One night, perfect cost. Breakfast (coffee and granola bar) available the next morning in lobby. We arrived in the evening and got checked in. The building front and yard art out front was really unique. Drift wood decorations, one was an entire horse. Lots of paintings line the walls of the entrance way. The old hotel sign reads Ralins Western Lodge, but it's in the shape of an old key. Check in was easy, the gentleman was kind and we were given a real key for our door. The bedroom was clean. King size bed. Very comfy bed, unique decor. I liked the big wood pieces for headboard. Clean bathroom and good water pressure. Note: place is close to the train tracks and they are sporadic through out the night. Also if you are early riser, the front desk wasn't manned. There was a sign to leave your key and/or call if you need something. Worked for us perfectly. read more

A Rawlins Gem! The Key Motel has been given a new lease on life and the rates are GREAT. It has been remodeled from top to bottom, with a mountain/western art theme. Barnwood accents the bright hallways. Flatscreeen tv in your room and brand new comfortable mattresses with white euro style freshly laundered coverlets. Yahoo-no bedspreads! Your newly painted and carpeted room will have new furniture, lamps, refrigerator, bottled waters, and a coffemaker. There is lots of parking for your rig in the back. Outside are some ratty chairs and a bbq grill, but picnic tables are being made as replacements. Don't let those chairs get in your way of staying here, the atmosphere is quiet. The train that rolls through nearby does not blow it's horn. We paid $74.00 for a King. Our stay was nice. Needed a place to stay for the night. Decent size for 2 Queen beds. Only down fall was the shower. There was a metal piece that shot water straight out while water ran..? Other than that, check-in & check-out was easy&quick. read more

I love this place!! What a classic motel with such charm & great service. Awesome awesome awesome! They should film a movie here. It's like a time capsule. They have clean fluffy Costco towels, and it was clean. It was clean, it was classic, and it was $53!! What a steal!! Much better than staying in a chain. There is a good Chinese place next door called Asian Bistro. Or, Rose's Lariat looked good, but closes at 7pm.....it's a very small town. If you are a European or Asian tourist looking for American Western charm, this is your place! They allow dogs! And there is an vast open space to walk them across the street. read more

It's called Rawlins Western Lodge now, but it's still an awesome motel. Driving from California to Michigan, we ended up staying here because it was the lowest price we could find in Rawlins. We were extremely surprised & happy with our stay. The guy at the front desk was very friendly, our rooms were very comfortable & clean. It had an old western theme, very comfy bed with heavy down blankets. Our room even had a fridge in it, which was a nice feature. It feels like a B&B, very happy with our stay & would definitely stay again. It's also pet-friendly which helped since we have 2 pit pups. Check it out. :) read more

We stayed here as we passed through while on a roadtrip. We arrived late at night. The place is very simple and it needs a lot of upgrades. The beds are average. The room was rundown and could use upgrades. The bathtub had a crack in the middle, the water pressure was extremely low and the WIFI was not working in the building. Which sucked for us because trying to do college work while staying here was not possible. Even phone service is so low here that I couldn't pull up a hotspot from our phones. I love this hotel. It has rustic charm in spades! We were greeted promptly by a friendly gentleman, who I assume is the owner. We were checked in quickly and pointed towards the various amenities this place has to offer it's guests. My wife and I are traveling across the country, staying in various hotels of the same caliber and found our room here to be the most generous in size, along with a very comfortable king sized bed, love seat and a fair sized bathroom. I really wanted to like this motel due to the good reviews on Trip Advisor and the fact that the owner is a very nice fellow (former) okie, but the fact is, I would not stay there again without seeing the room first. Our party was large, so we got 2 rooms. The one on the first floor near the front was nice and fit the descriptions of previous reviewers. Our room upstairs near the back of the hotel wasn't as nice. Note pictures of dirty toilet and nasty bathtub drain. I decided to wait to bathe my grubby 6yo until we got home the next night. The price was good and the hotel overall is nicely decorated, updated, and mostly clean, but be sure and view your room before you commit. read more

AKA Rawlins Western Lodge. Passed through on my way to CA. Great place to crash. Clean, everything we needed including recommendations for dinner and dog friendly! Yes, it's not as new as the places down the street but it was quiet, really comfortable bed, and plenty of channels on the tv. Just what we needed after a long day of driving. The lobby coffee area has real instructions for riding a stagecoach, from an 1877 newspaper article. I gave the front desk guy the phone to my corporate accounting office; they settled the credit card payment I the first attempt. They are only two miles from i80, on U.S.80. . ---- Chat with actual Rawlins locals. This motel has authentic western atmosphere. . ---- There's a Chinese buffet called Rice-and-Noodles next door, with $6-$13 entrees. There's a Do-It-Best hardware next to the Chinese buffet, and an O'Reilly auto parts store across the street. And there's a Wal-Mart about a mile down the road. . It's at the start of the mountains, and it's just hilly enough for travelers to enjoy spectacular western wide-open beauty. Its cozy and quaint. But you won't have to fork over your own money, then beg your company for later reimbursement. read more

The Key was the first motel (after checking several) with vacancy. We were traveling with our two little girls and were hoping to stay the night in Rawlins and make it the rest of the way home the following morning. I don't mind cheap and outdated as long as it is clean and functional. The room appeared stained but the linen initially looked clean. The room had a very strong odor of Pine-Sol (so strong that I opened the window and turned on the fan to circulate some air). There was no drain stopper in the shower so I was unable to bathe the kids, which would have been tolerable had there been warm water. However, at 8pm, I couldn't even get the water to lukewarm. The lady at the front desk offered a different room; after testing the water in the second room, which barely reached lukewarm, we were ready to switch rooms but there was only one bed (instead of the two we paid for). This room appeared much more dingy and the floor was terribly soiled. My husband asked that the owner be contacted to arrange for some type of discount. None was offered and so we demanded a refund of our $96 and drove through the night to get home instead. Clearly, we decided it wasn't worth even staying in Rawlins if this is the only option. Rawlins is currently inundated with increased population for the oil and gas fields, so I understand why the hotel/motels can get away with charging tons of money for subpar rooms. However, given the rates and poor quality of these rooms, in my husband's words, "The owner is a slumlord." read more

This place is good quality and inexpensive! I have come up to Rawlins for work for a few years now and have always been pleased with my stay here. It is warm, clean and has a true western Wyoming feel to it. I was surprised when I went to write this review that the price range was listed as so high when the place is actually quite affordable. My husband stayed at this motel after I checked reviews on Tripadvisor. It had lengthy reviews that I didn't realize were obviously planted by the owner. My husband is not nearly as fussy as I am but said the place is a dirty rundown ripoff. Worst motel he ever stayed at. The owner has had extensive contact with us trying to justify his horrible conditions. He is obviously in denial about the condition of his motel. The towels were very nice and the 400 thread count sheets were nice but the bedspread was old the furniture really beat up and the bathroom had hair around the toilet and on the floor and pink mold growing above the shower. Read the Tripadvisor reviews and think about how many reviews have so much detail about a motel that most of us never even think of. Like new windows. Rawlins Western Lodge is delightful surprise for an older motel. It has been extensively renovated by a new owner who added taste and charm. Arriving after dark, I chose it because of its warm, welcoming exterior and affordable $55 rate. The front desk person was very personable and friendly. The hallways display an extensive gallery of Western art. Then the happy surprise was the immaculate and beautifully appointed room, with a loveseat sitting area. The beds have comfortable mattresses and upscale bedding. The lobby offers a breakfast snack of good coffee and trail mix bars. This place is definitely a "find"! read more

This hotel, renamed Rawlins Western Lodge, was a comfortable stay. It's unique, beginning with the Bronc Sculptures in the front of the hotel, to the well furnished guest rooms. The rate was very affordable! If you want something not cookie cutter but resonating local western flavour, this is the place. read more

This motel is a good value for the money. It was clean with new carpet, bedding and linens. After reading the older review, I can only assume this motel has had a major overhaul . The bathroom was clean and hot water was no problem. The other reviewer is correct in that most of the other motels are charging a premium due to the boom in industry. The desk person was extremely helpful and informative. The cost for our room with one King was in the mid 60's. 10/16/13 read more
