I was looking forward to this underwater excursion after reading such high reviews from Yelp. I was also super excited to see turtles and other marine animals but my experience was the complete opposite of what I hoped it'd be. Before I explain further, I'd like to say Krash, his dog Sushi, and Sammy were absolutely wonderful! Krash was super funny and talkative, his dog was the cutest and SO smart, and Sammy was sweet and helpful with our gear. If anything, they made the trip fun and memorable. Now, I understand it's out of their control of when we'll see sea animals since I know, they could be a bit unpredictable but to an extent, if I'm paying a lot of money just to see turtles on my snorkel adventure, I'd expect to see at least a couple of sea turtles and more. I didnt even see ONE. I was disappointed because I only saw fish. Not even tropical fish... just ordinary fish I'd find in a fish tank. I honestly felt ripped off of my money. read more

We had a great sunset sail and were so grateful to Captain Krash who was very accommodating. The afternoon of our snorkeling reservation, my family was wondering if this was the best idea for us due to some new injuries, etc. We figured we would just enjoy the trip as much as we could and if anything, we could just hang out on the boat. A few hours before the excursion, Captain Krash called to go over checking in and said to let him know if we had any questions. I ended up asking if it was possible to switch to the sunset cruise since my family probably wouldn't be able to enjoy the snorkeling to the fullest. He checked, said he had just enough space, and we were set! He did say that the snorkeling trip was more expensive, but since we already booked it, we wouldn't be refunded the difference between that and the sunset cruise, which was alright with us. We had such a fun time hanging out together on the boat! Sushi the dog was the cutest in her little pajamas, and she will bark whenever there's a turtle. My mom is afraid of dogs but didn't have any issues since Sushi was so chill! The only thing that bothered us is they do throw crackers and processed people food out to attract fish and turtles. read more

A sunset cruise on the Kahala Kai with Oahu Catamarans was an absolutely amazing part of our visit to Honolulu. The Captain and Crew were so incredibly friendly, thoughtful and informative! We went on a two hour cruise out of Waikiki with amazing views of the Waikiki beaches and resorts, Diamond Head, and, of course, a stunning Hawaiian sunset! The vessel had restrooms on board and the cruise was BYOB for those who wanted to partake. Some soda, water, and light snacks were provided by the Crew to enhance the experience. Our family had a great time, saw a lot of turtles. At the last minute I was unable to get in the water due to a knee injury ( wouldn't have been able to climb the stairs back up into the catamaran) but I was still able to see turtles coming up for air from the deck. Can't say much about the trip but on our recent visit to Hawaii the weather was pretty stormy. Captain Krash/or person who answered phone; was very pleasant to deal with in regards to canceling our reservation for two people. I know it is a terrible time for Hawaiians since a lot of work is in the tourist trade. Felt very bad canceling but knew we would get seasick with the rough waters. I know this personally from experience on another trip to Maui. Such a friendly attitude which was surprising since I was canceling. So happy we chose Oahu Catamarans! I researched multiple sunset cruise companies and am so glad this was the one we went on--definitely one of the highlights of the trip. Captain Krash, Jordan, and Sushi the pup are the best crew. Sushi is SO cute and will let you know when there is turtles around! Captain Krash gave lots of info about the history of Waikiki beach and Honolulu and Jordan was very friendly and helpful. He had this awesome constellation app that he showed everyone on the boat and took pictures for people. They have a nice little spread of food for snacks, and you can BYOB if you want to drink alcohol. They had water and soda provided. The sunset views were incredible and there were plenty of chances to get pictures. Overall it was such a fun experience and I would definitely book with Oahu Catamarans over other companies if I come back to Honolulu. read more

I have mixed reviews of this experience. On the plus side, it was a nice boat, good equipment, professionally run. It was a beautiful day and truly wonderful to snorkel with the fish and a few turtles. Our Host, Carlos, found an octopus and it was special to see and interact with it. Unfortunately, Carlos then handed over the octopus to a buddy on a neighboring boat who then proceeded to torture it and keep it out of the water, and I gather planned to use it as bait. I understand this kind of thing happens, but it felt wholly inappropriate on a recreational Nature-based excursion and I feel sick about being part of this. It ruined the trip. I hope that sharing this leads our guides to think deeply about the stewardship role they play as part of an ecotourism outfit. And while you're at it, please lose the old school offensive gender jokes. read more

Two of us went for the Sunset Cruise. Capt. Carl (owner) and Sushi (dog) were unavailable, so Capt. Winter took the helm with a crew of two. The boat was easy to find and left right on time with one other group of 10. Sodas and waters were passed out by the crew, and a very nice, fresh cheese and fruit board was served. We motored slowly down the coast toward Diamond Head for about half and hour, and then put up a sail and made several turns, waiting for the sun to set. After all the sunset hoopla, we sailed back to harbor and disembarked exactly one hour after we left. The atmosphere on board was very casual and the crew was attentive, which we appreciated. Plenty of seating was available, though we stood for a good part of the ride for better views and photos. When we got over the reef, food was thrown out to attract fish, and swarms immediately appeared like they were just waiting. That was pretty exciting. We also saw a few turtles. You get what you get on the sunset, and unfortunately, it was very cloudy for us, especially in that part of the sky - so the countdown was a bit underwhelming. But as we headed back to the harbor, long streaks of clouds over the city lit up with bright pinks and purples and reflected beautifully in the ocean, which made for fantastic photos of Honolulu from the water. It totally made up for the lackluster sunset and elicited a round of applause from everyone on the boat as the tour drew to an end and the sky went dark. The only reason I gave a 4-star rating instead of 5, was that on Yelp, there is the promise of a 20% discount with a provided code. However, on the Oahu Catamaran's online reservations page, there was nowhere to enter the Yelp code, and therefore it became a bait-and-switch situation. I tried multiple times to reach the office by phone to try and get the discount, but all I ever got was a recording. It ended up costing us $108 for 2 adults, which is not too bad considering the high cost of everything in Hawaii. read more

Immediately, we knew we got our money's worth on the snorkeling trip when Carlos pointed out we saw a Hawksbill Turtle and proceeded to tell us all about it. I had never done something like this before. I usually avoid the ocean and animals, but I truly felt safe and enjoyed every minute of the trip. Overdue review. This was for January 2018 experience, I'm not sure if the staff is still the same. It was my first time snorkeling and one of the things that I was looking forward to the most on our Hawaii trip. My friends and I got a Groupon and we were lucky enough to have Captain Krash and his dog Sushi guide us. Although the waters were a bit choppy and murky we still got to see octopus and sea turtles! The photographer was an awesome guy, really trying to give everyone a picture in the water (you can purchase them afterwards). My friend and I were the last remaining in the water at the end and got super close to a sea turtle! I would have loved to see more fish but you just can't control the quality of the water and sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. But the main reason I'm giving them 5 stars is because of the staff! They're super friendly, funny and despite me throwing up at the end I still had a great experience! read more
