I mistakenly thought this was a hot yoga studio, so it was totally my bad, however, the studio is nicely equipped! They provide yoga mats, blankets, bolsters, blocks and straps. I went to a morning weekday vinyasa class and it was great, I felt taller leaving. The instructor was skilled and demonstrated/practiced with us (something I don't see too often) which was super appreciated, and she made an effort to connect to the students. I felt challenged without being overly out of my element. I'm a beginner yogi and recommend this studio to people who don't like hot yoga and just want to do regular temperature yoga. read more

I teach hatha yoga in San Francisco. I have been living a yogic lifestyle for many moons. I recently went to Ocean Yoga in Pacifica to see a kirtan aka Bhakti yoga aka call & response chanting. While hatha yoga is postural yoga aka meditation for restless people Bhakti yoga is from the heart & is devotional in nature. I love the space here & lovely kirtan. Friendly staff when checking in. I am VERY pleased every time I get a massage from Philip Kilmer at Ocean Yoga. He remembers me and the issues I need worked on. I first saw Philip a few years back and told him my hip was bothering me. All the other masseuse I've seen had always told me they don't work on the hip area. Philip jumped right in and got to work! Great yoga studio located in a very convenient strip plaza with lots of parking. I came here for an early Sat morning heated vinyasa class and it was an amazing experience. I haven't sweated like that in a yoga class in a while and it was so nice to get a detox going and being completely in the moment in a mindful practice. The class invoked some chanting and singing which was a little much for me at times, but I really appreciated the harmony and unison that it created between all participants. I absolutely love the floors that they have set up in their studios - firm yet padded, I felt that it gave me a lot more grip than the typical bamboo flooring that I see at other studios. If we were to practice any inversions or arm balances, I would also be less afraid of falling due to the give of the floor. I love Tuesday nights with Julz! She is an amazing teacher. Her practice is easy to follow but definitely a work out. Her challenging sequences are so fun and her music is on point. At the beginning of class she makes it a point to introduce herself to new students and it makes the class feel very personal. I'm hoping she teaches more classes at this location. Alright you guys, I've waited a whole month to write this review! I got the new student deal that gets you unlimited classes for a month. Unfortunately, I don't think I took advantage of the deal as much.. Pro tip: don't sign up for this new student deal during the holidays, when it's much more tempting to stay home and pig out (: I unintentionally took a long yoga break, so I wanted to ease my way into it. So the classes I took tend to be more on the mellow side. Here's a rundown of the classes: - Marianne: Yin and Yang on Fridays- I definitely felt balanced after the class and appreciated that she walked around and did adjustments. It's a lot more holding your stretches than it is quickly moving from one pose to the other. It's a nice class when you're feeling a bit sluggish. I also went to a few of Marianne's Mindful flow classes on Saturdays- I was told it's almost always full. I can see why it's so popular. It's a little slower so you're really aware of each pose, and you're still getting a workout. Her voice is very calming and she walks you through each pose really well. - Jackie: Hatha Yoga on Tuesdays- She was the only instructor here to introduce herself to me (and a few others), so she obviously knew her regulars. I'm not sure I understand what Hatha yoga is, but it was a pretty popular class. I definitely built up heat (though I didn't break a sweat), so I felt like it was similar to the Mindful flow classes. - Samantha: Vinyasa 101 on Fridays. This was probably my favorite class of the ones I tried! She introduced herself to the class, which is nice for people who are new to the class! She had a lot of personality that she included in her practice which was refreshing. You can't go wrong with a classic vinyasa practice. - Dawn, substitute for David, Hatha Yoga on Wednesdays: Her class was bit slow for me, but I appreciated that she checked in with everyone to see if we had any injuries and adjusted her practice to fit everyone. Everything else: Everyone I met at the front desk was super friendly. The common areas are cute and super cozy. The space is shared with a few massage rooms so make sure you're quiet when you walk from one room to the other. There's water and ceramic mugs available for use, so I definitely appreciate that they're being green! There's plenty of parking outside, but a lot of them say 15 minutes only. But I'm told it's not enforced. Kinda confusing. My only gripe, which is no fault of the studio, is that a lot of the classes were packed. I'm all for camaraderie, but not everyone is exactly aware of their surroundings. I also get low-key anxiety knowing that if I'm not there 15 minutes before class, I'll have trouble finding a spot. I guess they must be packed for a reason, right? I'm going to try a couple of the other yoga studios in the area and will hopefully report back. read more

I can't say enough about how wonderful ocean yoga is. I was new again to yoga after not doing it for 20ish years and took an intro to yoga workshop back in March. Everyone is so welcoming and helpful, and not once have I felt like I was lost or left to figure out an unfamiliar pose. I even jumped into what I would call an advanced class, pretty out of shape and clueless, but Tatiana guided me through the poses and I did not feel awkward, or worse, hurt myself. I attend her classes regularly now, along with David's and all the other instructors. I come here almost daily and love everything about it, including the front desk and Lisa (massage therapist). I just found my "thang" in this studio. I discovered yoga about 6 months ago. After my ACL surgery I was looking for a new way to strengthening my knee. I tried Bikram yoga and always felt I would die in the class. Ocean Yoga has warm (not so hot) classes. I love their warm classes. During the intro month, I went to so many classes just to figure out which teacher I like. Neil: He is a kick butt teacher. His regular class (Bhakti power yoga) is very intense and fast pace. Always crowded. He is for advanced yogis who know poses and have practiced for so long. At the end of his class I was drained. I think I will build my strength for a couple of month bfr I take his class again. Btw, he sub for an intermediate class, that I was in just for 1 time, wow, I totally dig him!!!! Marianne: My kind of teacher! Her class is slow paced but the poses are challenging. She has a set of exercise and stick with it for a month. I like it, because I can feel how I have improved at the end of the month. She will touch and correct your body. Excellent class! Jackie: I took her classes a couple of times. I'm not sure I understand the concept of Hatha at all. Patrick: I love his class also. He went slow for the first set of Vinyasa flow, then let us do the next couple ones at our pace. I love it. My tricep and quad were fully engaged!!! I had never confidently paid more than $50/month for any fitness gym. But, I sign up for their monthly unlimited yoga ($108 per month). After months of looking for a yoga/pilates studio near my house, I finally decided to sign up for classes at Ocean Yoga. They currently have a deal for new students- $40 for a month of unlimited classes! This was my chance to try out this place without making a huge commitment. This studio deserves 5 stars because of their location, parking lot, friendly instructors & people, fair rates, and wide range of different classes/times. Yoga mats, blankets, rollers, pilates rings, etc. are all provided for us to use. (I will probably bring a small towel next time for times when we need to put our head/face on the mat.) I took a Gentle Yoga class yesterday with Sue- she was great! She made sure we were comfortable with the poses, corrected us when necessary, and showed us alterations of poses depending on our skill level. I just had my first pilates class today with Lindsay. She was also amazing! It was a small class of 4, and we were all new to the class. She went slow and gave us a great intro to pilates. I missed taking pilates classes and felt very comfortable there. I have a few more classes signed up (unlimited for a month!!), and will likely continue the pilates class after my month ends. read more

I am updating my review to add that I have been to a couple classes at Ocean Yoga and I love it! I especially love the Thursday alignment yoga. The drawbacks in my opinion is the shape of the room (it's a rectangle) which for a person who is uber sensitive to space, the shape feels awkward. Also the room is fairly small, which makes it a little packed for classes (or a lot packed sometimes). But the classes themselves are pretty good. And you can't beat the easy location in Eureka Square. I am still trying out studios to see which one I'll stick with so I'll update again! read more

I am 6 months pregnant and tried both their prenatal yoga and a prenatal massage. I was disappointed in both. The yoga class was okay. We spent about 15 minutes going around the room and introducing ourselves, which didn't seem like time well spent. We could have at least been doing poses while that conversation was going but we just sat there. Not a productive use for a 60 minute class. The instructor (Samantha) kept advertising her doula services for another company which was less than professional. I don't want to be advertised at every 5 minutes. About 2 weeks later I tried a prenatal massage. I was very disappointed with Verne. I specifically told him my hips were bothering me and asked him to focus on there, but he spent maybe 60 seconds total on that area. The 2nd half of the massage I was laying on my back, and he propped a pillow under me which made a nerve in my back pinch. I told him I was uncomfortable and he told me to adjust myself and just kept working. I tried to find a comfortable position but couldn't, and I really wish he would've stopped and helped me get comfortable instead of letting me lie there in pain. When I left, I was in much more pain than when I started. When I went to pay the girl at the cash snapped at me about leaving a tip, which I didn't appreciate. I was expecting her to hand me the pinpad and she said, sternly and loudly, "SO WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEAVE A TIP" while giving me a dirty look. Calm down lady, I was planning on using the pinpad like every other business in 2017. I won't be returning. read more

Love this yoga studio. As soon as I walk in, I always feel energized and calm to restore my mental and physical self. I usually take Neil's classes because he plays drums during the practice and it goes with his fast-paced flows. I wouldn't recommend to beginners as people would just get lost in his what he's saying plus the drums to match the beat...but it's so fun! This is the closest to Bikram, which I personally don't like, but I leave drenched. read more

Super love this studio. It has 2 studios. One for heated and one for non heated classes. My favorite class is with Neil. His evening classes are NOT for beginners as it's a fast flow and you kind of have to know the yoga poses by name when he calls them out for a nice flow or else you will not enjoy the class. And get ready to sweat and feel sore the day after! But he does have morning classes for everyone and a slower flow. Other teachers are awesome as well and I'm still making my rounds of attending the classes they have. Sarah has a good voice and her classes are good too, she's very caring and warm. You can also do the restorative yoga with Ally if you just want a zen and meditative class for a 'no workout' day. I can see myself coming here more often than I expect! read more

My husband and I were fortunate enough to find ocean yoga during the pandemic. Their unlimited membership for live, virtual classes was not only incredibly affordable, it gave us a wide variety of styles and times to choose from. The membership price has since gone up but we understand and continue to make it work. Every single class we've taken has been a great learning experience, and the instructors are so welcoming and warm. I signed up for the student special with two goals: *belly dancing *class schedule Vs my schedule The belly dancing classes were amazing and I love love love the instructor Andrea. I had taken lessons back in high school and understood some basics about hip movements. She made the class focus on simply moving, which showed by the sweat stains on the front and back of my shirt. She does teach new choreography at the start of every month, something to keep in mind for any first-timers. The new student special helped me figure out what classes I liked, what classes I was able to make after work, and which teachers I liked. BTW Lindsey is hands down my favorite! I wish she could do more later classes since I'm usually driving from the Embarcadero for work! Overall, so far best investment I've made. Ocean Yoga has A handful of licenses massage therapists on staff and I had appointments with one after the other until I found one I liked. Massage, like yoga, is very individual and everyone wants something different, so it is really nice that they have a selection. I love yoga. I love yoga so much I even took a yoga teacher training when I lived in LA. So I have taken a lot of yoga. I learn more in one class with Wini Linguvic than I did in the entire yoga teacher training I did. My yoga teacher in San Francisco told me to take her class. And said to NOT be surprised if she reads your body as she is a bit of a mystic. The first time I took her class she said something about my body and that there was no way she could have known. My down dog will never be the same. The energy in her classes is so different than any class I have ever been in before. You can't help but try harder. The only downside is you have to plan two weeks in advance to take her class and they fill up FAST. read more

Jackie Rosenheim's classes are still the best studio classes I've taken in the bay area. They are the perfect combination of releasing physical tension and working up a sweat without forgetting that yoga is first and foremost a spiritual practice that readies the body for meditation. I always felt like I could either challenge myself or take it easy as she usually taught a good balance of more/less challenging poses as well as modifications to address diverse abilities. Just generally, to me Ocean Yoga has an authentic feeling that is sometimes lacking from many yoga studios. Most of the teachers are well trained and experienced, and I always had the experience at OY of yoga as a holistic practice (not just a workout routine)- which is what I generally look for in a studio. read more

This is my happy place. I started here on a groupon 3 months ago and ended up getting an annual membership. The front desk people, the yoga instructors, and all the people practicing are kind and positive. Originally, I started with the intention to rehab my very injured ankles and gain flexibility. Soon I realized that a lot of my body pain was coming from an anxious and depressed mind. The classes help me be mindful in a way that I always struggled with through my ADHD. My flexibility has increased (some days more than others), my ankles strength has improved (post major surgeries for multiple breaks and sprains), and my mood has been brightened. I have fought depression my whole life. When I am in any of these classes, my depression and anxiety goes away, sometimes only for 90 minutes and sometimes it lasts outside of class. The atmosphere is inviting and every instructor I've had has been wonderful in their own unique way...it just depends what you are looking for in terms of challenge and practice that day. Since the instructors are so different, I'll give a little overview of each one I have tried in order of how often I have gone to their class. Neil -Amazing workout. He speaks pretty quickly, which works for me, because it stops my mind from ever wandering since I have to pay attention or I'll fall behind. He takes you to freaking church! He is super motivating and kind. He adds in different poses each time, so there are always moments where people get a bit confused, but Neil is so encouraging that when we try and sometimes fail, you end up just laughing and continuing. It's a very challenging and joyful class. If anyone says yoga is easy, direct them to Neil's class to eat their words. His classes are usually packed, which adds an extra element of heat and community. Walking out of his class, I feel euphoric. If he ever starts a cult, I'll be first to join.....jk.....kinda Sara Fletcher - I have done her Vinyasa 101 and had her substitute many other classes like Hatha. Girl works her tail off doing her regular classes and subbing all the time. Super positive, great flow, slightly less challenging than Neil's but still a great workout. She has a very soothing voice, and a lot of the times she adds in essential oils which is very relaxing. Shannon - heated Vinyasa - She is so sweet. She reminds me of an extremely nice, down-to-earth cheerleader. She is super upbeat and encouraging. Her classes are less full so you have more room which is nice. Her challenge level is medium, which is perfect for Mondays and Wednesday vibes. Marianne Lin - Mindful flow with yin - Starts off slow and then picks up heat. Instead of moving quickly between poses, she leads you to take poses deeply for longer. Good for practicing your balance and working on flexibility. You end with a pretty long meditation. She is a very kind instructor, and I love her German accent. Jackie - Hatha - Really great flow, but too long a savasana at the end for me...my mind starts to get ansty. David - Hatha - Medium challenge level, good flow. Spiritual practice. Sheila - heated Vinyasa - Pretty similar in challenge level and vibe to Sara. Solid practice. I told one of the front desk people how much I loved her class on the way out and was surprised to learn she is a new teacher. I could not clock that she was new at all. Dawn - Vinyayoga - Incredibly kind and relaxing. This class is good for beginners. I enjoyed the positivity of all the people in the class, but my antsy mind needs a faster pace and more of a challenge to stop from losing focus so I haven't returned. She has very good neck stretches which I appreciate very much! read more

Mark is a healer. He is far more than a regular massage therapist. I'd recommend seeing Mark when you are in PAIN, some part of your body is not WORKING PROPERLY, and you are in need of serious RECOVERY and HEALING. I've had chronic back and shoulder problems for years and I've literally seen dozens of massage therapists, chiropractors, and acupuncturists. So I'd consider myself to be somewhat of an expert in massage techniques and abilities. Mark is one of the best I've ever found. I started seeing him regularly when I tore my calf and tendon in a skiing accident (I found him on MyTime.com). He has been working with me weekly to help bring down the swelling, restore circulation, and break down scar tissue from a pretty nasty injury. I can't say it doesn't hurt like Hell when he's working on my injury, but after each session I feel a lot better and I am positive it's speeding up my recovery and rehabilitation. Mark really knows his anatomy and is completely attuned to the body and it's needs. He has traveled around the world and studied many different massage and natural healing modalities. What has come together from his wide ranging education is a pretty unique skill set and someone who has the power to fix underlying problems rather than just superficial symptoms. He's an entertaining guy with a lot of personality as well. I usually don't like someone talking to me when I'm getting a massage, but with Mark I end up chatting for a lot of the session by choice. He's just got all kinds of interesting stories and advice to share if you're interested. read more

Yoga is a beautiful spiritual practice than just a physical one. Dear Dana, your style doesn't do justice to this ancient Indian practice! Kindly call your class drill exercises instead of Yoga! I found your style extremely loud, boisterous and unkind and I left the class leaving disappointed and in extreme physical discomfort. You chant ahimsa in your class but your style is far from it! " Om Buhr Bhuva swaha" ( ancient Sanskrit Gayatri Mantra) is not a " damn" chant with the word " yum". This is the highly revered beautiful sloka ( song) , a Hindu prayer to the gods . Kindly don't insult it. A chant is for spiritual purposes, to align the body with the mind, to heal both the body and mind of all ills. If you can't respect it , please don't chant it! I will recover from my injury soon but I wanted you to know that Yoga asks you to be kind! That's what the practice is all about. Namaste! I tried yoga once before and I felt like a fool. I never stretch, so i look like gumby and I hate my feet so that's all I can think about. I saw the deal at ocean yoga and had been quite stressed out, so I decided to give it a try. WOW. not only was every instructor nice and supportive (I tried about half of the classes), I felt so comfortable and started feeling stronger and calmer after just 1 week. I highly recommend this place to beginners, especially people who have never done yoga. I didn't renew my membership due to a change in jobs and not knowing if I would be able to make the classes I wanted to go to. I absolutely plan on going back within the next two months. read more

I was completely new to yoga before Ocean Yoga. I took two Bikram yoga classes and thought that I would never do yoga again, until I came across this place. Forty dollars for thirty days new student special, huh? Okay. On the new student special, I went practically every day. They have a good number of classes in the morning and the evening to fit your schedule. I very much prefer the hot classes than the cold classes because my body is very stiff. Plus, the floor in the cold classes are too hard for me (regular hardwood floors, vs. padded mats, which makes the poses much more difficult to balance, which only means you're working out more). I've been to many of the teachers and I really enjoy them all. You will just have to find one that's right for you. The morning classes aren't as packed as the evening classes. Neil's class is always packed, but his classes are very fast paced and when you think you're gonna be done, nope, he makes you hold your leg up and just move to a different position. Tatiana is one of the harder teachers, but you definitely build a lot of strength in her classes. She also does a lot of twists in her class, which sometimes leaves you thinking, "wait, we're going to do what now?" Paz is amazing because she gives you a calming sensation. She never pushes you past your body's boundaries. Nhi, on the other hand, will push you further than you can imagine, which can be a good or bad thing (depending on your learning style). She'll also correct your poses or push you a little further to create a bigger stretch with your poses. Amy does a lot of balancing stuff, so if you want your legs to be rock solid, she's definitely great for that. Ed has great, contemporary music selections with some hip-hoppy elements to it, which I enjoy, and he'll also give you a great workout. I've had Claire sub classes a few times and she also does very inventive and interesting yoga styles which work out muscles that you may not normally work out. Patrick's classes are also very calming, mostly because of his voice (though pretty much all of the teachers have calming, soothing voices). He'll also align you so that you're doing the poses properly (instead of twisting or hurting your body because you've held your pose wrong). Of course, if you don't like to be touched when you're doing the poses, you can just let them know. I like to be corrected because I'm new and I don't want to end up messing my body because I've been holding my poses wrong for months. Now I've been doing yoga for about 2 months and I seriously never thought that yoga was for me... ever in my life. Ocean Yoga's hot yoga classes totally changed my mind forever. So when in the middle of a massage, the last thing you want to suddenly think is "WTF is that?!?!"...UNLESS it's the amazing feeling of a hot stone that your therapist discreetly incorporates into the massage. Took me a while to figure out that her hands weren't spontaneously catching fire, but were instead stones being used to relax my insanely tight muscles. Lisa is a great massage therapist. This was my first time at Ocean Yoga at the recommendation of a friend and I'm so thankful. I need deep tissue massages. Seriously, I need someone to squeeze the shit out of me. I let her know this and she dug in with her hands and her stones. She pressed so hard at one point, my cheeks displaced the face pillow from the bed frame. Now that's what I'm talking about! Haven't been back for over a year. They seem to be oretty busy/thriving as 1000 ppl purchased the Groupon promo! I see a couple of reg instructors aren't there any longer. I'm considering to return as they hv a good schedule serving the community. They also hv belly dance classes which I'd like to try, but unsure if the membership covers those classes or if those are extra charge If you like chill classes Jackie, Tierra, and dawn are ideal.
