Jamie W and I had been on a different catamaran off Waikīkī before, the Maita'i (review: https://yelp.to/P7qeOP_nln). It was a fabulous gay cruise on a Saturday afternoon sponsored by Hula's Bar & Lei Stand, and not coincidentally covered a similar route to the one taken by the Odyssey. At the last minute, we decided to book passage on the Friday Night Fireworks cruise for $79 per person. We thought it would be a unique way to witness the pyrotechnics we had never seen before. Indeed it was, and launched from the beach at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, they lasted over five minutes at the end of the ninety-minute cruise. The rest of the experience was less than memorable. The boat was packed with mostly tourists by the time we boarded twenty minutes before departure. There were few seats left and none with an unobstructed view. Other than maneuvering the choppy waters and enjoying the twilight views of Waikiki, there was frankly little to do except wait for the fireworks. Of course there was a full cash bar, and the boisterous intoxication it caused seemed at odds with the number of children aboard. The crew (Alexio, Kainoa, and Shamus) did their jobs admirably. The crew - Alexio, Kiona, and Shamus did a great job. Alexio did a fantastic job of narration, explanation, and had a solid attempt at whale puns. They whalely could have been better though. We had the opportunity to follow a small pod of whales and sew many surface and dive sequences. The boat was clean, safe, and comfortable. I felt safety was a priority, with a good explanation beforehand. My only criticism would be the small sign at the meeting point - there was a lot of confusion by many people looking for the correct spot. Highly recommended and would definitely do again. read more

We scheduled through Viator for a turtle canyon snorkeling excursion. The team was phenomenal to work with (Captain Jamie, guide Peter, and support Jalen). As promised, we were able to see turtles. We snorkeled to a few different areas and had multiple picture/video opportunities. They gave us a couple of options with how to enter the water, they showed us around, and we enjoyed our time (definitely enhanced by the team we were with). The views were phenomenal and we had a beautiful day to be in the water. I only wish they would've shared a bit more about tips and tricks with managing the waves as well as how to best use the flippers in the water. Having snorkeled before, I felt confident. However, as someone who isn't a strong swimmer, I think I would've struggled. read more

Loved our time on the sunset cruise! We got there 45 minutes ahead of departure time and ended up waiting in line for about 30 min. The one girl checking everyone in didn't seem to know how to work her phone she was using to scan tickets. She caused a major bottleneck and delayed everyone getting onto the boats. It would probably have been better for her to have just checked IDs against her list of reservations. Once we were checked in we were allowed to choose which boat we wanted to join, either the sailboat, or the one with an engine. Being that I get motion sickness and don't love it when it is super windy, we went with the latter. We sat at the front of the boat and enjoyed the views. It was the perfect setting to be on the water during the golden hour around sunset and to return just as it was getting dark. The guys working on the boat were friendly and helpful, checking in with people to see if they wanted any beverages or photos taken. The only really annoying part of the trip were a couple of late-comers. Because of them we had less time out on the water and realistically they should have just been left behind. If the departure time is 430pm and instructions say you have to be there by 415pm, then at 430pm you should be pulling away from the dock, regardless of who is or isn't onboard. We were the last boat out of the harbor and the first boat back. It wasn't a huge deal because we didn't miss the sunset or anything, it just shorted the rest of the patrons. The 2 hour cruise was more like a 1.5 hour cruise that day. read more

While visiting Hawaii, I was looking for an activity to do and came across whale watching since it's currently in season. I would recommend arriving early, as a line starts to form and boarding is done in that order, which helps you get better seats on the boat. I cannot remember the names of the hosts, but they were fantastic. They were informative, shared jokes, and made sure everyone had a great experience. I booked this snorkeling experience on trip advisor which also gave me a great discount. The directions were clear and easy to book. I received an email with confirmation and parking information with details. We arrived 30 minutes early as requested and it was a super easy check in. They give you your float and face mask right away. The boat is a basic 2 story, restroom, seating and a light bar. I was excited to try the bar but there simply wasn't enough time nor did I account for sea sickness. The staff was awesome, very attentive and sympathetic to those who weren't feeling well. The Mc was funny and kept everyone entertained. When you go to the snorkeling location they explained everything in laymans terms so everyone really understood. They split us into groups based on experience. Which just made it go smoother. My kids were very excited for this. My son was out the entire time. Next to the guide they put out to make sure we saw an much as we can. The turtles were beautiful. We saw many turtles and many fish. The water was so clear. He was very vocal to his group and individually asked if we all saw the things he was pointing out. If you said no he took you there to make sure you got the best experience. I consider myself a great swimmer and great multi-tasker. But the fins, the mask and the float for myself was alot to get used to. I could not for the life of my get the hang of breathing out of my mouth. I jumped in saw the fish saw the turtles did a little swimming and can back in. I wouldn't do it again but it was a great experience. Im glad I did it with Pink Sails as they were awesome. My kids would love to do this again. read more

Giving 2 stars due to one crew members rude comment. We booked a sunset splash on Sunday 03/02/25 at 5pm. First, the crew introduced themselves and were engaging with groups for photos. We sailed towards the sunset and then set anchor facing the Waikiki skyline. I thought everything was going well until one of the crew member, Tyler, who I can best describe as one of the guys with the mustache made a crude joke. He started talking about Chinese new years and fireworks. Then he proceed to say, "you heard about Filipino New Years, right? Where they eat dogs?" He then repeated it AGAIN while talking to the other worker John and he didn't get it. But when he walked past me; I told him that joke was offensive. He just looked at me and went downstairs. That's pretty offensive and put a damper on the whole sunset sail itself. I still tipped the crew $20 because I know they have to earn a living but I left feeling offended and hostile. Please train your crew to do better, especially Tyler. I am showing the very little picture I have from the cruise because I wish I didn't book this excursion. read more

I had booked with Pink Sails as a last minute resort; I had originally booked with Moana Sailing company for 2 excursions and ironically both of them got cancelled the night before one of them being their snorkeling tour. I really wanted to do a snorkeling tour as I have never done it before, and Pink Sails came up as a great recommendation from people on tiktok. It was also significantly cheaper than booking with Moana and way more closer to our hotel (we were able to walk there from our hotel), so I thought why not and I absolutely 100% believe Moana cancelled so I could go ride with Pink Sails. Our captain Brian, and his team Tyler and John were so welcoming, friendly, funny, and over all had this amazing spirit like they were happy to be there. They offered pictures to take for you and your family/group, as well as some cool underwater shots for you to get better close ups of all the fish and sea turtles. They were very quick to point out where turtles were located and if they were surfaced. This tour excursion does include snorkel gear, life vests, and flotation devices that are mandatory for all guests aboard. We brought our own goggles and breather thing (i don't know what it's called lol) and they did provide us with the fins and anti fog spray for our goggles! Once everyone is in the water we all swim together as a group. The guide(s) will redirect us if needed: i.e. too close to turtles, boats, or too far from designated snorkel area. Our guide also fed the fishes to bring them closer to the surface and everyone was able to get some pretty cool recordings and photos! They do have a mini alcohol selection that you can order after the snorkel excursion. The boat ride itself does hit some pretty choppy waters outside of the harbor, and once docked in the ocean it will rock side to side so for anyone who gets sea sick or motion sickness (i do), I highly recommend taking some dramamine or anti motion sickness medicine; it's what I did and I did not once feel dizzy or nauseous! Overall, i'm honestly very happy that I got the opportunity to ride Pink Sails and even more honored to have had Brian, Tyler, and John as our guides. I will definitely book more excursions with Pink Sails in the future, and I hope to have these wonderful gentlemen as my guides again! As Captain Jamie said, "Take a moment. You're on a boat. It's sunset. You're in Hawaii.". And when Jon did his whale call (claiming it worked 7 times in a row,) we saw whales! And we saw whales 3 times!!! (So he's now at 8 in a row.). The crew was very attentive and Captain Jamie was a fountain of whale knowledge. Not that it was needed because we're on a boat, at sunset, in Hawaii - with whales. The bonus was Jon's "Fireball" dance. Peter kept showing off his sea legs with his leaps high off the deck when we hit a few big waves so you might get to see him swept off the boat someday. If that happens, I still think the crew will be laughing. Highly recommend the trip as it's the right amount of time and, it f course, the sunset was tremendous. Enjoyed our Whale Watching trip with this company. The 3 crew members were all helpful and entertaining as we were moving out of harbor toward deeper water. A very short time into the cruise the captain alerted everyone that there was a single whale Off to our left. We watched this Humphack for awhile. Once it headed too far out and against the swells, the decision was made to head out West of our location where a mother and calf with a male escort was spotted. It was so amazing to see the baby copying it's mothers moves. As it dove down you could see its much smaller tail. It was one of those ahhh moments. We watched them for a while, unfortunately our time was running out. On our way back a Hawaiian Green Sea turtle passed closely by the boat. To entertain us the crew did a whale trivia contest between two sections of the boat. It was a pleasant morning due to the whales and staff, Sheamus, Kaiona and Alexio. My only suggestion is make it clear about where to check in and which boat. We were told to wait in the wrong spot. read more
