My boyfriend and I just completed a 5 day rafting trip down through the Grand Canyon. For us it was a life changing experience. The scenery was phenomenal and the weather was tolerable being on the river. The guides were super chill, helpful and knowledgeable. We felt super cared for and safe. We are plantbased and we had plenty to eat. We also lucked out having awesome people to travel with. Our tents and sleeping gear was everything we needed. We can't wait to do another tour. Love to Cy, Ule, Aly, John, Hazel, and Jason for the trip of our lives! You guys are wonderful!

This past July I traveled with OARS on a 6 day rafting trip down the Colorado river into the Grand Canyon exiting at the bright Angel Trail climb out to the south rim. Two years previous I had used OARS for the Hells Canyon rafting trip which was the best experience I had on a vacation in years. So booked the Grand Canyon trip thinking it would be similar. What a disappointment. It was the complete opposite of the Hells canyon trip. While the Grand Canyon visually is epic, it a passive trip. Probably no fault of OARS because they are restricted to the park rules but rafters should be aware that you just sit there for 5 days without being able to paddle at all. I was only able to convince the a guide to allow 30 minutes of paddling during the whole trip. The rafts have 2 clients in the front and two in the back and the guide in the middle oaring. So you just sit there doing nothing for 5 days. The only activity was jumping into the water and swimming periodically to cool off from the average 120 degree air temp .but amazingly I was the only rafter that regularly did that as the water is about 50 degrees. We did have an occasional energetic hike along the way but the challenge was to keep your core temp down with dousing yourself in water from your water bottles. Food was disappointing for me as I am plant based considering the Other OARS trip was fantastic. This trip they were irritated with helping out compared to super help full on the previous trip. Lastly you would think the rapids would be highlight and unfortunately were uninspiring. I realize they don't want anybody exiting the raft due to the remoteness of the river and inability to assist floaters due to steep walls but one guide especially was really obnoxious restricting me from holding a camera to video when we finally had a decent size rapid. As always great relationships are made on week long trips like this but buyer beware if you expect the grand canyon trip to be your usual fun rafting trip. Go for the visual and if you are the sedentary type that wants to just sit there for 6 days this is the trip for you. I wish I had researched the format better before booking and would not have booked it. The Hells canyon trip I was on one man Kayaks most of the trip which was night and day different from this one.

It was a last minute idea and the Hatch folks were the only ones with 2 spots. We hit the JACKPOT. This company is being run by a third generation Hatch (Hi Steve!) and have it down to a science. From the pre-trip info, to the connections to shuttle/stay the night before the launch and then 12 days on the river. We hiked some amazing locations, we learned so much from the legendary guide JP who was running the raft we ended up on most, we ate like royalty every meal organized by Emily, and played fun games with the other guides Josh and Ryan. They even baked me a birthday cake as it was my bday during the trip! One thing I paid attention to was other companies on the river with us - especially those with similar rigs and how their guest were situated. I was very stoked with how the Hatch crew sets up the rig for passengers. We could move around and sit in different locations easily. Some of the other rigs I saw from other companies, it didn't appear as adaptable. There is so much to see and experience in the Canyon and its hard to summarize in a few words. We had such a good time and if we ever get the opportunity to do it again, I would 100% go straight to Hatch River Expeditions and pick up one of their trips, even if I had to make a private version ! Learned a ton about the landscape, geology, biodiversity, and how to survive in the back country (def would not have survived on my own for a bunch of different reasons). Take note, this trip is absolutely worth the work and investment but absolutely critical you come correct (train for real). This is not for the light-hearted, mental and physical toughness required. Thanks again Jeremy and the Four Seasons team.

I was the less experienced hiker and wanted my sister to be able to enjoy the hike without worrying about me. So, I hired Four Seasons Guides for a day hike in February. We had a wonderful experience, and I can't recommend them highly enough. Our guide, Steve, was charming, knowledgeable, very experienced, and took very good care of us. We had our own packs and poles, but he had some on hand just in case. Breakfast fruit and muffins were provided as well as a hot lunch set up as a picnic and snacks for the trail. My sister was anxious to get on with the hike, and I was always stopping to look at the view or ask Steve some random question about canyon geology or history (which he always knew the answer to). Somehow, due to his expertise and great people skills, we both came away thinking we each had the perfect day. Steve took away all the worry about the weather, route, wildlife (there were elk on the trail and several donkey trains passed us) and made the hike much more fun and interesting. Also, other experienced local hikers that we met on the trail let us know that Four Seasons Guides were the best and we were in good hands. If you want a fun, worry free day I highly recommend them.
