Whoever came up with the idea to put hot honey on it amazing. I couldn't see and cheese because of how much pepperoni was on it. I only had a small slice while I was there. My wife calls it "fancy food." She has a simple palate- kind of a "meat and potatoes" gal. So when we made our way to check out Oak Wood Fire Kitchen after meeting the owner at Ginger Street downtown, she was a little hesitant. The menu boasts unique dishes, with a bit more class than the traditional restaurant you might find in the area. Based on the large stove in the middle of the kitchen, these guys specialize in pizza. However, I'm very picky with what toppings I like on my pizza, and our server said I could not make my own custom pie, so I opted for something different. Maybe a more adventurous pizza eater will fall in love with something in my behalf. Or maybe I'll step out of my comfort zone and try something different. As long as I can get it without cheese. We ordered the chicken pot pie and the gorgonzola steak salad. The choice of the salad was made when another patron nearby was eating one-it looked so good, my wife wanted to have the same thing. The chicken pot pie was different than I expected. It came with an enormous biscuit in a skillet, with heavy sauce, veggies and chicken underneath. The flavor was good and the biscuit was amazingly flaky. I wish there had been a bit more chicken in it. The atmosphere here is trendy and hip-you can tell someone put a lot of work into the décor, the vibe and the ambience. Most of the staff are very young, and they are friendly. I worked in Draper for two years, then worked downtown, and now work in Draper again and have for a year. I'm not sure why it took me so long to try this place, but my boss picked it for his birthday lunch, so in we came. We got seated right away--no wait. Plenty of distance from other tables if you're worried about that. The service was good. Our food came out super fast. I got the Nashville chicken sandwich with salad. I guess the salad comes with a light dressing on it, which I didn't know, so I asked for blue cheese. I'm glad I did because I usually don't like arugula with vinaigrette. The salad had macadamia nuts on it which was a different touch. I liked it. The sandwich was huge. I had to take a knife and fork to it. It was really yummy. I loved the pickles and sauce on it. It was a tiny bit spicy, but not too bad. My bosses both got burgers. The fries are natural cut with peel on it, so I'd like to go back one day and try them. (I love fries.) I hadn't eaten here since ownership and the menu changed a few years back so decided to satiate my curiosity. The decor has been updated and there is now a small patio for eating al fresco. Clean and well-lit, Our server Charlotte was very cordial and pleasant and a significant help in deciding which plates to order. She was the only server there for lunch this Wednesday and had not only us and another table of two, but a party of 10 and another of 20+ -- and still pulled it off. OAK, get this poor woman some freaking help! We started off with a small plate of honey sriracha wings and a charcuterie. The wings were the perfect combination of spicy and sweet and I'm willing to bet those in your friends group who can't stand heat would probably be okay with one of these. Delicious! It was an extremely large wing and the first one I've ever had to eat with a fork. The charcuterie was fine; the meats and cheeses were in good shape and went together but overall pretty nondescript. The Wagyu steak was as tender and flavorful as the name promised, though a little small (I would have liked another couple slices). It was served with a red wine bordelaise sauce that was tangy and yummy and I ended up covering my fries with it too. The fries were damn near perfect, crispy but not burnt, generously covered in spices and I was not able to finish them as it was a large serving (better to leave some in the plate than leave hungry, eh?). Alas, my wife's order of Nashville chicken sandwich is what dropped the rating down. Her chicken was overcooked to the point that I was able to tap the end of the butter knife against it and hear a knock. The breading was hard and darkened as a result. Inside, the dark meat was drier than it needed to be and further testified to the state of the chicken. She did not finish it and found it a disappointment. I gave this a "good" rating because of the service, Mateo flinging dough all up in the sky, tantalizing honey sriracha wings and a delicious Wagyu steak and frites things. However, to earn additional stars, OAK needs to fix the Nashville chicken cooking issue -- it was not a small matter that could be overlooked because it was my wife's entree. I also could use just even two more slices of the steak in the entree. Please consider small wipes available for those who order the wings. Those things can get messy. read more

Visited Oak Wood Fire Kitchen with a friend this past week and I was disappointed. We were the only customers in the building when we were seated. My friend was served within 20 minutes of being seated. I was told by my server that my food would be out shortly. I waited 20+ minutes for my meal to come out. During that time, I watched a family of six be seated and served all of their meals. There's no excuse for this wait because I watched the server bring out the same meal I ordered to another party. I went here several years ago for pizza & I remember it being delicious. It's been a while though but I ended up going here for brunch recently. We ordered the Baked Goat Cheese pizza, which seemed a little weird for brunch but I'm telling you right now, you need this in your life!! We actually saw someone else order this & we knew we needed it. It was the most delicious appetizer type pizza I've ever had. It's located under the pizzas on the menu, but definitely more of an appetizer feel to it. It comes out with a kind of puff pizza dough base covered with ricotta & goat cheese with a marinara dipping sauce. So yummy, I'm drooling just thinking about it. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, minus ham. It was pretty good, I'm not a big pesto person & I always forget that until I order something with pesto. This has a pesto sauce on it but overall it was pretty good. The breakfast potatoes were delicious! I really enjoyed these. My date ordered the Biscuits & Gravy. He liked it. I tried the biscuits & a little bit of the gravy & it was pretty good! The gravy was pretty filled with meat though so I didn't try a lot of the gravy. Highly recommend this place. We got the meatball appetizer. It came with 3, sauce and that yummy Oak Bread. I loved the bread more, dipped in the marinara sauce. Meatballs could have used a little more seasoning. Hubby got the Oak Burger and fries. I got the Nashville and tomato bisque soup. Bowl of soup was big and good. I'm picky about my soup and its nice and thick. Absolutely LOOOOOVED the food here. Showed up at 5:30 on a Saturday and already there was a 45min wait! Crazy! And to make things even crazier when we were seated we were told the pizza kitchen was too backed up and we couldn't order pizza... which was strange considering this is largely a pizza place! After asking our server very nicely, they agreed to let us place a pizza order and it did not disappoint!! We also had 2 appetizers - the cheese curds and the goat cheese with oak bread. Both were INCREDIBLE!!! Get the appetizers!! The pizza was also amazing. The crust was to DIE for (I'm pretty sure the oak bread that came with the goat cheese is the same as the bread crust). Truly the best pizza crust I've had in my life. Definitely recommend! Maybe just come on a weekday when it's less busy. read more

This is one of my new very favorite restaurants I have been to in the salt lake valley. This restaurant is nice because it is fairly small so it doesn't feel overwhelmingly crowded, but it is definitely full. The food here is incredible!! They have a fabulous menu that is hard to choose from. I've heard amazing things about the baked goat cheese so I had to try it and I wasn't disappointed. The creamy goat cheese contrasted with the red sauce, while dipped in oven fired bread was to die for! We also tried the ribs which were a tough spicy, but also sweet and again, amazing. We also tried the sweetheart pizza, pineapple, ham and red onions which was very good. I think the best part of the pizza was the perfectly cooked thin crust so I'm sure you can't go wrong with any of the pizzas. While there we saw many people ordering the fried cauliflower. Our waitress said that is one of the most popular items. I will be trying that next time!! Service was fabulous. Loved my experience here! read more

The crème brûlée French toast didn't have much crème brûlée flavor - it's regular French toast, with some gooey crème fraiche topping. My burger came out wrong, but I didn't realize until the waitress mentioned it. The beef tastes like Costco's frozen angus patties. They put one, giant piece of Romaine lettuce sticking out of both sides. The fries are over seasoned with Johnny's (that's my guess on the flavor). The server seemed swamped, but she was nice and checked on us. We'd like to give this place another chance with the dinner time menu that looked more interesting than brunch. read more

Things I didn't get pictures of that we ordered - pepperoni pizza and the hot chicken sandwich. I've been here twice now and most recently was during brunch. Their brunch menu is a bit limited which was kind of a bummer but I would come again definitely for the option to try more. Their house salad is probably one of the best I've had in the whole valley. The beignets are NOT beignets at all. Especially if you've had true NOLA beignets you can look at these and see, they are not. Visiting Utah and stopped by Oak Wood Fire kitchen. The ambience is nice and food looked good until the service was a huge let down. My server took our order and got our fries and mule out fast. We also ordered steak and frittes and a hot honey pep pizza. 45 minutes passes by and our entrees still hasn't came out. We finally asked our server where our our food was. Here she comes with both of our plates not even 2 mins later. As she places the plates down, the steak frittes specifically, she says "sorry for the wait, this is the longest dish." I was confused and thought it's just fries and a piece of steak that's not even cooked all the way through, but whatever. The steak looked old and gray like it was sitting out. So I reach for a fry and it was cold. I felt the steak, even colder... the fact this server, her name started with an M, lied to my face for one of their mistakes set me off. She offered a $40 gift card but I declined since we're not from UT, and checked out for the dry and mule. Ridiculous service. I should've applied that $40 gift card to our bill, come to think of it... Very disappointing. read more

Came here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon and we ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich w/side salad and the Papa Juan. The side salad (so tasty!) was great compliment for the sandwich, the sandwich itself probably could've been a little more spicy. The Papa Juan was lacking seasoning on the carne asada and honestly it would be better with a chorizo sausage. The fried cauliflower is a MUST try. Never knew how "hearty" and filling this appetizer can be. The breading on this reminded me of eating breaded fish. Crunchy on the outside and "flaky" texture inside. Perhaps not the best description but it's delicious! Trust me, I'm Yelp Elite. *Winks* I ordered the short rib gnocchi and the whole thing just had one soft squishy texture so it was ok. The short rib by itself was pretty good as it was extremely tender and I probably didn't have to chew to eat it. The gnocchi was really soft and each little "dumpling" tasted like a mini mashed potato. It's definitely fresh and made in house, but too soft for me. The flavor was also a little bland. Because there was no "bite" or some sort of crunch from a vegetable, I didn't like it. The Pappardelle bolognese was delicious and I wanted to trade plates! I only had a bite, but it's something I would get next time. I'm not a fan of Neapolitan style pizza so I didn't bother with that side of the menu HOWEVER! The place itself is very comforting, overall clean and good lighting. The service is good and they're very nice but they tend to forget things a lot, can't give a proper menu tour or recommendations and feels a little like they're unexperienced. They do compensate on that with how much they're willing to help you. Food was alright, I tried the "chicken bbq pizza" which tasted pretty good and dough was to my liking but nothing crazy. The "Oak burger" has very nice quality meat and tastes great, but even having nice pickles and lettuce it lacks crunch and acidity, it's a little too rich. But pretty yummy overall. Now the BAKED GOAT CHEESE and the SKILLET COOKIE are really really good. Please don't be scared of getting the goat cheese because I would drive 30 minutes just to eat that, price is totally worth it.
