I've seen many dentists, many of them good and unfortunately a few bad ones too. Once you find a great dentist though, you hang onto them. I've been with my dentist for 17 years, 10+ of those years moved up to the Bay Area and making the 5-6hr commute back and forth. Well, life happens and during my last check with Most Awesome General Dentist; turns out I need a root canal and was recommended to Dr. John Pratte as a "Diplomate" dentist. What is that? Others were a nightmare. I changed my dental insurance to make sure I can go to Dr. Pratte. He is the best. I've referred so many people to him and told my dentist to refer all her patients to him. The other endontists are a nightmare. I've been going to him for over 20 years. Everyone I referred to him was so pleased. I fear when he retires there's just no one as good as him. I had a root canal and it went really well. No issues with the procedure. The reason I'm giving three stars is that I was charged $493 for nitrous oxide! I wasn't told about this cost until the procedure was about to start so I felt a little backed into a corner and did it anyway since I was anxious about the whole thing. For reference, the same sedation at any other office is usually $25-$90. Felt a little sneaky and I left the whole visit feeling taken advantage of. read more

Needed a root canal and was referred to Dr. Pratte by Dr. Beck. I like Dr. Pratte's personality and approach to his profession. His office staff is just as great of people. Unfortunately for me, a root canal was needed to be done through my gums which meant oral surgery for me. Fortunately, I had Dr. Pratte! Was referred here for a root canal. He was able to fit me in earlier than another dentist thank goodness!! Don't get me wrong, I hate the idea of getting a root canal, but with all the pain I was in plus having to take pain meds just to get through the day, I was looking forward to this appointment. The waiting area is a little small, but nice looking with many magazines to choose from. I needed to use the restroom badly (nerves) and it was nice and clean. When my name was called, I was led to the room where I was to sit and wait to be seen by the dentist. Dr. Pratte was very nice and explained things very well. His assistant was also very nice and she showed pictures and explained very well also as to what to expect. The only "pain" I felt was when he needed to numb me prior to the procedure. He lets quite a bit of time go by in order to make sure you are numb. Make sure you grab a magazine during that time. The procedure went well and was pain free. I've been back for my follow up visit and so far so good. No pain!! I highly recommend him and his staff. Call first to see if they take your dental insurance. Plenty of free parking in a shared lot. Dr. Pratte's staff: Lourdes, Ruth, and Maria get a shout out from me for being such gracious ladies! They were so kind and very attentive to my needs. I had to come in for an emergency root canal and the type of care they took to make sure I was comfortable was amazing. Dr. Pratte was recommended to me by my other dentist, Dr. Kim, and I'm glad she sent me to him. He has great bedside manners, and super nice. His staff showed us what would happen during our procedure to help put us at ease, and that's such a plus. I'm not a fan of needles, but when came time for the Novocain, well, somehow the pain of the needle wasn't important because he and Ruth showed so much care and helped me forget my pain. The time it took to get processed in with paperwork, the Novocain, and the root canal itself was about an hour and a half. Not too bad, I've waited longer, so they were on top of things. I highly recommend Dr. Pratte's office and again I give all sorts of praise for him and his team! read more

GREAT PLACE TO GO FOR A ROOT CANAL =================================== I've visited Dr. Pratte's office a few times in the past. The first time I had a test to see if I needed a root canal and I didn't. I was overjoyed. A couple years later I needed to go back. An old crown and cavity had caused some problems and my luck ran out. I needed a root canal. The actual root canal was not bad at all. I'd say just bring something to listen to with your earbuds so you can ignore the drilling and stuff. Dr. Pratte and his staff are wonderful. Just finished the process of getting my first ever root canal which began last June 2016. While not something I would want to do on a regular basis, I have to say it was nothing that I expected and to his staff and the Dr. Pratte my procedure was not memorable. Which I would think is better than one that was memorable. When I was called to come in for my post follow-up x-ray visit I didn't even remember and even better, feel that I had a root canal done. Quality treatment! Office is Zen'd out!- Calming, Meditative. Comfy Couches. Potted plants. Am I in a Dental office? Or in a Spa in Sedona? Front desk staff is "sorta" friendly though in all honesty they could be a little nicer given that the endodontist is already such a scary place for so many of us! Rooms are also very Zen. Restroom is clean and smells good. Plenty of parking overlooking the 210 freeway. The main reason to come here is Dr. Pratte. He is reserved and focused on his work but does not seize to be friendly and informative. We talked about my "soon-to-be living on a student budget" and he explained to me that it was not smart to purchase a dental plan unless it came as part of your work/student benefits. He shared his expertise in for the cost and the deductible did not amount to much savings at the end of the day in effect may even turn out to be more costly. I really appreciated this information. As a woman coming into her own in the world, maneuvering around insurance companies and management companies and taxes and such; it's always nice to get this kind of advice from a professional in the field! Dr Pratte was also fortunate to drill into my mouth and undo an old root canal. I was heavily medicated (which helped a lot)! He was fast and efficient. And did not take longer than necessary in drilling and probing into my mouth. I am going to give this office 5 stars (and give them the benefit of the doubt) though my one BIG complain is that I was there for over an hour between the time they injected me with the anesthesia and the time the Dr actually came to work on my tooth. I know you are supposed to wait for the medication to take effect, but i feel like i waited a little too long. Though in their defense, they did fit me into their schedule when i got a same day appointment, and i did get great service from the Doctor and the staff during my visit. read more

Dr. pratte is the first dentist/endo that has done any work at all to my teeth. I have always feared getting shots in my mouth and now I have to get two tooth canals. One down so far. I wanted to cry from relief I literally didn't feel a thing or a poke at all. He was already halfway done before he said ok sorry it's taking so long I'm doing it slow do it doesn't hurt. I thought he was holding my mouth open with the mirror but it was the shot. It took him 20 minutes if that the first session then 15 the next. He was great. I only needed Advil after. I have had three root canals done in my lifetime (no joke!), and the best one came from Dr. Pratte. At the initial first appointment I was given a tremendous amount of information about root canals, and details about my particular procedure. At the end, I knew what to expect. The actual root canal was done during a second appointment. Dr. Pratte is so good at the art of root canals that he can probably do them in his sleep! Once he started on my procedure, he was real smooth - he just knocked it right out. Boom, boom, boom, and I was done. No discomfort whatsoever. Very caring and professional staff. Quick, easy, and surprisingly painless (it's probably because he starts you off with a few baby anesthesia shots, let's it kick in--then goes in for a few more that you hardly feel, and you're straight). The whole staff are really sweet and helpful. And I love the zen-like atmosphere. Huge bonus for me is that Doc plays music while he's working on you (classical, calming music). He has his team explain the actual procedure and answers any questions you may have. 4 stars because when those first few shots are settling in, you're chillin' there for about 30-45mins when it actually starts kicking in after 5mins. :/ read more

Wish I could give Dr. Pratte 6 stars! Long story short - Dr Pratte saved a tooth that my dentist had basically given up trying to save. I had a crown with a post become reinfected - my regular dentist basically told me that going in and removing the post to perform a root canal would damage the tooth beyond repair and to just start thinking about a dental implant or a bridge. Dr Pratte after the consultation agreed with me that it's worth trying to save - I had nothing to lose. He was able to go through the crown, remove the post and perform the needed root canal all without one ounce of pain. PAINLESS - I swear. read more
