We only stayed at this hotel for one night. You check in at the diner next store (new experience). Everyone was very friendly. Our room was very clean and nice. We paid $117 for a room with two queen beds and free breakfast. I'm surprised to read all the negative reviews, since we had a pleasant stay. This is definitely not a luxury hotel, but it had everything we needed with a nice clean room and a great workout room. read more

I stayed here because I was traveling with two dogs in the dead of winter and we wanted a room. i was attracted to the no extra charge for pets, which seems to be a rarity these days. Though it didn't end up being any cheaper than if i stayed elsewhere and paid the extra ten bucks. The room was fine and large and the man who checked me in at the diner was super nice. The internet was pretty slow and i soon gave up the www dot for some comedy central that didn't have to reboot every ten minutes. Mainly Oak Tree gets two stars off because after skipping a few showers and driving in way way way below zero weather I was really looking forward to steaming the place up and warming all the way to the bones. One star because the water just never got that hot and another because the water was coming down so hard and in such little streaks that it hurt. No really. I have never been so pained by a shower. It was like being cut with water. I was pressed all the way to the back part of the shower trying not to get hit directly with it, but that is kind of the point of taking a shower- to be directly hit with water, so I gave up and just turned the heater way up instead. Last week, this hotel became part of the Wyndham hotel chain as a Belmont Inns hotel, so it seems like some of these older reviews are no longer accurate. As I-80 closed in front of us on the way to Denver for Christmas, I scrambled to find a pet friendly hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the hotel was quiet, and Penny's Diner offered a good dinner and free, tasty, custom cooked, generous portion breakfast. Despite the minimalist staffing approach (you check in at the diner, not at a desk in the hotel), the staff was attentive, very friendly and made us feel welcome. This hotel was a bright spot in a very rough day of travel, and I really appreciated it. read more

--Star rating is always in comparison to other similarly priced establishments-- This place had the oddest check-in I've ever encountered. All business was handled in the diner attached to the hotel. Really odd! On the plus side you get a coupon to eat there at the diner (we didn't or I'd give a quick review). The gym in the hotel was large; my husband was disappointed we had gotten in so late at night. Our room was large and clean with plenty of towels. The mattresses were extremely hard. The pillows were also hard but that was a nice change of pace for me - I hate hotel pillows that are so wimpy that you have to pile two or three to support your neck. read more

I would never stay here again. My daughter and her family were moving to Denver from Portland, OR and as fate had it, we found ourselves needing two rooms for the night in Rawlins. With a 1 and 3.5 year old in our car, after nearly 450 miles behind us that day, we were done. We called all around town about 125 miles prior to arriving in Rawlins and discovered this town fills up fast. As they are the last town with lodging for more than another 100 miles or so, we knew we had to grab the rooms that Oak Tree Inn had available. The staff was really sweet and welcoming. 1 of 2 rooms wasn't bad, but my room was gross! It was a pet friendly room which gave me pause, but with few options we took it. Apparently pet friendly means that the room smells like the last unbathed stinky dog that stayed there. I like dogs, but I don't want to smell them, especially if it's because they stink. I would have opened my door or window but the crew outside my room used the corner of the building to smoke and drink for apparently most of the night - very thoughtfully (NOT) leaving multiple empty packs of cigarettes and an empty 5th of something on the grass for someone else to deal with. Who can be bothered with picking up after themselves?! I ended up spraying my pillow with my perfume. The cleaning crew started knocking on my door about 08:00, that was right after the flee jumped on my arm, so I was ready to get out of there anyway, but not all travelers are on work crews getting up before the sun, and when possible I like to sleep when I'm exhausted, or at least be able to drink a cup of coffee before heading out. My grand daughter spent the night in my room and that doesn't really allow for consistent sleep. Overall if I knew I was going to land in Rawlins again I would make a reservation at the Comfort Inn down the road. To add insult to injury, this stinky room cost a lot more then any other room we stayed in while heading to Colorado, and the breakfast offerings were the worst as well. read more

This was the grossest hotel I have EVER stayed. I've stayed at motel 6's that were much, much nicer and definitely cleaner. The carpet had clearly not even been vacuumed, it has debris everywhere, plus IT STINKS! Really. The walls were dirty. The pillow cases were dirty. This place was so low budget, without the low budget price. We paid 90.00 for this room. If we hadn't been driving for 518 miles and had already paid when we reserved yesterday, sight unseen, we would have left. Do yourself a big favor a find another hotel. read more

Extra star added because the price was low. This is NOT comparable to a pricier hotel! That said, it's an excellent value, particularly if you're traveling with pets. The staff are very friendly, the rooms are very quiet (or I got lucky), the black-out curtains are insanely effective, the internet is reliable, and it's very clean. Well, the carpets will need replacing sooner rather than later, but it's clean for a place that accepts pets and (worse) children - they clearly vacuum well enough. Also the free breakfast in the attached restaurant is a really sweet thought. I enjoyed my oatmeal. This is a great choice of a stop-over as you travel from one city to another. Two flaws: my tub didn't drain well enough to keep up with the extremely high water pressure, and the treadmill in the gym was broken. read more

It's bad enough I have to stay in this hole because of work, they are now owned by wyndham and now they have started boycotting the NRA. This place is awful. I would go as far as saying this is easily in the bottom 5 hotels in Rawlins. I have to stay here about every 3 days or so. I have been staying here since 2006 and it has always been the same dive. First of all the front desk isn't even in the hotel. I've had so many problems here that I can't possibly list them all but I'll list a few. Numerous cases of bed bugs, dirty sheets, dirty towels, lucky if rooms been vacuumed, only a couple front desk people or housekeepers worth a damn ever at one time, I've had ticks in my room, boogers on the wall and ceiling, washcloths dirty and sitting on top of the shower, used soap, heaters and a.c. units not working, hotel and diner went over a month without hot water. I'll stop now but I could go on all day. With that said there are a few employees there and they know who they are that are way too good for this place and really need to go somewhere else where they are appreciated. After all of this and now wyndham comes out and boycotts the NRA, if you're going to do something like that keep your Businesses out of Wyoming and stay in New York and California. read more

The last three summers we have stayed at all the big chains including Choice Hotels (Quality Inn, Comfort Inn, etc.), Holiday Inn Express, Best Western, etc. and this was the best of the lot. It was a wonderful clean room, excellent bed, good price and no problems whatsoever. The breakfast at the Penny's Diner surpasses all "continental" efforts anywhere. I will now seek out Oak Tree Inns. read more
