DO NOT GO HERE!! I brought my dress to Miriam the day I finally got my dress from the shipping company for my wedding. It took three months to get, and before I brought my dress in I asked her if she has experience with wedding dresses. She said yes. Well, after a week of her having my dress she finally called me, for what I thought would be to pick up my dress. I was at work and could only call her back during my break which was 3 hours later. By that time she made the decision to shorten the second layer of my dress. Without my permission. I went in only once to drop my wedding dress off asking for the tule length of my outter layer of my dress to be shortened. This is the only thing I had asked her to do. As I do know cutting tule isn't rocket science but apparently for her it was. It was jagged and in the back the second layer was now longer on one side than the other after I had went in. She didn't measure anything she only pinned the tule layer. And she "measured" only one side of my dress to do the alteration for cutting it the same length all the way around. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MY FIRST RED FLAG. When I phoned her back when I had a moment at work she told me she took off length from the second layer of my dress which I did not ask for, ever once since meeting her. But instead of waiting to speak with me did it anyway. She also shortened my straps on my dress which I also did not ask for as it cut into my shoulders too much as they are spaghetti straps and very delicate. If anything they should have been lengthened. I go in today to see what she had done and the second layer in the back was longer then the tule layers. In the front the second layer it was longer on the left side and the tule was jagged not straight cut or even measured to make sure it was same length as all the layers around. The tule layer on the front left side ways 3 inches longer still. If she actually measured nothing would have happened. My dress was destroyed three days before I leave the country for my wedding. I have been in customer service for many years and don't believe my communication has been an issue. For whatever reason she is not a professional alteration company. She eye balls her work and ruined my dress. She couldn't fix what she ruined. Do not go here. Miriam will argue and make up lies and excuses for what she has done and clearly took the liberty to do things that weren't even asked for. My dress was expensive, it took 3 months to arrive and honestly she didn't even offer a solution other then trying to cut the dress while I was in it! Nope. You have to measure, you have to be precise. She never measured and she ruined the straps and ruined my whole experience with my dress. Do not go here!!! I have to pick one star to do this rating but I would give none! I would give a negative star! On top of it all I brought a friend for my witness to also take photos of my dress. Also to note how calm I was because she was crying so hard because she ruined my expensive dress she refused to pay for! As she clearly thought she was doing ME A FAVOR! Which she said to me. I don't know this woman from a hole in the wall! I walked in after I had phoned her to confirm she could do this work as an expert. She is not an expert! When I did not ask her to do anything else but to only evenly cut the outter tule length the same as the second layer as my dress. Do not go here!! read more

If you're looking for a great tailor/dressmaker to do alterations or any sewing, this is the place to go. It's owned and operated by a lovely Persian woman, Maryam Modares, who does impeccable work. I found her pricing to be very fair and the work completed promptly and on time. Her business, in operation for eight years, is located in a small pocket of interesting little neighbourhood shops and bistros also worth checking out in a residential area on Queensbury just off Grand Blvd. BTW, bring cash, it helps keep her costs down. I had brought my dress in back in July to have alterations done. I had to call to check if they were done early September and they had not been started yet. The dress was not pinned to fit, and I was under the impression it would be altered to fit my body which it was not. The bag I brought my dress in was ripped when returned to me, and not on the hanger I had brought in. When I asked about it I was blamed that I brought it in like that. Disappointed with the experience and the care when handling. I now have to have my dress fitted on rush. The work that was done was uneven on each side and the liner was not matched to the lace so the side stitching is uneven and needs to be redone. The top part still needs to be altered as well as the bottom which is way too big. I was told the work was sloppy and it didn't look professionally done. Posting so other brides can hopefully avoid this stress. read more

Unprofessional. Lack of attention to detail. Offensive. These are words that come to mind after my experience at Express Alterations today. In short, a simple request to have sleeves on a blazer shortened turned into a ruined blazer. Advanced notice was given to the owner that the material was likely unforgiving and it would likely leave a mark from old seams and button locations. After being told 'I guarantee this is not a problem' it was in the end a problem. No effort was made to verify what she was told. So I am left with sleeves with the buttons not in the right place, gouges in the fabric, seam lines which are inappropriate and was told I was still required to pay for her services. She says it is a 'perfect job.' This it is not. Upon a second trip to the shop to resolve the matter with a copy of web site showing where the jacket was from, how it looked prior to her 'work' and the price, she refused to offer compensation for a ruined item and demanded payment for her services. After a lengthy and heated discussion she told me to keep my money and leave. I would strongly warn anyone using this shop to reconsider. read more

I bought a suit for my son for grad. The blazer fit perfectly, but the pants were far too big. The store owner let me take the pants on approval, so I took them to Maryam at Express Alterations. I wasn't expecting her to be able to do anything much, but I was delighted with the result. I used to do a lot of sewing, so I know what to look for. She did an amazing job.
