What a great little hidden park! I found out about this place after being invited to a child's birthday party. The parking a small but there is street parking available. The park is spacious. There is room to ride your bike of scooter around the park. It's not overly spacious, you can scan the park easily. They have play structures for little tykes and the older kids. I love that they also have swings made for little ones to safely sit in, but also have swings for the older kiddo. There are grass areas to play and have picnics. There are sitting areas and picnic tables. The restrooms are centralized. I didn't have the chance to visit the restrooms. There are signs posted along the wooden fenced areas to beware of rattlesnakes in the area. I would definitely return with the grandkids. They seemed to like the park too. read more

Great little playground for kids. Really appreciate that there is only one main exit to the parking lot which makes it easier to keep the little safe. There is also a trail up to the dog park. Shade structures are available and plenty of green space for frisbee or soccer etc. No sand or woodchips...swings for babies and older kids. Safe and well maintained. Due to location this spot can get windy or colder than other areas, so always good to bring jackets depending on time of year and time of day. read more

This was a really nice playground! Well thought out, clean bathrooms with soap and quality hand dryers. There is a big playground for bigger kids and a smaller playground for toddlers so it was perfect for both ages. I loved the foam instead of sand or bark. The foam makes a lot less of a mess with clothes and shoes. There are also really nice shades on the playgrounds to keep kiddos and parents cool. The whole area is well thought out. There are plenty of areas to picnic and a few bbq areas for people who want to use them. It was a random stop to come here as I was nearby, but I'll definitely come again and let my little one stretch his legs. read more

The park itself is wonderful. The local patrons we encountered however are ignorant and impolite. While I am exhausted as any other parent trying to entertain my children after a year of this global pandemic... I understand the desperation to take children out to the playground before they shut it all down again. With today's U. S. numbers hitting an all time high at 200k daily, I believe that a simple gesture of wearing your mask in public, especially in a closely shared space is a common (or so I thought) courtesy. We came here and no one.... and I mean NO. ONE. (Adults.. Elementary and young children) was wearing their mask. A couple of parents had it on their neck, but not covering nose/mouth.. They made no effort to wear with others in close presence. I'm baffled by the ignorance, lack of community care, the audacity... ESPECIALLY IF YOUR CHILD IS COUGHING WITHOUT COVERING HIS MOUTH AT TEN YEARS OF AGE. This child was old enough to know better. He thought it was funny and then ran to his caretaker to share that his thrill for coughing on young children to which she just laughed too. We promptly left after he kept tormenting my children since they were trying to stay away from him as the only kids wearing their masks at less than half his age. He kept taunting both me and my children that kids don't get the virus.. so no big deal to cough without covering. Let's just say i had to ensure my big girl britches were securely cemented on to remove ourselves from the situation before I made the evening news. It being a neighborhood park and the small parking lot being mostly empty, it seems reflective of the neighborhood's approach. Folks in this area do not take the global pandemic seriously... Or at least the small sample of parents and children we meet today. The irony was passing the city sign as we headed toward the freeway about the folks of the city wearing masks here. It saddens me that the community mentality to protect everyone.. self and others.. amidst a very serious disease.. is lacking. If the park were empty I would have recommended maybe four stars for the cute little community park. Definitely won't make the effort to return nor recommend after today's horrible experience.. which is unfortunate. read more

This park is very simple. I loved the atmosphere! Not too crowded and super clean. It's a great place for a party birthday or family event. The bathrooms were so clean and smelled fresh. I was in total shock! Definitely a great park to take the family or to have a friendly date. read more

We enjoy this park. There is a paved trail around the entire park which makes it nice for scootering and biking. There is ton of grass but not a lot of shade. There is a younger kid section and an older kid section. Two older swings, and one bucket swing (probably because of covid). Bathrooms are clean and accessible. Hidden Canyon Community Park is a clean, gem of a park with a beautiful view. While there are no dogs allowed here, it's a rare day when you won't see someone walking one. There's a walking trail that runs downhill from the entrance, but I'm not sure quite how far it goes; I'll have to check it out one of these days... While the open spaces in this park are a bit small for adult gatherings, there are two play areas for children. read more

Beautiful, tranquil and super clean. I love coming here. The park is so well maintained and its always fun because the kid goes crazy. We went at about 5pm and set up a BBQ. Super fun! This is an excellent park! Safe, In a nice neighborhood and my favorite to bring my kids to in north carlsbad. It's always very clean and has great structures. They have a really nice path for bike riding or rollerblading and a little kid area as well as a big kid area which is nice. The baby swings are over my the little kid area separate from the big kid swings which I like for safety reasons! Great grassy area to play on as well and a bathroom. Easy parking lot right by the entrance of the park, and great sunset views. They also have tables for picnicking. read more

This lovely park is not so close to where we live now, in Fallbrook, but it's not too far from where my younger son attends school, at a Charter in Oceanside. Since we are already making the big commute every day, we usually put the bike rack on the car and bring our bikes (we also change it up and bring scooters or the hoverboard, sometimes we will look for a park that has tennis courts and bring the racquets or a basketball/football/soccer ball to get out of the house, so we are almost never at the same park twice in a row. In fact, we look for new parks that we have never been to before to get some new scenery in or just to check it out so we know which ones are good for certain activities and which ones we should probably avoid! This makes reviewing each of them on Yelp! an easily referenced tool when looking to head out with specific items. It's usually quiet when we head out to most parks, but the ones in Carlsbad and San Marcos/Vista tend to be much larger than what we can find in Fallbrook and Oceanside, so after school park trips are usually spent either close to school or completely out of the way (since we've got to make the long drive home anyway, might as well get a little energy run off before heading home for dinner and homework! This is one of the best parks we have been to in quite a while, when it comes to finding a new park. I was really pleased when I saw the spaciousness of the park and the Yelp! reviews had mostly been great, which is a good sign that we are in for a treat. The fact that it's not a dog park (at least, I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be a dog park, those of you rule breakers out there know who you are!) was appealing, and you can't really describe how pretty the park itself is without seeing it with your own eyes. I was very happy to see that it wasn't completely deserted, because my son likes to play with other children, but it wasn't so crowded that I was going to throw out my neck muscles trying to play "I Spy" in order to wade through a sea of children and find my kiddo! I have yet to see a park in Carlsbad that is not kept up nicely, so shout out to all the people who are either keeping it clean because they respect where they visit or to those who work for the city and keep this park looking so sharp! If you want a great place to hang out where you can watch your little one (and get out there to play with them too), then I highly recommend this park. Dog walkers, I love your fur babies, but if you're gonna go full anarchy, bring a bag, mmkay? ;) read more

This is a beautiful, newly redone, safe, fun, and relaxing park. Truly as good as it gets for little ones. I've been to several parks in the area with my nieces and nephew and with my friends' kids. This one is my favorite--and I think it is theirs too. From the City of Carlsbad website: "Located in northeast Carlsbad, the park contains a short trail that connects it to the Ann D. L'Heureaux Dog Park. Formerly known as Larwin Park, the 22-acre park site is divided by a large canyon containing vegetation that supports the California gnatcatcher, an endangered species. The majority of the park will remain undeveloped open space." Apparently the tiny blue and white birds that you see flitting about here are the endangered gnatcatchers. Now we know. This park really stole my heart with its safe design. There is only one entrance and exit to the street, which is clearly visible from any point around the play area, so there's less opportunity for your kids to go running toward the street.. The play area is on fairly flat ground, so you can always see your kids. The little kid playground and big kid playground are close to each other, and the picnic tables are in between them, so it's easy to keep an eye on multiple kids at the same time. The picnic area is very welcoming. I've had a very nice picnic here. I've also seen parents set it up for a birthday party, with all the favors, strollers, and bags in one central location. Even the planter is fun, with a broad edge for sitting or playing balance beam. The equipment also shines. It's pretty new, so I mean that literally! Both the big kid and little kid areas have plenty to do--I guarantee that your kids will not get bored here. And the big kid area has some pretty challenging equipment like a barrel run and a horizontal ladder. My nephew loved the barrel run--the better to show off on--and lucky for me it also tired him out. With a name like Hidden Canyon, how can you resist? Even when it's overcast, it seems like the sun is shining on this park. read more

Tiny little park tucked in neighborhood. It's actually more of a green belt with a playground. There is an open field but it's not level ground (has a pitch and roll)'so I wouldn't play ball there. read more

What a nice little park with a great playground and very well maintained perfect for kids. The kids really enjoy the jungle gym and the areas to walk on but how clean it is and well taken care of. The lighting at night isn't great I would go during the day and I would also make sure to bring something to drink for the kids. read more

It's a small park hidden, as the name indicates, in a community. A good word for the feel of the park is "neat." It doesn't have that much natural appeal in terms of huge trees and the like, but it's neat and tidy. The two playgrounds are average. Nothing special. I'm basing this on the response of my two kids, aged 3 and 5, that were ready to go in less than an hour. In a word, it's ok. read more

Park has two playgrounds (toddler and older kids), a large enough grass area for kids to run, bathrooms, and a small parking lot. I rate this park 3 stars because in my opinion it could be maintained better, i.e., the grass isn't cut and brown in a lot of areas and the toddler playground has a lot of wood chips strewn about. There are few times a week that the dogs get good interaction with other dogs. This was a great experience for them and us! Good people.

Great park!! Tucked away and very nicely laid out. Perfect mix for kids- one area for small kids and another for older kids. Lots of open grass area, bbqs, bench areas and well kept. Small amount of parking but you can park up at the dog park then walk the trail down to the park. We went on a Saturday and although there was quite a bit of people the park is spread out where everyone can enjoy it. We will be back! Nice job Carlsbad! read more

This is such a nice park and it is "Hidden" although I think a lot more people have found out about this place. It is a safe, fun park. They have a little park for toddlers and a bigger park...which my toddlers also enjoy. There are also concrete paths where you can bring scooters or bikes and ride around safely knowing that a car isn't going to come by. We have also gone to several birthday parties here. There are nice big green areas where you could have a bouncy house or just run around and play. It is a safe, clean and fun atmosphere. read more
