Wow, I had such a great experience working with Canyon REO and their staff that don't even know where to begin. Warning: this is gunna be a bit lengthy. **TL;DR: Canyon REO is 10/10 who I would recommend to anyone, especially professional boaters who like intuitive systems.** I have been professional guide on week-long river trips for the past 11 years of my life, and when I pulled my canyon permit 18 months ago I knew from my experience as a river professional that I did NOT want the responsibility of orchestrating each tiny detail. As the trip drew nearer, I also found myself in graduate school without a whole lot of time to spare on planning such an epic adventure. About 6 months before the trip I called every outfitter that offered deluxe packages for the Grand Canyon. Although I think the "product" of gear, food, etc is probably very similar across canyon trips are very similar (I've been on other trips with other outfitted companies), Canyon REO above and beyond outshone their competitors when it came to my initial phone call and customer service. They treated my trip like an individual, special experience and asked questions that really stuck out to me as a fellow river human. Once I decided to pull the trigger on going with Canyon REO their process was so easy and intuitive that even while in my first year of a PhD program and being incredibly short on time I never felt like I had to figure out anything for myself. They have really clear guides for food, logistics, and recommendations for outside information. I genuinely enjoyed every check-in phone call I made throughout the process. An important logistical note was that their system for planning food for the trip was exceptional. They had so many choices, they made this part of the trip easily to delegate to other people on the trip, and they were SO helpful at accommodating one of our trip goers who had some pretty severe eating restrictions. When it was finally time for the song and dance, Canyon REO's staff were incredibly helpful, friendly, and really matched our experience level in terms of giving us the information we needed to have a successful and enjoyable trip. Their gear was top notch, clean, and very easy to use. The way they packed food was absolutely seamless and made our nights in camp a breeze. After our 25 day trip, the staffers that met us at the ramp were clean, professional, and helped us button things up incredibly quickly so we were on our way to our final destinations by 1 PM that day. We also had Canyon REO shuttle our rigs. On most trips this is often the biggest headache and sketchiest part of the trip. Canyon REO made this as seamless as the rest of the trip and the staff who drove our cars were incredibly friendly and helpful at the ramp. To someone in the industry, these kinds of details really blew me away. After the trip, the wrap up process has been really nice. I know how many individuals, families, crazy groups, etc that walk through the doors of businesses like these. I know first hand how hard it is to smile and treat each person kindly and engage with them authentically and make their trip an unforgettable experience. Canyon REO gone above and beyond my expectations every step of the way. Could not be more happy about such an incredible trip and how easy they made this process for me. 10/10 would recommend Canyon REO to any private trip group. Mostly good, but we did have some issues. 1) We had over a dozen dutch oven meals/desserts on our menu but Canyon REO did not provide a coal tower to heat the coals. As a result 95% of our dutch oven meals/desserts ended up destroyed and inedible. 2) We had a yolk pop off our oar tower at the very top of Hance. There was a spare in the major repair kit, but we did have to run the entire rapid with one oar. We got lucky that we were able to tee up to the major holes (albeit backwards) and didn't have any more carnage. But this should never ever have happened and was purely an issue with gear malfunction. Someone died in that rapid a few days behind us so it definitely could have been a lot worse. read more

Canyon REO should be your go-to company for assistance in Grand Canyon private rafting trips. I've been on 7 trips that they handled logistics for and they jut keep getting better! As a trip leader, it was so great to have their personalized expertise throughout our trip. Whether you rent raft packages from them or use your own rafts, the folks at Canyon REO will do everything they can to ensure a perfect trip. The food was over-the-top with great menu selections, easy to follow recipes, great packing. We had fresh fruit and vegetables for 21 days! Special requests, allergies, vegetarians, etc. were all dealt with very professionally. My first trip with Canyon REO was in 1996 and my most recent was fall of 2020. The menu options have evolved over time and current offerings are varied and delicious!!! The boil-in-bag options are great simple meals. The put in and take outs, including resupply and partial take out at Diamond Creek were all handled very smoothly even with COVID-19 concerns. We are now a couple of weeks post trip so I have a minute to share our Canyon REO experience in early June (2019). It was fantastic! Pretrip, I was in communication with REO whenever I had a question, and the REO staff was so helpful in the preparation for our trip. The equipment was all in great shape. Our rigger, Dave, really got us off to a great start. The food quality and organization was outstanding! Some said that there are better water filters out there with UV that eliminate the need for chlorine drops, but that's not much to complain about. We would have had ice and fresh food almost to the end of our trip, but we made a deal with a deadheading commercial raft to help store his sponsons in return for tons of ice and steak and salmon. So were eating pretty good all the way to the end! When you are taking a lot of people "out there" for so many days, it's good to know that your outfitter has done this so many times for so many trips, they have pretty much thought of everything.
