I needed to replace a drain pump on my Whirlpool washer. I didn't purchase the pump from OCAP, but I was having problems replacing or rigging the electrical connection. I walked in and was fortunate to get Manny as my customer service rep. He understood immediately the problem that I'm sure I was not explaining very well. He said to give him a few minutes to look and see what he could come up with and low and behold....a workable solution. He created some wire connections and even provided the nuts to attach the wires. I asked him what the charge would be and he said zero. But my review is not just the freebie he provided, it was Manny's knowledge and above and beyond to create a solution even though it took a bit of time to do. I'm not a professional contractor, just a homeowner that tries to keep my appliances working to keep from adding to the landfills. Great place!! read more

The staff here are friendly, welcoming and SUPER helpful. They took a lot of time with me to help identify the proper circuit board for an expensive/high end microwave oven I was wanting to repair (dealing with error code.) The confusion was on the manufacturer's end; publishing multiple different part numbers for the same circuit board! In the end, after much scrutiny we were able to come up with the proper fit. WOW... I would have never worked by way thru it without help... and returning circuit boards and similar parts is dicey as the business cannot determine whats a good board vs a bad one... so just grabbing a board to see if it fits... was not an option here. These folks are the best, I've come several times in the past for capacitors for an a/c, washer parts and other things. The staff is super knowledgable and nice. Last week during the coronavirus shut down I stopped by to pick up a fuse for a dryer. I had not anticipated that I was supposed to call ahead and place the order, pay for it and then the guys run it out to your car with a receipt for you to sign. I saw a sign on the door and was headed back to my car to call it in and one of the employees saw me and asked if I had been helped. I told him no and he told me what the normal procedure is during the pandemic and I understood, he saw the part and said wait a second and ran inside. He came out in a minute before I could look up the number and handed me the part and told me to pay it forward. I was blown away. They are a small business and definitely rely on ordinary folks and repairmen, please visit them and give them your business. But during the shutdown, call ahead first. That value might be the quality of an item, an experience, or in bringing happiness to others - whatever it is - I look for value, and I hate to waste money - one of the things that attracted me to Yelp in the first place! It's also a reason why I'm an avid DIY'er. If you've been to my house, or other properties I own, you'll see the sweat equity - it enables me to have some cool toys! Actually, I wasn't very handy when I first bought my house - It developed watching contractors and servicemen, seeing what they were doing, and thinking "I could have done that". I still have hope for Chris! Many appliance parts are easily replaceable - plenty DIY diagnosis and "how to" info is easily available online. It's not always the answer, but I've repaired my dryer, furnace, pool heater, garbage disposal, dishwasher, and now my refrigerator. As the owner of an appliance - I have deemed myself "Authorized Personnel" - I'm also authorized to take a sledge hammer or sawz-all to the item if I want to - so don't tell me I'm not authorized to look behind some sort of panel! In this case, my Kenmore garage full refrigerator (no freezer) started freezing things - no matter what the temperature controller was set at - it just kept running - colder and colder. After an unplug - shutdown and defrost had no effect, it had to be the temperature control. Kenmore repair service centers did not have the part but could ship it in a few business days. I wanted to take care of this right away - Yelp searching produced OCAP Supply. Didn't have the part in stock, but would have it the next day - asked them if they knew anywhere that might have it for immediate pick up, they gave me a number to another supplier - always appreciated. The other supplier did not have it in stock - so I ordered from OCAP. As promised it was in the next day - they left a message in the afternoon that it was ready. The part was an exact match of what I took out of my refrigerator - it was simply plugging in a few wires, snapping the part into place, and couple of screws. Done - works perfectly - plenty of room for the jello shot trays at Super Bowl! OCAP is in an industrial area, and is a pro shop style place - small retail area, most of the items are from the parts counter staffed by several guys. I overheard them giving advice to another DIY'er about how to install his part. I experienced friendly service on the phone and in the shop. Other positives: open till 5:30 weekdays - was able to make it after work - and open on Saturday. Reading through the other reviews it seems that my good experience is the norm. Cost for the part I needed was $40 - comparable to what I could find elsewhere online, but no shipping and handling. This local company has been in business since 1965! With the average service call costing 75 - 125 dollars, and hourly service work about the same - it's easy to to see how many people (like me) have saved money. A great resource to have available, I'm sure (unfortunately) I'll be back someday!! read more

*** THE appliance parts place! (Garden Grove) *** O.C.A.P. is the ultimate go-to place for appliance parts! I've been here a few times and the staff have ALWAYS been Super helpful and friendly! My dryer has gone out twice. Each time I came here for the parts. I seriously don't know anything about fixing an appliance. I literally stood in front of the machine wondering... Soooo, where are the screws to take this thing apart? Once it was apart I stared at it for a while and still had no clue what I was even looking at. I felt like the guy with car troubles on the side of the road with his hood up and staring at the engine, also not having a clue what to do :-) ha ha ha... I ended up referring to the university of YouTube and got a direction to start working. It took me two trips back over two days to finally get it working! Each day after work I'd do a little troubleshooting, but just ran out of time or daylight. I'll just say, I'm glad I didn't have to buy another dryer. Did a google search and found the number for Ocap. Called and a real person answered the phone. Answerer: Hello?? Me: Ummm. Is this an appliance repair place? Answerer: Yes. It is. Came into purchased a light bulb for my fridge, 4 counter guys standing, one guy assisting a gentleman, 3 other guys pretending to be busy, when I asked if someone was going to help, a guy walked up, took the item out of my hand and said he wasn't not going to sell me the item! Our old dryer died. I thought we would have to buy a new one. I didn't want a new one. Didn't want to spend the money and they no longer last as long as the old ones due to all of the technology. I called them. They told me the 3 different areas that they felt could be wrong w it. They were happy to test the parts for me if I brought them in. If I needed to replace 3 main parts it would of been under $100. But in the end, I just needed to replace a belt. Grand total of $15. So much nicer then spending $$$$ for a new dryer. I have a ten-year-old Kitchen Aid dishwasher. The middle rack was beginning to actually disintegrate in places, rusting and breaking apart. I took pictures and what information I could to OCAP. They ordered one rack which wasn't correct. I returned it, and we went through pictures on the internet together. I saw one on ebay which was the one. The very nice gentleman who was helping me said he'd work on it. He did indeed, and I picked it up in about a week. I had it installed yesterday, and it's perfect. I've only had to come here 3 times in the 10 years or so I was aware this place existed, never left empty-handed. I like that I don't get a vibe from the staff since I'm not an apt manager ordering 100 toilets, not sure I've ever been treated differently over buying one $6 part. The last time I needed them & they were there, they saved Thanksgiving when the oven igniter blew on Wed. morning. They were cheaper than any place I could Google, and the next one was even cheaper; 1/2 price when I realized why the 1st one went DOA. Dude must have seen 'me' 1000 times before, which must have made him a gracious teacher. My only regret is not going in often enough to establish a rapport and learn everyone's names, but it's always been a friendly experience for me. I am amazed I am the first person to rate OCAP, they have been in business since 1965, and in the same location for as long as I can remember, right opposite the main Post Office in Garden Grove. OCAP stands for Orange County Appliance Parts, and this is exactly what they sell. Need a new ice maker for a Kenmore fridge, they will have it. How about a new fan for an AC unit, yes again. They even had the heating coil for a very old Montgomery Ward dish washer. They also have all the little bits and pieces that seem to break when you take an appliance apart, and you have no idea what they are, and how get to get a replacement. But the biggest thing they have, is advice. This is a place where people in the trade buy their parts, which is normally not a good place for the home diy'er to go, well at least to get good service, but OCAP is different. If you go in there and ask, they don't treat you like an idiot, they will open a box and show your the parts, show you the tricks to installing them, and yes, warn you if they think you are out of your depth. I recently bought an AC contactor and although the counter guy was happy to sell me the part, and explain the differences between it and the old one I was replacing, he was also very explicit in explaining I was messing with 220 volts and 30 amps, and that if I wasn't comfortable to call a professional. Finally, they are open on a Saturday, which is huge, because it always seems that appliances break on the weekend. Give them a try, I have yet to stump them with the parts I need, and even if they have to order them in, it only takes a couple of days. read more

This is the second time I went to OCAP for help in parts for my home appliance repairs. Both times, the staff was helpful with either tips or advice. Both times, they had the specific little gizmos I needed to get my appliances going. Plus their prices were cheaper than the other OC parts houses I called. Not to mention, many of the so-called "local" stores were online operations where I had to order the parts and wait - tell that to my wife when the dryer has just gone out. :-) I've very happy with their old-school approach and I wish them continued success! These guys are great. I'm so glad I found them. I had a part go out on my washer. I called a couple repair places to get a quote and nobody would give me a quote they would only schedule a service call with a fee. I'm not a big DIY guy but was tired of paying expensive fees. I called and I got Vicky on the phone told her my problem, Gave her my washing machine model number. She gave me a part number I went down and picked it up at a great price and repaired it myself and now everything is back to normal. 3 STARS, but I do recommend them:) Contactors, Handymans, and DIY'ers place to go if HD or Lowes does not have it. They have a wide variety of stock in terms of finding that weird part you need for your appliances. Heck they even have a few things that can be used for the AC unit, which is very useful on hot days. This and another place in North OC are my stops since other charge more or only work within the commercial industry. I only give this place a 3 Star because they are hit or miss on their phone CS and some of their front desk staff sway you on the wrong side. Which means you get the part but it's not the exact size so it causes more issues to install? Which brings me to the other star deduction is that they have a large stock but not a variety of types/styles per item. I'm aware that no store can carry every style, but it would be nice and not giving the..."it's the same and It'll work" line. Again, this place is a good place to go if you know what you want. Most of their staff are very knowledgeable and their parts are good. Downfall is that it's always busy and the parking is very limited. I needed a pulley for my dryer. I took in my old part and they assembled a new pulley onto it perfectly. My customer service representative, Brian, gave me 110 percent of perfect customer service which I had never experienced in using my old part and worked with it so diligently for at least 30 minutes. If you ever need any spare parts for any of the major appliances this is the place to go. I had the best experience with a salesperson with the highest competency ever. I needed a Whirlpool washing machine part after the washer wouldn't go into the spin cycle anymore. Like a good DIY person, I wrote down the machine model number, serial number, the part description as close as possible to what I saw broken. I walked into OCAP and handed my piece of paper to this rather young guy behind the counter. He glanced at the paper for not even a second, walked into the stock room, returned within 10 seconds with the exact part I was looking for. And the price was totally less than what I expected. By my experience with this place recently and a number of times I dealt with them years ago, this place deserves five stars. We tried YouTube U to try and figure out what the problem was with my elderly parents elderly dryer (it's old enough to drink) The online help site said it was one of two parts we took them out and into OCPA and they tested them, one was fine and the other was offspec but had nothing to do with the problem we had. One of the counter people suggested maybe the belt was broken and another counter person said something about the door switch. We went home with a belt and one replacement for the offspec part . When I was back at the house and had the bottom apart to put the two parts back in and check the belt (which was OK) I looked up and saw that the little lever that actuates the door switch was bent back and when I pulled lightly on it, it broke off. Since I had to work the next day they were open my parents caregiver/house manager took the switch in to OCAP. It tested fine so they just sold her the bracket and lever to actuate the switch for four dollars with a discount and refunded the belt no problem. From what I can tell OCPA has succeeded in this business for years by being very friendly and helpful. There was zero tech speak language barrier or attitude and they didn't try and make us feel stupid. They are girl-friendly and had a very knowledgeable woman behind the counter. I think it's unfortunate that if I hadn't had some prior experience with OCAP or I hadn't read all the yelp reviews I might've been put off by the number of stars. I find it interesting that seems like the reviewers either really love this place or hated it. I think the one star reviews are more indicative of the reviewers lack of understanding of the Industry and the problems inherent in selling appliance parts to the public then an actual problem with the store. The last time I was in there I basically had three people assisting me who were all very helpful. And conclusion I think it's probably best just to take the part off and take it to them . read more

I was looking for an HVAC part and needed it before the heatwave started since all the HVAC repair folks where completely booked. The prices were reasonable. Most of the parts I found on Amazon did not offer Prime and would take forever to ship so it was worth the $5 dollar difference. The brand was also better than the generic brands found online.
