I went on the 16 day full canyon trip with Canyon Explorations in April 2026. The trip was very well organized. We were a group of 14 with 6 guides, though I think a full trip is 16-18. We had 1 dory, 4 oar boats, 1 paddle boat and the best part were the 2 inflatable kayaks. All of the guides were very experienced and knowledgeable. They worked great together as a team and took great care of us. It was obvious that the guides love the river and the canyon and being able to share it with us. They stressed cleanliness, awareness, and were environmentally conscious. The hot and cold meals were fabulous including fresh fruit and veggies, a main protein and dessert. Hiking the side canyons was a highlight. The harder hikes were a bit too fast paced and challenging for me, so I chose the shorter hikes with less elevation gain. The trip through the canyon exceeded my highest expectations. The Trip leader and guides were fantasic in every way. Their attention to detail, knowledge of the river & canyon, and how to guide guests throughout the trip was top notch! Go with Can-X and treat yourself to the half-month all-paddle trip to Grand Canyon. It will be life changing. I'm surprised Can-X doesn't have more recent reviews, given the high quality of the 15-day all paddle trip through 226 miles of Grand Canyon. The guides are knowledgeable not only of how to navigate the rapids, but of Grand Canyon's geology, natural history and tales of the earliest river runners. Besides rafting, we took over 15 hikes to some of the most amazing places you can only easily reach from the river. Can-X is respectful of the local tribes and are great stewards of the Colorado River and Grand Canyon. Of course, they are trained in wilderness and emergency first aid, plus I found out they are prepared for any situation-one guide was the trip cobbler who re-glued and sewed the sole of my hiking shoes back onto the boot! The food is absolutely incredible, and they even accommodated my gluten allergy. My college age son and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend Can-X to everyone. You deserve to go with such a quality company. (And not with a loud motor boat.) read more

Can-x (though...they really need to come up with a new abbreviated name....since can-x means to cancel....come on folks!) is awesome! Their guides are knowledge on the canyon (including history, plants and animals), great cooks, and battle tested oarsmen. I went on the 7 day 'upper' trip running the Colorado from Lees Ferry to the Bright Angel Trail. Camping was awesome beneath the stars whil hydrating on cheap whiskey I traded sunscreen for. Sunscreen.... underrated! The guides we're pretty cool....except for West and Damion who double crossed us in the water gun fight in the super cold water. Also....Lynn....though super cool...and probably the best oarsmen in the group.....come on! Who brings bubbles to a water gun fight???!!!!! Fortunately the summer sun (June trip) helped out the whole freezing cold water thing. A few tips for your trip. Bring cheap booze or spare hand savve (sp?) to trade for anything/anything. Memorize your fav Toby Keith or Don mcLean songs to sing in the canyon (no other songs reverberate well for some reason). Learn to just zone out when the group geologist starts talking about the granite and zorocaster whatever rocks.....lame! Don't wear tevas shoes (we had 4 failures while my closed toed keens works swimmingly (great pun right?)). Final thought. J.C. the paddle boat dictator (he'll tell you how dictatorships work....) is the man. I don't care what Damion says, JC is super manly, can hold his liquor just fine and has a great chin. On the down side, right and left is never right and left on the water! Come on JC: it's port and stbd on the water. You don't want to piss off posiedon do you? I'd give CanX 4.5 stars if I could for your silly left/right turn calls on the paddle boat. read more

Review One year ago I set afloat at Lee's ferry with Canyon Explorations -16 days - 288 miles of unknown river lay before me. The adventure awaited me. I was full of anticipation, a little uncertain. Over the next 16 days I was awestruck, enlighten, delighted, hot, cold ,wet, happy, in tears of happiness, tired, empowered, to say it was a trip of a life time seems like such cliche - but it was .Every single day this past year I thought back on my river adventure - and I smiled . I closed my eyes and thought back on all the memories and my heart filled up with happiness. If you have the opportunity to take this trip -take it, if don't have the opportunity -make one. Trip of a lifetime exceeded my expectations on every level. Best guides on the river. Great company that provides fun for everyone, regardless of ability. We'll be back. Spent 9 amazing days rafting the Colorado River through the lower half of the Grand Canyon. Started with a 7.5 mile hike from the rim to the river. 6 rafts for 24 people, including guides went 137 miles down the river through 75 rapids! Gear & guides, provided by Canyon Explorations, were the best. So peaceful to row the river. We didn't just see the canyon, we heard it, felt it & smelled it. We had oar boats, paddle boats, kayaks, and even a paddleboard. We saw lots of other boats tours along the way. No one was having as much fun as our group. read more

I am surprised this is the first review for a wonderful company. Perhaps Yelpers do not go on Grand Canyon rafting trips. Last week 10 family members finished a nine day trip down the Colorado River with Canyon Explorations. Their employees were very skilled, safety minded and service oriented. The food was very good and plentiful. The hiking trips were both challenging and rewarding. Canyon Ex provided up-to-date equipment for the river running and nightly camping. Amazing trip and company! I went on the Upper Canyon all paddle trip with CanX, and can not recommend it strongly enough. The guides, the boats, the itinerary, the hikes, the food, the rapids -- all were amazing. The guides really know their stuff and are very safety conscious, as well as fun. The food is prepared fresh and is delicious. There are options for those who want to take a break and not do all the hikes or as rigorous of paddling, and there are options for the "hardcore". It was a trip of a lifetime. I would go back in a heartbeat, and most definitely would choose CanX! read more

Just finished a 2 week full canyon trip with CanX--oar and paddle rafts and 2 inflatable kayaks. The organization and efficiency of this company, both in the pre trip phase and in the canyon, was superb. The guides were highly skilled, very friendly, inspiring, knowledgeable, and eager to share their knowledge. They are truly extraordary people. The food was great, the equipment excellent--well used but in good repair. Singles had a two man tent, couples a 4 man tent, but sleeping under the stars was best as long as the wind blown sand wasn't two bad. The hikes were short but steep and involved some scrambling, use of the hands, and occasionaly an assist from a guide or fellow guest. The time spent on hikes was short enough that those who chose not to do a particular hike were not waiting too long. The hikes generally went to some scenic feature in a side canyon--often a pool of water, waterfall, or Native American archeological site. (Those looking for long hikes should consider other options. The length of the hikes is based on the ability and desires of most of the participants as well as the time limit the NPS imposes on commercial trips--it takes a lot of time on the water to cover the whole canyon.) The paddle raft and kayaks were the most exciting and fun in the rapids, but of course required a little more work. Guests were able to successfully run all but the biggest rapids in the kayaks, despite no previous whitewater experience, and the deep water and lack of rocks to hit made flipping a kayak a relatively painless experience. Potential guests should expect a fair amount of work loading and unloading boats, helping with dishes, setting up camp, etc. Not everyone helped but most people, seeing how hard and long the guides worked were eager to help out. There was no pressure to do so. If you can afford the time and expense I would encourage you to do the full canyon trip--I think it takes that long to fully disconnect with the outside world (no internet or cell service), which is one of the big benefits of a trip to a wild place (and you avoid the 4500 vertical foot hike into or out of the canyon of a half=canyon trip.) I recommend this company in the strongest possible terms--and may you be lucky and have a rain-free trip like we had. read more

I wish that I could leave a better review for this Company, but I just can't. My brother-in-law, who is an avid rafter saved for years to take a trip down the Colorado river with his family. He researched many company's and chose Canyon Explorations. He and his family were to take the long awaited adventure this week. They were completely prepared, had bought all necessary equipment and supplies from Railrider's, bags were packed, flights were booked, the whole nine yards. Unfortunately my brother-in-law who is the picture of fitness and health had a major heart attack less than one week prior to their trip. He remains in the intensive care unit as I write this. It saddens me to say that when my sister, who god knows is going through enough right now called the company to inform them of this news and to reschedule their trip when he was able, was met with a Company who has no heart. Canyon Explorations was completely unwilling to work with her. No refund, no rescheduling NOTHING! My brother-in-law is Fireman and has been for nearly 30 years. He is the kind of guy who would do anything for anyone, and has so many times. He deserved this trip, and worked and saved so hard to be able to do this with his family. As he recovers in the hospital it would be so nice to ease his mind and give him something to look forward to, by telling him not to worry, the company was awesome and will see to it that he gets to take his family on his dream trip as soon as he is well. Sadly, that is not the case. I urge you, if you are planning a rafting trip and considering Canyon Explorations, consider someone else. With the lack of compassion shown to my family in this situation, I would not trust them with my life or those of people I love. read more

Just finished a 16 day trip with Can-Ex and can fully endorse all of the great reviews from others. This was a real stretch for me, and the crew was amazing. Everything was well organized from the pre-trip materials and orientation to the transport home on the last day; each day on the river was well planned (with room for improvisation when necessary); the food was great; the evening briefings in which the day was re-capped and the next day's activities were planned were excellent; and of course the environment was incredible. As far as I'm concerned, there's no need to look for another company to work with for a Canyon trip. As long as they're running the river, Can-Ex will get my business. read more

Canyon Expeditions Explorations Just got off the Colorado River with Canyon Explorations & Expeditions (Dave, Enga, Justin, Leo, Mara, Nancy and helper Ante) and they did an excellent job. Guides were very knowledgeable, fun to be with and worked incredibly hard. And the food was remarkably good (fresh pork chops on day 13!). Also, I have celiac sprue and cannot have any gluten (it literally damages/destroys my intestines). On a 15 day trip with very limited toilet availability during the day, an exposure to gluten can be really problematic to say the least. The team did a great job to accommodate me and even set up a separate table for us (one person having celiac sprue and two people having gluten allergies) to ensure there was no cross contamination. Overall, an outstanding trip (and I am a hard grader) and If you are wanting to go down the Grand Canyon, these are a great group to go with. read more

I went on a 13-day full canyon trip with seven family members earlier this summer.I have done similar trips with other outfitters on other rivers. The quality of the experience with CanEx was head and shoulders above my experiences with other outfitters. The paddle/oar trip was perfect for us and CanEx did everything right. Among many things that they did well, the skill and passion of all of the six guides on our trip were outstanding. Not only were the guides skillful and river-running, camping, cooking - they were terrific at making sure that everyone on the trip was having a good time, no small task with a diverse set of singles and family groups that had never met before. And their passions for being on the river, for the natural and human history of the Grand Canyon, for preparing and enjoying delicious and plentiful food, and for having fun were contagious. And to top it off, we got to spend 13 days in a place that inspires awe and reverence. read more
