Every step from booking to sailing was clear, concise, and time-efficient. BEFORE THE SAIL: About a week prior to our trip from mainland to Oahu, I contacted Kiah to schedule a sailing excursion. Communication via phone, text, and email made the process easy and time-efficient. She was prompt in responding and the reservation was set quickly. With the busy-ness of traveling, I appreciated the reminder texts and emails! DAY OF: We arrived at Kewalo Basin Harbor,Pier C (at the end of the parking area) and called Sail Honu as instructed. We entered through the gate, walked to the end of the pier, and met our friendly sailing crew of 2: Kiah and Natalie. *It was a special treat to see a honu (turtle) floating in the water nearby! After some brief instructions, we left the dock for our 2-hour sail. Once anchored at sea, you can snorkel (equipment provided), sit in the ocean in a floating chair (tethered to the boat), or relax on the boat netting. *Natalie was out in the water and found a big starfish! Both Kiah and Natalie are the BEST! They are friendly, knowledgable, and very accommodating. We were in good hands with them in charge of the sail. HIGHLY RECOMMEND SAIL HONU!!! read more

Spectacular An afternoon sail and swim could not have been more perfect. The experience Kiah creates is above and beyond. She is a phenomenal captain and her first mate (and crew, per all of Sail Honu reviews on Google and here on Yelp) are top notch, have high EQ, and actually care about the guest experience, the coral reef, honu, sea life, teaching, and more. They work hard to understand weather patterns so you aren't out on the water ending up in a predicament. Anything can happen, of course, but if it can knowingly be prevented for your protection, they will ensure safety! Outside of the technical aspect, SO MUCH FUN! These ladies have amazing senses of humor, great taste in music, and treat you well by ensuring you have everything you need. It's BYOB and they will serve what you bring, and ask if you need refills throughout the time together. We had four in our group and expected to have a great time, but it really was the best time...better than anticipated because of Kiah and Malia. Everything for parking, directions, rules, what to bring, wear, etc., is sent in advance, along with reminder texts and emails. I typically use rideshare, so that too was easy to provide to the driver. I have booked other catamaran tours here on Oahu... this is my go-to from now on!!! read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Sail Honu Hawaii. From the second I called to book, I could tell I was going to love Kiah. She was incredibly warm, friendly, and accommodating and made the entire process so easy. She even held our spots for the day without requiring payment while I waited to confirm that the timing would work for my husband--and generously gave us a 15% discount just because! Unfortunately, just a few hours before our sail, my husband found out he couldn't come because of work. Despite their 48-hour cancellation policy, Kiah immediately offered us a credit and even tried to find a way to fit in a private charter before we left Hawaii so he wouldn't miss out. That kind of flexibility and genuine kindness is incredibly rare. My 7-year-old son, Finn, and I still went, and it ended up being one of the absolute best experiences of our entire trip. There were only two other guests onboard with us, along with Kiah and her first mate, Maliha, so it truly felt like a private charter--and at an incredibly reasonable price. Finn and I had an entire side of the catamaran to ourselves. Kiah found a pod of dolphins, and watching them swim alongside our boat was absolutely magical. Her knowledge and passion for the ocean and wildlife were so evident, and Maliha took my phone and captured amazing videos so I could just enjoy the moment with Finn. We stopped at a beautiful, secluded spot to snorkel, and Maliha completely took Finn under her wing, pulling him along on a float and pointing out things for him to see. They even let him help raise the sail, which he absolutely loved. What really sets Sail Honu apart, though, is Kiah and Maliha. They genuinely catered the experience to us and went out of their way at every turn to make it special. They were warm, personable, interesting, knowledgeable, and just incredibly enjoyable people to spend an afternoon with. Nothing about the experience felt touristy, crowded, or commercial--it felt personal and authentic. If you're considering a sailing or snorkeling trip in Oahu, book with Sail Honu Hawaii. This is exactly the kind of small, locally owned business you hope to find when traveling. Marsha loved Hawaii. It was not a chance encounter that we met. I was blessed that Marsha was in my life since 1991. So in her final years, when it became too hard for her to travel to Hawaii from the mainland, I did what I could to bring Hawaii to her. Well, in November 2024, Marsha succumbed to cancer. I was fully prepared to fly to the mainland for a funeral but her surviving sibling told me that Marsha only had one wish.... She wanted her ashes mailed to me so that she could be at peace, back in beautiful Hawaii. After I cried, the one and only thing I knew she wanted, without any instructions.....I knew she wanted a sunset sail out because that's how she and her husband got married in 1995 here. I received her ashes through USPS in January and called several boat operations to try and schedule an ash scattering. Thankfully, Sail Honu was available and I secured the private sunset charter with them. From start to finish, Captain Kiah was truly remarkable in communicating with me to prepare for Marsha's send-off. I was provided with clear information and a variety of options, to ensure love, dignity, and respect for the ashes that I was entrusted with. Captain Kiah greeted us at Pier C. and we left our slippers in their storage box. She led us on board and gave us all the safety protocol. We left the harbor and instantly, we knew this was going to be special, something Marsha would have really loved. The ocean was calm. We had a gentle breeze. And the sun felt so perfect as we headed towards Diamond Head. When we reached the perfect spot, Captain Kiah turned the music off so I could say a prayer in our intimate setting before releasing the ho'okupu into the ocean. After we tossed the orchids into the water and said our goodbyes, Captain Kiah circled the area three times and noted our coordinates. Thank you Kiah and Natalie for helping us with a respectful and dignified endeavor. Our photo and video documentation of this sunset sail out and ash scattering could not have been anything but perfect. Very attentive, friendly, and genuine. What an awesome experience! I managed to find this company from Groupon and book a trip for the following day (hint: most companies are happy to honor Groupons if you book with them directly, which means they get 100% of the profit instead of having to split it, and you still get a great deal!) We ended up having to add another party member the day of the sail, which was no problem at all since they had space. On the boat were the three of us in our party, and another couple, so super intimate compared to many of the other companies where you have 30+ people on a boat. It was BYOB and bring your own snacks, which is awesome. There was a ton of talk story with the crew, which was so much fun. I really appreciated that our crew was all-female, Captain Kiah and Malia. I appreciate that it was an opportunity to support a local, female-owned business. I also really loved seeing the communication between the two crew; it was pretty clear that Kiah was providing more than just direction for our sail that day, but was also providing coaching and training for Malia's professional development in a really supportive and positive way. In a world of hustle culture (and believe me, these ladies hustle), it was really nice to see an employer taking time and investing into their crew. Pretty easy to find, parked by the volleyball courts at Ala Moana beach park (free parking) and it's a 2 minute walk to pier c at the harbor. It's byob, and you can bring snacks, and there is music and a bathroom on board! Getting off to swim was so fun, and they even provided snorkel masks! HIDDEN GEM ALERT! I don't take it lightly when I say this was literally the best experience we've had on the island. We were celebrating my bf's birthday, so we were greeted with the most beautiful flower leis and a warm welcome at the pier. The trimaran ride was absolutely exhilarating!! Nick and Dan were hospitable and didn't fear to push our boundaries with activities, like 'surfing' on the hull watching glides of flying fish jumping out of the waves in front of us. The sailboat was FUN and fast! We could have hung out for hours, actively participating in steering the sailboat or just simply tanning on the net.
