I had a friend that invited me to head up with him and I hesitantly agreed. We woke up at 5am which was a good idea not only for the heat but also for the crowds. The hike was definitely tough but well worth it. The views at the top let you see the entire town. Taking a breather at the top was needed and appreciated. The downhill hike was still challenging but much easier and took about half the time. The whole hike start to finish took about 3.5 hours, not bad I'd say for a couple almost 40 year old bums!

Just turn around when you are ready. It was a "10" on this October day for leaf peeping. Get there early. The parking lot is on the right side at the top of Snowbowl road. Keep in mind that the hike is harder on the way back as you are climbing back out. I took a wrong turn in a rocky area leading to an uphill, beautiful lookout. Highly recommend

This trail is located at Walnut Canyon National Monument. There is a visitor center and two trails…read morehere. The Rim trail at a pretty even 0.75 miles is great for people who want a stroll that follows the canyon rim (out and back trail). You can see the structures from the rim, but it's even better with binoculars. The Island trail is slightly longer at 1 mi, but a steeper 185 vertical feet into the canyon with a whole bunch of stairs at the beginning, and returns the same way. I guess people get too tired to climb back up since there are numerous signs warning of the steep climb back. The trail begins at the back door exit of the visitor center, which they close at 4 pm (the entire monument closes at 5 pm, so they don't want anyone to start the trail and get locked in). If you have small kids you might have to carry them up on the way back since the stairs are pretty much straight up. Both trails were great and they had informational signs along the way. I really liked the Island trail since you get up close and personal with the structures. It's a totally different vibe from the Grand Canyon, so don't expect huge views.

I didn't pass by too many people, probably because it was late. I got up around 5PM, had a nice golden hour and the sun was setting as I walked down. There were patches of snow here and there especially close to the top, but the snow was super packed and not a big deal. I got back down close to 6PM and it was dark by then. The trailhead said 5 miles, not sure where AllTrails got the 6.3 miles. Good hike, nice views!

We love this hike in Flagstaff and try to do it every time that we visit. It is not easy, at all,…read moreplan ahead for a 2-4 hour experience. The summit offers great views of Northern Arizona including Mt Humphries, Kendrick Mountain and the Inner Basin of the Coconino National Forest. We will pack a snack lunch and take plenty of water. The large parking area has never been full and we encounter most other hikers on the early section that includes Fat Man's Loop. Make sure to sign in at the start!

It starts off in a wooded area and we were…read moredetermined to get to a great spot to watch the sunrise over the San Francisco peaks so we were trying to make haste, it was still dark. By the time we reached a large meadow where the trail splits to the Arizona Trail, the sky was lit but the sun wasn't out. We saw two amazing elk across the meadow. They were very large, both with huge antlers and they stood so majestic. I tried to get my camera out of my backpack but they were gone in an instant. The Bismark trail doesn't continue for very long but it offers many wildflowers along the path and if you go earlier in the year the meadows would be full of them. We continued on the Arizona trail which is 817 miles long and expands across Arizona from Mexico to Utah. We didn't have time to knock out the entire thing :) but we put in several miles. The sunrise wasn't over the peaks as we had hoped, we were too far north for that but it was spectacular nonetheless.

This is one of my favorite hiking areas to bring the dogs that is close to home! Little Elden Trail…read moreis about 11.7 miles and is good for all skill levels! The trail is in its best shape from April until November, but we've gone there all times of the year and see other hikers, horses and mountain bikers, and even with snow, it's not too challenging! The hike will bring you through forested Meadows and then around the east slopes of Little Elden Mountain. Along the way it passes through old and new growth forests and the remains of the 1977 Radio Fire! Lots of rocks and greenery! Once the monsoon season starts you will see wildflowers galore! The route will lead you by two springs, Sandy Seep and the larger more developed, Elden Springs, near the end of the route! This hike is part of the Arizona National Scenic Trail (AZT), a route stretching lengthwise more than 800 miles through the state from Utah to Mexico! Let's not forget the beautiful sunsets that I've snapped a couple of pics of here! We also see tons of wildlife from small animals to elk, snakes, horny toads, lizards and tarantulas! I like its proximity to home, ease for vehicles to access and our dogs love it here! We never see too many people around, so it's a peaceful spot!

This park is just off of Hwy 180. It is in a residential area, with good street parking, nice grass…read moreand trees for shade. There are benches and picnic tables available. It is very clean...just a little gem of a park. no playground, but wide open spaces for other activities. We've been here a couple of times for the City of Flagstaff PROSE Concerts in the Park. It's a really nice park to hang out in or for a picnic, but it was a perfect venue to see The Flag 5.

We were specifically looking for a place to sled. This place kept showing up in the search. It was…read morea short 20 minute drive from downtown Flagstaff. Keep in mind that we came during mid-March. There weren't any attendants around and the place was empty. There wasn't a ton of snow left because of the time of year, but there was enough left from last week's snowfall that it served its purpose. The kids had fun for a couple hours sledding. I read they don't allow plastic sleds there normally. You would need foam or inflatables. There are supposed to be 2 main runs but it was hard to tell which they were. We didn't have trouble finding some hills to play on. There was free parking and a restroom. Plus! It was pretty muddy getting back to the car but that's expected for snow play. We had a good time here and it was a nice little free excursion for the kids.
