A few weeks ago I decided it was finally time to have a pair of pants repaired that had a tear along one of the seams. These pants are one of my favourites, even though they didn't cost much to begin with, they're comfortable and fit nicely. I started by shopping around, knowing that tailors pricing can vary widely. Being close to Metrotown, I started there. I was quoted $25 at two shops and $20 at another, with a turnaround of about a week. Fast forward to a day or two later and I found myself walking around New West with some time to kill. Again, pricing varied, but having read great things about Wizard I decided to pay them a visit. I will say the price quoted was not the cheapest of those I received in New West, but it wasn't far off. The tailor explained how she would fix the tear and that it would be ready early the next week. I agreed, and a receipt was given to me and the pants left for repair. Fast forward to the next week, my receipt was presented and the pants brought out. The tailor encouraged me to try them on and I did so. As far as I can see, they look and fit great, and it's hard to make out the repair with the naked eye. I'm pleased with the quality of the repair and will certainly be back to Wizard of Needles in the future. read more

Brides - please be aware of hidden fees as Wizard of Needles were not transparent or forthcoming about costs. Interestingly, this ordeal of finding an honest tailor was the most stressful part of the wedding process (not the dress shopping, venue or guest list. I contacted Lana (owner) and was able to schedule an appointment the following day and was beaming that I was able to score an appointment so quickly. Perhaps, that should be the first sign. At first glance, this tiny alteration shop was great. There were plenty of street parking and the space located on the second floor was clean. Lana was professional. However, I left feeling quite upset as I couldn't help feeling like I was misled and ripped off. I was quoted $375 to hem the bottom of my wedding dress and add a small waist belt. Although this quote (in my opinion) was not "competitive" by any means as Lana claimed. The low rating is not due to the cost as I believe that each tailor should charge the amount they feel is warranted for their work. Rather, it was the hidden $25 fitting fee that irks me. This fee was never once disclosed to me - during my initial call with Lana to set up the appointment nor was it mentioned on their website. In fact, Lana did not even mention this fee until I was changed and ready to leave, which I find very deceiving. Had she mentioned this fee even at the start of our appointment, I would feel more justified. The appointment was scheduled within normal business hours at a time-block she chose. Lana never even used any pins to mark the alteration, which illustrates minimal effort on her end. Overall, I was very disappointed with my experience due to the lack of dishonesty on their part. Even if the $25 fitting fee was deductible, the high cost and lack of transparency does not compel me to return to give them my business. I ended up going to Lilianne's Bridal, which cost half the price. Lilianne was sweet, attentive, and has over 34 years of experience. More importantly, honest...which goes along way for any business. read more

Lana is amazing, not only is she helpful, friendly and great seamstress she saved my dress so in my eyes she's a super hero! I bought a designer dress online and ordered my size, I usually don't have issues with buying online. But when I received it it was too small, wouldn't zip up all the way. I was planning to return it but I really loved the dress and could not part with it. I went online to look for a seamstress. Lana had great reviews, so I went to see her. Located in New West, small shop on the second floor. She was a lovely lady. She gave some ideas on what we can do to take the dress out. I needed extra fabric so I went to fabric store, Lana was nice enough to write down what I needed. I came back with extra fabric. I left my dress and she told me my dress should be ready in a couple of weeks. She quoted me $70. I called the day she said my dress would be ready. Unfortunately, she said it would still be several days. Which was fine there was no rush, I didn't need ti dress until the end of the month. To my surprise she called me later that afternoon and said come and try on the dress. She ended up doing a corset back, which was not the original plan and was more work for her and cost me more $100. But at the end it worked and looked good. I was also able to take my dress home that day. She did a great job. I look forward on wearing my dress. read more

I only had a small job but she was friendly, fast and quick to provide suggestion when something couldn't be fixed with existing buttons. Will definitely be going back. Bit hard to find though, small door near Rexall and up on 2nd floor. read more

Lana is a very skilled seamstress/tailor as well as a very pleasant, hard working woman. After moving from Vancouver to New Westminster I was looking for a seamstress closer to home. Without a doubt Lana is the best seamstress I have ever found. She is very meticulous and her work is excellent. Hemming a pair of pants is usually a simple task but when I recently picked up a pair of pants she explained that because the pants were an unusual colour she felt it necessary to remove and reuse the original thread in order to get the best match.
