I was a bit skeptical of this hike at first, since there's just a playground by the parking lot...and if I hadn't seen some people coming from around the corner which verified where the entrance was, I probably would've turned around. I'm really glad I didn't, because this was such a nice hike. There were a few spots were I wasn't sure which path to go, but I eventually figured it out. The hike is pretty easy, and has some great views...but just be mindful as you are in nature for critters and animals.

Awesome Park with super easy access to hiking trails to a nearby lake. Tons of wildflowers and wildlife. Overall easy hiking- lots of shade. Playground is large and clean. Lots of nice grass for the kids to plan on! Total gem

Accessibility: there is one accessible/handicap parking spot and a ramp to get onto the sidewalk. The rest of the parking is also limited as it small. There are benches (cement) at the park but they are in the grass. The park does have lights that come on automatically at night (came on at 4:39 PM on 12-12-2021). They also have the cement building restrooms. Experience: Cute little park tucked away and hidden. You can sit and enjoy, play on the playground, have a picnic or go for a hike/stroll on the trails that go through wooded areas.

The park is not huge but there is a playground and room for picnics, relaxing, and kids to run and enjoy themselves. The parking lot is not very big and can fill up very quickly. I think some people walk over from the surrounding neighborhoods to enjoy what the park has to offer. Behind the park are some trails that go to various places but 1 links up with Lake Calvera and the system of trails in that area that lead all the way to Carlsbad and the coast. When you are on the trail heading west you will come across a nice boardwalk area to walk on with some signage about the plants and animals in the area. The trail is narrow in some spots but manageable and there are usually people walking or riding bikes, but it is usually not overly crowded.

Great playground for my two year old and more advanced (and taller) structure for my four year old. Nice big trees which cover the grass for shade while they play. About 6 picnic table spread throughout. Indoor restrooms at a park...cleanliness is as to be expected.

Love this park ! I go to it with my kids weekly . We hike , ride bikes , play on playground , kick the soceer ball around ,and look for tadpoles. Usually clean . Lots of dogs and people in trails and everyone very friendly . Lots of beginner and intermediate trails!

Good biking on the trails behind the park.

The camp spots are all quite close to each other with not much privacy, but that wasn't a problem for me. If you plan on pitching a tent, I really hope you have mats (like we did) because the ground is (as you can see) plain dry ground. The park itself seems really great for biking and just walking around. They have long and short trails with lots of nature to look at. The lakes themselves are not too big, but I did see people fishing. There are many benches throughout the trails. There were also many trees that gave me many options for putting my eno up! Amenities: - 50¢ for 4 min showers - the bathroom is only for campers and it was SO clean. The shower was really warm and i actually felt clean after using it lol

That's the Western half that is more like the park. The Eastern half has walking trails that are more like a nature preserve. Some reviewers commented about how the trails are unkempt, and that's mostly true on the Eastern side and the Nature Trail. It wasn't too bothersome, as most of the trails were wide enough. The annoying part, though, is that there's a lot of dry, dead weeds/plants that carpet the trails with little splinters, which inevitably get into my shoes and jab me. Other than that, it's an easy, flat-ish 4 miles of walking. Lots of birds by the lake. Parking is paid in the lot, but there's also free parking along the street.

I could just see my kids getting bored...and then saying..."Are we going home? I'm bored!". Well, Rancho Del Oro solved that problem...how?! Let me tell you! They have a nice area cornered off for kids! No really, it's true! It's right by the tennis courts. So, parents, take note...get there early, and set up right before the ground slopes downward. Kids can play and be within sight at all times. A group of hula hoop dancers brought out tons of hula hoops after their performance for the kids to play with. There were gymnastic mats too. I really couldn't believe how content my kids were. Two opening acts, and the the main act came out. The Mar Dels were the big performers tonight. I've wanted to see them forever...and they didn't disappoint. Tons of cover songs from the 1950-1970's, and a nice sized danced floor right infront of the stage. People were thoroughly enjoying their Friday night....and was this girl! My kids played while my friend and I ate pizza, brownies, and drank beer. Family friendly, dog friendly, great venue...I'll be back!

I had picnics took walks both days. I stayed to watch the sunset on Saturday And opted for a different location to view the sunset on Sunday. This is a great park for people watching. I saw people walking , walking their dog, jogging, flying kites, reading under a tree, scrolling social media, picnicing, Bbqing, playing basketball, playing on swings and play structutes, working on their vehicles, organizing thier vans, riding bicycles of every description laying or sitting in the sun or shade and taking pictures and selfies, and one old veteran playing his guitar- that was me. I was hopping some friendly person would stop by so I could ask them to take a picture, but that didn't happen. This beautiful park sits on a hilltop and offers a panoramic view of the neighborhood, and a somewhat different sunset experience over your typical ocean view. The park has paved walking paths, basket ball courts, a volleyball court, lawns suitable for any number of sports a clean restroom and a fairy large parking area, I highly recommend this park. It was a highlights of my Spontaneous weekend roadtrip.
