I was raised in Southern California for 45 years and moved to Mesa Arizona 10 years ago. It's always nice to come home and spend some time at the beach and honestly it was an emotional trip home but worth every moment. We stayed here in Oceanside this time and we were within walking distance to the beach it was a beautiful trip this beach is rocky so I do recommend putting water shoes on if you have sensitive feet or small children. Love it here About a 15 minute walk from my house, my husband and love coming here with our little fur baby. Reading on the rocks, looking for heart shaped treasures, and basking in the sunshine. Great spot to take your dogs and kids during lower tides. Will be coming back for a relaxing evening and the parking is close. Everyone is very quiet and respectful of each other's space which is super nice. Love watching the dog owners playing fetch and the parents playing with their children. This park and beach has so much potential, however it needs to be cleaned up by the city. Looks a bit neglected. Great location with great play area and bathroom facilities. The transients seem to mind their own business, but would be great if the city would assist them in moving along. read more

Buccaneer Beach - Quick stop, nice 10 mins to relax and grab a selfie - Beaches Near Me - Oceanside, California

This has become our go to beach, since there's almost always parking and there are bathrooms. My son likes to come here and throw rocks; I fly my drone and swim when the water is right. The ocean and the city are fighting a battle over where the rocks should go, so the terrain is always changing, at times it's hard to get down to the water. I like it best at low tide when you can walk out into gentle waves; at high tide the surf crashes against the beach and it's hard to even get in (and can be dangerous). The nearby cafe is nice too, always crowded when they are open weekend mornings. read more

Nice little beach that is great for families with young children. It does get pretty crowded but not too bad during the week. It's embedded in a residential area with Bucanneer Park right across the street. The park has a children's playground and grassy area. There is also a bathroom, a cafe (closes early afternoon), small free parking lot (you can also park on the street). The beach tends to get smaller when the tide coming rolling in. People start scooting back to avoid getting their picnic areas wet. Overall, good beach if you have young kids! read more

I really like this beach location. It's in Oceanside and actually has available parking and a bathroom! I had never been here before and decided ti check it out, and I'm glad I did. Parking was free too! The downside is that there are a lot of rocks so walking by the water was a little more difficult, but I did it. The ocean from this point of view is not worth the dense crowds and traffic that you have to get through to get there, hang out there, and get out of to leave. The roads sucks and the park is nothing special. Especially don't go here on weekends. Buddy Todd park is so much larger and better parking. read more

I want to 5 star this beach for having been a childhood staple of summer, but that's just not fair! Most important thing about this spot: Awesome family beach...assuming there is any beach for you to occupy! The ocean has all but swallowed up the coastline where beach goers normally plant their umbrellas and fan out their towels. There's no walking this beach in it's current state, that's for sure, unless you enjoy the sea jumping at your knees. Come on, Oceanside, with your endless development going on downtown, invest in your beaches! Push that shoreline out! Otherwise, this beach is as I said, good place to bring the family, nestled between beach rentals, it feels as secluded as a public beach is going to get. Just across the street is a small cafe that actually has good eats. The convenience of having food, beverage, and bathrooms so close by is a major plus for individuals clad with kiddos. read more

Our favorite beach until recently; it used to be well maintained, sand from the sidewalk all the way to the water; now there is nowhere comfortable to put a blanket or a towel, not to mention walk! I fell twice and got scrapes just because I couldn't avoid sharp rocks; they are hidden everywhere among the pebbles. On top of that, Buccaneer Cafe doesn't have such regular hours anymore so we've driven all the way there to find them closed. Sometimes we bring a picnic because they haven't answered the phone (we have since given up calling) and then they're open so you never know. They tell us the hours but the hours change often. I wish there were lifeguards all year except when it's cold and rainy, it's California after all. It was not like this before Covid so maybe it will take people a while to get things back to normal - the way it was. read more

My Beach! Well we actually hang one access north but who's counting right? You just never know who you'll see ....surfer running down the hill or the rock lady, random people walking their dogs, to people that come all the way from out east to enjoy the ocean. Under the railroad bridge there are some neat murals you've got to check out. The beach is a neat design with a park on one side and the beach on the other. Very cool for those peeps with littles who want to do both. There are showers and bathroom and the cafe. The cafe seems to have random hours during the off season so bring food with you just in case. There is a parking lot that is no charge but it's small and fills up fast. There are some street parking as well but not that much. That's really the downside. All in all nice place to take in some Oceanside rays! read more

This park is what you make of it. Lots of room for plenty of groups. One group took every table on our day here, so we brought some and set up under a pop up, near a big tree. It was great. Bathrooms aren't clean, or stocked, duh, bring TP. We brought enough to share. There are showers here as well. If you have a laid back group, and the other people are on the same vibe, it can be a great time. There are some questionables that pass through. They broke out into a fight but it was over quick. Then they came over to our food table, but most of our group was Marines, sooooo...... I'd say to keep an eye on your stuff, bring supplies or get there early to save a space for sure, and have a good time. And when it gets dusky, get gone. Not a place I'd want to be at night time. read more

Buccaneer Beach is one of the few remaining hidden gems on the Pacific Ocean. This beach consistently has great Waves and generally a very good break. It is truly a Surfers Delight bodyboarders also do very well here. This beach is located at the foot of Morse and the coast. Locals are always coming in and out to catch waves catch some sun and move on and get to work. The little cafe which is open from 8 till noon is called the buccaneer Cafe nice place to grab a sandwich or breakfast get there before noon or you will be shut out. I don't like to put too many kudos on this beach as I like to keep it as my secret Hideaway when I want to enjoy a day in the waves. Oceanside has done a marvelous job keeping up the beach and rejuvenating this area there is no doubt Oceanside is on a comeback. I have great memories while growing up in Encinitas myself and a couple of friends heading north to Oceanside and spending the day at Buccaneer Beach it was always a great spot to spend the day and we were almost certain never to get caught skipping school and going to Oceanside. Some of the best sunsets you will ever see on the West Coast can be seen right there at Buccaneer Beach nothing like watching the Sun go down while you're in the water riding waves you have to experience it to understand the Feeling. If you get a chance sneak over to Buccaneer Beach but always make sure you leave it cleaner, safer, and better than the way you found it let's protect our oceans and our beaches they are our wonderful assets. read more

This beach is tucked away so you only end up there by accident or if you know about it. It's smaller than Pillbox in Solana Beach, so I can see it getting crowded on a beautiful day. We went today, which was overcast and a bit chilly, so we didn't have an issue finding a place on the sand. There is a free parking lot that services both Buccaneer Beach and Buccaneer Park across the street. Unfortunately, my experience here was bad. There was a lot of human excrement in the parking lot by the concession stand (barf), so much trash (bottles, shoes and plastic pieces) including a syringe in the outlet that flows under the overpass (Dangerous! We discarded it appropriately), and then a homeless person decided to feed the sea gulls, which descended on us and we ended up getting pooped on...while eating. I'm sure it could be a great place if it were cleaned up. But i left feeling like this place was gross. read more

Beautiful beach in Oceanside. This was my first time here and I thought the midday shoreline was picturesque. It isn't far from downtown so you have plenty of dining and shopping options nearby. Plenty of neighborhood parking so you can enjoy the beach sights. I'm not a "beach person" but I would definitely come back for more. read more

Love this beach!!! It's very laid back and not so crazy (especially when kids are back in school). Anything north of this gets a little hectic- (north Oceanside). The atmosphere is laid back and it's nice for a quiet beach day. You don't see too many kids running around, teenage/ 20 something year old girls showing off their butts for attention, bros getting wasted... Nah Just a few small groups and couples. In fact it was just my husband and I plus the baby. Perfect. There's a snack bar across the street from the beach as well as a huge park. Great place for the kids. All parking is street parking unless you plan on parking at the park- you won't find a spot unless you come early or on an off day. read more

This is one of my favorite spots to take my nieces and nephews for a beach day. It's a more smaller area than say by the pier but it's more family oriented here. (Note: if you want to just layout and relax this isn't where to go because of kids running around.) There's a small parking lot across the street at the park but it's usually crowded. If you're lucky enough to get a spot, awesome! Otherwise park on the street-there's no meters here either so that's always a pro. I do love free! Make sure to lock your doors though, you never know. There's a little breakfast/lunch spot across the street where the bathrooms/showers are located also. They sometimes have a coffee cart too-their iced coffee is amazing! Been going to this beach since I was a kid. It is a great beach and has a lot to offer. There is a good section of sand to relax on. They have a decent sized parking lot across the street from the beach. Parking is free. There is also street parking, but watch for street sweeper signs. They have a cafe here with food and beverages that is really good. There are dirty bathrooms and showers. There is a large park across the street with kid area, benches, basketball court, and BBQ pits. There is a very large grass area too. Do not let your kids play in the water that leads into this beach. A lot of the time this water is polluted and the beach is shut down when it flows into the ocean. There is a sewer plant next to this beach and occasionally smells depending on the wind direction. Surf is also really good here and doesn't get as crowded as the Pier or Harbor. Ocean floor is all sand without rocks. There is a large rock in the water at the beach 1/2 mile north of here. You will see it on low tide. They have lifeguards during peak season. read more

Can you say.....GORGEOUS! We arrived here on a mini, no agenda road trip. My boyfriend had been here once before and knew it was a great location. He was right! We ate our cheap drive-thru food in the car in the parking lot (yes!) and then walked along the beach. 80 degree weather in January? Yes, please! The birds are fearless so like any beach, watch your head! You might get pooped on. Could you imagine living here? Or better yet, finding a beach in southern California where you DON'T have to pay to park. Amazing! I cannot wait to come back. read more

I used to live across the street. I miss the Bucc so much! but, I have been driving the 1.5 miles that I now live away and parking here to jog to the pier and back every week, and once summer hits we will be there more as well. My BF usually likes to beach fish from here, I lay out and relax. The parking lot can be extremely busy in the summer, and all the street parking around as well. Great that there's a snack shack there, but from experience they take a long time to make the food. But it was pretty good and convenient, and a nice way to spend a weekend morning with a breakfast burrito and a coffee at the beach. read more

This is my second favorite beach in Oceanside. The beach sits Directly across the street from buccaneer park which has a playground and a free parking lot. There are also shower facilities/ bathrooms and a snack shack. The beach itself is kinda small but that's ok. It has an inlet that feeds into the duck pond wash out at the park . I recommend only coming to this beach at low tide. You can see the pier and the power plant from the Sand and might even catch a glimpse of a Dolphin if your lucky. If you come on a weekend, get here early as the locals tend to fill up the main swath of sand that makes up this great sunnin spot. My daughter recently went to the park at this beach, Buccaneer Beach. After her work out she found tiny bugs on her that turned out to be RAT MITES: had to evacuate her bedroom, wash all her clothes, then all bags of clothes went into bags, drove to Escondido in the heat and left all bags in there. Truck got to be 140 degrees: KILLED THE BUGS. Tons of work and many exterminators opinions later, we are bug free. This park needs to be attended to and eradicated of the mites. DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS PLAY ON THE GRASS. 3 DAYS after frying the bugs, we found more and now have to hire an exterminator: $465 for the house, but EVERYTHING HAS TO BE OUT OF THE CLOSETS AND UNDER BEDS..What a mess. read more
