The dream experience I have had with this practice began when I called in crisis over a temporary crown that was tipping over the edge into root canal. I said to the merciful angel who received my call that "I'm sorry you're meeting me at this point in my life, but my patience is at an end." The dental assistant, with whom I exchanged book recommendations, got me a blanket and neck pillow as they're playing Jack Johnson at a perfect volume as one overlooks a leafy panorama. Dr. Bandary, around whom this remarkable practice orbits, has a gentle and considered demeanor. He listened to my long neurotic explanations. He gave me time to fully arrive at the decision to move forward with the root canal. I didn't even realize that I needed time to think through the decision. He did. First, the office: Light and spacious. Procedures rooms have floor to ceiling windows with a view. So much nicer than staring at a wall. Staff: competent, pleasant and professional. I did a fair amount of hiring and training and noticed that right away. Had a brief talk with the doctor about hiring philosophy, it's apparent the office reflects a mature business and people philosophy. Doctors: I saw Dr. Banduri , very explanatory, he even whipped out out a big plastic tooth to answer a question. No sense of hurry. While I can't judge technique he seemed very careful and methodical, I have confidence in him that he cares about the outcomes. I don't write many reviews, but I owe Oakmont Endodontics a very thorough one because my experience at their clinic was quite frankly perfect. 1. Provided that you actually supply them with accurate insurance information (if applicable) ahead of time, you'll know upfront what the patient responsibility is right before any consult or treatment occurs and not be slammed with hidden costs at the time of payment. I appreciate their transparency and efficiency! My notoriously nightmarish luck with medical billing departments forces me to go out of my way to check things ahead of time in general, but with Oakmont, the whole process was seamless. 2. Karina spoke with me on the phone a few times, and she was kind, understanding, and patient about all of my concerns. I wanted an estimate on what I might pay if I were to receive treatment at the clinic (she also let me know that she would not be able to give an exact quote as she of course couldn't exactly diagnose me on the phone) ahead of time, and she delivered despite her busy schedule. I noticed that when she called me back, it was basically right as they were closing; I never want people to work even a minute past closing and am grateful for the fact that she went out of her way to ensure I heard back early enough to get my funds in order. 2. I also spoke with Shelby on the phone at one point, and she was the person assisting Dr. Bandary throughout the procedure the day of as well. She was also incredibly patient and empathetic. One thing I want to note is that when I asked about COVID hygiene practices at the clinic as someone living with high risk individuals, she immediately offered to wear a KN95 mask. Typically, I settle for air purifiers as many medical facilities seemingly have stopped masking, which forces me to be extra cautious at home after exposure; this was the first time that the staff at a clinic offered to mask, and it means so, so much to me. I actually was fully prepared to ask at the front desk the day of just to confirm that they would remember their offer to mask, but when I went in, Shelby was already wearing one and told me she would inform the doctor prior to beginning the actual treatment. I was blown away. I'm used to healthcare professionals invalidating my concerns, not respecting them. 3. Shelby was also very gentle with me throughout all the diagnostic procedures (high tech!) and the root canal treatment I received. She walked me through everything, and even the way she knew to guide me throughout the facility was effortless. It made everything feel much more accessible, and having had rather terrible experiences in healthcare settings regarding issues of consent or being straight up dismissed, it was wonderful to be cared for so thoroughly. I wasn't nervous in the least. (I should add that even through the very end when I was paying, she went out of her way to let me know that I'd maxed out my insurance benefits for the year and should expect to pay a lot out of pocket for my crown at my regular dental clinic.) 4. This clinic even offers you headphones to help you stay occupied with something else through long treatments. They even have adapters/dongles to complement your mobile device. In fact, they actually ask you if you need one; I didn't ask for it first or anything. 5. I feel incredibly fortunate to have met Dr. Bandary. First, he answered all my questions thoroughly and put my mind at ease, referring to the actual x-rays on the screen so I could follow along. Second, I'm no stranger to being numbed for dental treatments, and the anesthesia is the part I always fear the most due to horrid experiences I've had with dentists jabbing me very aggressively. Dr. Bandary has a steady, gentle hand and administered the injections beautifully. They barely hurt! When he tested my sensitivity with what looked like some kind of ice, I felt absolutely nothing, which meant that he was able to numb me successfully in one go. I'm not always so lucky. As for the actual root canal treatment itself, it was completely painless and as efficient as that kind of thing could possibly be, I'd imagine. 10/10, if I had to get another one in the future, I'd book an appointment with Dr. Bandary again. He's clearly as skilled as all the other reviewers have said. 6. I also didn't experience much pain other than the expected, unavoidable bit of tenderness in the area after the treatment. Dr. Bandary gave me some painkillers to take regardless, but I really have been fine. I no longer have the excruciating toothaches and other peripheral pains associated with that tooth. I can take hot baths again, and I can drink water without wincing. It's been pretty much a decade since I've started living with some level of pain in that tooth, and I cannot express adequately how relieving this has been for me. I'm in my 60s and hadn't had a root canal for 25 years, so trust me here, I wasn't looking forward to it. Throughout my life I've had problems with my teeth, so I keep them very clean, flossing, and brushing frequently. During the pandemic, I slipped in the bathtub and was concussed, cracking one of my prized upper molars. I had to have it extracted. Ugh. You need your molars! Well after 2 1/2 years of the tooth on the opposite side, doing all the work, this upper bicuspid got infected and was ready for a root canal. I found Dr. Bandary on Yelp . He was God-sent. He received his undergrad degree from USC and went to the UCLA School of Dentistry. We established a root canal would be needed through a series of the most modern x-rays I have ever seen. He has invested a lot of money in his practice to make everything state of the art. A technician merely aims a hand held apparatus at the outside of your mouth and clicks a picture. No uncomfortable, plastic and metal need be held in your mouth while they take an x-ray. For the sedation, I don't use a topical, and one wasn't necessary anyway, as his lidocaine injection was flawless. To allay any fears, he communicates with the patient as he works. I appreciated that. The tooth had an abscess, and in two visits Dr. Bandary had removed the infected roots, flushed out the opening so it would be absolutely sterile in there, closed it up, and put a temporary closure so that my dentist can now put in a post and seal it permanently. I rose from the seat smiling, relieved I had had such an intelligent and experienced endodontist to take care of a problem that, in all honesty. I had dressed for two weeks. Don't do that to yourself; when you go to a really experienced clinician, there is no need to be frightened. Dr. Bandary and his team has exceeded my expectations. After having to come in to have a re-treatment of my root canal, I was very nervous to have to go through the process and get another root canal. It was discovered that I had an extra canal that was missed during my first root canal so I was sent to see this specialist: I have to say the level of care and attention of detail that Dr. Bandary had provided me was amazing. This is by far the best root canal experience I have ever had with little to no pain. I had very little to no discomfort. I hate needles and Dr. Bandary always made sure that I was comfortable and felt no pain during procedure. It was two procedures in a course of a couple weeks I was told from the very beginning that there was a 50-50 chance of my tooth being saved but Dr. Bandary said he would try his best. No one ever wants to get a root canal, but if you need one, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Bandary. He has great communication skills and manages all your expectations during each step of the procedure. I literally felt NO PAIN and even in the hours after the procedure, totally forgot I had any procedure done at all.
