She warned me prior to going that the food sucked, but the view was incredible. She was right. The view is incredible, especially at sunset. Our table smelled like mildew - I'm assuming a mildewy rag was used to wipe it down. She ordered a pina colada & I ordered a mimosa. She said her pina colada tasted like ice and coconut milk. I didn't think you could mess up a mimosa, but it tasted like straight juice with a light splash of champagne. We also ordered some chips and salsa. Especially on the nights that they have live music. The bar tenders make good drinks. They are a bit over priced but with this kind of view it is expected. I really wish they just had a better menu. I'm going to give this shopping center the benefit of everyone's doubt, because there was a lot of thought and charm going into its construction and operation. Firstly, they have built this place on one of the most picturesque views in town. The overlook of Lake Travis belongs on a postcard. They have a special platform that jets out the side that's perfect for pictures with the lake behind you. The architect who created that really though about the visitors. It's truly great. Secondly, the parking game is strong. They not only have a quick park area, but they also have a parking garage. There is ample room for the crowd of cars that the restaurants draw. They also have a shuttle service for peak hours, which is just so nice. Lastly, I'll comment is that the quirk and weirdness is totally there and representative of Austin as a whole. They have children's toys imbedded in the concrete, record covers pasted on the walls, and so many colorful accents that it doesn't feel like a shopping center. It feels like a kitschy beach boardwalk. I love it! read more

It's decent. The views are nice. The staff is friendly, but not efficient. I would say the service is okay. The prices are fair. The food is good, but took a long time and brought our meals out at different times. The first person got their meal about 40 minutes before the last person did. They had a problem in the kitchen and didn't communicate with us, so I would say a little dysfunctional. The area has quite a lot of parking so I believe you'll be able to find parking in no time. The shopping center is really cutely designed! There are restaurants, coffee shops, and small little stores that you can explore for boots and other interesting items! We came here to watch the sunset. Next to the Oasis Restaurant, there is an AMAZING area where you can see an incredible view in the Austin area. You can see the lake with many beautiful homes right around them! The view itself is fabulous all the time but I definitely recommend coming here to catch the sunset. Great area to take pictures and definitely soak in what Austin has got to show! read more

This place is truly about the environment and atmosphere! Overlooking the lake and having the water view, makes this place so beautiful. Other than the views, this place is nothing too special. The food is average and there are so many tables in the restaurant, I can't imagine going during busy hours. What I do know is that I, and three business clients, thoroughly enjoyed our lunch earlier this week. Yea the chips tasted store bought but the salsa and queso was fine. Lunch orders ranged from Chicken fajitas, fish tacos, enchiladas, and a pile of veggie nachos for our veggie friend. Portions were bountiful, and tasty. Not a complaint in the group. Yea service was slow but to be fair there were a number of large parties present. The first time I ever visited Oasis was over 10 years ago, and before moving to Austin I would always visit if I was in town. So even though I've only been a handful of times, the experience has always been good and I look forward to going back and bringing family and friends that have never been. Like everyone has said, it's the view and location that makes it worth it. The wait and the food not so much. The food isn't bad, but it's not anything special either. And yes the wait has always been no less than 1 hour, and at most 2.5 hours in my experience. Don't come here starving. We usually walk around exploring the nearby shops. And now that the Oasis Brewing Company opened next door, we go there to have a drink, and you can watch the sunset from there as well. A lot of the bad reviews are usually associated with large parties, I think that's common with any restaurant. Large parties are difficult for one waiter to deal with, not making excuses for them, just trying to rationalize. All my visits have been with a party of 4 or 2, and the service has always been friendly and prompt. Even if they do make a mistake, they quickly correct it or offer to comp something. I don't even notice if it takes a while to get my food, I'm also there to enjoy the view and my company. It seems like a lot of tourists just want to get in to see the view, scarf down their food and leave. If that's the case then you will not enjoy this restaurant. Go next door and have a drink instead. The loaded nachos are really good. Order that as an appetizer while you wait for your entree, it's huge! read more

We planned to come here for our anniversary dinner. Obviously we underestimated how popular this place is during dinner time - we came around 6pm, and we had to wait in line for 10 minutes before we can get a number, then the average waiting time to get a table was estimated to be 2.5 hours... We figured by the time we could get a table, the sun would be long gone, so we had to changed the plan: we stayed here to walk around and find a spot on the stairs to watch the sunset. The plan turned out alright - we shared the gorgeous sunset with tons of people, it's so beautiful. Then we went to the reception - we were told that we'll need to wait 2 more hours... As we've already got the best part of Oasis, we gave up and went to some other place for dinner. There were parties, rehearsals, and other special events going on that day. This place would be great for wedding reception or special occasions. Lessons learnt: 1. If you're planning for a romantic dinner to watch sunset, make sure you arrive 2-3 hours in advance. 2. I live in Houston and I've always saw pictures of The Oasis online. I decided long ago that if I were ever in Lake Travis, I'd make sure to visit here. The opportunity finally arrived yesterday! As already stated, the view here is absolutely amazing. It's gorgeous, and pictures don't do it justice. The view is the absolutely best feature of the restaurant. I can't say the food was terrible. I decided from previous reviews that this probably isn't the place to try salmon, or something I'd expect to be done really well. I had the spicy chicken sandwich on a pretzel bun with fries, and it was pretty good! I also had a perfect margarita, which was okay. I visited the place at lunch time on a Tuesday, so I can't comment on their larger crowds. We were seated right away and In a great location. Our server also did a good job of checking on us and was not rude at all. I definitely recommend the Oasis, if for no other reason that the view! I can imagine how amazing it is at sunset. read more

I don't think this places deserves a "meh", but not sure about the "A-OK" either. Maybe more like 2 1/2 stars? Ok, so here's the skinny: I went here with the fam, while on a trip to Austin. It was recommended by a friend of my sister's. We did get warned beforehand about the lines/wait time, so we weren't caught off guard or anything. So, that is what you need to know about this place; if you go on a weekend, be prepared to wait up to 2 hours at least to get your table. When you arrive, there will likely be quite a long line out the door to even get up to the hostess. We arrived around 7pm on Saturday night, and it took us about 30 minutes to get up to the hostess. This means you will be standing outdoors during this entire time, so just keep this in mind. After the 30 mins, we got up there, gave our name, requested "first available" and got our pager. (Total wait time until we were sitting at our table, was indeed about an hour and a half from the time we first got in line outside.) After that, you are free to go inside, get drinks and roam around as you please. This place is absolutely massive and I do mean MASSIVE, with several hundred square feet of space, and multiple levels all throughout. We did not walk through the whole thing as I imagine it would take ages. One disparaging thing I will say about this place, is that they do not provide any designated "waiting" areas. So, you basically just have to walk around until you find a spot you can either sit or stand in and wait. If the table is empty, you can sit at it, but if they come to seat people there, you do have to move. It also SUPER busy, so be prepared for tons of people all over the place and lots of NOISE. It also took us quite a while to even get one drink each from the bar. I saw 3 different bars in the areas we went in, not sure if they have more throughout but I would imagine so. However, all the bars were super busy with only one bartender at each of them so that just seemed silly to me considering how busy they are. The drinks are very cool and tasty though, however, DEFINITELY on the expensive side (you can check out their drinks menu online). Now, on to the food: nothing special. Not horrible by any means, but definitely not special and not unlike food you could get at any number of places that you don't have to wait 2 hours for. And finally, the main reason people come here: THE VIEW. Yes, this is the one hugely redeeming factor of this place. The view of Lake Travis was absolutely stunning and the sunset we got to see was breathtakingly surreal and gorgeous. Pretty much the only other place I could compare it to, in terms of awesomeness and beauty, was when I was on top of a mountain in Switzerland. If you do ever go, you will understand why people want to experience this. When we finally left for the night, they offer a complimentary shuttle service back to your car (golf cart style). The guy works for tips, but it was nice to be driven back to our car, after we were tired from waiting and from our dinner. So, all in all, this place is worth it for the view, for sure, however not for the food. I would suggest going on a weeknight. I have no idea if the lines/wait are shorter, but I would hope so!!! Totally disorganized , there is no good system for seating , too much wait, poor service, staff are not very customer service oriented, they will make you feel they don't NEED your business, we did not get food service, waited and waited for a place to sit. We went to the Bar finally to get a drink. There was a live Band which we could not enjoy. One person from our group got sick due to heat, and long wait. If it's one thing I hate it's premium prices for substandard service. Let's state the obvious here, you're paying for location and not much else. I went today for a late lunch, and after a brief wait we were seated to a lovely table on one of the many patios overlooking the lake. On a clear spring Austin day, it really is stunning and indicative of Good Things. We were greeted by a waiter who was friendly enough, and we got our drinks and appetizer order in, and they came in a reasonable enough time. From there, it took twenty minutes to get the return visit to the table and take the balance of the order. Overall, we ordered iced teas, a Mojito, queso and chips, a turkey wrap and a cheese enchilada combo plate. We were at the table for fifty minutes before the food arrived; the Mojita never did. We figured it was posing for a picture on the side of a milk carton. The chips were OK, the salsa was actually quite good, fresh, and not overbearing with the jalapeños. The queso, while fortified with jalapeño slices and peppers, was clearly Velveeta based and less than memorable. And thus being Austin, where venues are made or busted on the nachos and their accompaniments, The Oasis should now better than this sin. Being 2 pm when we were seated, it was a good thing we had something to nosh on as it was 2:50pm when the entrees arrived. When the entrees arrived, they were cold. There is precious little that is less appetizing than cold cheese enchiladas. The careful presentation and composition couldn't be saved by the twin blocks of Colby enrobed in burkas that was the centerpiece of the plate. I ate only a portion of one of them and gave the rest to prosperity. Judging from my food and that of my companion, I would judge that the chefs and line cooks themselves actually know what they're doing, but the product of their labors suffer at the hands of the table service. The rice was tasty, cooked properly and well seasoned; the charro beans were a real surprise as they were some of the best anywhere, with plenty of large chunky vegetables, garlic, and pork and would have been a real star that other restaurants would just consider a side show in other places- but again, served cold, only garner middling marks. For the balance of the bill to come to $68 (includes tip) for two entrees, an inexpensive appetizer and a iced tea (Yes, we were charged for the Mojito that never did make an appearance) I would expect a while lot more. Extra observations: my companion said that the women's bathrooms were dirty and needed attention; my own trip showed a restroom that needed refurbishment. The toilets and sink were clean enough after a cursory fashion, bit the walls and dividers were distressed and needed thorough attention. Lastly, it seemed that there was a real industry growth potential for table bussers at the Oasis. As we were there during off hours (presumably), we walked in to a full house and watched most of them depart, leaving tables festooned with dirty dishes and napkins that seemed to multiply the longer we were there. At one point I counted a full dozen unbussed tables within close proximity to our own. I took a photo (included) but due to a narrow lense angle could only get three or for in any one picture; but I assure you the scene was ludicrous. read more

While in Austin for a business, my co-worker was determined to take us to this spot. We tried to go by there one night after 9pm and they were closed at 9 that night. We viewed the times if operation and decided to show up the next day. Man, you can't put a restaurant in a better stop. This joint has like a 15 level patio, looking over Lake Travis. Can you imagine that view during sun rise? Just know that I did snap a few pictures. I hear that it can get pretty busy at this place on the weekend. I guess we were lucky to visit on a week day. For the location and set up, I think the prices were pretty reasonable. The waiter was nice and accommodating as well. I also noticed people have autographed a particular spot on the wall. The food has gotten infinitely better than it was 15 years ago (when all I would eat would be the queso - but the queso is good - salsa too). Drinks are a little pricey but generally well made (there's a few of them that come with a touristy souvenir glass - in case you're taking someone from out of town there). The back deck has a variety of levels and nooks where they could cram as many tables to get a view as possible.
