This place is overpriced with subpar service. Had a tiny button hole on a pantsuit that I wanted fixed, and they charged me 80 dollars for it! When I asked them how long it would take to fix, they said it would only take an hour, which means they knew it was an easy job. What's worse is, they told me to call ahead of time when I come in to pick up my clothing. When it came time to pick up my suit, I called them, and they didn't answer. I called two more times on two separate occasions during their open hours, and they still didn't answer. It took me two months to finally get back my pantsuit. Would not recommend anyone to come here. Just go to literally any tailor in downtown - they will give you less than half the price offered at Oakridge Tailor with way better service. read more

When my wedding dresses arrived from JJ's House (yes, I ordered two!), they had to be altered a bit. The dresses weren't a disaster (as feared), but they needed a little tweaking (as expected). Oakridge Tailors came highly recommended, and so I entrusted them with my dresses for my important day. Due to circumstances, I did not have my dresses until a month before my wedding but Joy and William, the owners, said that was plenty of time for them to make the alterations, and I picked the dresses up a couple of weeks later. When I went to pick up the dresses, the dress I planned on wearing on the "big day" was a go, but the second dress (I couldn't resist ordering it, so I ordered it as a backup dress and a dress to wear the day after, while we're partying it up in Vegas) still needed some minor alterations -- there was a bit of loose material at the waist that was puckering. So Joy said that she would fix it, and I went back a couple of days later. When I went back for the dress, a little more material still had to be removed, and Joy and William told me they could have it done that day, so I went and did my errands and went back about an hour later. Due to the design of the dresses, my body shape, and the fact that I took a gamble and ordered the dresses online without the ability to try them on, the dresses aren't perfect, but they are close, and Joy and William helped me with that. This is by far the nicest,friendliest place Ive been to tailor my clothing.The prices were reasonable,the staff were very accommodating and made sure that every customer was fully satisfied with their needs.The shop itself was very spacious,neat and you could tell that they were very organized.I also enjoyed how easily accessible the location was by skytrain or taking the 49. I've been trying out a few of the more recommended tailors in town (Alberts, Modernize) and Oakridge was on my list. I brought in 2 of my favourite jackets to have the sleeves shortened. It is a bit expensive ($28 for one, $34 for the other as it was a bit more complicated) however they did a great job. I even brought an old suit in to get Williams opinion on whether he can tailor it to my body and he was honest and told me for the money I would be spending, it would be better off putting that money towards a new suit. I purchased an item (brand new without tags sport coat) on eBay and discovered that the owner had shortened the sleeves without mentioning that specific detail in his ad. And the owner would not accept returns. I was choked and made a big stink about it, but I really did like the item and wanted to see if I could salvage the purchase. I brought it to OT and they performed their usual magic and made the sleeves work for me. I was so impressed and grateful. There are two things I expect from a tailor that charges twice the going rate and takes twice as long as anybody else for a simple hem: first, the thread tension must be perfect so the hem is invisible and, second, a scuff patch on the back of the cuff had better be applied for longevity of wear. Oakridge tailors don't offer either. I went by last week with a new suit to have it hemmed and the shoulders taken in. They quoted me about $200 to take in the shoulders and $18 for a simple pant hem. The latter is about twice the going rate, and the former is closer to three times what the job is worth. I entertained the hem just to see what the yelp hype was all about, even though a week turnaround is ridiculous (to be fair, when I showed up after four days to see if there was a chance it was ready, it was). The hem is too tight so there is a line three inches up the leg, which looks a little like the work of an elementary school kid's mom. Service was polite, but not particularly thoughtful. After explaining that the suit was a gift, I was told to see about trading it in because three-button is not really in this year - that was after he told me I should have gotten a smaller jacket instead of looking to have it tailored. As if they make half-sizes for shoulders... Maybe I got there on an off-day, but my experience is pretty easily summed up: Meh. I've had better. I won't be back - I'm not a fan of paying bespoke prices for an off-the-rack tailored suit, especially when the tailoring is best described as only proficient. read more

Oakridge Tailors has a perfect score for good reason. They are highly skilled and have great customer service. They always deliver. Their prices certainly aren't the cheapest, but when I get my item back and it has been done properly it is definitely worth it. I have full confidence in William and Joy. They have completed numerous jobs for me, from small jobs like hemming to full suit alterations. In fact, I would take them any tailoring I have. But they need to be careful- they are getting too well known. They are very busy, and sometimes the quoted turnaround time can be very long! read more

I've used Oakridge Tailors for 2 suits and a pair of wool dress pants over the last few years, and I can't recommend them highly enough. Echoing the previous reviewers, they are not cheap. However, the quality of their finished product is excellent. I was able to purchase relatively cheap off-the-rack designer suits and have them tailored to look like they were custom made. Extremely impressed. They are popular, so their turnaround time is often quite long (don't expect your suit back within the week), but again, this is to be expected. I have never needed rush service. If there was a need, I am sure William and Joy could accomodate. I did take in a pair of wool dress pants to be hemmed and tapered, and the tapered stitching was too loose. The pants were black and I am pretty pasty white - so it ended up that I could see my leg through the pant hem whenever I sat with my legs crossed. I took the pants back, and they were fixed at no charge. No fuss. I respect that kind of service greatly and it completely made up for the initial mistake. I find their advice honest, and useful. When I first came in with a suit, William made note of how important it is to have shoulders fit properly at purchase, because it is so difficult and expensive to have this area fixed. The suit I had purchased was not quite right. So when I purchased another suit, I first made sure that the shoulders fit perfectly, but I wasn't as worried about the areas I knew Oakridge could handle. Basically, they warn you about what they can and cannot do, and where you start losing value by requiring their services (why buy a $500 suit that needs $300 in tailoring when you could just buy a nicer $700 suit that needs $100 in tailoring?). People shouldn't be offended at this - it's useful! read more

I've brought in two dresses and two pairs of tights to get tailored by Joy and William. The store has little changing rooms to wear the garments so they can take a look at how everything fits. The first alteration was to get the waist taken in on a very fancy dress with an intricate border print around the hem. The end result was fabulous. I couldn't even tell the dress had been tailored. The print on the dress wasn't distorted at all. The second was to get the arms taken in on a Wilfred dress. No problems there at all, very professional and Joy even complimented my dress! So sweet. The two pairs of tights I brought in were from Lululemon. William and Joy told me Lululemon would hem them for free. I appreciated their honesty (though in hindsight they probably already get loads of clients so...haha it would be a load off their work schedule). I ended up getting one pair hemmed a bit shorter and one longer for two different looks -- upon Joy's suggestion. They always try their best to be pleasant. I'll be back with two pairs of pants, a swimsuit and a skirt, so we'll see how it goes! read more

Impeccable quality and customer service. Although the price is higher than normal alternation shop, every penny is worth if you have high stander for your suit. Honest and excellent at their craft. You let them take measurement, drop the clothing off and pick up satisfied. These guys are not super cheap if that's what you're looking for. I don't think they are expensive either. They're very good at altering and will make a $200 off the rack suit fit and look like a $2k bespoke suit. They will give you very specific suggestions and options depends on the occasion that you want to wear the clothing or your style like any good tailors would. If they think an alteration is a bit unnecessary and won't make a big difference, they will recommend against it. Decision is up to you. No sleezy sales tactics here. read more

I brought in a suit that I was given as a grad gift by my parents over 11 years ago. They spent a pretty penny on it, but due to poor sales people at the time, changing styles, and having trimmed down, I was swimming in that suit and therefore never wore it. I have a wedding coming up that I needed to look good for and rather than buy a new suit, I threw a hail mary and took previous reviews' word for it and brought my suit in to Oakridge Tailors to see what they could do. Outstanding! The suit fits like a glove, from slob to heart throb. It took 3 weeks, and cost just under 500 dollars, but the suit was 1100 new and I would never have been able to purchase a comparable suit for the same price. I had every alteration you possibly have done. When deciding whether to pay for the overhaul, they were never pushy and left the decision up to me. I was impressed all around with their attention to customer service. When something needed a little extra altering when I picked up the suit, William and Joy debated the pros and cons and asked me to make the final decision and did the final alterations right then. Amazing place to have all your clothing tailored! I was told by a friend to go there because I needed my suit altered for a wedding. The owners were very polite and accommodating to what I wanted. Their work was excellent, as well as the experience that was clearly shown through their work. After that I've had; 4 dress shirts, another suit, dress pants, and a leather jacket fitted to my body to perfection!! My wife and I have had two experiences now with Oakridge Tailors and only have positive things to say. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is possible to find better prices elsewhere, but if you have nicer garments and want alterations that are top notch, Will and Joy can make it happen. The first experience we had was for a suit for a wedding. It was probably the most expensive suit I'd ever purchased, and as I'd saved a ton of money shopping across the border I felt I could spend a bit more on the tailoring. I did my research (thanks Yelp!) and decided on Oakridge Tailors. They did not disappoint! The suit looked custom made and there were no end to the compliments I received the day I wore it. Our second experience with Oakridge Tailors was just this week, someone close to us sadly passed away unexpectedly and we had to attend a funeral. I called Oakridge Tailors and spoke to Will, as I had a black suit I needed altered on short notice. I didn't have high hopes as I knew they were extremely busy, but when he found out the circumstances surrounding my request he didn't hesitate at all in asking me to come in ASAP so he could help me out. I don't want to disclose the turnaround time for this alteration, because I wouldn't want Will and Joy to be inundated with unreasonable requests, but believe me, the time it took them to alter my suit (including hemming, sleeves and taking in the back) was impressive to say the least. I have been to Oakridge Tailors once to have a dress tailored and am very happy with the service. I had the dress taken in at the sides (outer layer and lining), and sleeves shortened by about half.These guys did a fabulous job and really seemed to understand what I was after from the get-go. They did a great job on the sleeves and were able to retain the lacy edging in the original design. Nice folks and they even called a day early to let me know they had the dress ready. Spectacular! I needed sleeves shortened on a nice hand-made wool coat with unusual sleeve ends and the guy was honest with me, saying it might not turn out like the original ones. But, in the end, they pulled it off exactly like it had been, and didn't even charge me for an extra little modification I requested! These two are the most amazing couple. They really take care of you and are really personable. I came to get my wedding reception dress altered and I went to pick it up and was so so happy with it, it looked absolutely perfect. Meanwhile, I was having a huge issue with a different tailor that was altering my wedding ceremony dress and was so distraught. I asked Oakridge Tailors if they could help me based on the amazing job on the wedding reception dress. He said it depended on how bad it was but to bring it to them and they could take a look. My wedding dress ended up being ruined by the other tailor, so I brought it in so they could take a look. Oakridge Tailors were so genuinely concerned for me and told me they could help. They instructed me to go find more lace so we could add a cuff to my sleeves that would make it longer and look more professional (the previous tailors did the wrong length on the sleeves, among other errors...) Then as they were trying to figure out how to put the cuff on they noticed a couple other things that could be fixed and did that, which I am super grateful for. I am really happy with how it turned out and my dress looked way better after their help. I highly recommend this place! read more

Took a pair of True Religions in where the zipper had broke and they did a fabulous job. Looks exactly the same. They were even able to salvage the original zipper pull with the TR symbol and attach it to the new tape. Soo happy my favorite jeans are good to go again. We have come here three times. I have gotten a silk dress and jeans hemmed. My boyfriend has gotten several jeans hemmed along with a cotton shirt hemmed and brought in on the sides. This review goes back a ways but basically I had lost about 60lbs since I last wore the only two suits that I own and my grandmother passed away. I needed a new suit or the ones I owned altered and I called Oakridge tailors and they said they would call me back about my plight. 15 minutes later they called me back and said come in as soon as you can and they will make it happen. My suits were too big and I only had a coupe of days and didn't have time to get a new one so they did their magic and tailored it enough to fit fairly well. I was very excited to meet William, and really wanted him to make me a suit. I don't think he is an actual tailor, more an alterationist, they didn't have any linings or basic tailoring notions in stock, and he asked me to bring my own. I was fine with that and when I delivered all my fabric he called me twenty minutes later to tell me he was too busy to make my suit, I don't think they are capable of delivering what he said would be a hand made suit. I did have my suspicions having had dozens of suits made in the past, so i was not that surprised. I just wish he would have been up front with me with regards to his skill level before I spent all the time to select materials and engage his services. Funny because I would have happily paid him any price he asked for if he could actually deliver. Alterations maybe, tailoring... no way. read more

Apparently these people do good work. Unfortunately, I will never know as they refused to even look at my suit. I bought a suit from Indochino that I was very pleased with, but needed about an inch of alterations on the pant and sleeve length. The young man who greeted me when I came in couldn't get me out of the store fast enough. They "don't deal with Indochino" is what he told me. He refused to even look at the very minor pant length adjustment I was hoping to have done. Pretty annoying after going out of my way to drive there. Luckily I found Tai Pan Tailors on West Broadway. They seem to specialize in high end custom suits, but were totally professional and polite to me. They had no problem adjusting my pant and sleeve length. If they could handle it so easily, why couldn't Oakridge Tailors have had a look at least? Tai Pan Tailors is a pleasure to deal with - unlike Oakridge Tailors. read more
