Fantastic locally owned establishment. I've been coming to Oak Tree Cafe for years and have always impressed. Can't say I've ever had a bad meal there. Everything is prepared in house using only the freshest ingredients. The "Ruben" is always one of my go to dishes, and considering the owner cooks off and slices the corned beef himself it's easy to know why. Not many placed still slice there own meats. Some of my other favorites are "Janet's Burger" and of course their "Fish and Chip Friday." Although the food is always outstanding the service is equally impressive. Order at the counter, find your seat, and be ready for some delicious food. Great atmosphere and draft selection. Consistently impressed will definitely be back and highly recommended. read more

The only reason this is marked 4 and not 5 stars is because I am not a big fan of walk up counter ordering - other than that WOW.. Friendly staff, plenty of beer choices, and A-Maz-Ing food! I ordered the Sexy Hawaiian with Mac salad - ummm ummm ummm. It came out perfect / dripping with pinnacle juice, teriyaki, and was out of this world. What a wonderful spot that we happened upon during the last day of balloon fiesta. We were hungry and cold after camping for the event, and needed a place to recooperate. I'm on a perpetual search for a good Reuben, and found a fantastic one here. Not only were we amazed at the quality of the food and expedience at which it was brought to us, but we also loved being greeted by (who we assume to be) the owner and his wife, who greeted and had a conversation with us; Very genuine people. This place opened up not too long ago, and I'm glad they did. It's not far from my office, and with the weather getting nice and warm this time of year, their patio is very inviting for lunch and happy hour sessions. They have a great selection of sandwiches to choose from, and some wraps, too. A few burgers to go for, and they've got salads to round it all out. As for appetizers, I dig that they have fried pickles and fried green beans. Good selection of beers on tap, nice happy hour. This place is usually full, and for good reason. I tend to judge a restaurant by its Cobb Salad, and was absolutely delighted with this restaurant's version. Neat little place near our house. The atmosphere is friendly, you can tell there a some regulars that go here. The owner?/manager seemed very nice and was working the room well. They have alot of beer choices if you are a beer person. I ordered the Friday special of fish and chips with house coleslaw. The fish was cooked perfectly and I loved the coating on the fries. The coleslaw was just okay, but for $12.99 I expected a little bit better. My husband loved his Hawaiian burger. I wont be cming back and I sure wont bring in another client...Used to love this place and I was a regular patron until today. I arranged to meet up with a new Realtor client , she had requested a coffee prior to lunch, the cashier ( I believe to be a co-owner) was abrupt with my guest, then when I ordered our meal I requested a water, I had asked for the styrofoam cup with a lid as I had intended to take with me, she refused to allow me a styrofoam cup I then ask if I could have one if I paid for it, with that she replied for $2.50.....just the cup $2.50!! I backed out of that however I did tell her that I was a regular paying patron and I was very dissapointed with her rudness and the way she address my guest. I am not done yet...we sat waiting, like others around us, until our time had run out so we had to take it to go. I understand help is an issue so I work to be a little more patient., that being said I have also been a business owner and a customer service trainer and I realize people have a choice of where we spend our $ and our time. My review is limited to a take out experience. I ordered at the counter and paid for my meal. I took a seat at the bar to wait for my order. It's a cozy spot and there were regulars hanging out for sure. I think the set up is a bit strange to order at the counter. They should just offer table service, it's really what the space is set up for. The food was good, I ordered a take away salad. I know you can't judge a place on a salad alone. It wasn't the greatest salad in the world, but it filled me up for my afternoon full of meetings. Overall, nothing really looked unique enough on the menu to bring me back in. Stopped in here on a whim after a training at CNM Workforce Center. I was initially disappointed that the patio was closed but soon saw a sign that said they were closing early for a group event- completely understandable. You order your food first from the counter and then find you seat. The menu has your normal sandwiches and then all their takes on them as well. The burgers smelled amazing, but I opted for The Charlie's Tuna Sandwich with fresh fruit. My colleague had the turkey pesto sandwich, the special of the day. I was surprised at how quickly the food came out, always concerns me, however this time it was welcomed. The tuna was great, not too much mayo. It was served on a nice whole wheat sliced bread with a pickle spear. The fruit was great, fresh cut cantaloupe, watermelon, grapes and oranges. I will definitely be back to sit on the patio, order a craft beer and a burger. I would highly recommend this place if you are on this side of town for lunch. I love the set up of this place. Pay for your food, help yourself to refills and cutlery, it's the way a sandwich shop should be. Weed out the entitled snobs and help yourself. The place is immaculate from entry to restrooms and the live plants really add character. The food is amazing. I've never had a better macaroni salad and that bread! I had a chicken sandwich and it was by far one of the best I've ever had. Loved the green chile mayo. The beer list is nice too and we paid $3.50 a pint during happy hour. Service was exceptional. The man at the counter who I assumed was the owner, checked with us asking specifically what we liked about the food and beer. We will be going back soon! read more

Let me start by saying that the 3 stars go to the really friendly and speedy service. As a quick bite this place is great, specially if you are looking for a great selection of beers. The "Extreme" sandwich had a nice presentation and was a good size, -not huge, like I've read in some reviews- but nice enough size for me at about 6". Unfortunately I wasnt impressed with the bread, meat or ingredients. For the price (which is reasonable dont get me wrong) and specially for an "au jus" sandwich I would have expected a warm sandwich with home roasted meats and flavorful ingredients. Mine was more like thinly shaved store bought roasted beef with bland green chile -yes, bland green chile- and cold -yes, cold- au jus. Just like Subway on a slightly crustier bread. Even worse: they didn't pack a pickle :( I love pickles, that would have made me so happy. Oh well next time. So this sandwich didn't blow my socks off, but I love local businesses so I'll be back and try out their made-to-order burguers and give this spot another chancy-chance! read more

Has potential..nice atmosphere, decent menu, and good location. Falls short on value. I cannot get past that there is no side (i.e. french fries are not included) with a burger. That's an expensive burger all alone on that big plate...looked like something was missing?! While the fries ordered as a side were delicious and presented in a tall basket cone, by the time you add fries separately, we felt it too expensive for what you get. We also had a turkey green chile sandwich on a yummy baguette that was decent. I'm not a mayo fan, so skipped the side offerings of slaw or macaroni salad and opted for the fruit. Pineapple and grapes were super fresh, orange slice dried out. Can get a comparable quality meal for less elsewhere, so we won't be rushing back, which is too bad. read more

Dang I feel like I've been missing out by not knowing about this place. I had the burger covered in a green chile spread and man was that the sauce of chaos--so good. The burger is freaking huge so bring your appetite. My coworkers all got the special, a sandwich loaded with turkey and goodness. If I could give 0 stars I would. Yesterday myself and some friends went into Oak Tree Cafe for lunch. One of my friends was ready before me and went to order their food. Then there were 2-3 customers then myself. My friend has severe allergies and asked the cashier about what kind of oil they used and a few other questions around her allergies. The chef (maybe owner) came out from the kitchen to answer the questions because the cashier was not certain and stated she did not want to give false info. After my friend asked the questions she discovers she cannot eat there and asks to cancel the food order and still orders a drink. After my friend leaves the register area, the chef (maybe owner) goes back to the register and starts talking to the cashier and next customers stating things like "if you have that many allergies you need to stay home" and "there's flour everywhere it's ridiculous for someone to go out thinking a restaurant can accommodate everything". And ends with "oh I should watch my mouth" and walks away laughing. It was extremely unprofessional. I spoke with my friends about what I just saw and we all decided to go somewhere else due to this event. I will not go back to this establishment nor will I recommend this place to anyone. It's one thing to not be able to accommodate your customers, but then to mock them for their allergies to other customers is a line that shouldn't be crossed. read more

Wow. Just wow. I work just yards from the Oak Tree and I visit often. Tonight (8.23.13) we stopped by with a work group to grab a drink. Amazing happy hour specials. 3.50 draft beers and discounted apps. Food is amazing. Burgers are juicy and made to order. Everything is fresh and served up with care. Not just thrown together. My favorite appetizer is the fried green beans! Mmmm! Not many joints in food service care enough about customer service. I can tell you though Oak Tree does! They know our names and greet us each time we visit. It just makes the food taste so much better. 5 stars aren't enough to express how much I love this place. read more

As other commenters have mentioned, the sides are extra for everything (including the burgers). Stopped by for a late lunch 2pm, so had the whole place to myself. The decor is American Kitsch (elvis, gangsters, etc) but they have a well-apportioned beer selection (Cider on tap!). The food here is really good. I had the Ricco 2. Tender and juicy chicken breast with buttery asparagus. Portion size is a bit small. I don't like the fact they do line service. It makes it feel rushed. The chip reader on my card didn't work and they wouldn't do a manual punch so I had to pay cash. Thankfully I had it. That was my second time visiting. It was pretty much the same. The special also comes with a drink which I didn't realize or need because I was having beer with my meal. Stopped in at the Oak Tree Cafe because it was near my client's office and was pleasantly surprised. This is a sandwich/burger/salad restaurant. We came in for a quick lunch between meetings and the service was quick and pleasant. The burger selection was really great, unfortunately, they don't have gluten-free rolls or sandwich bread. :( I ordered the California salad and it was really good! Fresh ingredients, delicious moist chicken and hard-boiled egg for protein. Sliced almonds and mandarin oranges with a poppy seed dressing. It was delicious. I've reviewed this place before, but wanted to give another tip of the hat to them. Had the Green Chile Cheeseburger and fries. Huge burger, but not a humugus bun. Just enough bread to hold the sandwich together. Large patty cooked medium and a good portion of green chile on top. The chili is nice and spicey but doesn't take your breath away. My companion had the Reuben sandwich, which really didn't have a lot of taste, but was fairly good. They make their own coleslaw, and you get a huge portion; great taste. The fries are extra special, huge pieces, deep fried to just the right consistency. All in all a great meal. read more

The cashier always gives me and my co-workers a hard time with picking up our orders for work. It's always one thing or another and she does not try to give the customer what they want. The only reason this is such a big deal to me is because I was taught to always give the customer what they want (they are the ones paying) Other then that their cafe is excellent and their food is always fresh. So I've been to The Oak Tree Cafe twice...the first time me and my wife went and we were greeted by the female owner...while placing our order she was very rude to us...not a very nice lady but while eating our food we were greeted by her husband the other owner and he was a nice man although the food was good I was contemplating on whether to go back there or not..I decided to give this place a second chance just a week ago...I was meeting my Supervisor to talk about some cases on my schedule and anticipated getting s bite to eat...but business first right...so we sat down and were talking for about 15 mins then we were greeted by the male owner who told us we needed to order at the register...we both replied ok thanks...about 15 mins later he came to our table and took our menus...we were like ok... then in front of several customers he said "it's self explanitory on our window that you can't just sit here without ordering an e have limited seating"....basically tried to make us look stupid in front of several customers...if he could've just had another 10 minutes of patience inside him I would've walked up and placed my order...like really...then I get back to work and share my story with several co-workers...learned that seversl other people have not returned to this joint due to the attitude from the female owner and the fact that the female owner gave someone attitude when asked if they could make a grilled cheese for her dsughter since they don't have a kids menu....I will never return read more

I hate it when I don't like a restaurant that everyone else loves but... We decided to try it out today, usually we go to the Wise Pies next door. I ordered the tuna salad, okay, that was probably a bad choice at a place known for it's burgers but, it's what sounded good. The hubby had some sort of sandwich, I didn't catch the name. The kid had a cheeseburger, plain. The side of the day was macaroni salad or fresh fruit. First the good - the fruit was really good. Hubby's sandwich was "okay". The macaroni salad was probably some of the worst I've ever had, and that includes the stuff you buy at Walmart. Absolutely no flavor and really dry. The tuna salad was just weird. It was tuna and mayo, period. It had so much mayo that it was white and I wasn't sure what it even was. In hindsight, I should have mixed it with the macaroni salad. I really enjoyed the food at this restaurant. We had a chicken salad, chicken sandwich and a more elaborate sandwich that had a variety of meat. The service was good as well. I would have given them 5 stars if they had a kids menu. What kind of place has high chairs and no kids menu? It just doesn't make sense. When I asked the lady taking our order if she could do anything for my son (like a side of chicken or veggies) she flat out said "no". Food is great and service was great minus the kids menu part.
