If you truly want to experience the Smoky Mountains, then you need to ride the Alpine coaster, which we were told is the longest mountain coaster in the country. There is nothing like climbing the mountain in a single car, by yourself, and then reaching the top and dropping down the other side at speeds up to 35 miles an hour, would the only thing to slow you down is a hand break you pull back.

The beginning, first of five or so hills the coaster pulls you up before you begin your descent.

What a ride! Great staff all around! It took about 45 minutes to get to the front. It was worth the wait. A nighttime ride was thrilling with lights lining the tracks of the coaster. My mom and I rode together and the two coaster staff were very helpful when it was my mom's turn to climb in coaster car. You climb over 3-4 hills, seems steep as it pulls you until you reach top where there's a sign to tell u to take control. Apparently this is the longest downhill ride in the United States, with over 1 mile of track. We both thoroughly enjoyed the twist n turns of the coaster, using the levers you have control to your speed upto maximum allowed without getting too close to rider in front of you. It lasted long enough, depending on your speed 6-8 mins maybe. At the end when you're ride has concluded another staff member is there to greet you and thank you for riding. She was very nice and helpful as we exited. The picture taken from the ride was too blurry but the souvenir shirt suffices. Checkout Groupon and re-riding options in same day.

Had a blast Family friendly So much fun roller coaster wasn't crazy fast but enough to keep my heart racing I would recommend 10/10 if your doing a group i recommend using Groupon there's great deals like 20 for two riders it saves you a lot

We initially planned to experience this at night, but the line was long and moving slowly, so we came back the next day. Although the line was still long, it moved much faster, and we waited about 30-35 minutes. You aren't allowed to have your phone -- if you do be sure to put it away in your pocket so it is not seen. This was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience--flying through the mountain on a roller coaster--wow!

We had a great time. The ride was more fun than scary. I was able to ride twice, the lines weren't long at all and it was a Sunday.

Saw this unique type of Alpine coaster & it looked like fun, Oh boy, it sure was. Here a few tips to better enjoy your ride. 1- Each person get your own alpine cart, so you can fully control your own speed & braking point nerves, down the long & fast turns. 2- Make sure you don't get behind or loaded into an alpine cart of a person who will slow down your ride experience by them being scared & staying on the brakes going down hill. I loaded in the cart & asked the attendant for lots of space 150' between me & the alpine cart in front of me, so they wouldn't slow my downhill ride. 3- Check local tourism guide for discount coupons. 4- Careful not to loose your sunglasses or cell phone on this jarring fun ride.

We rode this coaster for the first time in August 2024 and it was our number 1. After riding again this year, it's still at the top of our list, however it does seem a little different this time. It felt like automatic braking in certain areas when I had the handles all the way forward. Still a really great ride, long lift hill so also a long trip down. Smooth enough ride. We had no wait at all, but we could've just been lucky for going at the time we did, I've seen this place pretty packed. It's off the main strip of pigeon forge, but worth going out of your way for! They do have fall/Halloween decor out right now too which is nice.

    Great ride!

What a beautiful ride! Highly recommend checking this one out, at night looks very very busy we plan on going back though soon.

This mountain coaster was so much fun!! I'm scared of heights, but this was a blast. Definitely enough thrill & the speed was just right. I even found myself slowing down more than expected. Appropriate for guests of all heart healthy ages. Beautiful view of the mountains at the top too.

Purchased a groupon for this coaster, and if I could give the coaster 6 stars for the experience. The coaster track itself is the longest in the country, and the ride itself is 7 to 8 minutes. The coaster offers you a choice of single, or double seaters. Scenic, sublime beautiful view along the ride. If you hang on to your ticket at purchase, same day rides for $10 return. This coaster offers night rides, does your photo, and has a gift shop. My boyfriend and I visited this attraction, on the way to Pidegon Forge.

Ask the Community - Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster

    How long is the ride?

    Less than four minutes

    When is the busiest time?

Once it gets dark it is much busier. It's worth going at night though.

How fast does this go? some people look like they're moving fast and others look like they are not?

I agree with Steve. There are breaks you hold down and if released, slow you down. Top speed I would say is about 35-40, without breaks. Fun ride though around corners etc

There's a great mix of shops, restaurants, attractions, entertainment, and plenty of colorful details that make it an enjoyable place to explore. I visited during the fall, and I especially loved all of the seasonal touches. Pumpkins, mums, hay bales, a vintage tractor, and other autumn decorations made the entire area feel festive and gave me plenty of fun photo opportunities. Of course, the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel is the landmark you can't miss. Riding it gives you a completely different perspective of Pigeon Forge and the surrounding area, and the enclosed gondolas make for a comfortable ride. My biggest hesitation is the price. Since you pay per person, taking an entire family up in one gondola can become expensive pretty quickly. Overall, The Island is a fun stop whether you want to ride attractions, grab something to eat, shop, people-watch, or simply walk around and enjoy the atmosphere. Even if you don't ride the wheel, it makes a pretty spectacular backdrop! Four stars from me--fun, photogenic, and definitely worth exploring, but some of the attractions can make a family visit pricey.

I'm also a cancer patient who doesn't know how many vacations that she has left in this lifetime. So, when someone offered us a chance to take this trip, we were over the moon and jumped at the chance. So writing this review is quite painful. I've always heard that Dollywood employees are the best so I was expecting kindness and helpfulness, but I was mostly disappointed. I want to start this review by saying that I could not do what the employees at Dollywood do all day in the blistering heat. They have to deal with people all day long and people can be unpleasant on a good day and vicious on a bad day. I deal with people in my job and it can be difficult. I know and I sympathize. It started when I had to rent a mobility scooter. Trust me, I hated having to rent that blasted thing, but I had a cancer treatment two days before our visit and my treatment can zap the energy right out of me. So, I went to rent a scooter even though I was embarrassed to have to do so. The young lady behind the counter was unfriendly and unprofessional. I was surprised really by her complete lack of kindness. She never once even cracked a smile and her behavior at my questions was rude. I was also disappointed at the employees lack of help when you asked for directions. We only had a day in the park and we had some specific things that we wanted to accomplish. When asked for directions, the employees were short with me and seemed annoyed that we even asked. I ceased asking employees and began asking other park goers. They were kind and helpful. Then there was the candy store near the train depot. The gentleman behind the candy counter was amazing. He was friendly and encouraging. Just when I thought we wouldn't find any employees up to park standards, he showed up and with his sunny disposition really brought a bright spot to our day. Then, my hopes were instantly dissolved when we checked out at the register. The female employee at the register was utterly rude and blatantly disrespectful. I was shocked and wanted to match her energy, but I didn't want to set a bad example for my kids. Also, the kindly gentleman was right next to her and I just didn't want to cause a scene. Also, the employees who deal with people with disabilities on the rides just treated us like we were an imposition. That's just not the way you treat people who are already struggling. Most people who have a disability would do anything to be normal. I know I would have loved to have not known this information about the employees who help people with disabilities. I believe some sensitivity training is in order for all the employees who come in contact with people with disabilities. We already feel like a burden and we HATE it. There were some employees that went above and beyond which is the reason I didn't give a one star review. I've already spoken of the gentleman at the candy store. He needs a raise. There was the sweet young man in the jewelry booth by the Mystery Mine ride. He was an absolute gem and was so helpful. There was a sweet young lady at Miss Lillian's where we ate. Two of my kiddos have severe food allergies. It makes it difficult to find food that won't land us in the ER. This young lady went out of her way to make sure that our food wasn't contaminated by allergens and she even found chips for my son who couldn't have the other side dishes. Bravo to her!!! She deserves a gold star, a crown, and a wand. Also the tram conductors were fabulous They were funny, kind, and helpful. Whoever trained those guys needs to train EVERYONE in the park. The employees involved in the Dollywood Express were another standout. They were kind, hilarious, entertaining, and really did help to make the day memorable especially for my son who has a popular YouTube channel about trains. It wasn't all bad, but there were enough disappointments to prompt me to write this review. I really hated writing something negative. I absolutely adore Dolly Parton. She is one of my heroes. I feel terrible for saying anything negative about something associated with her. I'm hoping this review will encourage some additional training for employees who deal with people with disabilities. Those people sitting in the mobility scooters could be on their last vacation and you could make all the difference.

My kids could have played for hours. It's multiple levels and really large. I felt that staff could have been more present in the children's area though. Definitely there are better options for families in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge areas that are more reasonable in costs and better value. Wanted to have a good time. Left disappointed.
