    Chicken Souvlaki
    Doris M.

If u like your salad separate from your meat & u only like Chicken souvlakis And you want Rice all underneath your chicken ,which to me was very odd. (There is no place for rice in a souvlaki), and the smallest corner of a pita bread, then this is the place for you, definitely not me. It was overpriced. I had to eat all the rice first before I could dump my salad in the container & try to have a normal souvlaki. I'm a steak person, but they only had chicken & pork ! Pork ?? Really ?? Never heard of that before. Anyways, I would never get another souvlaki from there. Idr what else they had.

Occasions has been in the neighbourhood for over 30 years. I've had so many things on the menu, we've probably dined over 200 times lol ! They open at 10am for full menu including breakfast. The eggs bene is excellent not pretentious. It's 2 eggs (not 3) but only $14. It comes with home fries, or hand-cut fries and toast. I usually ask for slice tomatoes and skip the fries. The French onion soup is done perfectly like the classic. Sooo much cheese it's awesome and only $8 If I'm really hungry I get the hot turkey or hot roast beef. It's all roasted and sliced in house with mash/veg/ gravy. It's hard to find good old fashion hot sandwiches. They are known for the Thursday night rib special $22 for a full rack. Comes with soup/ salad, homemade fries & veggies. The ribs are fall off bone fantastic. The burgers, baked wings (yummo), grilled chicken Greek salad, roast beef dip are excellent too. It's a diner/pub grub place. Nothing fancy but good quality homemade food. Attaching their current menu(s) in pics. Service is friendly and efficient. Never a waiting game. The one star off is for the $3.25 charge for fountain pop. Everything is so reasonable (price wise) on the menu, not sure why pop so overpriced.

Friendly family style diner on Gerrard and Coxwell. Came for breakfast and it was exactly as expected. Familiar diner food with great service. Nothing fancy here in terms of food, but comforting to say the least.

Always drove by but never inside... Finally decided to give this place a try after years of wondering. Turns out a few friends who live nearby also had the same thought. Hence we decided to all give it a try together. There is a pub side and a restaurant side. We opted for the restaurant side. Service was great. We were greeted by the friendliest server. She was knowledgeable of the menu and had a good sense of humour. Always checked in on us throughout the meal. Unfortunately, I forget her name (Dina?)...sorry! The food was good. Just as we expected...the greasier the better (go big or go home...right haha) So we decided to share a bunch of things: chicken wings, dirty bread, calamari, chicken & Pork souvlaki sticks, nachos, jalapeño poppers, and a beef burger. Two things that really stood out were the chicken wings and dirty bread. Just like its name...the dirty bread was indeed D.I.R.T.Y! haha took garlic bread to the next level. Baked with loads of cheese, bacon bits and jalapeño. It was delicious! For the chicken wings, we got a pound of naked wings (Give it a try...You kind of forget how good naked wings tastes without all the dressing) as well as a pound of medium wings (which we asked for baked since the menu stated "they're famous"). Both were really good. I definitely prefer the baked version. Will definitely have to stop by and have a wings night soon. All in all, we were all glad we finally gave this place a try. We left with our bellies full of beer and greasy food and will definitely be back to do it all again soon.

Dingy on the inside and out. I've tried time and time again to like occasions but I can't. The food is mediocre at best. I had a french onion soup there that had no name croutons and tasted of salt and MSG. The standard bar style food. The wait staff a lot of the time are busy tending to their own children that and being babysat by a plate of fries in the booth near the service station The wait for everything is terrible, my main reason that I don't eat here anymore is the 30-40 min turnaround on a meal. Seriously if it's going to take you that long to cook it better taste of ambrosia and come with a happy ending. To sum it up, I don't like it, but I gave it a fair try.

I really like this restaurant, the price is fair and dishes are really well portion, you definitely will be full and the most important is that it is tasty. I ordered the classic 12 oz burger to go with fries and it was savory and juicy! You may say this place is similar to all the diner/bar restaurant around the neighborhood, but trust me, Occasions Restaurant is more delicious and fair for the price you pay. Lastly, there are various choices in the menu. It may take a long time for you to try everything and they have daily specials. In conclusion, it is good!

Occasions Restaurant: Ribs! Good price, great taste!

Very solid place that one probably had a similar experience if they went there 20 years ago…read more I had the moussaka and it was just what I wanted. The rice was actually a lot better than I expected. I know it's just a side, but rice at times from other Greek places isn't that great, and this was much better. My wife had the mix grill plate, and I helped. She absolutely loved the lamb. It was largely over the quality and the prep was fairly standard, but there's nothing wrong with that. The other parts didn't jump out, but were still perfectly good. The service was very attentive.

The potato layer feels fluffy and sandwiches thinly sliced eggplant, so the aubergine is rather pronounced. The ground beef mixture wasn't overly spiced and even the bechamel sauce was a thin layer, so it toasts the top but doesn't saturate the slice. Ultimately, it's not heavy so you could get through a full portion. A flaming saganaki ($19.95), the pan fried kefalotiri cheese, is a staple in Canadian Greek restaurants. It seems touristy to order but there's something endearing about setting a piece of cheese on fire and yelling "opa"! For me, the dish is more for the atmosphere than taste. Pantheon pan fries the cheese well, so it develops a crust even prior to flambeeing and serves it as a thick gooey slice. If only the accompanying bread wasn't so dry and mealy, a good saganaki calls for a better complement. Almost all their mains arrive with a sizeable Greek side salad that's smartly served first containing ample amounts of crumbled feta and some tomato, cucumbers, and onion over romaine. Their dressing is different, tamer and while still acidic there's a sweetness to it. Not sure, but perhaps they use a red wine vinegar and then blend the ingredients together so it's better combined? With the fishkebob souvlaki ($36.95) I was expecting fish, but it's really a seafood kebob containing shrimp, calamari and mushroom. It's cooked well with a faint grilled aroma, very tender, and lightly salted. Sadly, my steamed vegetables were merely carrots and didn't have the delicious garlicky green beans included on my friends' plates. Luckily, there was plenty with the moussaka so I could augment mine. At least there was an ample portion of roasted lemon potatoes that were soft and fluffy with a refreshing pronounced citrus finish. Pantheon doesn't skimp on the lamb chops that arrive with the entrée. And if you can't decide on what protein you'd like, their menu also offers some as add-ons. The lamb chop by the piece ($11.95) was bit gamier than I'd like but was cooked to a perfect medium doneness. A complimentary honey cake arrives for the table and is almost like having baklava in cake form. Just watch out, as the moist crumbly cake is difficult to pick up with a fork. Don't waste a bit of this delicious dessert, just use your fingers.

Me and some family members were in the area, and decided to give it a try. We were greeted and seated promptly and then, for the longest time ... nothing. As it turned out, we'd spend a lot longer at this restaurant than we had anticipated. After about 20 minutes, a kind and apparently exhausted waitress appeared, so we ordered drinks and saganaki to start. 10 minutes later, our drinks appeared, and we ordered our main courses then. Although the menu gave prices for wine by the glass, half litre or bottle, we were told that they don't have enough wine to offer any more than a glass at a time. Strange, and unexpected. Eventually, the saganaki (Greek flaming cheese) arrived, and it was really, really good - a generous triangle of grilled, flaming cheese, easily split between the three of us. It was served with some odd bread, which resembled buttered and toasted hot dog or burger buns. This helped take the edge off our hunger as we waited for our main course. And waited. Looking at the time, I noticed that we had already spent over 60 minutes in the restaurant, which was extremely chilly on a cold winter's evening. Many customers, including us, wore their coats throughout the evening. Apparently, the restaurant dining area is heated only by two electric fire places. Our waitress came out and let us know that we had to wait because my daughter's order of octopus was taking a while. At this point, we had already committed to being here, so we had no choice but to see it through. Finally, the food came out. My daughter's octopus was, sadly, overcooked and tough, but still tasty, and the lemon roasted potatoes were excellent. My husband's roasted lamb did not seem like it was prepared as a roast, as there was no browning or roast] flavor, but seemed to have been prepared in a pressure cooker or slow cooker. I had ordered the Moussaka, and had high expectations, based on my memory of Milo's creamy, eggplant-filled, nicely seasoned Moussaka of my distant, long-ago previous visit. However, my portion of Moussaka had the oddest texture: rather mushy and grainy. The well-seasoned, savory tasting ground beef of my memories had now been transformed into a rather average-tasting ground beef mixture that would have been equally at home in a sloppy joe. And I could not find an eggplant in the casserole at all ... well, maybe it had somehow been reduced to such mushiness that it lost it's eggplant quality, but I could swear that it was missing. It was all edible food, though, but not up to our expectations. I hate to give any place a lowly, two-star review. I had hoped for much more, because there is so much about Milo's to raise one's hopes: it's not a big chain, but locally, family-run; it has an appealing and timeless Mediterranean decor; and the menu offers many interesting Greek choices. A few small changes would be an upgrade: better bread, some additional staff and a few space heaters would be a good start. Milo's is the type of restaurant that I would love to support, but I've read enough reviews with similar observations that I am unlikely to return.

It was a really nice spot for a special night... cozy, welcoming, and not overly loud. We enjoyed everything we ordered, but the saganaki was definitely the standout. Beyond the presentation, the cheese itself was excellent... crisp on the outside, warm and soft inside, and really well seasoned. Easily something I'd come back for. The mango ginger spritz was light and refreshing, not too sweet, the Australian lamb chops were cooked nicely, tender, and full of flavor without being overly heavy. Really friendly server who is a 3rd generation family member that owns the restaurant. Told him I had lived in Greece 1971-1974. He had visited Greece several times, so we traded Greece stories. Nice! Greek Metaxa 7-star (years aged, 80 proof) brandy is so expensive (now: US$35/750mL imported, $21-32 in Greece; 1974: $7-10), they use Russian brandy for the saganaki (sad, I know! Greece inflation has varied from -4.6 (2013) to +26.6% (1974), averaging 7.8%/yr, with cumulative increase 1974-2026 of 6.75x, so a 3x increase in the price of Metaxa 7-star seems like a deal!). I mentioned to the server that the Horiatiki salad was the best I've had since living Greece! Greek restaurants where I'm from (San Diego, California) use Roma tomato, small feta crumbles (so little feta it's just "feh", not imported from Greece), no oregano, cheap olive oil. Five minute walk from Chester station on line 2 of the subway ("TTC"). Does not take reservations. Not wheelchair accessible.
