Normally when I find a store up north that I like but isn't available in good ol' Florida; I'll say…read moresomething along the lines of: "Well gosh golly!! Wish they had this store down in Florida!" .....Why did I suddenly picture little Timmy from Lassie? Anyway, I'm going to be selfish this time around and say that I hope Joey'z ne ..... Now.. let's just hold our horses here a minute. Why is there a Z and not an S after Joey? Maybe the change in that one letter makes all the difference in the world and I am suddenly hip and cool when I tell people: "Yeah bro; I shop at Joey'zzzzzzzzzzzzz" or maybe it's meant to be pronounced with a French accent so people think you're super sophisticated for shopping there. So if you're still actually reading my ramblings, the reason why I like this store and always stop by when I'm in town is because they have really nice, cheap household items. I'm specifically referring to curtains, table cloths, and kitchen gadgets. The designs and styles are beautiful and in my side of town are rare to come across unless you're willing to shovel out a small fortune and even then they don't look as nice. Thank you Joey, Le Joey'zzzzzzzzzz or yo Joeyz for making something cheap look beautiful and expensive.

It's inspiring. It really draws you in. As for the actual merchandise, it's definitely not expensive, but the store is chock-full of the stuff that gets 2 stars on Amazon, the cheap no-brand imports that might photograph OK from one angle and one angle only. (I actually saw a dish rack here that I nearly bought on Amazon but shied away from because it looked likely to fall apart. It was cheaper at Joey'z but no less questionable -- and I'm just cheap enough that I might go back for it.) If you want thin curtains or normal shower curtains, they have a HUGE selection! Seriously, more than Bed, Bath & Beyond. But nothing over about $15.

I went there 2 times and both times when I walked in, the lady just looked at me and turned her head. I asked if she could help me grab something on the top shelf and she sighed, grabbed it for me and then when I asked a simple "wow, this is different! have you tried this?" She said in a very irritating manner "i dont know anything about that. I just sell it so just leave it there if you dont want it." All while walking away from me, no eye contact. I then stood in line waiting and waiting to be checked out while she was having side conversations with someone she knew. Conversations about grandchildren even though shes only in her 60's and how she wants one, how she doesnt want to wait till shes "10ft under" (thought the saying was 6ft under but anyways), talking about a restaurant near by, etc etc ALL WHILE SHE KNEW I WAS WAITING TO BE RUNG UP. As soon as I was about to put my stuff down and walk out, she goes "you need something?" I told her "yeah I'm waiting for you to ring me out." And she took my stuff, rang it, took my money AND THEN CONTINUED HER CONVO WHILE HOLDING ONTO MY MONEY!! She didnt put it in the register, she didnt get my change, she just held onto it and carried on with her conversation. I then wanted to take the money back and leave, thats when she opened the register, got my change and as I held my hand out for her to hand me my change, she just laid it on the counter for me to pick the change up. She didn't put my things in a bag, she didn't say thank you nor did she say goodbye. She just put my change on the counter and continued her conversation with the other person. I don't ever really see cars parked on their side of the parking lot and My mother and I were the only customers. No wonder why! I have a business of my own, my whole family does. That is not how you run a business. I felt SO disrespected while shopping there. I was not rude, I was smiley when I walked in and I always try to speak politely and professionally. If that lady isnt the owner then that place needs a new employee or new staff members. Someone who can utilize the down time to tidy up the place and can offer decent customer service. Completely unacceptable. I would give it 0 stars if I could, shame to this business.

This store is a real trip - you will find one helluva totally random section of cheap crap everywhere. They have a wall full of "Slightly Out of Date" over the counter cold remedies and pain killers, cheap greeting cards, cheap Tee Shirts, cheap baseball caps, cheap school supplies, cheap socks and candy and sunglasses, and more varieties of masking tape than I ever knew existed. We picked up a long sleeve T shirt and some packing tape for a fraction of what we would have paid anywhere else. LOL- totally random stuff indeed !

Or a Saturday Night Live inspired coffee mug? Perhaps a magnet with something about your horoscope? Rubber gloves? Cheap sweatshirt? Socks? Butt paste for babies? Seriously - this store is a blast. We always find awesome randomness that we didn't know that we needed (or even wanted) before we walked in there. Last year we found fantastic, really old baseball cards (don't eat the gum!!) and this time a combination of a great little gardening item, electrical tape, doorstops and a Northampton magnet! This was our first visit to Newington's Ollie's, and we scored a fantastic deal. I am the Committee Chair for a convention next month, and one of the participation activities for the conventioneers will be assembling kits to donate to a Boston charity for children in need. We are set on the school supply side, but we are still a little short on the socks and underwear side for 50 boys and girls. So, when I saw a "15% off" email from Ollie's, it seemed like a divine sign to make a pilgrimage to the new Ollie's in Newington. And guess what we found? How about 5-packs of boy's underwear marked down to $2.99? BEFORE our 15% discount. Thank you, Lord Ollie. Ollie's was stocked to the gills and very neatly shelved. We bought this eclectic mix of goods: a big bag of Dot's pretzels, five boxes of K Cup coffees, a bottle of shampoo, a jar of pickled zucchini, a jar of salsa, and 20 of the aforementioned underwear 5-packs for just a shocking $88. Ollie's is a fun store to browse around in, and today we made out like bandits.

"Down in New Orleans where everything's fine all them cats…read moreis drinkin' that wine Drinkin' that mess is their delight when they get drunk start singin' all night" (Jerry Lee Lewis) We've been big fans of Ocean State Job Lot for years and must have visited half a dozen locations in three states. But today, we saw something in their Sturbridge, MA store we had never seen before. They sell wine! Yes, they had a big sign in the shape of a wine bottle hanging from ceiling wires directing us to their wine and beer section. I didn't see much beer, but I sure saw quite a few bottles of wine. Who knew? That was just one of the revelations we had while shopping in their aisles today. The main revelation was just how large and neat and well stocked this store is. Their pricing is about the same as we've seen in other OSJLs, and that means pricing is pretty good. We spent a teense over $20 on an eclectic assortment of Polar Orange Dry soda ($1.99 for a six-pack), a container of curry powder (OSJL is our "go to" store for spices), parchment paper, some beef jerky and beef sticks, some soup and entrée mixes, two boxes of tissues, a container of chicken broth, a box of cereal, and a container of breadcrumbs. A very nice haul for the price. OSJL is an interesting franchise -some locations are small, cluttered, and unpleasant to shop in. Not here, we had a great experience, even if we didn't come out with a bottle of wine. Cheers!
