A long overdue update.... Yes, parking can be tight and the beach is always packed with tourists during the summer...but there's a reason... It's a gorgeous beach with amenities. Bathrooms, little shops within walking distance, and sometimes you'll find performers on the grassy areas. This past weekend, all the rocky cliffs and bushes were full of squirrels. Frazee Beach is my favorite spot to go to. I always enjoyyy myself...people watching, basking in the sun, R&R, beauuutiful sunset walks, dipping in the Pacific Ocean when the temp is warmer than usual and doing other fun beachy stuff. This time, I saw a Praise Team from The Station Church on the beach. What an awesome way to kick-off Easter weekend!!! If you're in the mood to eat or shop, you have a lot of options downtown...plenty of things to do and see. I'm sooo lucky to be nearby! Robert C. Frazee State Beach is a beautiful beach offering plenty of sand, nice waves, volleyball nets, one very basic bathroom and long walks. It is typically quieter and less crowded than Tamarack beach which is a little over half a mile away. The bathroom is austere and dank, avoid if possible! You need to walk to town for food and drink. Beach chairs and umbrella rentals are available in town, not directly on the beach. Access is available via a steep ramp on Carlsbad Boulevard or stairs at multiple spots. If you're driving, there is a very small (and busy) parking lot off Ocean Street that leads to a small grassy park with benches and a great ocean view overlooking the ramp. The beach is similar to Tamarack Beach just to the south, but with fewer people and a more relaxed vibe. One of the highlights is the beachfront promenade that runs along the seawall below the bluff between the two beaches. It's ideal for a walk or run, and you can loop back along the sidewalk on Carlsbad Boulevard for a nice change of scenery and great views. Leashed dogs are allowed; bicycles are not. Though the beach is less crowded than Tamarack, it still draws plenty of people on warm days, especially on the weekend. Important Tip: There is major sidewalk construction between Frazee and Tamarack as of this writing, and some of the beach access stairs are closed. read more

This is also called Carlsbad State Beach! There is a sign that says both names on it. There is a small, free parking lot on Orange St, and then street parking on the main road. This is a very nice beach, and fairly lit at night. Always lots of people walking around the area at night, so safer than other beaches. read more

Great public beach with limited free parking & public outdoor showers, clean restrooms and a nice sandy beach area. Local fishermen catch baby leopard sharks from the shore as others look for that perfect set to surf. Others just Chillaxing along the shoreline waiting for the morning fog to burn off and bring some warmth to the chilly ocean beach. Park in the Village and walk over. We usually eat lunch or grab beers in the village then walk over to get some nice scenery walking on the sea wall. No dogs on the sea wall allowed. The sidewalk is pretty busy at times but the beach never seems to be too packed. The waves are strong. Plenty of space to set up some safe distancing from other people. read more

Had a really nice/relaxing time at Frazee beach today. There were lots of people on the beach. But not too crowded. It was nice & sunny out. And the water was perfect.... Just a thought: The character Sandy from SpongeBob Squarepants always seemed a bit out of place to me... until today. I saw one fellow beach goer sitting in a lawnchair feeding cheesy puffs to about 20 beach squirrels. Which was kind of cool. I just never knew squirrels lived on some beaches. As far as family pets go there aren't any animals allowed on the beach unfortunately. So we had to leave our pup in the car with the AC running for the few hours that we were on the beach. They have Porta potty's located in various places. Which is convenient if you had too much lemonade to drink on a hot Cali day. Unfortunately the state of the bathrooms were atrocious. But I can still appreciate the sentiment. They just might need to be cleaned a bit more often. read more

Beautiful beach. Not too much parking around the area, but I was able to find a spot. Beautiful sights all around, and plenty of beach space. Wish they had more showers, but it's alright. Frazee Beach is one of those places where nature's beauty is so majestic that it's almost not worth trying to describe and better experienced in person than through a computer screen. It's very clean, in fact it's almost squeaky clean which is great. Signs are posted to not only let you know what you can and can't bring with you, but to also let you know where the trash receptacles are. I've been to some beaches where the amount of trash and human neglect is semi disappointing so it's really nice to hang out in a place where the community takes pride in making sure it's always in tip top shape. This is a laid back place. I mainly like plopping down on a towel and watching the tide roll in, but you do have options. You can walk along the shore if you like, but if you're looking for more of a work out there's a sidewalk trail where you can go jogging or ride your bike. There are also some volleyball nets hung up if you want to try and get a game together and plenty of space if you and a friend or two want to bring a frisbee or toss a football around. This is Mother Nature at her best. Whether you're a local or just visiting, if you're into rest and relaxation I can't recommend this beach enough. read more

I would have to say this beach is best known for its view overlooking the Pacific Ocean versus a beach to layout at. With that said, if your looking for a place to go for a good run or just to be alone for a walk, be sure to come to this beach. There is a bike path near the sand or also a sidewalk along the street which offers beautiful view especially if it's a clear day, like today. You don't see that many homeless people, compared to other ranches so that's nice. Also, this beach has such a clean, crisp ocean smell- not the normal smelly air. I love how this beach is also very clean, with tons of trash cans available for tourists to use. read more

This is a great beach. From the scenery to the beach itself, this place pretty much takes you to your happy place every time you visit. Honestly, there is a beautiful walking path and a nice grassy area up by the street which provides you with a fantastic view of the water and an excellent ability to people watch... Once you go down to the beach and/or the boardwalk, you know your in paradise. There is literally no trash, the beaches are spotless, the people are friendly and the water is beautiful. I would recommend parking your car and going to relax at this beach if you're in the area. I love going to the beach but I wasn't wearing flip flops and couldn't run in the water but I did enjoy this beach. We came on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't crowded. We found street parking a few blocks away. We had to go down three flights of stairs just to get to the beach. There were plenty of kids playing in the sand and water. My daughter likes to get her feet wet. I wish I could've joined her but I watched her run around near the edge where the water came up. Luckily no high tides. The waves were crashing as the wind picked up. There are also plenty of places to eat near the beach. Great place to check out restaurants. This beach was more family friendly as opposed to Pacific Beach. I definitely enjoyed my time here. So peaceful and calm here. It's not as chaotic or crazy with a bunch of crazy people. The only negative would probably be the parking. I guess that will be an issue with any beach you go to. read more

For this trip we stayed at Grand Pacific Palisades, and Frazee Beach was a short drive from there. We were able to find parking but got there early for a spot. Spots are definitely space-saving (tight!). The beach was clean and there were bathrooms and showers for rinsing off close by. The lifeguards were on-point with making sure people were in the water safely. Our three big kids (5 1/2 - 7 1/2) enjoyed boogie boarding, and the littlest was mostly enamored with playing in the sand. Nice beach to bring some shade and a picnic for a fun day! Downtown Carlsbad is walkable. We recommend Handel's Ice Cream for a cool treat! read more

Frazee beach always has relatively good waves for a shorebreak and if you're there this time of year it's generally not too crowded October November. Best time to boogie board is usually when the tide is changing either going out or coming in but with a shore break you usually have some Good Sets right here. Plus you can have Knock Out Pizza delivered to you for lunch right on the beach. read more

This is a great place to go if the tide is halfway or lower. Any higher and there isn't a lot of beach. There seems to be street parking every time I've been there, and there's a short set of good stairs down to the beach. Also it's a nice walk either on the beach or on the top of the bluff down to S. Carlsbad State Beach and back. The beach itself is clean and not very crowded. If it's hot, watch out for stingrays, more so at low tide and/or low surf. read more

This is a great spot just south of all the little shops in Carlsbad. I can't say if this is the case in summer, but there was plenty of street parking when I went. You may have to wait a minute or two when parking or leaving, since there are lots of cyclists and runners going by, but it was no problem finding a spot. There's also a small parking lot closer to the water if you have a lot of stuff to carry. The beach has a couple of volleyball nets at the south end if that's your thing. There were a fair amount of surfers in the water when I was there, and I'm guessing that's what the place is used for the most. I only went jogging here, so I can't really say too much about it other than it makes for great scenery during a run. read more

I have walked this beach in every season and it is one of my favorites despite the smoke stacks from the power plant visible at one end. Still, there are few places that have a walkway at street level, and another paved walkway at beach level, and then there is the long sandy beach itself. The beach is packed in the summer with swimmers and sun bathers, but other seasons are pretty laid back. My last visit, we walked a couple of miles towards the Oceanside Pier, then cut up one of the many beach accesses and wandered through cute Carlsbad and perused the shops. The fish place that overlooks Frazee beach is a real find too. Surf Motel is a fun retro inexpensive hotel across the street from the beach. The Armenian restaurant next door is awesome too. This location makes for a fun beach getaway. read more

Great beach right on the coast and minutes away from Carlsbad Camp grounds. During the summer this place has limited parking but worth hanging out. Robert C. Frazee Beach is at Pine Ave. and Carlsbad Blvd. You take EXIT I-5 at Carlsbad Village Dr., head West. Turn LEFT (South) on Ocean St. (which will turn into Carlsbad Blvd.). Pass Oak St. and there will be a parking lot. Park in the lot or anywhere along Ocean St.. Go to the Beach or go to Carlsbad Village, which has trendy boutique shops, restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, art galleries, antique shops, salons, boutique hotels and lots more...just don't park over the allotted time, and it will be CARlsBAAD fo yo mama. The beach is in town and it is convenient to amble to. I just don't like those over-sized black tubings that run along the beach. Are those septic hoses to the ocean? read more

Probably the cleanest beach (other than the one on Camp Pendleton base) I've ever been to in San Diego county. And yes it's a good place for boogie boarding and surfing...also good for wading. There are bathrooms closest to the ramps from the street to the beach and they're clean and well lit. Not a lot of shells in the sand to slice my feet in or impending doom of stingrays or jelly fish here. The sand is more coarse than at Coronado I have to say but still soft enough. No dogs allowed so we couldn't bring our pup :( which is unfortunate. Parking is available in a lot (not sure if you have to pay) and ample in residential area (just a block or two away). With that said it can get crazy busy and hard to find parking on the weekends. I used the map through Yelp and couldn't find the beach (led us to some residential area 0.5 miles away) so had to search via Google maps where it was more accurate. Please fix? Oh and should you play Pokemon Go, there are plenty of Pokestops around within walking distance and many of them have lures. There are plenty of Omanyte, Horsea, Magikarp, and fighting Pokemon here. At night you can find Coffing and Arbok. Ok I'll stop with my nerd talk. read more

This is the public access beach for those hanging out in Carlsbad Village. There are public facilities, benches, and a few dog-friendly grassy areas along the elevated walkway above the dunes. The beach itself is not dog-friendly. Parking is very difficult, so best to park somewhere else in the Village and walk down to the beach. There aren't dramatic cliff scenes here like in Encinitas, Solana Beach, or Torrey Pines; but there is a lot more to do in Carlsbad Village than those other three. read more

This beach gets 4 stars just for scenery. It can get crowded in summer but you can usually find parking across the street. There are food places nearby if you get hungry. It's a nice place to walk too because there is a sidewalk along the beach and higher up. If it's too crowded right near the access points you can spread out further north. There are restrooms but they are usually cleaner just south at Tamarack. They do beach yoga here, too. read more

Very nice beach. Clean and a fun walk along Carlsbad Blvd; plenty of restaurants, shops, bars, etc. The tide gets really high sometimes, so there isn't a lot of sand space to share but it's fairly decent. Took my family and I about 25 minutes to finally get parking, but it might have been due to it being 4th of July weekend. We'll definitely be back again! :) read more

One of the best sunset view spots in San Diego county. On any sunset evening come down and be part of the mix of young and old - families, couples, surfers, jugglers, bikers, joggers, skaters, music and more. The beach itself has volleyball courts and nice body surfing with some great board surfers when the waves break right (fall is a good bet).
