parking fills up quickly. read more

Arrived around 6 PM Sunday and place was packed, only parking was in the municipal pay parking area. The parking machine would not accept our debit cards (tried 2 different ones) so had to pay cash, which, since the machine only accepts exact change, ended up costing $10 for the $8 2hour parking fee! BIG RIP OFF! Then to top it off, we got a ticket because the parking enforcement officer could not read the receipt through the windshield. $58 fine! We are not coming back anytime soon, that is for sure. Lots of people from the beach and marina milling around without masks. Don't go if you are at high risk for COVID 19. The restaurants all required masks but since there were waiting lines at all of the restaurants, you end up being exposed to the crowd while waiting to eat. Social distancing was a joke with all the people milling around. I will not be surprised to read that there is an outbreak traced to the Oceanside Harbor in a week or so. Other than some signage, there was no attempt to enforce face mask rules or social distancing. Dinner was good at Dominic's once we finally ran the COVID gauntlet. read more

Love the harbor! The marina is really a place where you have to visit once in a while to be reminded of why we live in Oceanside (or San Diego in general). On a sunny day, it is absolutely stunning. Yachts cruising the harbor. Kids playing on the grass. And with the bevy of restaurants in the area, you actually don't mind the tourists too much. The beach can get busy but it's so large and so long, you will have no problems finding a place to get your feet dirty ;) read more

Oceanside Harbor - Oceanside Harbor - Boating Near Me - Oceanside, California

This review covers OCEANSIDE LAUNCH RAMP in Oceanside Harbor. The worst designed launch ramp in the world, with the Mayor's office refusing to respond to complaints and questions. The two way road to the launch ramp is shared by beach goers and campers. Summertime traffic jams is unbearable. No boat preparation area results in the truck and trailer blocking the one road shared by beach goers, and then boats must linger on the ramp while they get ready to launch. Unbelievably poor planning and design. The paddle board / outrigger club shares the launch ramp, with the club commonly taking over part of the ramp getting their outriggers, etc., ready, making it very difficult for boats to maneuver on the ramp. The docks are very short and at low tide, it's very tough for longer boats to dock. And only one boat per dock adds to the traffic jams. Truck and trailer parking is an absolute disaster. It's hard to imagine what the city of Oceanside was thinking when they created this disaster. Parking is on both sides of the busy road shared with beach goers. The truck/trailer driver must back out of a parking space and doing so with a trailer is misery. You have to back out blindly with traffic moving both directions behind you. Once the driver navigates the mess and successfully gets his truck and trailer out into the roadway, to get back to the launch ramp he must then make a u-turn in the roadway between the other parked trucks and trailers, trying to dodge in and out of the beach goer traffic, all while there is not enough room for most truck and trailers to make the u-turn! It requires the driver to make a multiple point turn with the truck and trailer completely blocking traffic in both directions. Insane. There is a boat wash island, but it's shared with an RV dump station. Once RV's pull up to dump their waste, they are usually in place for quite a while which means no boat washing. Get this, directly in front of the boat wash/RV dump station is a passenger drop off and pick up area! If you pull in to the inside lane to wash your boat you will get blocked by cars, usually parents waiting for kids, and you will be stuck there. During surf camps and lifeguard camps, you can't use the boat wash/RV dump station unless you just plan to wait until all the cars leave. This is the absolute worst designed launch ramp in America. I have made numerous attempts to discuss this issue with Mayor Esther Sanchez over the last two years and I get kissed off every single time. Mayor Sanchez has never returned my inquiries. read more

I never knew that life existed north of the 76, but Oceanside Harbor happens to be an often overlooked destination. The first time I was introduced to this place, I went to Monterey Bay Canners for Happy Hour. As I was driving north, I almost turned around because I thought there was nothing but Camp Pendelton past the 76. When I finally arrived at my destination, I was surprised I hadn't discovered it sooner! There are a few restaurants here lined along the water: Jolly Roger, Joe's Crab Shack, Rockin' Baja Cantina, and Monterey Bay Canners. There are also a couple of little eateries including a fish and chips place that's always poppin'. There are a couple of souvenir shops and I believe you can go on fishing and boat tours out of the harbor. There is even a little old lighthouse to complete this old fishing village. You can also go to the beach here and I see lots of surfers out on the water. I am here at least twice a week to paddle from the harbor out into the open water. There are a ton of seals in the harbor and you can also see dolphins out in the open water. Whether you come here for the water or for the happy hour beverages, it's such a beautiful place to come to after a long day at work. I spend a couple of hours out on the water and watch the sun go down. It's a little out of the way from my house, but it's the perfect place to find peace and destress. Oceanside Harbor - Bonfire - Boating Near Me - Oceanside, California

The Oceanside Harbor is actually quite big, and offers all kinds of amenities. They have a number or restaurants from cheap eats (Harbor Fish and Chips, Joe's Crab Shack) to a little pricier spots (Lighthouse Oyster, Monterrey Bay Canners). There is Helgren's Sportfishing (1/2 day, 3/4 day and overnight fishing excursions), a small pier that people fish from, hundreds of boats in their slips, an RV parking lot and a long sandy beach. You can even rent jet skis and kayaks from a shop in the middle of the harbor. They also have their own Harbor Police force separate from the city police, so don't try anything or you just might get caught. Just writing this is making me sit back and think about how much this place offers. There is an array of parking choices, but it all depends on where you are parking. Side of the road is free, there is some parking meters and parking in the lots is $8/day, and goes on up if you plan on staying overnight or longer. They do have a parking attendant writing citations, so make sure you are good to go before you walk away from your car. I like to go fishing, and the jetty rocks is one of my spots out here at the western side of the harbor. You can't fish everywhere, so make sure you know your spots. Not a bad way to spend any day of the week. read more

Somewhat undiscovered & one of our favorite places to hang out. We have been going to Oceanside Harbor for 11 years & finally moved to Oceanside a month ago. Now we spend even more time at the harbor. Features Joe's Crab Shack, Jolly Roger, Rockin' Baja Lobster, D'Vino's cafe & wine bar that serves gelato & other wonderful desserts attached to an authentic Italian Restaurant called Dominic's, a local fave called Beachbreak Cafe (you have to try the Mango Pecan pancakes!), Nana & Pop Pop's Ice Cream Shoppe featuring tons of retro candy & soda pop in glass bottles, Lighthouse Oyster Bar which has GREAT happy hour specials & you can watch the sunset above the harbor; Harbor Fish & Chips. Sport fishing & whale watching tours leave from here. A short walk up the path & you are on the beach. Don't miss this beautiful piece of the coast hidden in our backyard. The harbor itself is great. I bring my kayak down here almost every day. There is always something new to see wether its what the resident seals are doing, watching the guys fishing, the people going to and fro on their boats. The tourists in rental kayaks or paddle boards are always entertaining to watch or the people that have no clue how to launch a boat. The people on their boats on the docks are typically nice and we recently met the Harbor Master without even knowing it and he was a great guy! Everyone waves and says hi when we paddle by. The restaurants scattered about the harbor leave a little to be desired in several cases. Highlights of the culinary offerings are Beach Break at the Harbor and Harbor Fish and Chips. Lowlights are the Jolly Roger and Rockin' Baja Lobster. Both Horrible!!! I've been to Joe's and it was just ok.. I wouldn't avoid it but it also wouldn't be my idea to go. There's a fuel dock and a bait barge for your fishing needs, a free boat launch and parking for vehicles with boat trailers. There's also a sewer dump for your boat or RV for a fee and a place to wash the salt off your boat! If in your travels in the Oceanside harbor you see two fat guys in green kayaks wave and say hi! read more

Be selective on where u decide to eat down here. They are all a lil spendy but not all of them have the best food for what u are paying. Parking lot for the Harbor is a across the street from Joes Crab Shack. Thing i dont like about the parking is u are forced to walk through a lil tunnel where the cars drive through at the same time. I am usually carrying my child so there is always that parent caution that some driver might not be fully sober. Wish the had a separate walk way from parking lot for safety. Lots of different charter boats a sight seeing tours u can board at the Harbor. Also are able to rent water crafts like seadoos and sea kayaks. Then the beach in the harbor has some pretty good surf depending on the swells. There is north jetti and south jetti which are two good breaks read more

A snobby Florida-beaches kinda girl fell in love with Harbor Beach. After skirting seaweed, bugs and flies in Laguna how refreshing it was to come to a wide, clean beach. Here's a few clues for new out of town visitors. There is free parking just as you come into the shops at the Harbor - free, yes, but if you have a lot of stuff to haul - you'll be walking a long way. If you drive closer to the beach, there are coin meters and 2 lots that enable you to pay with credit card for as long as you want to stay. Note - these fill up early so on a weekend - you might want to be there before 11am. Park in either lot near the shops and there is a bathroom right at the end of the marina. Surprisingly, it's clean! I used it several times during my 3 day visit! If you walk straight up from the parking lot towards the ocean you will see the upper part of the beach - that's the cleanest part - if you walk on the lower part, you'll contend with seaweed and rocks - parking is free on the beaches closer to the pier, but it is not as nice. I walked all the way to the pier, but am glad I chose to stay on beach closer to the harbor. The families tend to congregate in the center where the lifeguards are. If you want more of a relaxing, uncrowded spot - go to the left where the rocks are - generally the lifeguards don't want people swimming by the rocks so not as many people sit there. What a find!
