Highly recommend OARS as your guide to travel through the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. It's…read moreimportant to remember that the bottom of the canyon can be dangerous, it's wild and difficult to access - it's also important to be with guides who have been through the canyon many times and know it well. They take both pride and pleasure showing the amazing features of the river, but as they guide you through your trip, you know their overriding concern will always be safety first.

The experience missed our expectation by a wide margin. The company description needs to be changed…read moreto reflect the amount of effort required of the guests that participate. Let me explain in detail. The Bar 10 dude ranch portion of the trip was excellent as the staff made every effort to insure our satisfaction and especially to see to our comfort. The helicopter ride into the canyon was very cool but only 6 minutes. The rafting in the GC was excellent and the guides were professional and we felt very safe on the water. However, other than the meal preparation, the river staff were not interested in our comfort in any way. While we all struggled each day to set up our own tent and sleeping bags/mats... often the staff would relax on the rafts reading a book. I didn't feel like there was any concern for our comfort or even safety during the very heavy and windy thunderstorm we had the first night or during the sand storm the second night (40 mph winds that tried to collapse our tents). Ten of the 16 people in our group were over 60 which made it more challenging. The river guides were at best cliquish on land if not downright unfriendly. The exception was the group leader, Russell and 2 "volunteers" (Kyle and Maddie) were kind and friendly. The very first day we pretty much had a "land acknowledgement" by one of the river guides which set the tone politically. I was also surprised and unclear about the stringent hand washing policy that was very strictly supervised. It made me think that they must have had a bad norovirus experience at some point? The food was about what you would expect under the circumstances. My biggest issue arose at the takeout. My wife was struggling with a previous and mild leg issue. At the takeout, I wanted her to rest on the air conditioned bus while we unloaded the boat for the takeout. She was not allowed to get on the bus till all the bags had been removed; so she stood in 105 degree temperatures while we were forced to unload not just our personal gear but the company cooking and camping materials as well. We didn't mind helping the 3 staff unload the boat but resented being forced to do it. Overall, the level of service and assistance while in camp left a lot to be desired and didn't live up to the cost of the trip. The "jet boat" ride was fine and the captain was nice for the 75 minute trip to the takeout. Lastly, the 3 hour bus ride back into Las Vegas was inconsistent with the plane ride to the ranch. Though the driver was great, I thought a different mode of transportation that matched the trip to the river would have been better but would have cut into OAR's margins. In summary, I would not recommend this trip to anyone but especially not to older participants unless you like independent camping with little help except for a communal toilet and meal preparation.

Learned a ton about the landscape, geology, biodiversity, and how to survive in the back country (def would not have survived on my own for a bunch of different reasons). Take note, this trip is absolutely worth the work and investment but absolutely critical you come correct (train for real). This is not for the light-hearted, mental and physical toughness required. Thanks again Jeremy and the Four Seasons team.

I was the less experienced hiker and wanted my sister to be able to enjoy the hike without worrying about me. So, I hired Four Seasons Guides for a day hike in February. We had a wonderful experience, and I can't recommend them highly enough. Our guide, Steve, was charming, knowledgeable, very experienced, and took very good care of us. We had our own packs and poles, but he had some on hand just in case. Breakfast fruit and muffins were provided as well as a hot lunch set up as a picnic and snacks for the trail. My sister was anxious to get on with the hike, and I was always stopping to look at the view or ask Steve some random question about canyon geology or history (which he always knew the answer to). Somehow, due to his expertise and great people skills, we both came away thinking we each had the perfect day. Steve took away all the worry about the weather, route, wildlife (there were elk on the trail and several donkey trains passed us) and made the hike much more fun and interesting. Also, other experienced local hikers that we met on the trail let us know that Four Seasons Guides were the best and we were in good hands. If you want a fun, worry free day I highly recommend them.

Across the board, the Outdoors Unlimited (OU) crew was the dream team! Everyone was so freaking cool, in their own way to contribute to the vibes and needs of the trip! Laura: Perfectly decisive trip leader! Kind, knowledgeable, fun, and firm. Ben: The most knowledgeable person I'll ever meet regarding the Grand Canyon and rafting. I am fortunate to have been on a trip with this legend. Kevin: Good vibes. Awesomely snarky and fun attitude. Josh: Wild and crazy, but super safe. Tony: The wisest and strongest man on the river. Super cool guy. Cris: Chill. Sits back and takes it all in, but then pipes up and adds so much positivity! The meals were incredible - I ate better in 2 weeks in the canyon than I do at home! Breakfast, lunch, dinners and desserts were A+. Crazy good quality, diversity (steaks to ahi tuna steaks to cakes and cookies)...Freaking on point! All of the gear provided was top notch too. As a avid camper/backpacker and gearhead, I was hesitant before arrive, but everything OU provided worked perfectly. I would 100% recommend Outdoors Unlimited for your Grand Canyon rafting trip!
