On my last morning visiting Flagstaff, I wanted to get some steps in before leaving the area. I needed to get an early start and wanted to find somewhere safe with a lot of others on the trail and something close to town. After reading up on Buffalo Park, I knew that would fit my needs. Arriving around 7 am on a random weekday, the lot was already 3/4 full. Lots of runners and walkers getting their morning workout in. There's a 2 mile loop that is well signed and easy to follow, as well as off shoots of trails for longer hikes, including the Arizona trail. Since I was short on time, I mainly stuck to the loop and then did maybe 1/2 a mile on the Arizona trail out and back so I could get an even 3 miles in. Nicely maintained paths and wonderful views of the mountains. Really well done urban park that seems to be a local favorite. read more

It is an amazing place to go for a walk or a jog. What I really enjoy about Buffalo Park is visiting at night and being able to set a chair out and just enjoy the cosmic show. The stars are beautiful out there but if you happen to have a chance a shooting star, don't forget to make a wish. Enjoyed a lovely walk about 6am. Weather is gorgeous in Flagstaff currently. Found a really pretty trail to run, Switzer something. So foresty! I plan to come back but am hour or so earlier cuz I want to see some animals or deer. Saw some regular birds, no blue jays. And on the drive over I saw one deer cross by on the drive over! Love this urban park in Flagstaff, there's a nice 2 mile loop around with different exercise machines along the way. There are QR codes at the stops to show you how to use the machines. We loved smelling the pine needles as we're from Tucson, what a great change of scenery! The walk took an hour, which just right before going for dinner, and we were able to do it in June at 2:00 comfortably! read more

I visited this park in January 2020 when there was no snow on the ground. I went for a walk around the park for about an hour and it was nice and peaceful. There wasn't much to look at - it was mostly flat and grassy, with occasional stretching and workout areas to promote exercise. I'm sure this is a great place to ride a bike or horse, there is a lot of space and the paths are wide and clear. There weren't many parking spots and the whole parking lot was muddy, so I'd recommend bringing a change of shoes or water and a towel to clean your shoes off with. I didn't try to find a bathroom and I don't recall seeing one while on my walk. read more

Nice sized fitness park in the Ponderosa Forest area with wide meadows and lots of hiking loops. Unfortunately, the Bison are long gone. Excellent restrooms and water fountains for kids dogs and adults. read more

This is our favorite spot to go to when we visit Flagstaff. It's centrally located and very accessible, but still very wild-like and if you're lucky like we were, you might see some white tailed deer! This place is located Gemini Rd in Flagstaff. I do not really want to give directions because I am not from Flagstaff so I do not know what is the best way to get there. There is a lot of parking available unless there happens to be an event there such as a race, then they could run out of parking. There are bathrooms to the left when you enter the entrance (see photo). There are some good trails for running and exercise. Good place to test yourself out at the 7000 ft elevation. Lovely wide-open park with a 2-mile loop for walking. The local track team was practicing there when we visited. It's right in Flagstaff so it's easy to teach. There are not many trees or shady spots so take that into consideration when you come. We enjoyed it and I recommend it! read more

We were looking for a place to take a fairly short and easy hike. We saw this park online and it sounded like it'd fit our needs. The park looks like it's a popular place in Flagstaff. They had plenty of parking. The path around the park was 2 miles, but there were places to cut across to shorten the total distance. It was a beautiful walk, with wonderful views of the mountains. Along the path, there were exercise stations, if you were so inclined to use them. We saw a few picnic tables, the restrooms were clean, and it's a dog-friendly area. It would've been stunning to see it with the little creek full of running water, but it was dry at this time of year. We did see some pretty fall colors on some of the trees. If we lived here, I would definitely be a regular. We saw some bikes go in, but then didn't meet any on the path so we're not sure what part of it they utilize. read more

Would thoroughly recommend checking it out if you are visiting Flagstaff. It's an 8 to 10 foot wide gravel path all the way! One reviewer mentioned having to traverse a brook. I don't know how long ago that was, but no traversing any more. That almost put us off even checking it out. Definitely worth a look! read more

Get your bikes ready and lace up your hiking boots because this place has it all. The parking lot is a bit small, but didn't feel packed. It was easy to find a spot to get in and out. The main entry is beautiful. Wild flowers galore right now from all the rain. The trails are well kept and views for miles. The mountains make it even better. Such a great place for exercise as well as photo opportunities. My girls loved it. If you're looking for a great spot to spend a few hours mountain bike riding, picnicking or a hike alone or with friends and family you'll love it here. The bathrooms are well kept and clean. This park offers stunning views of the mountains while you walk and is kid + dog friendly, a major plus for our little family! There are multiple trails that vary in distance and difficulty with some interesting informational signs along the way. Great park for jogging or hiking along nice cinder trails with expansive Mountain View's. There is a Challenge course for a bit of strength/cross training and you can catch the Arizona trail from here as well. We like to do the Nate Avery loop then cross the bridge over Cedar Avenue and do the McMillan Mesa Trail for about a 5 mile walk. In late January on a dry day we also started on the Oldham trail on the north side of the park, but it got icy quickly in the shaded areas, so had to turn around. read more

They have a small dirt lot at the front of their entrance with small rocks. They also have a small port o potty type rest room area near the front entrance. The park is big but small at the same time. You can pretty much see the entire park from the front because the landscape is so flat with not many trees. Yet if you want to walk the area it will probably take a while. They also have some exercise areas along the walking path. The air is very clear and clean. That is most likely because of the location in Flagstaff. The surrounding area is probably much the same. In the summer it is very hot. In the winter it is very cold. The dirt lot in the front is a bit small so I imagine it gets crowded when the weather gets nice. They have a lot of interesting information signs at the entrance. The Buffalo Park mini-Arboretum. The plants are native to the park and organized according to the microhabitat in which they occur including ephemeral wetlands, and basalt escarpments. Development of the garden was made with generous assistance from Flagstaff Beautification Fund, community private donors, and many, many volunteers. read more

I've been coming to Flagstaff several times a year for the past decade, and it wasn't until recently that I heard about Buffalo Park. While I have plenty to explore still, I'm glad I found this place... Not only is it great to get in a workout, but it's great for people-watching too. And with the Covid-19 pandemic still top of mind, you can easily go here, get fresh air, and keep a social distance from others too. I went with my mother-in-law, 2 kids, and dog... We went right instead of on the loop that most mention, but it was great. I look forward to returning and exploring more soon! read more

Buffalo is a great walking park and easy to get around with some nice views. There's a variety of nice wooded areas and open areas. I was also able to fill up on water at the park entrance. The only negative was a guy walked by me with his dogs off leash and one got aggressive with me and I had to shoo it away. That's not the parks fault though, just another rude visitor. I enjoyed this park very much! But unfortunately the day I came, it was super cold and the winds are like 20 miles per hour, which made it uncomfortable. There are not much trees to block the wind, etc. but I like how clean the trails are and the people exercising here are super kind and nice. If I lived in Prescott, this is my go to park to walk the dog or to jog. read more

Great 2+ mile easy loop trail with beautiful scenery! I found the Buffalo Park trail on the internet and decided to give it a go. I was with a group of friends that had done a bar crawl the day before so we were looking for something easy and not too strenuous. This trail was perfect for what we were looking for. I read that the trail can be pretty busy during the weekend, but we went on a Monday morning and it wasn't too crowded. We probably saw around 20 people on the loop. If you're looking for an easy trail with basically no elevation change, this is the trail for you! read more

Always a wonderful, well maintained trail with fantastic views to go on. Brings everyone from runners for track meets, bikers, joggers, casual walkers, & etc. It's easy to go the entire length several times or cut the journey down significantly at various points which is nice, depending on your fitness level or energy level that day. There are fun fitness challenges along the way if you like the extra challenge or, like me, you get easily distracted & enjoy a change of pace throughout anything you're doing (yay ADHD). The parking lot can get fun fairly quickly so I suggest you time it so you get there earlier than the crowds or you can park father away & add extra steps into your routine. I enjoy the views as well as the versitility of options, though I usually opted for times when it was less crowded personally. Fun to attend some of the events that the community holds here though & get involved with others with similar interests. It also has picnic benches & tables as well as a space with shade provided. There are also a couple drinking fountains towards the entrance to fill up your water bottles which is nice. Been a while since I've visited this trail but it's a nice one & I recommend. Maybe one day I'll build up the strength to be able to climb up the rope using only my arms (or at all lol; let's be honest). read more

Love this gem of a place in Flagstaff, Arizona. visited this place for the first time with the family and my four-legged baby. We all love the 2-mile lube because in every which direction you go you always end up with a two mile walk or run, depending on what you feel like doing for a cardio on any given day. We love the open space and the vest backdrop scenery of the mountains and the pine trees. It was a windy day but it was a pleasant walk in a pleasant place in Arizona. Wow, I can not think of one reason why Buffalo Park should have anything less that 5 stars. This place is absolutely incredible. The views are absolutely insane and it has a well marked easy to hike mile long track. I recently attended a walk to end suicide here and I have to say I was so disappointed in myself that I live less than a mile away from here and rarely visit this place. This summer I have a goal to to hike here as much as I can. Pro tip for those of you how are looking to spend some time in the forrest as well as gain some awesome knowledge. If you stop at the Shoemaker building just before the parking lot you will be able to see a "museum" about Flagstaff's involvement in the lunar landings. Long story short this place is truly amazing and is a great place to take in Flagstaff while getting some high altitude fresh air. read more

This place is awesome! Literally, 10 minutes from downtown Flag and plenty of room to hike, run or just need a place of fresh air. Hardly an elevation, pretty flat for people that don't like steps and perfect for families with little kids. Beware that you'll want to stay on the path as if you venture just a little off and you'll be welcomed to jumping cactus....so for those of you with little toddlers, just make sure they stay on the trail. read more
