Place was decent. Lots of stairs and somewhat rocky. If you like seclusion then this place is great. It's all what a person is into. Beach was very clean. Cute areas to take photos

A nice beach, but MANY stairs to climb. While I do not mind it -- would not recommend this beach to elderly people or folks with knee/foot injuries/issues.

Well Date of Visit : October 18, 2020 and the first thing is you have to park on the side street !! In front of people's houses but what I also noticed was that it was not to packed here !! But also the social distancing was good here it seems like most people here were social distancing but not to many wore mask . But Of course I had mines !! So there were signs posted that says masks required !! But as for how cool this beach is it is an beautiful beach with waves crashing against the sands and a good beach for a walk !! Also I noticed the stairs going down to the beach i!! There are a quite a few steps you have to take to get down to the beach and it can be a good workout as you go back up the steps !! But the views here are still beautiful and plenty of spaces for you to just lay out and get a tan of just relax or hangout with friends or family !! There are cool rocks in the sand also !! It's an good beach for all and another beautiful beach here in Encinitas California !! Overall Satisfaction: Fun Factor: 4 out of 5 Stars !! Lots of open spaces here and not to packed !! Good for walks and enjoy a tan !! Cleanliness: 3 out of 5 Stars !! Lots of sand on the Stairs and Sidewalks could use some TLC !! Parking: 2 Stars out of 5 because you have to park in front of people's houses on the side street !! Overall Grade : 4 out of 5 Stars and it is an great Beach and I say give it a look and enjoy a nice walk here !! I sure can see myself coming back and enjoying again !!

We stumbled upon this place accidentally and so glad we did! We ate lunch near moonlight beach and decided to take a walk and ended up here. Not super fun having to carry the stroller down the steps but glad the beach was flat and hard enough to push the stroller.

Best place to be without many people, we usually walk all around this area from moonlight beach to beacons beach, beautiful walk and we always come to stone steps. Lots of steps to exercise No facilities in this beach

So first thing is if you're out of shape the stairs will kill you. You have to use the stairs to get to the beach but once you're down there its pretty calm because not a lot of people come here which is nice. There are some great views if you're at the top of the stairs. Parking is pretty much not existing but there are a couple of spots at the top near the stairs. This is a nice spot to come chill and enjoy the day, the weather and a nice drink on the beach.

Best hidden gem in Encinitas. Once you make it down all the stairs it is miles of sand and surfers and some local residents!! Highly recommend checking this beach out. Very chill spot. And great for my morning runs.

Nice little beach. Not the widest and got a bit crowded but it did the trick and was an easy walk from our lodging.

No parking and way too many stairs to go down for a tiny beach. Would not recommend - hit moonlight instead!

"Out of water, I am nothing..." - Duke Kahanamoku…read more Duke's quote also explains why, at any given time, there are so many people in the awesome line-up at Pipes Beach. Whether you surf, run, bike, or just want a chillaxin stroll or picnic along the sand, this place ROCKS and was one of the first places I began surfing regularly since moving to N. County from UTC almost a decade ago. Before moving, I asked a few of my bros where to surf up there and they were all like, "Pipes, Pipes, Pipes..." and I was all like "Bong?" j/k The bluff above the beach sports a paved trail along Hwy 101 where you can run or walk from Encinitas to Cardiff and back. There's also a bike lane too! One funny thing about weekend warrior surfers is that many don't want to walk very far to catch a wave. With Pipes all you have to do is park on the spaces to the west side of 101 or along the dirt road to the east of it (make sure you don't block the white lines marking the bike lanes and BE CAREFUL opening you car doors!!!). The beach is about a hundred feet down the steep paved main entry path or you can access it via the wooden steps leading from the San Elijo campgrounds. If you like a reef break, head south along the beach towards Cardiff while north you'll find solid beach and combo breaks. There's tons of fun-in-the-sun stuff to do on the beach but be careful about leaving your unattended picnic baskets out, otherwise the squirrels and seagulls will go to town! I once had a squirrel chew through my entire backpack looking for the bag of peanuts I left inside! The only restrooms to be had are also on top of the hill and they keep the showers very well maintained. When the surf cooks the line-up here gets packed but you can almost always find a pocket somewhere to catch a wave. Just don't turn all aggro on your fellow surfers since no one owns the ocean, okay? Just think about what Duke would do!!!

It sits right on the ocean bluff with two sides, bluff-side (oceanfront) and streetside. Obviously bluff-side is preferred, but staying on the streetside is still a treat. A few things I love about this camping experience: - They allow all forms of camping. Tent, RV, van, etc. - The site has clean bathrooms and warm showers. Just be sure to purchase tokens at the front for the shower. - Dog friendly! You can bring your pet along but they must be on leash and aren't allowed on the beach. - Carlsbad has the most captivating sunsets, and if you're lucky, you'll even see a few dolphins. If parking off-site (like we did since we were just there for the evening), be sure to walk back to the main entrance to exit if later at night as the side entrances are locked at sunset. The top area was a bit of a hazard, as they had a few sinkhole issues. From recent visit I see they have improved the area and it looks really nice, and much safer. It's not crowded because the parking lot is quite small and situated in a residential area. It has a better vibe than the very popular Moonlight Beach (about a mile away). There isn't much sand during high tide but when the tide is low, it's perfect for sun bathing, boogie boarding, surfing, and splashing around. There was quite a bit of kelp the days we went but it didn't really bother us since we stayed relatively shallow being with our kids. There are a series of sandy switchbacks to the beach, so it is a little bit of a walk with a nice reward (going up is another story) but doable with small children. The beach was sandy with some rocks, relatively flat, didn't spot much seashells. Overall, I'd return again. Parking is a bit of a challenge though.
