We waited forever to go snowboarding on Ober Mountain because of how "awesome" it is. We spoke to many people before buying the tickets in advance per them "buy now because it will sell out". We asked about the snow conditions because we wanted the mountain not the kiddie slopes and were responded with "there is already snow on the mountain and we have blowers that will keep it filled". We purchased tickets on the faith of what we were told just to get there and there be no snow. 2 kiddie slopes and ice pretty much everywhere. The blowers didn't even turn on until after 2pm which I'm sure is set for certain conditions but after spending $500 for a day of snowboarding it was a disgrace and total waste of money. I didn't even stay on the slopes it was that bad. Then the lines to the lift is so unorganized that everyone was jumping to the front and the honest ones were having to wait twice the amount of time. My kid that has been before said this is the worst mountain we have gone to by far and he doesn't want to ever come back. (I told him the actual mountain wasn't open so it wasn't a fair assessment). Other kid that never has been said that he doesn't understand why we even like snowboarding because this was miserable with everyone at the same curve falling and staying. The patrol were just skiing and not helping people. Multiple times I would stop and help beginners that had fallen just so they could get out of the main path. Never once saw the patrol help a single person and there were a lot of chances. To be clear the 2 stars is not because the lack of snow (this is uncontrollable) it is for the lack of information given when we called or what I believe to be lies just to purchase a non refundable ticket.

The gondola ride is nice but overpriced, especially since one has to pay to park as well. It is not very long either. There is little free to do up top, which makes the price sting even more. The most entertaining thing we saw up there was many determined little kids trying to ring the bell on the rock wall.

The park is fun for all ages, from rock climbing to Zip Lining. The operators of each ride were very helpful and patient with us. My only drawback would be the mountain coaster. It stalled on us and we had to wait for maintenance to see what the problem was.

Ober Mountain is good for what it is, but I wouldn't call it mind-blowing. Still, I'd recommend it, especially for families looking for winter activities. Our family of six had a fun day overall. If you go, make sure to buy the wristband online and book tubing/skiing reservations well in advance. If you're visiting around Christmas, plan your activities no later than 11 a.m. because the aerial tram lines get ridiculously long, wrapping around the building later in the day. Also, skip driving up the mountain--parking fills up quickly, and you'll likely have to turn back. Instead, park in Gatlinburg and take the tram up, and give yourself at least 2 hours to reach the top. We visited on Christmas Day and had pre-booked tubing, which was a lifesaver since it was sold out. Skiing was the same--it was booked out until late February by the time we arrived. The snow area is perfect for little ones, and tubing was a hit with the whole family. Overall, it's a solid option for some winter fun if you're visiting the Gatlinburg area!

As a content creator here in Gatlinburg, The Gatlinburg Hussey I absolutely love Ober Mountain..Its the only ski resort in Tennessee too ..I tell all of my subscribers to go there when they're here in the Smokies

If you are geared to find family friendly fun Ober Mountain is your place. They offer $49 wristbands that include a variety of activities which includes the aerial tram, snow tubing, rock climbing, mountain coaster, ice skating, corn hole, bumper boats, nature preserve and so much more! Lines can get long. Arrive early. There is also a $10 parking fee. It has a gift shop and cafe as well.

The Wildlife Habitat is sick. I understand the animals are rescues and cannot care for themselves in the wild, but the pits in the ground they had these babies in were so small and solid rock. The one bear in the video proceeded to circle his cage in the same path for hours. The "Nocturnal Den" was even sadder. They had 3 large turtles in one 40 gallon tank. The tank wasn't big enough for one of the turtles. Someone needs to help these animals ASAP!

Ober Mountain in March? Chef's kiss. The perfect balance of crisp mountain air, just enough people to feel lively, but none of the overwhelming winter chaos. While I can only imagine this place is packed during peak snow season, our visit was a smooth ride--except, of course, when we were falling on the ice skating rink. Torturous fun, but the kind that brings the family together. The snow tubing? WORTH IT. An extra $20 per person stung a bit, but once we were flying down the slopes, all was forgiven. The mountain coaster, on the other hand? Let's just say patience was a virtue we didn't know we needed. The line was already long when we joined, and when we reached a sign that said, "60 minutes from this point," we knew we were in it for the long haul. We made it, but whew, brace yourself. The tram, though? 10/10 experience. The employees running it were full of energy, good vibes, and that classic Tennessee charm that makes you feel right at home. Overall, Ober Mountain was a blast--fun, scenic, and definitely a spot worth checking off your bucket list. Would I come back? Absolutely. Just maybe not on a peak weekend! Both experiences were a little pricey, but honestly, when you're in the heart of the Smokies, that's the name of the game. Go, have fun, make the memories, and don't look back!

    Brian H.

Everything was excellent except the process and ease of redeeming tickets purchased online to get wristbands. I recommend the hot chocolate at the fudge shop. Snow tubing is for 1.5 hour sessions which goes pretty quick. That is enough time for about 3-4 runs down the mountain. Wonderful resort to make memories with family. 5 stars!

Parking was easy and not too long of a walk to the check-in. There is one restaurant and you can see my separate review for that. We did tubing the first day and skied the second day. My pro tip is to make a group reservation, which requires a minimum of 10 people. Otherwise, it is first come first served and they sold out both days we were there by the time we arrived at 9:30am. Having a group reservation also lets you skip the line to pick up your equipment as they have it all set out for you in a room that is shared with other groups where you can change and keep your stuff. The tubing was awesome! There were 5 lanes, with varying speeds and they let us tie up to 4 people together and go down some of the slower lanes. There was very little waiting and the tubes were fast! The magic carpet ride up was relaxing. Skiing on the other hand, was not as great. There is only one lift and one run. At least you don't have to worry about merging. It is all man-made snow and the lifts are slow. They were letting people go solo and with only 2 people to a 4 person chair with a huge line. The rental equipment was dated, but at least it was not expensive. This would be fine for any beginners.

Disclaimer: This 4 star review is for a very specific use case and your mileage may vary. I've…read morefound this to be an excellent place to bring new people who have never skied and kids their first times learning. If you are an experienced (even intermediate) this could easily be a 1 star experience. Highlights: It is a quick drive from Atlanta (~2.5hrs) it is pretty cheap (very helpful for new people or kids who might not get a full day or enjoy the more expensive slopes elsewhere). We needed up paying about 250-275 for lift tickets and equipment for 2 adults and 1 kid (we had an amenity pass). Lodging in the area wasn't terribly expensive. Slopes: The area is small, there is one bunny hill with a treadmill style lift, then one ski hill with a ski lift. The ski hill might be a blue (maybe a little easier). It is narrow with trees on both sides and with a left turn going into a steeper down hill. Check in: My advice is go early on Friday (we checked in at 1) and the line was short and getting equipment was easy. We got a multi day pass so we could keep the equipment and didn't need to check in Saturday. The set up they had seems like they were prepped for long lines which with the amount of staff and system they had could eat most of the day waiting. Bunny slopes: nice wide casual slop easy for beginners. The treadmill lift was nice but slow. Main slope: with lots of new people it can get crowded and depending on the weather could be icy. The line for the lift can get long and would not be surprised if you ended up waiting in line or on the lift 3x longer than you skied. Advice: check the webcam to see how long the lines are! We went early then left for lunch and nap when it got busy. Slope side tavern: surprisingly nice stop to get food and drinks. Dose of hot chocolate is helpful for the little ones during a break. Tubing: There is a tubing option onsite, get tickets in advance it may sell out early.

One of two cabins we booked for our ski trip was through Scenic Wolf Resort (at Wolf Ridge)…read more Scenic Wolf Resort is a collection of mountain cabins located at Wolf Ridge. I'm not sure of the construction date of the cabins, but they all look relatively new. The development is a bit "cookie-cutter" as almost all the cabins look the same. Most, if not all, seemed to have multiple balconies with hot tubs and nice mountain views. We stayed in Cabin #121, which was a 3-bed, 2.5-bath unit. The cabin was clean and in great condition. It was nicely furnished and decorated. The couches and beds were comfortable and the kitchen was nice. Thermostat worked well as did the Internet Wi-Fi. Gas fireplace. Several board games, including Catch Phrase, were provided. Downstairs, in the unfinished basement, there was an air hockey table, pool table, and dart board. Then, of course, there was the covered outdoor hot tub, which several of us made good use of after a long day of skiiing. Probably my favorite part of the cabin, though, was TVs in almost every room and each had cable. My only significant complaint is that the cell phone service (for most major providers) was very bad. Most of the time, we had no signal. My other complaints are minor and mostly inconsequential. For example, the hot tub could have been hotter (we couldn't get it to go over 99 degrees). The dart board was missing darts and the provided DVD collection was a bit weak. Overall, however, I was pleased with our cabin and had a very good stay. Check-in and check-out were both a breeze. We checked in late and checked out late. This meant we never saw a single person at the Welcome Center. Instead, we used the drop boxes located outside the Welcome Center to pick up and return the key and forms. Pricing for the cabin was reasonable and the owner was accommodating to our late checkout time. The cabins are located near the top of a mountain, the base of which starts at Puncheon Fork Rd. The base to the top is a slow and windy 8-minute drive. The entire path is paved. If there is no inclement weather (snow/ice), a two-wheel drive car is fine. However, if there *is* inclement weather, a four-wheel drive car is necessary. In order to get to the Wolf Ridge Ski Resort, we had to drive down the mountain and back up another way. The drive from cabin to ski resort was about 15 minutes. Scenic Wolf Resort has a "lodge" though we never ventured inside to see what it offers. It looked dead the entire time we were there. There was also a heated, glass-enclosed, indoor swimming pool with water slide.

The cabin at Wolf Creek was modern and nice. The cabin was large and we were able to fit 7 people no problem. The beds were comfortable; we had no trouble sleeping. Most bedrooms had their own TV with cable. They also had extra bed sheets in the closet. In the living room, we had a gas-log fireplace. That's cool because we didn't need to mess with getting firewood or need to start a fire. They also had a ton of DVDs and board games for our entertainment. The kitchen was fully stocked with utensils, pots, pans, bowls, plates, cups etc. The kitchen was quite nice. It provided lots of counter space to allow many cooks in the kitchen. The basement was unfinished though. It kind of took away from the whole experience. I think if they finished the basement, it would add a lot of value to the entire cabin. The basement had an air-hockey table, pool table, hot tub, and a dart board. However, since it was so cold in the basement and was unfinished, nobody wanted to go down there to play any of the games. Their WiFi was great. It was fast and had no trouble connecting. There is no cell service at our cabin. They do have a landline available in the master bedroom. So if you have to make an emergency call, you can use the landline. The bathrooms didn't have enough shampoos, soaps, or enough towels. I don't know if extra towels can be provided, but I wished they had more. If you want to come here, make sure to go to weather.com and check for ice or snow. You will need snow chains if you want to come here during snowy, icy times.

Once you leave Puncheon Fork for the cabin, the roads are not paved. Instead, they are gravel all the way. While the cabin is not located too far from the road, if there is snow or ice on the ground, a four-wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended. Almost necessary, I would say. The cabin was very nice. It was a log cabin that looked fairly new. The cabin slept 12 people and, for the most part, was spacious. The kitchens and bathrooms were impressive from the sinks to the countertops to the appliances. Very modern. Most rooms slept two, although there was one room with three sets of bunk beds (to sleep six, military barracks style). The master bedroom bath had a small Jacuzzi. The master bedroom also had a TV and DVD player and there was another small one downstairs. The main living room/kitchen area was great for our large group. We had difficulty getting the fire in the fireplace to stick. It was a traditional fireplace as opposed to the convenient gas fireplace we had in our other cabin at Scenic Wolf Resort. I liked the open kitchen with island counter and picnic table/bench-style seating for community meals. The stairs to the top led to a game room with pool table and poker table. There wasn't a whole lot of room to operate upstairs in the "game room" (e.g. the short spaces made many pool shots awkward). However, it sufficed. I did like how we could look down into the living room and kitchen from the game room. The place as a whole was decorated quite nicely and definitely got us in mountain vacation mode. Wi-Fi speed was excellent and there was cell phone service (the same cannot be said at the top of the mountain). Cabin price was reasonable. We've gone two years in a row (2024 and 2025) and even between the years it seems that there is more to offer. Plan to be there all day, especially if you have small children. There is so much for them to do, climb, and explore which is nice so you can enjoy your drink while they play. All the kids areas are secure too so you won't lose them or worry about them falling down the mountain. Our kids LOVE the slide and birdhouse climbing area. There's a stage for live entertainment close by which we really enjoyed. Lots of food options all over however we really enjoy the lookout mountain restaurant and you have to get ice cream for dessert afterwards. Transportation up the mountain is either by their Ridge Rambler (open bus with no windows so dress accordingly) or the skyline with both open and closed cars (runs really slowly and usually a LONG line). I highly recommend purchasing your tickets online in advance because even though that option is available, many do not opt for it and would rather stand in a VERY LONG line to purchase tickets and then get in line for the skyline. If you purchase in advance and opt to ride the bus like we do, wait time is very minimal and you can bypass most of the line which is a huge plus. (also, the waiting area is by 2 private restrooms in case you need to go before boarding). Even though it's busy, everything is so spread out that it's not crowded which is super nice. Plan to take a backpack to carry items as you will stay on the mountain and it's not easy to go back and forth to the car (could but will take time), plus, it's nice to have in case it's chilly and hot later so you can store clothing layers. Currently, Anakeesta is closed until March for remodels and they've shared ideas and things to come which all look like great additions. We can't wait to go again this fall 2026 to enjoy all the new amenities. Highly recommend for all ages!
