I read on a blog from an Austin mom that this was the place to go to let kids play and sip on a margarita. It was perfect for my five boys to play, get a drink from the bar, and have some delicious food. The tomato soup, with crisp bread and goat cheese spread, may be the best soup I have ever had. I liked the decor and atmosphere but our server Elian was a mess. She started off by spilling a whole glass of water on my mom and proceeded to clean it up like a toddler with our lap napkins. She did apologize once, but working in the food industry you know what it's like to make a mistake and you are inclined to do anything you can to make the customer happy. She did not offer any compensation although when we got the bill one drink was comped. There was no verbal/ proactive compensation to show her remorse. The food was pretty but not anything special. I had the sirloin and it was over salted and seemed to have no marinade. My mom had the meatloaf and felt the same. My dad did enjoy the chicken schnitzel but I do not feel the food matches the upscale atmosphere they attempted to create. Ambiance is excellent. We ate in the bar area. It was very nice. Cozy and comfortable. Service was superb. Hope was always checking on us, but not overdoing things. She was an excellent waitress. The food was very good. We started with an appetizer of the Steamed Mussels. One order is plenty to share. While it does come with two pieces of bread, Hope quickly advised that if we needed extra bread for dipping she would be happy to bring some to the table. This appetizer is enough for a meal in itself. It is worth ordering and enjoying. My partner enjoyed the STRAWBERRY FIELDS salad which was refreshing and looked excellent. It was quite filling. I had the CHICKEN SCHNITZEL. Since I had been in Germany before, I was excited to try this dish and it certainly met the expectation of a German meal. Delightfully cooked and tasted great. We routinely order to "go" food from Qoasthouse. Its always been pretty good so we decided to go in person. It was disappointing. It took a while to be seated and once seated, it took even longer (20 min) before we saw our server. The restaurant was a bid crowded, but very loud which makes it hard to hold conversations. Mediocre food and service. It took us about 20-30 mins for a table of 4 inside. There's outdoor seating with fans as well. Our water was brought out promptly but that was as good as it got. After taking our food order, our waitress was only seen three times after. We waited for a good hour before asking a manager for our food, which she brought out right away. In the time, I noticed our waitress standing at the podium chatting with the hostess and came to our table when she saw that someone else had brought us our food. She came back to collect our plates and again to bring the bill. We ordered the Mac and Cheese, Calamari, Forest Burger, chicken strips and fries from the kids menu, and the fish and chips. Very kind server and nice interior to restaurant but terrible experience dining on patio. We knew there would be children present as there was a playground. Unfortunately 3-4 of the children proceeded to yell "dirt fight!" and throw rocks at eachother right after we sat down. This was directly next to our table. After the rocks hitting us several times, we verbally asked them to stop. They did not stop. No parents came over. We finally just took our meal and drinks inside. The staff said this is common and were not surprised or apologetic. They seemed at a loss, with our server mentioning that children are often unattended, and rocks have been thrown at her and she can't do anything about it. A couple of visit's in now and it just keeps on getting better. I was more than surprised to see a comment from Stephanie C in her review that the food is basic. Merp. I am not so sure if she actually ate here. I haven't seen items such as a Curried Seafood Stew on the seasonal menu. Or appetizer's such as Pimento Deviled Eggs, Spatzel Mac & Cheese and Calamari Karaage. Mains include such diversity as Shepherds Pie, Braised Pork and even a Falafel Burger. Now they do have a Cheeseburger on the menu, and a Classic Pimento Cheese Burger, perhaps that is what she was referring too. At any rate, we have made our way through several items and have enjoyed them all. Fish and Chips, crispy, not over cooked flaky fish and sides. Big Ass Pretzel was great to share. Shepherd's pie brought back memories of my childhood growing up in London. Deviled Eggs, either you like them or not, if you do, get them. Broccoli pasta is a great veggie option, although I did add chicken to mine. The seasonal menu is a clever take, since it keeps the menu fresh and the soup of the day is going to be my next appetizer during this cold snap. Price point is absolutely in line with food of this caliber. Check out Carve or Shore also roughly in the neighborhood if you want to see some $$$. They do have a discounted price menu for drinks and HH food, which you could snarf up a pretzel, poutine and some sliders with a couple of frozen ritas for about 31 bucks. Yes, the rita's may seem small, but I would totally just stick to two, they pack a punch. Great to see the restaurant humming along, yes they have a playground for the kiddo's which is the only draw back for us to sit outside. But, no worries for us since we either find ourselves at the bar or in the lounge area with friends having a good ol time. So happy to have a restaurant at this location open again. read more

We stumbled over from a Yelp event at Keeper's because we needed a bite from not getting our hands on enough food. Check out the cocktails there, though! The bar staff here was super friendly and we were lucky enough to be there on pint Tuesday which ended us receiving a free pint glass. The food was incredible and the service was top notch. First of all, when you enter this place be sure to head left to get into Oasthouse. It can be confusing your first time here not knowing there are two restaurants in here. I was between the Harvest Burger and the Oasthouse Pimento Burger and decided to try the burger with the restaurant's name that is also on the main menu. Bad call. The only flavor I got out of the Oasthouse Pimento Burger was, well, pimento. It doesn't come with lettuce, tomato, onion as I saw another reviewer got confused about, but I knew that. It just tastes like cheese and a pretty good bun. It was such a lackluster burger. The fries closely mimicked my burger's disappointment. I'm not interested in getting burgers here again unless I know if I can change out the fries. However, someone in my party ordered the Pacific Steelhead Salmon and well they still talk about it so that's a saving grace. Drinks are good and well-rounded. Been here twice now -- once for HH and once for brunch. I think the space is great, both indoors and out, and I love how they included a little play area for the kids. They really did a good job with the space they have. Food and drinks have been OK, nothing too impressive. I got the burger for brunch which was smothered in pimento cheese. It was heavy and rich and really needed something to cut through the fat. Sadly, it didn't come with lettuce or tomato and our server never came back to check on us after our food was delivered. I think this place is decent and I'll probably come back for HH or with my child, but I'm not sure I would pay full price for what it is. read more

We came here for a Sunday brunch. We loved that it was not busy and no wait for a table. Another great thing is that they had a playground to entertain our 4 year old. We had the Avocado Toast and Smoked Salmon Benedict and the kiddo had the Nutella and Fresh Strawberry Sandwich. Everything tasted great. I think they could improve the Nutella sandwich though. It was very bready. May have been better if they toasted the bread more and pressed it or served it as an open face sandwich. A welcome neighborhood find, just off of Mopac's Slaughter exit. It's casual and trendy, with great service and ample seating (indoors and covered patio). There is also a playscape outside for kids! A great spot for families, groups, dates or whatever else. They have tons of drink options, including WINE ON TAP. I repeat, ON TAP. I don't know if it's science but it's makes it so much tastier. I enjoyed the Malborough Sauvignon Blanc enough to get a second glass. There is a variety of options and great happy hour deals. They also are great with accommodating allergies and dietary restrictions. The frier is shared but they offer great alternatives. Such a disappointment. I live off of wm cannon and mopac and do not venture south to slaughter and mopac often. Hahaha I miss north x northwest if that helps give you perspective on how often we visit this area. So tonight we decided to drive south and see what was new and were excited to see what took over the space! But oh my, how disappointing. Checked in for a table even though there was no line. We asked for inside seating and were told about 20 minutes so we decided to wait at the nice bar. 20 minutes later one of the hostesses comes and tries to seat us right behind where we were waiting for 20 minutes! Literally stand up turn around, take two steps and sit down. Mind you wr asked to be seated in the dining area when we arrived! We calmly declined and say we mind as well order at the bar where we are at already. We quickly place an order and nearly 30 minutes later we get served our burgers. Fries were tasty but the truffles fries were a disappointment. I ordered the black bean burger which was salty. I have never had a salty black bean burger so that was a new experience. The cheeseburger was just alright so half of it was sent back as my dining companion was over it. The bartendress was a professional. Aside from that, this place was a major letdown. We are never coming back. So if you are thinking of a quick burger and beer this is not the place for you. Did I mention it was not even packed? Smh come on south austin. You deserve better. Great addition to the south austin food scene. If District Grill is too crowded, SoCo h a little down Slaughter to here. Deviled eggs were amazing. Poutine had a southern twist. Wine on tap. Happy hour 4:00-6:00 Monday-Friday. I had the shepherds pie, but have big plans to return for the chicken schnitzel and desserts. It's in the same building as Keepers, but larger, with a playground. Also the same parking lot as Alamo Drafthouse South. Noise level is very loud so if you can take the test you might want to sit outside. Service was a little slow but gracious. read more

I've been to this place 4 different times, so I think I can give a fair review. To quickly sum it up, we love this place so much that we had our wedding reception dinner here. They have a great to excellent variety of gastro-pub menu. They aren't afraid to experiment and elevate the usual fair. Often with excellent results. They have one of the best fish & chips in our city. The beer batter flavor really comes through without over powering. The Tartar sauce is prepared with a superb balance. Shepherds pie made with real lamb braised in Porter. So so so delicious. The Reuben is another standout. The housemade pretzels are the best in the city and pair perfectly with the beer cheese. My wife loves the orecchiette broccoli pasta with a tender and moist chicken. They carry a respectable wine list with prices that won't shock the wallet. Local beers on tap for days. The cocktails change with the season and never disappoint. My only complaint is that they have too many good ones to choose from. Ha! They have an excellent variety of carefully crafted cocktails that appeal to every preference, using the freshest ingredients. And do yourself a favor: save room for dessert. Dennis Van is the pastry chef. That should be 'nuff said. But if you have any doubts, the proof is in the pudding.
