My haul

I absolutely love North Hampton for a variety of reasons but Deals & Steals is definitely one of those reasons. I always find myself stocking up on vegan items that would normally cost a small fortune at whole foods. My dad likes to refer to this place as "Deal or no Deal" mainly because you either find fantastic deals, or you simply don't. There actually are quite a number of items that actually are just regular priced items, but look for those deals! Tip, if you get 3, $1.99 priced items, it will total to just $5 at the register.

Bargains galore.

[SNL Stephan voice] Northampton's hottest store is... Deals and Steals. This place has everything... Honest hand sanitizer, fair-trade coffee beans, organic cereal, Birkenstocks, & tank tops for $2. Seriously though, There is definitely something for everyone, every budget, and every stomach. On this last visit, I picked up 3 bags of Kettlecorn (Buy 1 get 2 free!), a WHOLE CASE of squeeze-pouch type Happy Tots fruit for $2 (!! About 16 pouches), whole leaf English Breakfast pyramid sachet tea (3 boxes for $5), sparkling lemonade for $0.99, and handcrafted marshmallows for $1. Some of the shoes for sale are not much less than what you could find at a Famous Footwear or DSW. However, I did spy a clearance section in the back, and a lucky shopper may find a pair of Sketchers for $5-10. Only thing that is truly missing is kids clothes and shoes. For the best bargains, go towards the back of the store, close to the window. They're on the floor, you will see a pile of boxes and crates. This is the super clearance section, where all sorts of organic snacks, Dry Goods, mixes, and microwavable meals are available for just under a few bucks. Beware though, because most of these are already or close to the Best Buy date. You can still find things that are good within the month though. Parking is available on the street or in the nearby lot. I hope to come back when I'm in the area again!

Dirt cheap prices on near or expired dry foods. Truly exposes how much grocery stores are stealing from us!

Impressed by the brands that they had. Double check expiration date. I got a bunch of snacks there.

The atmosphere was vibrant and friendly. A bit loud, but encouraging to see how bustling the restaurant was. I enjoyed my grilled caesar salad. I added chicken so it was a bit pricey for a lunch salad, but it was tasty and I always appreciate when caesar salads include anchovies, as they're meant to! My husband liked his rigatoni bolognese. Service was excellent. Our server was very apologetic about how long things were taking, but with a full house it honestly just felt like a good pace without any excessive waiting. It was a great experience overall.

I was caught off guard when they asked how I wanted my salmon cooked, but honestly I'm glad they did because it was perfect. So moist and flaky. This was a dish with many elements and I thought they all went great together. The meal was Cajun inspired so some elements had a bit of a kick, but the slaw was cooling and the roasted vegetables didn't have much seasoning so they were a break in the heat. I would've liked the Brussels sprouts to be a little more crispy but they were sweet and cooked properly and truly a highlight of the meal. The rest of my family got pizzas. The Maui Wowie was beloved. The Tuscan chicken pesto was also pretty good. My mother-in-law ordered the Bianco but didn't really like it, she thought the second half wasn't even worth saving. There was not nearly enough balsamic and too much arugula. The arugula was very good with the fried goat cheese and whipped ricotta appetizers, both were divine. The margaritas were good but the "salted" rims had almost no salt. The service was adequate, the water was nice and cold, but the interior was loud people with loud music and those in our party with hearing issues were left out of the conversation.

If you're not familiar with it, like us, definitely look into the town/city before making a trip. Make a day of it. And bring a cooler for the turnover, popovers and meats you'll be toting home :)

This place is a real goldmine for anything British/Irish, and I can get all my favourite foods from childhood here. His selection of frozen pies, bacon, haggis, jams, clotted cream, crisps (chips) and sweets (candy) is impressive, and pricing is good for imported foods. Alan is a wonderful man, very attentive and knows where absolutely everything is. The only drawback is that public parking can sometimes be hard to find as it fills up quickly outside.

Depending on your order, your drink might be served in an Erlenmeyer flask, beaker, or Mason jar--which is very cool! As for food, it may be served on what resembles a dissection tray, adding to the distinctive experience. Iconica Social Club is a great place to catch up with friends, go on a first date, find a chill spot to get some work done, or catch some tunes (they have live performances). I stopped by with a friend, and we ordered the Cardamon & Honey Latte, Dark Chocolate Mocha Latte, and a slice of the London Fog pound cake. All three were delicious! Our order was ready pretty quickly and the staff were very friendly and attentive. There is ample indoor seating and outdoor seating. There is a second level that we didn't check out, but there is seating there as well. Accessibility isn't an issue, as most of the establishment is a single story with a ramp leading to the main entrance. Plus, there are two gender-neutral bathrooms located on the main level. There isn't parking directly near Iconica, so you'll have to find parking either on Main Street or one of the smaller side streets. I'll definitely be stopping by again the next time I'm in Northampton. Highly recommend!

I'm being generous with three stars because I want them to succeed in this spot where Ibiza and 7…read moreStrong have failed. Our experience here recently, was however, not up to snuff. The three of us were seated an uncomfortably narrow small table. The restaurant means to sit 4 at these tables but they are really meant for two people. The folly of this size table was evident as soon as the food arrived. Homestead's menu is heavy on small plates and we ordered one starter, 5 small plates and one pasta between the three of us. The larger plate menu (meant for 2) has only four items..a chicken, a fish, a meat, a vegetarian. They were out of the fish. All of the dishes basically arrived simultaneously. There was no room on the small table for all of the dishes. Kind of ridiculous to try and maneuver. So we hurriedly finished off a couple of dishes so the server could make room for the dishes in her hand. I can't imagine if we had four people at the table and they tried to fit 8 dishes on the table. They really need to time the arrival of the dishes so that we can enjoy and leisurely eat..not rush through them to make room for the more on the server and chef's schedule. The food? The ratatouille was delicious as was the Caesar salad. The arugula salad was fresh and satisfying. The salmon crudo was small, expensive and kinda weird. The butternut cavatelli with lemon and chicken was a wee tiny portion for $17 that was gloppy and without the advertised crispy skin. The $15 octopus was one tentacle in a spicy mush mosh. The charred shisito pepper starter was undercooked and came without the advertised sea salt. No bread offered. The wine list was really nice and fairly priced. The house wine was tasty at $5.50 a glass. All in all, disappointing but promising. The small plate emphasis will cause bigger than anticipated tabs. They really have to think about the size, comfort, and utility of those narrow rustic tables. And they need to stagger the arrival of the food so that customers are not rushed through their meals with all the dishes crammed on the table at once. Some nice traditional plates of food for one person (not everyone loves the sharing schtick) priced from $18-26 would be great. Homestead has promise but right now the attitude, and narrative outweigh the product and experience.
