Great little park located by Buena Vista Lagoon and downtown Carlsbad. There's tables and a scenic view. A great place to picnic.

The middle level is for kids 5-12. The lower area has a skating zone and basketball court. The little kids area have an interesting two person swing. The middle level has a cool looking slide that is recently taped off. The fake grass hill was fun to slide down on card board. There are covered tables for eating in the middle and upper section. There is limited street parking and no restroom.

I love that this is a neighborhood park!…read more Pros- good size grassy area, lots of shade, my 2 year old actually had a ton of fun at the skate park on her scooter even with older kids bouncing around her, the kids were so mindful of each other it was really great to see! Cons- street only parking, no bathrooms, equipment was all over the place, the hill that folks slide down on is very steep! and goes right into a large jungle gym, the zip line was challenging to get on and off and pretty intense for ages 5-12 imo, but kids were loving it! My daughter enjoyed this park a lot! It was very busy for the long time period we were there with her friend. I do feel like this park is probably for ages 4+ as the equipment leaned more toward jungle gyms, one tire swing, two (never enough swings) interesting looking adult joined baby swings, a couple spinners, one huge scary looking slide that was under repair, a huge zip line and two concrete slides. We came with a friend and tried the swings, the concrete slides, a little climbing on the jungle gym, we did slide down the hill with the girls and sent them down with one adult at the bottom to catch them and it was a little scary! We also tried the zip line with the girls on our laps but needed to assist each other to get on and off. Would love to see more swings up top around the grassy area and maybe moving the jungle gym at the bottom back and actually creating a large slide on the part where folks ride their cardboard down to prevent injuries

I will say, however, that this place is so big that you can very easily lose track of your kids. There were a few times on our last visit where I was scanning the playground for a minute or two trying to find one of my kids after looking after another one for a bit. But don't worry. There really is only one in and out so you don't have to worry about kids wandering off if you are around that bottleneck point. This is a great attraction that I hope the park never gets rid of. It offers kids a space to run around & just goof off and be kids while also blowing off steam. The only point of improvement I can think of if maybe offer some more (shaded) seating for parents. On hot days that would be greatly appreciated.

He remembered it very well from our past visits. It is a second story playground and it is big enough for adults to shadow your littles if needed. On this day it looked as though an employee was monitoring at the top. I'm not sure if it was because it was near closing time or they are there for the safety of the little ones. There is a short wall that you could sit on to watch your kids from afar, This grand playground is great for the kids to burn some energy that's for sure! The kids have fun running place to place it makes me want to join them. If you haven't visit this playground it is a must. P.S. Grab some Apple Fries beforehand from the stand adjacent to the playground. Great snacking as you watch the play.

Thank you, Leo Carrillo Ranch, for the perfect venue and setting for my daughter Shannon's wedding…read moreon Sunday, November 17th. She and her finacé Seth were wed in front of the well-known pepper tree on the terrace, followed by their reception on the lawn/patio area below. There's really not much I can add that hasn't already been said in the glowing reviews here - the beauty of Leo Carrillo Ranch speaks for itself. I do, however, want to specifically thank our amazing wedding coordinator, Jessica. She has a sparkling personality, coupled with a relaxed demeanor that had a calming effect on the wedding party. We knew from the start that we were in good hands, and everything would run smoothly for Shannon & Seth's special day. And that it did. Jessica guided the groom, bridesmaids, and best man in as the ceremony began, always with a smile on her face. Smiling at my daughter Shannon and me, she cued us in for our walk down the aisle, and we were off. At the conclusion of the ceremony, she began getting the reception up 'n running. This young woman worked hard throughout the entire event, cheerily answering any questions our guests would ask. I can say without reservation that every guest who interacted with Jessica enjoyed their time that much more because of her aplomb and engaging personality. Another standout was Daniel, our bartender. One of the happiest guys I've ever met, he kept everyone's thirst satisfied with his efficient service behind the bar. He loved the string quintet we'd hired to play for the ceremony and during cocktail hour, and clearly loved music in general - he was movin' 'n groovin' to the DJ's dance music once it started up. Though I didn't get the names of all the staff, everyone working the wedding and reception was clearly happy to be there, again making our guests feel welcome. Once again, thank you, Leo Carrillo Ranch!

Closer to the lake you can enter in from the neighborhood and do a loop around the lake. The epic and challenging bit is hiking the dormant volcano itself. You can go one of three or a hidden fourth way up. The face is the most challenging and requires good balance. Both east and west sides require a little bit less, but it's a good strenuous hike that will get the blood pumping. My wife with Arthritis has done it and found it challenging. Our youth group does it a couple times a year and often will divide up based on the challenge they are looking for. It's great for an afternoon hike and when you've done it... plan a sunset hike. It's awesome. The tree cover near oak riparian entrance is really nice. The stream has cute little crawdads. That hidden entrance is at the bottom of cannon road where people will park at the church and enter the trail there. It makes for a longer walk, but there's also more trails. There's another under the power lines like a power line trail that starts paved then goes into the dirt trails. Note there are more mountain bikers and rarely you may see a OneWheel.
